www.handteck.co.uk £373.64 inc vat and £440.61 with tomtom europe
www.powerupmobile.com £369.95 inc vat
I much prefer to get my device with an atractive bundle e.g europe maps, car charger etc
any comments???
I haven't got a clue mate. I was looking at Expansys but I haven't used any of them before so I don't know who is the best in terms delivery, after sales etc.
I'm looking for some recommendations as well.
i had ok xp with Expansys
if their price is right i would prob get it from them
expanys do a bundle with europe maps at £464.99 but it doesn't come out until February plus is the most expensive one around
They seem a bit more expensive than some but if their service is good I might consider them.
Mobile Planet for purchase - what GPS software?
I have pre-ordered mine from Mobile-Planet. (Expansys in the USA) Of course being a newbie, you get a not so hot price but that is a sacrifice to being first. I have heard that the first USA order is arriving in Manchester England on Dec. 14th and 700 of them will be in the USA on Dec. 16th-ish.
I do have a question. I have heard that these phones come with the TomTom software for the GPS. Is that a standard software package in all of the HTC Touch Cruise/Polaris phones? Or, is this something that I have to upgrade to? Or, can I use my own 3rd party app once I get the phone?
Let me know what some of you are doing.
Here in the UK the cruise comes without GPS maps but some places they have a bundle already installed tom tom with a DVD of europe maps and car charger. and maybe a car holder
your question is very good because I was considering buying tom tom separetely if its workout to be cheaper but my findings tell me that a bundle is the cheapest option.
regarding which sofware to buy, I have no experience with GPS software but tom tom seem to be the most popular.
can anyone make comments on tomtom, copilot, mamopolis, etc???? please

I personally have two Garmin GPS's. (Garmin CSx60 & C550 - North America) I can tell you that the Garmin maps, on average, are about 1-2 years out of date. Magellan seems to be about the same and TomTom also. I do know that TomTom is now advertising more frequent updates and better logic behind the routing. (Whether its true or not is unknown) There has also been major bids from Garmin and a few other companies to purchase the mapping software companies. (NavTeq and TeleAtlas) So, to answer your question, I think Garmin has the best logic for routing. TomTom has the best maps. They do get all the maps from the two mappings companies though.
If you want to get into the details, GPSPassion.com or GPSReview.com should be able to assist you.
Good luck and let me know if you find anything useful -

Hi guy's
I have ordered mine from here http://www.smartdevicesdirect.com/
I gave them a call before hand and spoke to a chap there called Richard very helpful. He said he would get an updated delivery date and call me back. He did and followed up with an Email. The delivery date is 10th Dec to them and i will have it the 12th Dec.
the price im gonna pay is £388.93 + postage £6.46 total= £395.39
The money doesnt come off my card until its shipped also i havnt used them before now but on them getting back to me etc i went with them. As for expansys they usually have the goods but they also charge a lot for so-so service.
As for the comments on the GPS and TOMTOM, im reading that it comes with TOMTOM but no maps? any other have any more info on it?
last thing, im also hoping that this will be able to take Andriod in futre upgrades anyones thoughts on this?

HTC typically ships GPS enabled phones with a 'Teaser' version of the Nav software which allows you to download one city map for free. After that, you need to pay. I installed a thirp party nav software. My pre-release Cruise arrived with no nav software at all.
Tom Tom are selling maps with 50% off at the moment http://www.tomtom.com/products/maps/index.php?Lid=1
Don't know if the version is ok for the Cruise but worth a look

I've just chatted with the nice chap at smart devices and they've just been notified by HTC that they wont be receiving stock until the 18th Jan now.
Seems like this wont be anybodys xmas toy after all
I hope it will be in o2 on contract at the end of jan. (i need to renew contract anyway) it's a shame is not available yet.
In Germany, known as O2-Xda Orbit 2 is officially available (here) since beginning of this month (1-12-2007). Yet the dealer is unable to provide me this at the moment, however, it would be available by next week.
About maps, Orbit 2 also comes with COMPLETE maps for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, plus ALL main European roads, all in a very reasonable price package, so seems like an ideal solution for me!
exspansys
Me and my brother ordered one each today, £389.95 - tomtom of one city, but thats not a problem as have copilot that came with my orbit, also the date is now Jan 18th
Im going to wait for the UK o2 release of the polaris, the orbit2, looks real sexy much better than the square htc version.
I've just requested a pre-order from Expansys and I have an availability to ship of January 21st.
I guess it's taking longer and longer. I might as well start looking for a slim hard case for this. Anyone know if there is one for a brand new product?
I don't think there is any case for the cruise just yet but keep us inform if you find one

