WM6 help - General Topics

Hi guys! Haven't been on here for ages! This week my new WM6 I-mate Ultimate 9502 came, so I ditched Symbian and I'm back on Windows Mobile!
I have tinkered a fair bit, but there are a couple of things I can't figure out.
1. I bought the device sim free, and I'm having trouble setting up MMS. When I put my UK voda sim in it automatically downloaded some settings, but I think they're wrong because whenever someone sent me an MMS, I'd just get an SMS telling me to go and collect it off the voda website. I fiddled with it, and now it doesn't do anything at all so if anyone could give me a step by step guide it'd be great. I tried using this guide, but it didn't work:
http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?t=74503
I think maybe I need more info on setting up the MMS application options themselves.
I remember my Wizard used to do this, but I somehow managed to set it up in the end.
2. My pal has a Toshiba G900 and I have seen him viewing normal Youtube/myspace with all the embeded flash working. I can't remember what browser or flash plugin he used. Does anyone know how to view flash content within a browser?
3. What app can I use to overclock? I used to use Omapclock on my wizard, but the 9502 uses a Qualcomm processor.
Cheers,
Mike

No takers eh?
I think I have asorted the MMS settings by using the HTC installer.
I also now realise that the reason I couldn't find a qualcomm CPU overclocker is because they don't exist.
Still looking for a flash-in-browser solution if anyone can help?

Other WM Apps on 750

New to Cheetah, previously on Hermes. I have a couple of questions as I transition.....
1) How is the battery life? I guess I am a power user and like to d'load msgs every 5 mins and use xpressmail for work. Hermes barely gets me through 5 hours on a full charge. Will I get the same with 750?
2) Will the apps that I use on Hermes work for Cheetah? (i.e. HTweakC, PIM Backup, Bandswitch, softkey changer)
3) Whats up with the "Custom" ROM's?? Where can I find those? Are there any available as I have been looking in the WIKI and I see nothing but shipped ROM's. Im use to having many to choose from, and I donate generously since I do not have the time to do them myself.
Help!
Wow, I cant believe that 75 people can read a post and NOT ONE response! Some help this forum is... The HERMES section was MUCH more active. But let me attempt to HELP by letting you know what I have found.
1. Some of the apps do work for this phone that had worked in Hermes.
1) Bandswitch- Works
2) HTweakC- Sort of works (I received a msg saying "not for the 750" but the registry edits were made.
3) HTC X-button- works
4) IM+ has a different file but works.
As far as "custom ROM's" I have not found any and have been searching on other sights as well. I will keep you posted.
I think this is the biggest change you will encouter switching from a Hermes.
There is so much more activity on most of the other forums. Why? Maybe because the Treo is a real business device? Who will tell...
The same goes for custom ROM's. There is no custom ROM as for yet. But flashing SPL has been done for a short time. Check it here.
Battery life for me is two days.
Most applications will work on the Treo. One application that has some layout problems is when entering the settings is WeatherPanel, but it still does work.

