Hi,
I have a Tilt 8900 (w/o camera), with the latest AT&T ROM installed (w/o the customizations).
I successfully performed HARD SPL and verified this by entering bootloader.
I then downloaded the French radio fron the radio thread (this radio was reported to work well in my area) and successfully installed it (or so it seemed late last night).
The ZIP file I donwloaded from XDA included an RUU exe file and an NBH file (I think).
I extracted both files to my hard disk, ran the EXE file (its screens look awfully similar to the HARD SPL screens) and the installation went smoothly and quickly, including the final SR.
My Tilt returned to normal functioning (or so it seemed), ie various apps which I used - worked perfectly, and it also synched w/o any problems to my PC.
But then on the way to work I suddenly found that I had no sounds at all, in any app.
Following advice, I performed an HR from start-settings-clear temp, and this did not help (the Tilt still functioned well, though, and I could execute all apps).
I then performed a regular HR (by holding both soft key buttons and pressing the SR).
The HR went well, including screen alignment, date & time setup, etc. Then the phone showed the AT&T animation and the screen where the radio and ROM versions are shown, and then - WHAM- the screen went black!
I pressed the Power button, and the screen I received is filled with colored dots (as if it shows a 3d picture or something), and I obviously can't do anything further.
I repeated this procedure several times, nothins has changed.
I also took out the battery for about 1/2 an hour, no luck.
I'd appreciate any ideas.
Thank you.
What ROM and Radio are you using WM6 or WM 6.1?
If you have just flashed a 6.1 Radio and are not using a 6.1 ROM (or vice versa) you will have no sound.
Have a look at the Kaiser Radio link in my sig it will tell you the Radio Compatability with the OS.
Try flashing another radio, if you can't boot flash from the Bootloader Screen.
Thanks
Dave
If I read your post correctly, and you installed a new Radio ROM but did NOT install an OS ROM, then that is your problem.
The newer AT&T-based ROMs require a matching Radio in order for the sound and camera (n/a in your case) to work. If you want to keep your new Radio, you will need to change your OS ROM also.

Hi Dave,
I have WM6 with the latest AT&T ROM.
The radio I flashed is compatible with WM6 (it's the French radio), but it might not be compatible with the AT&T ROM.
Meanwhile I discovered that I CAN enter bootloader mode, so hopefully this is a recoverable situation.
I understand that I need to enter bootloader mode on the Tilt, enter AS on my desktop PC, in AS I need to remove the checkmark from connections-allow USB connections, connect the Tilt to the sync cable amd then run the RUU EXE file in order to try and reflash the previous radio. Is this correct?
Last, if this fails as well, would I be able to reflash the updated ROM (after entering bootloader mode)?
Anything else I need to do so that I don't totally brick my Tilt?
Thanks.

The times I've flashed through bootloader (and there have been a few!) I've never bothered disabling Activesync - just connect the phone to the USB and run KaiserRUU.exe. It takes a few extra seconds on the "Verifying Info on your device" screens, and then comes up blank in the "Current ROM" section, but I've never had anything fail to flash yet.
I was not aware of this

So this means that I need to revert to my original configuration (ie the updated AT&T ROM) and keep it that way?
I wanted to improve the radio reception, since inside my house I have virtually no reception. And I read several reports in our local PDA forum that this specific radio does improve things.
Also my GPS lost too many times the GPS signal (all of this did not happen with my HW6910).
Thank you.

If you want to use the other radio, you need to flash a non-AT&T ROM to your device. This is a very simple process, and there are many different ROMs to choose from.
What is the radio version that you want to use? This way I can suggest several upgrade options that will be compatible with it.
It seems that the french radio might be suitable
But basically, at the moment I prefer to stay with the standard AT&T ROMs, minus the customizations.
I read through the Kaiser radios thread. Several radios are non-optional since they are only for WM6.1. Other radios are older than the one that came with the newest AT&T ROM (can't remember the ROM version).
I do understand that the radio selection process is somewhat a trial and error process, but I'm concerned that I might have some serious problem while trying, and I don't really have that much time to play with this. And as it is, I still don't know that I'm out of the woods with my current problem.
I'm sorry, I totally missed the part about the colored dots showing up on your Tilt after the last HR. Are you still having this issue, or is the phone booting correctly and you just have no sound?
Same Problem
I have the same issue. After the flash I tried, I see colored dots once I tried RUU. After that when I reboot, I just see a blank screen. I see that AS is happening.
Before the flash it wasR 1.27.14.09. Now it is 1.27.12.11
How do I fix the colored dots issue?
everything OK now.....
I reflashed the original radio, as per the instructions here, and now the phone is fully functional again (emails, phone, WIFI, GPS....).
I must admit I was quite worried for several hours, and couldn't wait to return home.
Further, it turns out I've grown quite dependent upon my Tilt...
Last, the signal strength issues haven't gone away, obviously, and I've yet to find the proper radio.
Many thanks to all the helpful people here.
By the way, I'm still curious regarding the reason for the colored dots on the screen.
Until I reflashed the orgiinal radio,