wooh Bo Selcta got to Jamica great show, they are identical though quite a rip of and I dont belive for one moment they different manufactures just different boxes that HTC packaged them in
when the rep said to me "different manufactures" i did say "do you mean from different airtime providers" he said "yeh yeh different manufactures" So i take it he had no idea the phone was sold in 2 formats but they are both the same.

So did anyone work out if the I-mate backpack fits & works on the XDAII?
well since they are both HTC Himalaya
and the only difference between I-mate, xda2 and mda2
is a printet label on the device and custom rom
then unless they made some software block it would work
CF Backpacks
Yes - They are all interchangeable ...
BTW: If anyone has one they want to sell, I need a couple for a project..

Expansys, ey? Fact is that both are not available yet and in good Expansys tradition they list products for pre-order that they cannot deliver on - they just want you to place a pre-order and hope you will stick with it once the product becomes available... OK, prices on this path are just entirely wrong, but who cares about customers at Expansys anyway
Agree Frank
Have to agree, Frank - I notice you're a local . They should at least be stating accurately when a product is to be released and what the likely wait times are.
Not to mention the fact that the grey market of these products through Expansys just messes up the support channels here in Australia. We can't compete with a zero warranty, zero support product here!!! We've got to factor replacement, support and warranty costs - Real people, real families and real time...
It's hard enough supporting the issues in the current iMate lines (Like helping customers install Widcomm Bluetooth stacks to get GPS units and Navigation systems like Destinator working) - Now that O2 is looking like it'll pull out of Australia altogether now that the Telstra Australia deal pulled away from O2 to iMate (Carrier devices) ... It's going to be interesting what happens with the grey market for these products...
Carrier Devices won't touch a unit from outside Australia!
Cheers.
Andy
Has anyone tried a CF Wi-FI (802.11b) card with the expansion pack?
Do standard CF memory cards stick out a lot or are they flush when installed?
I'm thinking about an i-Mate or XDA-II but I'll need the expansion pack and the ability for Wi-FI (802.11b).
Thank you in advance for the help...
JB
Someone has to actually get the Backpack before we can try it
I ordered one from a place that it was suggested actually had them in stock. I ordered, knowing full well of course that I'd get the "we apologize, but..." e-mail. And of course, a few hours later, I got that e-mail. They claim they had been told this week they would get them, now they are told next Wed Jan 28th. I'll believe it when I see a shipment tracking number. I think HTC has been saying "next week" for the Backpack since November.
I have a Socket CF WiFi card I've been dying to try. My Sandisk SD card works fine, but its a bit awkward the way it sticks out so far and the Socket CF card, with its small antenna, would not seem to extend beyond the edge of the XDA, according to the pictures I've seen of the CF slot on the Backpack.
HTC has handled their accessories very poorly IMO. I don't understand what the holdup is getting them out. The XDA II has been out for months now, but try and get even something as basic as a spare battery. At this rate, the XDA III will be out just as accessories for the XDA II are hitting stores
OK - thanks.
I had not realized that the backpacks were not "shipping" yet.
Please keep us posted.

CF Backpack delivery date!
G'day All,
The CF backpack shipment here is due on Feb 21st 2004. ie. Another few weeks... That's the iMate branded one.. It'll be interesting to see if the O2 branded ones turn up first - But I DEFINITELY doubt it!!
Cheers

