Windows PSR.exe ...everyone's new best friend

Hi all, so I have found out about this F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C (yes all caps to emphasize it's fantacticness) called "PSR.exe" found in Vista and Windows 7
PSR.exe stands for "Problem Screen Recorder" and it does more than just that.
To begin:
Start > PSR.exe > Enter ... the show begins
I'm a PC, so I love this feature.
Videos are great, but they seem to always be inconvenient to make and edit, and frequently the video seems to contain many long waiting parts.
with PSR you can start it up, go through activities, and then stop it, and it saves your file as a MHTML file abd really low file size.
There is also more great things about this....
It records your activities and types them up for you
It highlights the area of focus automatically
It can be played as a slideshow
It saves as a zip file
You can still edit the shots and add comments
Now not only is this great for someone to record problems and show you, but the reverseis true...you can record "How To's" much easier and quicker and post guides.
Combine it with the Free Sparus EveryWan Personal edition WinMo Controller/viewer, and you can show someone how to cook, install, etc.etc.etc...

First, posting warez is not allowed. Second, if you look at my details (top left of post) there are stars, I support the forum.

Having tried other inking/drawing/note taking apps, they don't seem to do well with the capacitive screen so you end up with wobbly inaccurate lines.
Is this one better...I will give it a try, but would also value your opinion

Pleased you brought this here Nighthawk..... I was just about to do it myself.
Yes, it's a great little New Application.
Very clean and uncluttered.
Loves
1. Background Import:-
I rather like the idea you can import either as a Background or a File a picture.
What is interesting in the Background selection is you can select Camera. Next step take a Photo and it's automatically imported into DynaInk.
2. Multiple Undo's:-
This is brilliant and is a god send of a time saver.
3. Dynamic Brush Selection:-
Gives the Brush & Quill a natural drawing ability.
Dislikes
1. Removing unwanted ink strokes:-
If you draw to the edge (or near) of the screen and then select Undo then undo your strokes, after the Undo window disappears instead of clearing away all the ink strokes selected it leaves the ink on screen that was previously shown outside of the Undo window.
In other words it clears away any strokes within the Undo window but leaves the ones outside on the screen.
2. Finger Painting
It works but it's a bit hit & miss.
Maybe a Capacitive Stylus will help with this.
Queries
1. Portrait/Landscape
According to the Manual it states the program works in either Portrait or Landscape.
I can't find anywhere in how to make the program change to Landscape?
Improvements
1. Zoom Feature
It would be great if we had an option to zoom in on the work.
This would certainly help with the finger painting in help getting the finger in the right place.

I did give it a try and as a drawing application it is excellent, even just on a few minutes playing. I have the artistic ability of a small, sun-hardened cowpat (or say Tracy Emin) and the pen mode can even make a few of my daubs look reasonable.
However, I primarily wanted a scribbler for notes, for which it works up to a point if you are prepared to go slow and steady, but even then it sometimes loses the plot.
If I was a sketcher I would buy this in a heartbeat, but I don't rate it for note taking, at least if you only have your finger handy

Just received a reply back from DynaInk to this one.
Hi,
Thanks for reporting this problem. As I see it only occurs when you undo all your steps. This case DynaInk does not refresh the screen.
I will correct it ASAP, until that you can use File/New to undo all your steps.

Trust me... you won't be disappointed.

Yeah, I got responces from DynaInk last night after I posted a couple of questions to them and such, about 2 hours after I sent them. I am really impressed with that.
I can mention that the software supports WVGA, they just didn't list it in the overview.
As for rotating, could it be a HD2 issue? I'm going to fiddle with registry and will let you know.

Yes.. I've now sent two messages and both came back within the hour (or thereabouts).
As to the rotating, the manual doesn't give too much info (apart from actually saying Portrait/Landscape).
Would be interesting if there is a reg key.
The developer's going to send me an email very soon with the update to the problem I found on screen refresh. I'll post it here as soon as it comes through, along with any other snippets of info.

I've done the registry hack, but it didn't work (created CAB). I suspect it has to do with the value needed for the HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\WhiteList >>>

You should drop them a line via the support section on their website and ask about them making a Notes application, seems to me they have a lot of the work already done.

It's a good thought and one that I may just follow up on, thanks.
The main problem seems to be that the fine movement and close curves required to write is misinterpreted, so you seem to get random straight lines joining what I'd guess was two points detected as having been pressed on the screen.
If you write big and slowly it's mostly ok, but I wonder if the screen can ever work properly for notes without a stylus.
Certainly not the software's fault though - it's a tidy bit of kit!