Until I reflashed the orgiinal radio, all I had were the colored dots.
Following the initial french radio flash, and prior to the full HR, I did not have sound, bout the phone was fully functional.
After I performed the full HR (both soft keys + SR) - I received the colored dots screen, which rendered the phone unusable.
I have this same problem and can't get in bootloader mode!!
Any help!!

Just got my MDA Compact back from HTC and they put back the Rom from last May.
Funny thing is, I haven't been able to find any advantages to justify me upgrading to 1.13. For a start, rebooting the thing is quicker on 1.12.
Can anyone advise if I am missing something important by not upgrading to 1.13?
Thanks.
Maybe it feels quicker because it is a fresh installation. I doubt there are any speed differences during boot time because the changes since 1.06 are very minor and mostly ExtROM related.
Much quicker boot
I think as part of the "No Bluetooth device found" fix, they added some time to booting. Not sure, can anyone confirm?
Could that be the reason my bluesoleil did NOT found the bluetooth device on the VPA Compact 1.12 rom, and it did find it when i had installed the 1.13 t-mobile rom.
Problem is, all that t-mobile **** is not really helping me out. THe Vodafone PUSH-EMAIL service is not auto connecting etc.
Could I get that bluetooth fixed even when having installed 1.12 in some way?
Rom 1.13 comes with newer battery dll, camera & album. & indeed a BT-fix. Using it for 5 months now & still satisfied with this rom.
@Riel, you can skip all TMO related ext-rom stuff by hard-resetting your device & just before customization (the little pop-up after the message 'now tap the screen
to start using your device') starts you soft-reset again.
Then load the required Orange cabs from your previous rom & you should be fine.
Regards, M
The Hang-up which I experience, could that be a 1.12 problem (when PAN with another s100 with Bluesoleil, it hangs when we start a MP game if pushmanager is installed).
Maybe 1.13 will fix it?

1. Battery life. TERRIBLE. I think it might be the phone. Got two other batteries. One lasts about as long as the original one I had and the other last just a little longer. Have yet to try a 100% new battery yet. In about 5 hours off the chrager with maybe a phone call and a few texts, it will drop to about 70%. Any ideas?
2. My MMS does not work. I know its from when I switched it over to WinMo6 and all the "fields" are empty for the settings. Customer Care wouldn't help me so does anyone on here have the required information I need to put it?
3. My LAN does not work. Possibly another thing from doing the WinMo6 deal. When I go to the Comm Manager and click LAN, the little windows loading icon comes up and goes off with the LAN not turning on.
in regard to the MMS not working, run the cab i attached. after that i reccomend going into the MMS settings/servers and then selecting the T-Mobile MMS connection, go in there (you'll see server name and such) and go to the bottom and change "Connect Via" from T-Mobile MMS to T-Mobile Data. that works well for me. keep that cab handy for future use as well.

i charge mine everyday... that was the same with wm5, but i can get almost two days of some phone and lots of email if i have to (gets down to about 10%). i dont think ive seen any pocketpcs that can make it much past two days with normal use... but it should not drop quite that fast -> one thing to try is go down to the 2.19 radio and look around for the power saving cabs (for some network connections and memory card) that are also built in to the later roms. both together make a big difference. also put your screen brightness to the lower setting, thats what really sucks the power.
if you like the xda roms, try going to xda 5. or try any of the other popular roms, nothin's pandora, antc wiz 2.0, theloon's kitchen for a custom, boring 1622, any TNT rom, whiterat's WRCX, etc... keep trying em out
i advise you to flash to an official rom first to get rid of any corrupt registries.once you do that....flash your favorite rom and after flashing HARD RESET....i do this to be on the safe side....