P.S. If you want one, http://estore.pressd.com in the Pocket PC Section.
Expansion Packs have arrived at expansis UK
I have cantacted Expansis and asked when they will have the expansion packs. They say in 4 working days (Monday in my reconing)
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=109731&asource=106055
They aslo said this is their second shipment as the first lot had run out.
I also noticed that the O2 version has now gone up in price from their previous listing and is very similar to the imate price. But you have to wait 40 days for it.
If anyone has tried it out yet let me know what you think.
Adam
My local O2 shop had all bits except backpack. Charge/usb lead was £9.99. Aluminum case was £19.99. backpack (not in stock was £89.99). I bought case + stylii + lead. got £8 discount.
The girl in my local O2 shop looked at me like I was an alien when I asked for a screen protector.
haha.. its happens to me once in O2 shop......
As a manager of an O2 store I can help you out if you want to know what you can and can't get - to avoid the alien looks!
To be fair (due to, ahem, "budgets") a lot of store staff are part-time (bain of my life!) and don't get enough time to train on normal stuff let alone xdas!
O2 stores don't stock screen protectors (which is why the girl wouldn't know what you were on about!)...I have asked but to no avail.
I got a couple from the Dixons store along the road for nowt! (LOL)
Just PM me if you've got a question - but obviously I can't go delving into your account, data protection and all that!
Irnbrulad - this is a generous offer and I think you will have a queue of people baging on your door (if you let us know where it is!). I have been after the folding keyboard for xda 2 for months - any chance on letting us know where and when and how much?
Thanks again!
Ha ha, think I'm a few miles away from the majority of you guys! (north of edinburgh). As for the folding keyboard, we have yet to be given a confirmed date. There is a thumb-pad out which kinda looks like the keyboard on the blackberry device. Have a look at www.my-xda.com and follow the accessories link, then keyboards.
Hope this helps.
PS. prices are there for both keyboards too, you may be able to order the folding keyboard online, but we have yet to recieve them instore (that said, there are some stores that get priority for XDA stuff)
Thanks for taking the time to comment - if only more 02 staff were like you.
I went ot my local O2 store on saturday to buy an XDA II and was told they have none in stock and have no idea when they will be getting any. They wrote down my number on a scrap of cardboard to phone me when they get some stock - I'm not holding my breath!
They also have a lack of accessories. I would be really interested in the backpack because I do a lot of presentations and carrying everything around with me would be a great time saver - this is no-where to be found even on the net - does it actually exist?
Is it possible to get a list of O2 stores that have priority of XDA parts?
Thanks
Matt

Expansion pack first. It does exsist - not sure how many though! I've emailed someone i know in logistics to see if they can be ordered into stores. also asked which have priority. have a look on www.my-xda.com as there are details there.
Are you near london, if so let me know.
The xdaII has been out of stock for a short time at the warehouse. If you still want one pm me with your nearest big towns and i'll check the current stock
Got an answer for you. They haven't been launched yet - "hopefully in the next few weeks" is the response i got. Get back to me in a couple of weeks and i'll check again - i'll forget otherwise!
Any update to when these will be available in the uk? An Aus firm has just got them in stock so cant be far away.
I was wondering if there was any more news on the full size keyboard (can you tell I am keen!)
Thanks again - angus