Can you tell me what it actually does to the software or how it's rotated?
Is it done automatically as you rotate the screen?

It's just adds DynaInk to the GSensor Whitelist (registry), same as we had to do for TomTom.

Hi all,
New to XDA, reading plenty of posts and eagerly awaiting my HTC Desire (coming from the UK, obviously held up by the recent volcanic ash problems).
I've been working on an app called twot and thought someone here might benefit from it (?). It installs on your PC (very light, doesn't leak memory and works on XPSP2-Win7) and watches your desired twitter stream. The idea is, you tweet from your phone (or work, etc) and twot picks up your tweet and executes whatever script or application you choose.
I'm sure there's heaps of apps out there that do this, but I kind of wanted to design this one to do exactly what I want. It works off a simple mdb that you have to edit manually (sorry no GUI for this yet) that matches a recognized command with an action. For example, I control my aircon by using "ac on" and "ac off". When twot (running in the systray) picks up "ac on", it runs "ac_on.bat" in the application directory (specified in the db) which in turn uses psexec (included this, hstart, and a few other things in the zip to help script stuff up) to launch a script on my htpc, that uses ir server suite (awesome free tool) to issue a command to the ir transmitter to turn the AC on. I know it sounds like a long winded approach, but it's not that complicated (and it's free!).
I do the same to turn the virtual fireplace on (psexec in interactive mode) and initialize web cams around the house to take a picture and email it to whatever email address i specify. To deal with parameters I've told twot to watch for anything starting with "%". When it reads each tweet in and finds %'s, it treats them as parameters and stores them in an array. Then if it detects a command (eg, "webcam") it calls the specified application/script and parses the array of parameters to it. (eg. "c:\scripts\myscript.bat paramOne paramTwo"). The tweet looks like "webcam %paramOne %paramTwo".
Anyway, It's written in VB but i plan on porting it over to .net when i get a minute. I've attached the zip . It is a very early version so it will evolve. Feedback is always welcome
Oh also, If anyone wants the source, let me know. It's fairly basic code and quite short

DUDE THIS IS AWESOME.
-UI is nice and clean, also very intuitive
-Hand writing experience is the best I've used.
Things to consider:
- fit to screen button as a shortcut if you've zoomed too far in and need to get out quick.
- page navigation could be located in the bottom right and left corners of the screen, makes it a bit more intuitive. Where the up and down arrows are Now for navigation could act as an area for stating what page your on.(e.g page 6/9)
Things I'm personally looking for:
- drop box integration and PDF annotation support

Not sure I understand the question - the default behavior is to allow for zooming and panning with two fingers (if the fingers start very close together, zooming is disabled). This behavior can be configured so that you can pan with a single finger or disable touch input entirely, in which case the pen button can be configured to pan (and there are zoom options available in the application menu).
If the pen isn't being recognized, try setting Force Pen in the preferences.

As a long-time lurker, I registered an account just to talk about this app! I've been in love with my Thinkpad Tablet for almost a year now, but I never really "clicked" with any of the handwriting apps available for it, which really sort of frustrated me. I tried out your app, and so far I've been really enjoying it! I do have a question: is there an easy path to convert the handwritten text from the Write app on the tablet into a typed form on my PC?
Basically, I'm looking for a way to use the TPT to capture my handwriting when I'm out and about, as it's easy to carry the TPT and work in any environment. The ideal solution would be some function/process to then export the document from the Write app and have it convert it to .txt or something. If I had to e-mail it to myself, or use ES File Explorer to drop it onto my file-share at home where I could get at it from my desktop PC, that would be fine too.
Just looking for recommendations on the least-frustrating way possible to do what I want to do!

If you have Evernote installed, you can use "Send Current Page" from the Document submenu and select Evernote, which will OCR the page and make it searchable. I'm not sure if there is an easy way to extract the converted text. In the future, I will look into exporting all pages at once to Evernote.
What are your main reasons for wanting to convert handwriting to text (especially since any conversion will introduce quite a lot of errors unless your handwriting is flawless)? To be consistent with the rest of your documents? For searching? For sending to others? Something else?

