searching a "folder security software" - General Topics

hello folks,
i'm searching for a software(freeware) that can keep a folder save.
for wm5/6.
if somebody want to open files in it, you must enter a password first.
is there anywhere a software like this??? or a similar solution?
the only way, that i know, this time, is to create a password-encrypted
zip or rar file, but thats not a really good option in my eyes.

solution found by myself
i found a tool on my own...
it mounts a virtual storage-card with password-protection
and it's freeware

How to install CAB files

Hi!
This might seem stupid but I can't make the cab files install on my O2 XDA Exec
I know that(what I could gather from searching the forum) one has to transfer these files directly to the xda instead of using active sync , but then what after that and how?
Please need help with this. I have found so many really good and neat utilities on this forum but can't use 'em b'coz of my lack of knowledge. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanx in advance
Use "Mobile Device" in "My Computer" to access your XDA and put files in it.
Then (on XDA) launch "File Explorer", find those files and tap them to install.
If you copied just into "Mobile Device", you'll find files in "My documents" folder of your device.
Of course you can copy and run files from wherever you want.
I hope this explained your problem
Good luck
When you get more advanced you can use this:
http://ukaywares.blogspot.com/2005/10/cabinstl-104.html
It let's you install the application to any place you want without using ActiveSync...
Thanx mate, i'll try that tomorrow.
Still doesn't work
I transferred the extracted files to my XDA EXEC, when i click it , it gives an error ..this file/program is not associated with any application and to run the application first andthen open it from with in.
I even tried the cabinstaller but that just hangs up when I try to onstall the cab file through it.
Help please :?:
Hi,
what do you mean by "extracted files" ?
You have to put the CAB file into your Exec, and then tap it from Exec's file explorer.
Where did you get "not associated" error ? (PC or Exec ?)
If you got it in your Exec, it means that it wasn't a CAB file that you tapped.
Check again.

Unlock help really needed

Hello people,
I bought an Imate SP5 from ebay and its from Orange. Now I need to application unlock it.
I know I know, first thing you will say is search older topics, which I did and its driving me crazy, here are the things I have already tried and nothing worked-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330291
In archive three files.
The names begin with 1,2,3
In this order start all three
Attached Files
File Type: zip HTC.Device.Software.Unlock.zip
http://robertpeloschek.blogspot.com/2006/03/howto-application-unlock-your-windows.html
1) Simply put the *.zip file with the regeditSTG.exe in it with ActiveSync into a folder on your phone (but not onto the memory card).
2) Unzip the file with the *.zip program that comes with your phone.
3) Now start regeditSTG.exe and change the following Registry Keys...
I even downloaded an external registry editor and manged to change the registry values but it still did not unlock the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=352749&highlight=application+unlock
Download this application.
1: Run program htcunlock cvs on PC
2: Find program that is created on your phone on the startmenu in on device
3: Run exe and cross fingers (It changes settings in registry, wait for the Smiley!)
4: Powerdown and Powerup!
And any other SPV Unlock applications. But they all fail since its pretty tightly locked. I can't run any third party applications.
I think the only thing left is maybe do a ROM update but I have no idea which one to use and how to go about doing it.
Please advise me on what I can do or send me in the right direction. I will be really grateful!
Thanks.
OK, I don't know what was it, but I tried running SPV Services and it ran successfully and let me set the SuperCID and I was able to update the ROM.
So I guess one of those earlier methods did work!
Thanks anyway and just want to say that I really appreciate the members of the community that work so hard to make our phones much better and more useful.
Here is a big vote of THANKS for you guys!

