USB Pin Connectors/ 3.5 mm Headphone Adapter - HTC Vox

I wish to use a standard earphone (other than that bundled by HTC) with 3.5 mm stereo pin. But the problem is that HTC accessories are not readily available in India. Now what I thought is, can we not make a homemade adapter by cutting a mini USB cable and connecting / soldering it with a standard 3.5mm stereo adapter. In that case the microphone of course will not work. I have read at HTC site that the mini USB of HTC vox (may be all other phones of HTC) is a propreitory 11 pin connector. So can a standard mini USB cable be satisfactorily used ?
Anybody has any idea ?

This is what I use with my VOX
http://www.semsons.com/2miusband3st.html
it works perfect, and I got it delivered to my home in India.
but I dont use it anymore cause I have got the new Jabra BT3030 bluetooth stereo headset which is so perfect.

Thanks Prajith. I am thinking of buying one.

Also ebay
Do a search on ebay for "USB audio adapter for HTC Vox". They are very cheap.

BUY IT from XDA DEVELOPERS STORE
Its available in the store.xda-developers.com

@naidu001
you can get two of the connectors I mentioned in that price.
and hey it can be used for charging too, which the connector you mentioned cannot.

Rightly said Prajith your conector has boyh USB mini and 3.5 jack. Actually I purchased a few things from another site where postage was further cheap at $3 per item. But it seems that cost of the items are cheaper at the link shown by Prajith.
Anyway I am searching for an adapter with miniUSB, 3.5 earphone jack and microphone too for answering calls. I know this will be avaialable but the shipping costs are main.

@parthabhatta
talk to some of the other windows mobile users near place and buy this together. That way shipping cost becomes very less and they may offer a discount also. I had bought 30 of those, now I have only one and that too I dont need.
I would seriously suggest that you try a bluetooth stereo headset, you would never again use a wired headset. Ever!

Let me know if any of you folks have bought this miniusb to 3.5 mm audio jack converter for Vox from xda store. How easy is to order one from there?
I live in Bangalore. Is there any one knows which is the right place here to find it?

I ordered it from brando shopping. I don't remember the price paid but they have a standard 3 $ per item charge for shipping anywhere. The item will reach you within a fortnight maximum.
The url is probably shop.brando.com.hk or google with brando shop and you will find the exact address. No extra customs duty etc has to be paid.

Thanks PrabhatBhatta,
i went to Bangalore's National Market and tried a few adaptors, none could really work actually. Then i tried a final one which is the same as seidio one, which worked atlast for me. I bargained it for Rs160.

Broken original headset - help !?

Hi folks,
apparently the headset that came with my XDA II device and which I use for listening to my music is in trouble. The left earphone is not working correctly. Most of the time it's completly mute but sometimes I get it to work by playing around and bending the cable right above or beneath the mike (the little thing you use to adjust volume, take and end calls). So I figure it's a loose connection/broken cable. To check on this I'd like to open the microphone part but I don't know how. It looks rather fragile and I don't wanna make things worse.
So what I need is a hint how to safely open this device. And if all fails maybe an address where to get a new headset. There are only a few original headsets on ebay and o2 Germany doesn't sell these headsets.
Thanxs for your replies.
Z.

the headsets on ebay work perfectly well and are a real bargain. bought 5 pcs for 1€ each recently, hope those will last as long as my xda (waiting for it to return from rma).

Searched for XDA 2 headset on ebay UK. Got nothing but the official ones selling at 8 pounds each which is still a major rip off.
Anyone here know of any places to get the official headset (or even an unofficial one that has the mic/control buttons on it?) for a cheap price?