Suggested ROM & Updates? - T-Mobile SDA

I have a very standard T-mobile USA SDA running WM5. In addition to phone, I mostly use it for email, occasional browsing, maps using Pocket Streets and for music using the player. I am thinking about doing one of the ROM upgrades. Is WM6 or 6.1 worth the effort? I've heard that a few of the non-TMO OEM roms (like SP5m WM5) work well and they upgrade the radio -- which would probably be a good thing since my SDA has always been a little light on signal holding.
Anyway, any suggestions on what to are welcome. I've read Karhoe's guides so I think I can tackle all the techy stuff. I have a backup phone in case I royally screw up. My SDA is unlocked and ready to be violated.
Definatively worth it. I recommend the rickwyatt build http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406716
The panel interface is beautiful and fast. Media Player is great from the home page.
Hey there, same phone and USA T-mobile service here.
You are in luck as rickwyat just gave us a final version of rom he worked on and I can say its great (awsome in US english)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406716
check Kar Hoe's "Upgrading HTC Tornado to Windows Mobile 6.1"
http://karhoe.net/content/view/21/1/
and ejoy,
wecome to xda forums btw
I did the RickWyatt ROM and found that it doesn't support voice tags. It is nice though. Regardless, I reflashed with the Nitro WM6 Platinum. That seems to have what I need. Now if I could just get my media player hard keys to work (I actually use them) as fwd, back & play/pause, that would be great.
I have a tmobile sda, upgraded to wm6 (don't remember which rom) and i love it. If you aren't afraid of flashing the ROm, totally go for it.
it fixed many things for me
1) date resetting when battery removed (although this is supposed due to the radio update, not wm6 itself)
2)I had the stuck in headset mode problem. wm6 fixed it for me (although others haven't been so lucky)
3) runs faster, smoother...
Oh, but there is one thing I miss from the tmobile rom, one of the standard ringtones I loved... but unfortunately it is not on wm6.... so, BACK UP THE RINGTONES if there are any you like.
-and- back up all your contacts with PPCPimbackup since one wrong move in MS outlook will delete all your contacts (i swear i had the right boxes checked but i still lost all my phone numbers )
RealSkier I was gonna ask if you could send me the ring tones from the original Tmobile sda rom.... but it looks like I am too late with this message and my advice haha
if anyone still has the ringtones from the original sda rom, please if you could get in contact with me. I miss one of them so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thank you,
ian

Need info to make my own Custom ROMs for X7510

Hi people,
I come from the other side of the fence "Palm"
I just upgraded to the X7510, sweet piece of hardware and beautiful 5" display
So i'm very familiar in the Palm Treo world on customizing my own ROMs.
After reading & searching A LOT in here and other PPC forums, i still have a few utilities i can't seem to find.
So i read there is also a BootLoader screen in the PPC world, very typical of the HTC devices, makes custom ROMing very simple.
However, i still haven't come across the name of the applications you guys use to Dump (backup) the current ROM, and the Upload the new ROM into the device.
Or it seems like the only way is via ActiveSync 4.5 ?
Another doubt i have is about the Unlocked part.
My device is straight from HTC unlocked, does it mean it is fully SIM and CID unlocked, or it's only SIM unlocked?
By that i want to figure out if i need to run the CID unlock before doing the Custom ROMs etc.
And last but not least...
I'd like to contribute with the 7510 ROM original dump, seems like the Wiki doesn't have it yet,
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Athena_Upgrades
so i'll probably need the same whatever tool you guys use, as asked in my first question, to backup the old ROM.
which will also help us fill the empty space in the Wiki left for the very same question
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Athena
"How to dump the ROM"
Thanks
Cheers!
well... since i got no response from anybody
Thanks to myself
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408519
found the tool i was looking for to build my own rom.
and to top it off i finally found the ROM backup topic
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334680
now beats me on the mobile 6 subsection, and something that is totally on another area for another phone... oh well...
Good on you allgamer for taking a lead here. Some of us have been pushing for a separate 7510 forum under the Athena section. Without that we 7510 owners are continuously looking for "needles in haystacks".
cktlcmd and eaglesteve have been burning the 7510 candle for us. With your input we'll get this device on the map yet.
Hey i also just got a x7510, and id love see a x7510 rom!
hell yeah, you can say that again.... it was so hard to find anything, some times stuff like this the Search engine did not pick it up
like the rom dump, on another phone, i understand it is all PPC, but still it might have been different for some models
at least that was true in the Palm world, so i guess in the PPC world we'll have it easy, since it looks like all models dump appears to be the same.
as for the utility, never would have guessed it would have been found mentioned within a thread about something completely different.
anyways, now that i know, i'll be writing more about it, once i start working on it.