I don't have Evernote installed, but I'll install it just to try the feature you're talking about.
Basically, I would want to convert handwriting to text in order to be able to do a number of things:
1. Easily post things I've written to my blog.
2. Move chapters of my stories into an editable word-processor-compatible format.
3. Send to an editor.
4. Archive in an easily appendable format...in the case of my stories, each one would eventually go into a single larger file as it's polished/finished and saved on my network drive and backed up.
The writing application that came with the TPT was pretty decent at translating my writing to text, but I didn't like using it to write as much as yours, and on top of that, when I rooted the tablet and installed CM 8 (or whatever version this is), that handwriting app didn't come along for the ride. I didn't realize at the time that it wouldn't be part of the package, so I'd been looking for suitable replacements. Quill had been where I'd settled until I saw your post, and I just like the functionality of your app better so far when it comes to usability while doing my scribbling.

This is a great handwriting app. I have bee using Quill for almost a year since I couldn't find another app that can do what it can. However, this app does more than Quill and I am considering switching over to this app. There are a few things I would like to see added to this app before I do. I would like to be able to draw lines and geometric shapes. It would be great if you could add an auto save function, that way I dont have to worry about losing my notes. While using Write I found myself getting ticked off by the zoom levels. When I tried to zoom to lever .65, it would automatically got to .75. Instead of having the volume keys used to undo/redo it would be better to have the used for changing pages and adding pages. I also noticed that if you have many pages of notes you wont be able to quickly go to a specific page of notes, you have to go through all the pages. A way to get around that is by making thumbnails of the pages inside the document so you can easily browse through them. Overall this is a very good app, it just needs those few things to completely win me over.

The document is automatically saved whenever it loses focus or the screen turns off, so the only thing that could cause you to lose your notes would be Write crashing ... if you've experienced this, let me know! Or if by auto save, you meant backing up to a different location, you could try something like SugarSync, which allows you to sync folders on Android. You can also change the folder where documents are saved (in advanced preferences) for other sync applications that don't let you specify the folders to be synced.
I've been thinking about the best way to handle geometric shapes, so there might be something like this in a future release (but not the next release).
The zoom is intentionally limited to discrete steps. The idea is to usually work at zoom = 1 and adjust the page size and ruling (i.e. line spacing) as desired. So if you prefer the way the page looks at zoom = 0.65, you can change the default Y ruling from 40 to 40*0.65 = 26.
The next release of Write will allow the volume keys to be configured.

I was worried that the document didn't save by itself since there was an option under the document menu to "save now." I thought that meant that I would have to click on that every time I finished taking notes. Adjusting the page size has solved the problem I was having with the zoom. The more familiar I get with this app the more comfortable I am writing with it. Keep up the good work and thanks for the fast reply. Oh, when will the next release be, if you don't mind me asking?

I love how responsive it is, best free/paid app I've tried. I would like to see a different background other than normal paper. I have always liked writing on graph/grid paper. Thanks for the app and keep up the good work.

You can configure the page color and background by selecting Page Setup from the application menu. To get grid paper, for example, select one of the "grid" options for "Ruling".

Been messing with some of the setting and found the grid/graph paper, that has tons on options, and I found pen only input which always is need or at least for me it is. The more I play around with this app the more I see what other apps needed.

Extract UI strings from firmware / device

Hi.
Before I start with my question, just a little background. I work in a user guide development firm, and mainly work on Galaxy devices.
One of the most time-consuming process in my work is to match all UI strings (app names, menu text, labels, etc) of the actual device with the user guide.
This is currently being done with human power, with a staff looking at the user guide, check the device if this is correct, and annotate the draft PDF if the UI strings don't match.
If this was for just one language, it's doable. But with 40 or so languages (including Arabic, Cyrillic, Chinese), it definitely makes me want to puke.
This is a very tiring, eye-straining work that I'm trying to resolve, for everyone's sake.
I tried decompressing the Galaxy firmware myself, but the XML data is encoded into binary(for what reason I have no idea), and is not readable.
So now I'm turning to the masters and hope for any luck.
What I would like to know is ...
Hack the Galaxy firmware(md5), and extract UI strings for all language and save in spreadsheet or something, or
Mirror the device's screen on the desktop, copy the desired UI string, and paste it to a desktop application(e.g. Adobe Acrobat).
If the first option is possible, then I can utilize the data for some sort of automation, and would be the best.
If the second option is possible, then I would no longer have to type all kinds of foreign characters(this is also a very time-consuming work), and make some progress in timeline.
If all options are not possible, and there's absolutely no way of automating this process, then well... I guess I'll go see the eye doctor more often than now.
Any ideas or helps would be great.