Car Dock

I want the official car dock... simple right?
Problem is that I live in Canada, HTC won't ship it here or to a mailbox on their side of the border. They require a US credit card or whatever. Is there any way to get these from elsewhere?
Try the usual suspects...
My recommendation is that you try to get it used from either Amazon or Ebay, I don't think that you have any other options.
I don't have the original dock, as my car has integrated bluetooth, but I bought this car mount: Kensington Windshield /Vent Car Mount with Quick-Release Cradle for iPhone/iPod touch. Yes, I know what it says, but it works perfectly with the N1, especially if you have a case and don't want to take your phone out of it every time you get in your car.
As far as a car charger, you need to get this: Motorola Vehicle Power Adapter MicroUSB Rapid Rate Charger, there is no other charger that works better than this, and it is actually very cheap (US$ 5.49). It will actually charge your phone while using navigation, with GPS and bluetooth active, and full screen brightness, that's how good this charger is.
I actually modded the mount so it will hold the cable, I will try to post a picture later on.
I hope that this helps.
I really want the official dock as it has speakers and hookups for 3.5mm so I can listen to music from my phone.
ebay, I tried that. I don't want to pay $200 for a car dock. They are so over priced on there. Amazon.com doesn't ship most of their stuff to canada, however I did find it on there (thanks). I will try purchasing one of these and see what happens.
In the US does HTC have a store you can walk into to buy this dock? I find it doubtful but I'm going on vacation in the US next week, thinking maybe I could pick one up...
No store...
No, HTC doesn't have stores in the US at all. I know that a few months ago, some T-Mobile stores were carrying some of the N1 accessories, but I think that that is a very long shot. If you are coming here, I would recommend that you order it from HTC and have it express mailed to wherever you will be staying, that should solve your problem. Good luck.
Except for how they don't take Canadian credit cards...
You can have mine for $60 (the price I paid after tax) + shipping. Do you want the desktop dock too?

I used these guys to get my Nexus one to Australia. They are a mail forwarding company. they don't even charge you a commission over and above normal shipping afaik, they get a special deal with DHL and make money on the difference.
As for the credit card, mine worked when i put my normal address for the street, but put a US state as the state.
Im gonna get this carholder: http://goo.gl/IJdUG

Kickass Car Holder!

got this installed in my mitsubishi lancer ralliart! mounted it to my handbrake! there is a microphone mounted on the holder! just had to plug it in to the ciggarette lighter jack and a cable to the AUX on my stereo! and voila handsfree kit for 25 pounds!
really well made! fits the phone "like a glove"

was going to ask this question aswell? Does it?
I bought one of these when they first came out - really excellent, as are all Kidigi holders. The speaker and microphone are high quality, good enough to allow you to use it easily as a hands-free kit. No distortion to the speaker, but the colied cable is a bit of a pain as it can put tension on the cord clamp at the speaker end - I wish they's make these things with a straight cord!
Other than that I'd strongly recommend this active holder. Works brilliantly with SatNav as well!
It does not work with a case on - it's designed to fit the phone, not the zillions of different case designs that you can get for the DHD.
That is one big ass connector, i bought this one
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003SE6LD0/ref=ox_ya_os_product
so good so far.
I ordered one from that company. They did not advise me that they were out of stock untill they had my money.
I am still waiting six weeks later. I will not be using them again and would reccomend others going to a more reliable vendor.
I just purchased one from the distributor listed on the manufacturers website.
Free shipping world wide and only $49.90 USD.

I've had the same problem with MobileFun; ordered a Desire HD case with kickstand - knowing it was out of stock for "1 to 2 weeks" - six weeks later, their website still states the same and no item. I cancelled the order and bought from Expansys with no delay and £5 cheaper too...

Good USB/AUX combo that works and is cheap

I saw the 45 dollar one google says and said no, is there a cheaper, good one? its been months! if not, can I break out the solder and make one myself? where can I buy the realtek chips?
If you need anything from Google (the shipping will probably be as much as the cable otherwise), try one of the $5 there. Even if it doesn't work at all (and from what I've seen, 3rd party accessories like that work as well as the factory ones) you only lose a few bucks, and have a C connector, an earphone jack and cable (and whatever may or may not be inside them). (Or there are a load of them on eBay for under a buck if you're willing to wait a month for shipping - https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...15&_nkw=usb+c+earphone+adapter&rt=nc&LH_BIN=1 )
On second reading, the Pixel 2 only seems to implement digital audio, and most of the cheap devices assume analog audio, so probably not - you have to ask each vendor. The digital ones (with the DAC inside) seem to be cheaper than Google, but it's still a wait for China Post (https://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-C-Digi...936141?hash=item48a1f6914d:g:RucAAOSwL4BZsKvr ).
What Gido5731 fails to make clear yet again is that he is looking for an adapter that can charge via USB-C while outputting music.
Ahh. Cheaper? I think the only one available at the moment is the Moshi - $44.95 is the best (and only) price I've seen. I expect that we'll see some Chinese knockoffs in the future (at much reduced prices) - after all, the P2 is going to be current for at least 3 years, and a lot of people will keep them for another 2 or 3 years after that, so anyone making a dongle will have customers for a long time.