well, i don't mind sharing my custom ROMs, once i start cooking them.
but don't expect too much since, what i usually like to do is simply clean up all the junk that i don't need
then replace them with Freebies, or registered software, which if that is the case, i wont be able to share it here.
x7510 owners - forward march!
Something several of us are keen to see is a work around to make RealVGA work with Spb Mobile Shell. AllGamer, you mentioned in a post under "SPB Mobile Shell incompatible with Real VGA 96 dpi on the X7510" that you got a solution posted elsewhere working. Can you share with us how you did that?
Also, my devise is definately not running as smooth and quick as I would like it (or expect it to given its processor). As a prelude to getting some cooking going (and I'm not a chef) could we start to identify some tweaks that will make the stock ROM more efficient? For example I always ramp up the siz of cache etc. via MemMaid but to be honest I'm never sure whether it does any good or not.
Hi robjhellis,
Are you saying the performance in x7510 is not as smooth as it should be ? Can you please tell during what operations ie. Video etc it becomes sluggish. That would be a good place to start with.
Thanks,
Srini
Just guess, but i think that is the so much talked about behaviour of the video drivers issue on all HTC products
Videos are great no lag (well when i play them in coreplayer full screen, with specs up full). Only one "problem" lol...the audio is exactly -0.512milli seconds behind (when you hear it). So stupid tried all kinds of videos same result lol so thankfully coreplayer has an option were you just put "-0.512" in and ill kinda sync up the audio.. windows media player is pretty much pointless to play video now since you can't put -512 anywhere and the audio lags big time.
the audio in general is really bad, put on real expensive headphones and you can hear ssshhhhh hissss - the background noise.
Note: i was so shocked/surprised that i did a hard reset thinking maybe its something that i might of installed, but nope problem still there

Hi Guys, my issue isn't playing video - I haven't got to that stage yet on my 7510. Rather its just slow moving around menus, reloading after a soft reset, opening programs etc. I can sometimes count up to 3 and even 5 after selecting a tab before the tab appears e.g. Settings-System. I've also now started to see the start icon in the top left corner not redraw after a soft reset. There is much more lag than I see on my TyTN which, of course, is running a custom ROM

I will suggest to check in the ATHENA WM6 section the thread how to speed sogarth base rom....
Basically install netCF3.5 , FDCsoft Taskmanager 3.1 and start changing how/stopping started services and applications (There are many lauchxx keys in the registry to change to avoid self application startup)

By any chance, do you know how to exlude Biotouch from starting list? It is not started from startup links, or at least not directly. I was browsing the regs also, but could not find anything. I use FTouchSL and UL for cube effect on Today screan, so Biotuch seems to be useless.
Also, do you now what a wt5portm or something like that is for ?

Can you be specific where to change this setting on Core Player?
its in advance - > near the bottom "manual A/V offset +/-"
but it still dosn't work...anyone got a solution plz....i don't know what to do the audio is always out of sync for any video..
I've found the same lag on audio and it is SO annoying! Nothing seems to fix it!!
I've created a quick "how-to" on dumping the x7510 ROM, which may be found here: http://htcathena.freeforums.org/dumping-your-x7510-s-rom-t6.html#p7
I will follow up with a "how-to" on re-constructing the ROM (unless somebody else feels inclined to do so instead). [Edit - found this how-to] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337066
However, we still need HardSPL or similar. CMONEX told me she and Olipro are working on an unlocker with that functionality, so we'll need to wait a tad! Once we have that we can start cooking some ROM's.

No MMS - How Can I Enable/Add It?

Hi guys,
I downloaded a few ROM's over the last few days because I was not happy with some features or the stability of them. Eventually I decided upon Tomal's 8.81 ROM.
I am new to the HTC Universal and indeed Windows Mobile in general, though I am starting to grasp it. I purchased a Movistar version (Spanish) and corrected the keypad settings for the spanish language etc, but I have since realised that there is no MMS available on the ROM.
I actually need MMS for my business (I purchased the HTC Universal to use for business as I previously had a K800i with Opera and SSH etc running on it, but needed something better) so without MMS I cannot use the phone.
I would like to keep the phone as it is, with the ROM I have on it, because it has taken me a good few hours to set everything up as I like it, and the ROM is stable and very fast, and also has all the features I like.
So is there anyway I can add MMS to my messaging area? All I have right now is Text Message and Email, both of which are working fine. From what I understand it is not present in Windows Mobile 6, is this correct, and if so, what addon must I install to use it?
Also, as a side thought, I changed the GPRS settings to stay connected all the time and not on-demand, so the phone is connected all the time; where can I change it back to on-demand as I seem to have lost where it was.
Many thanks in advance!!
install it
Wow, this has worked a treat, many thanks friend, it is very much appreciated!!