Autocomplete

Maybe it is another post again about the autocomplete function, but I can't find an answer. I like this auto complete function, but the problem is that once you do a hard reset or install a new rom that all user owned words (words that were added by the system when typing) are lost. These words should be somewhere in a file, but I don't find this file.
Does anyone know what the name of this file is and where to find it?
Using File Explorer go into your Windows directory on your phone and then go to menu and click 'view all files' and you'll see a file called 'autocorrect'. That's the file you need to alter. Copy it onto your PC desktop and save a copy somewhere safe just in case you do something stupid. Now open up a copy of it on your PC and you'll see two columns - the left column is the 'typo' and the right column is what it corrects it to. You can add or change things here. I made "pcm' autocorrect to 'please call me' for example and 'tx' to 'thanks'. When you save the file do not change the format (Windows tries to save it as an Excel file- don't do that - leave it as it is which i think is txt). Now you need to replace the file on your phone however it is a locked file. Use your registry editor (I use Total Commander) and find the autocorrect file and change the settings so you can alter it. Delete the file existing on your phone and replace it with the file you just altered. Once this is done you need to soft reset and everything will work.
If you get a new phone or need to hard reset just make sure you take this file along with you and you'll keep all of your settings.
Thanks for the response, but it is not the file I am looking for. This is the file which is used when you choose the autocorrect function. This is not the file that is suggesting words while you are typing. Anyway, thank you.

Extracting CAB file from PC .exe installer

I tried searching, found this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310788&page=2 but it's not answering my question.
My Kaiser came with SPB GPRS Monitor and Sprite Backup. Both came as an installation disk (exe format) to be installed through a PC. Now, I'm looking at a way to make CAB for carrying both so that anytime I do a hard reset or reflash ROM, I can re-install both without using PC. Looking at the thread, I tried opening up the .exe and able to get the Cab files (there're 2, named 1 and 2 for each setup executable extracted), but copying the Cab and running it on my Kaiser won't work.
Is there any way? I try avoiding using 'cracked' cab apps .. I have it as bundled for the Kaiser, there should be a legit way for me to have it as cabs ..
There is a way.
run the installer from your PC. when the installation screen comes up asking you to choose between storage card and device, DONT CHOOSE. instead, run a file manager and search for the cab file. it usually goes either in windows/appmgr or in application data/volatile
What if in this case, it doesn't ask, it immediately says check your WM device, there's further instruction.
Second question: is the search done on the PC or the WM?
I'll definitely give it a try .. and thanks!
if u got activesync installed on your PC, run the exe files and find the .cab files on program files/microsoft activesync folder
semoga berhasil
Thank you. Terima Kasih Will give it a try
the cab file doesn't always appear on your PC.. but it does always appear on your PPC
look for it in your PDA when it tells you to look for further instructions..
WinRAR (rarlabs.com) is free and will extract most files from EXE installer archives. However, if WinRAR won't then UniversalExtractor will. You can search for it on google and download a demo.
THANK YOU
Thanks to all who has responded.
I managed to find the CAB files under PC's respective folders (Some are under Active Sync, some like Holux, created it's own folder). Tested some of the CABs found there and it worked. Now I'm a happy camper, got all of the CABS that I need (especially GPRS Monitor )
Last question:

Under which folder I should be looking? I tried TEMP but it's empty (that's before I confirming the install process)

I always do this to extract cab files from a exe installer and most of the time the cab file can be found at windows/appmgr/install
very useful and a serious time saver
Sticky or Wiki?
Thanks again for responses. I'm able to get what I need and believe this can be put as part of FAQ, Wiki or Sticky?
Sticky no.. but i will add it to the guides thread soon..

creating cab file from skyscape exe?

i've tried all the 10.000 methods in all of the other "how to cab from exe", but none of them seemed to work, now im just curious if maybe its not possible in the type of exe that im installing. What im trying to get the cab of is the medical programs from skyscape. When installing from my computer, it asks for some stuff, like if i agree with the terms etc. etc., and the it also asks what kind of install i want to do.. i select "Trail" and then it proceeds on installing it to my device.. but i cant get the cab anywhere!
does any of you deal with those skyscape files? or otherwise if any of you is interested/bored to give it a try, www.skyscape.com, download any file as a test-drive (trail) and install it as a trail also.. it would help me a lot since im gonna be traveling and i dont drag my computer along all the time, and i want to be able to install my programs in case of i reset my phone.
Thanks, much appreciated!
Could try this Universal Extractor
If you install with ActiveSync, it stores the .cab files that its extracting from the .exe file. So while you're running the executable file, installing the software, go to C:\Users\*YourSySName*\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\ActiveSync and see if it is there.