That sucks, I really am pretty sure I could do it cheaper by mutilating a 10 dollar one, but oh well...
You could probably add a DAC chip to a $6 one.
Then again ... I was looking for the chip itself (I bookmarked it, but I deleted that bookmark) and I found this one on Amazon for only $17.80. Not $10, but not $45 either. Pixel 2 and 2 XL are specifically listed. (Yeah, I know, it should work with any device with digital output to the C connector.)

Maybe this but cost 48... (woops i cant put because im a new user , the adapter dodocool Hi-Res Headphone Adapter Type-C USB-C to 3.5mm Audio Jack Adapter)
Sure that this adapter has better audio output than any that comes in a smartphone, obviously costs 48 dollars but it is to give a high jump in quality.

Couldnt I just solder a new USBC head onto that one and get the same thing?
I don't know - could you? Can you trace the cable out to the DAC to know what goes where? If you could, you probably can.

You can put a DAC but the problem is compatibility with pixel 2, because not all of them work in pixel 2
I got some more dongles, going to try to add a second usbc to one of them soon

Question USB-C to 3.5mm converter

Question: I just bought a converter, but neither the S22U nor S8+ recognizes it.
Granted, it said for xiaomi but I thought they're all the same.
Is this because of the latest USB-C 3.2 format? or am I missing something ?
It needs to have a built in DAC.

I bought mine from Walmart and it works just fine. It even works with microphones or headsets. It's Walmart's cheap "onn" brand. I bought three or four of them because I always lose them. As far as quality goes, they feel and sound as good as any other one does, and they're only like five bucks.
I'm pretty sure these kind of links are allowed. I haven't been on here in a while since Samsung has been BL locking all their US devices....

No it doesn't. If that was the case, the one that Samsung used to ship with its phones would be bigger.

To be honest. You would probably be better off just getting a new set of USB-C headphones. They cost from around $9 to $30 with the average around $15 or so. The amount of money you are going to spend on a USB-C to 3.5mm adaptor will be about the same as you would spend on a pair of USB-C headphones.
Use the one from Apple. It works fine and cheap.
I'm using the one from Google (bought at BestBuy for $13) and it works great!
I bought a cheap one and work just fine after the last USB-C audio update via Galaxy Store. My problem is that when I am using on a phone call the micro doesn't work! Any solution?

I stand corrected. Bad assumption on my part.
Is the same rule true for USB-C headphones, do the cheap ones work or do the headphones need to have a special (expensive) chip inside?
Do Xiaomi compatible cheap USB-C headphones (with microphone) work?

I'm not sure. It should, but the OP stated the one he had was Xiaomi and it didn't work with his S22U.
I do know the Apple USB-C to 3.5mm adapter works. My daughter has one. I tested it on my S22U, Tab S7, and her S22 and it worked with no problems. It cost $9.99 at Best Buy and around $8.27 at Amazon.
You don't need to worry if it includes a DAC since that is handled in the phone. If it wasn't the speakers and microphones wouldn't work.

I gave up on buying a converter/ adapter and already ordered earbuds. But I still want to have headphones around, and obviously they have to be USB-C.
So I was looking at some (USB-C) headphones today, some of them were quite cheap, some were labeled "Xiaomi compatible". Was wondering if they'd work with the S22U.
Do those (cheap) USB-C headphones work with the S22U or do they have a DAC problem as well?

I don't think it's a DAC problem. I think it's a wiring problem. Xiaomi may not be implementing the USB-C specification fully or properly. USB-C is a connector standard, not a protocol standard. Just because a device has a USB-C port doesn't mean it fully supports USB 3.x protocols. For example, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite has a USB-C port, but uses USB 2.0 standard.
As far as cheap USB-C headphones, as long as the manufacturer adheres to the proper USB-C pin-outs then they should work. I ordered these for my daughter's S22. They are the exact same headphones I use on my S22U and Tab S7.
Skull Candy and manufacturers also make USB-C headphones that are under $30.

DACs for these aren't expensive but the headphones will not work without one.
Output from the C port is in the digital not analog realm thus the need for a DAC.
It's easier to use the Buds+ or similar Samsung bt ear bud. Otherwise use the Samsung 3.5 mm audio dongle, it's $15.

Again. You are putting out bad information. The DAC is in the phone, not in the headphones. If there were no DAC in the phone, the speakers would not work.