UK Availability ... from the US
It seems that On The Go Solutions are happy to ship to the UK, and they just told me they have a large batch of Cruises that are expected to clear customs tomorrow. I've ordered one - and with Fedex International Express delivery it should, if all goes well, be with me some time next week.
I'll be letting you know whether all goes well.
Jim
how much of a pain is it to fill out the international order form?
how did you send them the pdf ?
Filling in the International Order Form was not especially tedious:
1) Download as PDF.
2) Open the file, Edit->SelectAll, Edit->Copy
3) Open MS Word, Edit->Paste, then tidy up the formatting a bit
4) Paste in images of the various things they wanted images of (passport back page, credit card, signature)
5) Email the document back to them. Had to mess with the image sizes a bit, as their email gateway rejects anything bigger than 3 Mbytes.
All in all, it's probably easier to print the document, fill it in and fax it back to them - but as it happened I did not have a photocopier and a fax conveniently nearby yesterday evening.
I will let you know what happens next (and here's hoping that what happens next is the prompt arrival of a shiny new Cruise!)
Jim
thanks for the prompt response!
On The Go Solutions have just dispatched 'my' Cruise via Fedex to the UK.
Usual next step should be that I get a call from the local FedEx office at UK customs, asking for a duty/VAT payment (which can be paid by credit/debit card over the phone).
I've never really understood how they figure out the duty - it seems to depend on whether they decide the goods are stationery, electric equipment, computers, agricultural machinery, ... . Personally I think the Cruise is lovely enough to qualify as a 'work of art', but I don't suppose the Customs people will agree. Anyhow, I expect to end up having to pay about 20% (17.5% VAT and 2.5% duty).
Jim
Delivered (from On The Go) today
It has arrived - so I can confirm that getting On The Go to ship to the UK seems to work just fine.
Jim
Nice. So all n all how much was it? did you get a call from customs or..?
cheers.
i see onthego have bumped the price up now
At $879 i dont think its worth it
I think that the price was $749 or $769 just a few days ago.
Hi everyone and happy new year!
I think we just have to be patient. As everybody on this forum, I cannot wait to get this baby, but I will hold fire for another 3-4 weeks.
I contacted O2 and Orange regarding availability. Orange are looking early Feb, but will have more info next week. O2 will have stock middle of Jan, so if you're not desperate, the future is orange... or blue... or even purple?
Cheers
The networks are, probably, delaying its release which is annoying for me.
Wow I cant believe that onthegosolutions would do that but it is true. Talk about price gauging. There is no way people are going to pay nearly $900 dollars when you can just wait two or three weeks and get it for under $700.
Happy to say, I placed my order when On The Go were still showing $749 on their web-site, and they have honored that price. $879 does look pretty steep! Oh the joys of capitalism !
Anyhow, the whole process of getting the thing into the UK went pretty smoothly (note: it's a good idea to phone FedEx once they've collected the package, and make sure they have a contact phone number. If they don't have a number to call you on, then the package will just sit waiting in customs until you call them).
The Cruise they sent me has a silver fascia/button panel. It looks pretty smart.
I have just been trying out HSDPA connectivity, and got 382 kbit/sec (on T-Mobile, in central London). The combination of Google Maps and in-built GPS is also good (particularly if your sense of direction is as poor as mine!).
Jim
Has anyone spoken to T-Mobile? I know they re-branded the HTC 3300 so maybe the Polaris is one they'll pick up too. I just also looked at their UK web site and under the "Coming Soon" section it mentions: "T-Mobile Touch Plus - This great touch-screen phone allows for intuitive browsing through messages, emails and music. - Expected January - on: Pay monthly". No picture so difficult to tell if it is the Touch Cruise although it sounds like it could well be.
I also noticed a few sites (e.g. expansys) now quoting Jan 18 as the availability date for the generic HTC unit so I'm hoping that I'll be able to have one in my hands within 3 weeks although if T-Mobile are also releasing it in January then I might do some arithmetic and see if I want to upgrade to a monthly contract and get the phone that way.
T-Mobile did cripple the 3300 didn't they by disabling WiFi on the UK model? Let's hope they're not stupid enough to do that again if they are picking up the Polaris.
- Julian
T-Mobile Touch Plus
I spoke a little while ago to a guy in the T-Mobile shop in Oxford Street (London), who generally knows what's what with the T-Mobile range. He told me that the T-Mobile MDA Touch Plus is the HTC Touch Dual. He wasn't aware of any near-term plan to provide the Cruise as a T-Mobile branded handset.
So at that point I opted to take the cash alternative rather than a 'free' handset - and spent the cash on buying the phone of my dreams .
Jim
Touch Cruise availabe next week.
http://www.coolsmartphone.com/news3771.html
I have Firefox tabs permanently open on most of the UK supplier's Touch Cruise (TC) pages and I refresh them occassionally. I just saw that Expansys and PowerUpMobile changed their stock-due dates from 18th Jan to 21st Jan.
It's also interesting because, for anyone who doesn't know, there's another thread running here (entitled "Angry against HTC") that is reporting a delay until week 9 on HTC TC shipments. I assume that Expansys and PowerUpMobile changed their stock-due dates because of updated info from HTC (why else would they change the dates?) so it's interesting that they only did a 3 day slip and not all the way back to week 9.
I'm not sure what all this means but I just thought I'd report it.
- Julian

Fantastic little-known feature of Google. Just type "327.65 GBP in USD" (without the double quotes) into Google and it will give you the answer. You can do all sorts of convertions this way, e.g. "29 inches in mm" or "58 cc in pints" (or "58 cc in UK pints" if you want to do it properly ). You can even do simple calculations like "(22 / 7) + 5".
Google currently converts £327.65 to 641.73529 U.S. dollars.