satnav on old xda 2. is it possible

HI all, Ive just been given an old XDA 2 (II). It seems to work ok.
What is the latest version of Windows that this can run and is there a tutorial on how to install it
Before I invest any time or money could somebody give me a pointer as to if I could run tom tom with this?
If so what do i need?
I have used a nokia 6680 with a bluetooth receiver running tomtom and this worked fine. I am assuming the xda runs a different version.
If anybody could tell me where to start i would be very grateful.
Many Thanks
Richie
Check if you have an XDA II, aka Himalya or XDA IIi ala Alpine
Start - Settings - Device Info - Identity
PH10B - Himalaya
PH10C - Alpine
If it's a Himalaya you can upgrade it to WM6.1 or WM6.5. If an Alpine then you are stuck on WM2003.
As for SatNav TomTom 6.5 does install on a WM6.5 Himalaya, just, but i have been unable to test it due to not having a bluetooth GPS.
Thanks so much for a quick reply
Its PH10B so Himalaya
It seems to be windows 4.20.0 so quite far behind I'm guessing
Excellent
I assume I need to be connected to my PC to upgrade, the cradle/usb lead that came with it is not being recognised in XP on my machine.
Is there some drivers I need to download?
Have you installed Active Sync? Very easy to download from Microsoft.
For an updated ROM check the Himalaya section of this forum, there are many to choose from.
I have a Himalaya but it is purely for test purposes, my primary PPC is a Trinity.
Thanks, Active Sync installd, so simple when you know how.
USB now working
Are the ROMS the operating system(windows 6.5 etc)?
Ive now gone to the Himalaya thread.
I see my questions are already answered there
many Thanks
once you have worked out which device you have and can look in the right section most things have been answered already.
i seem to recall that when i installed TomTom 6.5 on my Himalaya it had to go on first and then i had to remove all the voices bar the one i wanted to ahve any space left for anything else. never actually used it as i don't have a BT GPS receiver.
Before i start to do anything could i just check something.
the three main things i would like to do are:
Upgrade the OS to the latest but more importantly most stable version
unlock the sim from 02 only
and add a decent satnav program.
What would be correct order to do this, obviously satnav last.
But does the os need to be done before the sim unlock?
Thinking back to my early days with the Himalaya, i unlocked it and then upgraded it.
Check out All in one SIM unlock to remove the SIM lock. I had success with the early version an one Himalaya and two work Alpines.
The upgrade will totally wipe the device so anthing that is installed will get deleted.
I tried the sim unlock tool but i get a 'does not know what program to open it' message did i miss something?
I flashed the rom ok to a few different versions, I'm going to try the one in your signature ather 6.1
I also tried lastest version of tomtom but it when it came to install it said not enough room? I tried installing an older version of tomtom and it worked fine.
Any tips on that?
I was using a 2gb card?
Can't remember much about the SIM unlock tool, only thing springing to mind is to check that are trying to run it direct on your PDA?
Only ever tried TomTom v6.5. Think the issue is that by default it installs all the foreign voices into System Storage, which once you get it installed and running you can delete and recover space.
Can't say as i use my Himalaya for much these days as i have Trinity.
After a few days of constant trying you get the hang of it in the end.
Thanks so much for the replys. Ive never used a pda before and to start using one thats 10 years old is a bit stupid. However i now have the latest version of tomtom all up and running in time for my london to turkey drive on monday.
I do have an iphone but not much good when there is no 3g to download the maps
Still didnt get the unlock tool to work but i shall keep trying.
Nothing stupid in using a Himalaya, especially as a satnav, the 3.5" screen is great for that.
It has also given you something to learn the basics on in case you take the jump to a WM phone.