No idea. Black silver I guess?
I would have preferred the O2 form factor but the original will have to do as O2 is not available here in Iceland.

Have any of you been able to 'track' the shipment ? I can't see where I would find the tracking number ?
I don't see a tracking number and my status just says 'shipped'. Mine is coming tomorrow.
memory card come with it ?
just orderd mine....
i first got to hear of its release today on tracy and matt's blog. its was so sudden everywhere was just delaying it even more. anyway 86 left on devicewire after my order. i just can't belive HTC's press release from Nov 12 said it was launched then.... and only just now are we ordering it.
i hope everyone gets one, i cant wait till MONDAY.
Just ordered mine too for Saturday delivery. However, stock still showing 86, so I don't think it is updating live. Items might be lot fewer in the stock actually than it is showing and we might get the updated stock info in the morning. Hopefully, my order was in time as can't wait any longer ...... my kaiser would be on ebay on Sat .... anyone interested ???

Touch Cruise Now in at Inkino, London
Hi,
Just picked up my HTC Touch Cruise from Inkino on Tottenham Court Road in London. If you are after one I would hurry as I witnessed five being sold whilst I was there. Didn't think it would be this popular.
Mind you, my latest object of desire is one hell of a PDA/Phone (if you do not need a keyboard)
Cheers
Done a quick search but can't see anything on this here on the forum so here goes:
http://www.htc.com/uk/product/hd2/specification.html
Will one of the XDA moderators consider opening a dedicated forum for this device, now known as the HTC HD2 please?
I am toying between going straight out and buying one tomorrow morning, providing the stockists advertising them actually have the item in stock, or waiting until Christmas. Anyone else considering purchasing and of so how do we get the developers interested in doing stuff for this device?
Cheers
WB
LOL,
It was only ANNOUNCED today mate, that means you can forget about going out tomorrow and actually buy one ;-)
That said, I am going to buy one as soon as I can, hopefully somewhere around the end of october if we get lucky.
Me thinks that HTC got a best seller here, and am not worried that the XDA developers won't pick up this device anytime soon.
Until then, I keep drooling over the pics & specs
Clubbraxx,
I had a conversation with a supplier the other day and was left with the impression that some devices were already out there, waiting for today's announcement as the go-ahead for being able to release direct to the public as of now.
Needless to say I will be on the phone in the morning chasing up the said supplier and seeing what they have to say for themselves.
Just seen someone moaning about the price of the device at circa £550. Given the high-end spec of the device and taking a 3 or 4 year ownership span into account, I would say that this appears to be a reasonable price for a sim free device.
No doubt the networks will be doing their best to tie in the unwary into 3 year/multi dollar contracts to make a killing on these.
Let me know if you hear any news.
Cheers
WB
The device should be available before the end of this month. I'm looking forward to it
Btw, the device is listed on expansys for $829,99 (or €649,99).
I was told by a customer service rep at O2(UK) at the weekend, that they have the device listed for mid October release.
As an O2 customer who has a contract ending on November 1st, I am considering getting one ASAP. I am unsure however, whether to get HD2, or TP2.
QWERTY & TV out, or Monster capacitive screen. Hmmmmm.... decisions, decisions.
Any help appreciated. lol.
Please merge, so many loe threads now!

op...what have you been smoking?
Availability Update
Following my chasing up of contacts today it looks like network providers such as o2 will have their stock to be released from mid October, ie next week. Sim free providers will not be getting their stock for release until a month later, ie mid November.
The above applies to the UK only; I have no idea what the position is elsewhere.
My order is just about to go in....
WB
Made my order today
Hi all!
What do you think of this model?
I fills my needs by 200%, but i heard that some software made for older 6 and 6.1 wont work on this new 6.5? Is that right? And i've also heard that Win mobile 7 is done. if so why did they not use win 7 on this new model?
Thanks in advance
****... I bought new Touch HD one week ago... Now I see HD2 and I'm not very happy...

Depends on how much you would really use the TV out feature. They keyboard...thats different, for me if the on screen keyboard is at least as good as the iPhones I can dump the physical one and be happy.