you may want to do a search for "clean extended rom". when u flash back to an official rom, they generally have an extended rom...upgrading to a cooked rom usually doesn't upgrade the extended rom...has been known to sometimes cause battery drain issues.

hey we all learned it at some point
radio is the raw code that drives the "radio" in your Wizard. it tells it how to search for a signal, what to lock on to, how to switch between voice and data, all the code that is need for the basic phone part of the PDA to work.
the extended rom is usually used by carriers (att, tmo, etc...) to install their custom software for the branded device, i.e. wizard becomes mda or 8125. after first starting the phone, a file called autorun.exe starts loading extra programs that are added on to the base operating system. it also starts loading the CAB files from the extended ROM, 10MB worth in the case of the wizard. these are things like MyFaves, the connection settings for data on the TMO or ATT networks, the setup my email link, etc...
hope that helps...
Not to take away from anyone else's work, but I flashed the T-Mobile Boring ROM, and haven't had a hitch, once I got all the internet setting right. I also am running the 2.71 GSM, and I can honestly say my mda runs better now than it did when it was new. Battery life improved, too. I am also a noob, and tried a couple others before I flashed this one...this worked best for me, since I didn't want to do all the tweaking (yet ) that more advanced users on this board know to do automatically.

THANKS! Good to know the n00bs don't get flamed too bad here
Ok my IPL/SPL right now on my G3 device is 2.26. If I want the 3.08 can I go right to it or do I need to go down to the 1.05? To go from the XM6r3 to XM6r5 what do I need to do? Should I just be able to go straight to that? It already CID unlocked and stuff for the current version I am on. Just confused on how to go from what I have now to the new one.
Thanks in advance!
Please Help
Ughh. Just went to XM6r5 and I have the same exact problems.....
Battery life still terrible. When I was done reflashing I was at 97% and after going through the settings without one phone call or text its already at 87%
The WLAN is still not working. Go to the Comm. Manager, click on WLAN, the windows loading icon comes up like its going to turn on, the windows loading icon goes off and the WLAN never turns on.
MMS messaging still says "error syncronizing"
Still on the 2.26 ROM
BUMP. Battery went down 6% in 10 minutes.... Is there a way I can just get back to WM5?
Oops, double post.

akadonny,
so is this just a stripped down version of the ROM or do you have applications to it?
hey ecl. it's nearly identical to my last one (3.53). it has a slightly updated os (19214 up from 19213), has a few registry tweaks and i built in the ringtone fix that i left out of last rom.
i included new cabs in the download for you to install as you see fit. they're all cabs i install with UC. i use others too like igo8 and tomtom 7, but posting them would be warez.
akadonny,
thanks for the info. I'll give it a whirl this weekend. Leave feedback when I do.

The phone kept locking up on me for some reason.
I'm still not sure why it keeps having issues with freezing up. I'm going to poke around some more & remove my sdconfig.txt to make sure I'm starting totally clean.
I really only use a small set of apps, which is why I am somewhat stumped by this.
i'm not sure what would be causing lockups. i purposely held out on releasing this rom for a week so I could thoroughly test it. do you get lockups with no software or with just the cabs I provided? if you tell me what u use I can try testing it for ya.
also, what SPL are u running? i heard from some that using the spl that comes with the rom version helps in SOD and lockups. check my sig. it has a link to jockyw's hard spl's.
I have been having all kinds of problems with the ROM. When opening IE (for example), IE briefly starts but then I start getting hit with iexplorer.exe, shell32.dll, and other Windows error messages. Same thing with opening some items in the Settings menu. I've hard reset following the ROM install, and I've also reflashed the ROM. I'm running HardSPL-3.56 and Radio 1.58.25.17. I'm going to redownload the ROM and try again. I will also try another radio to see if the issue becomes resolved. I'll give a heads up.

No problem, akadonny. So far, I love the ROM. Apparently, for me at least, it appears that the issue may be related with the network settings. When I open IE, Phone, Connections, I get the errors.

So glad it's working for you. Wonder why that happened.
So I just ran through the entire process of jump spl, hard spl, flash, install (a lot of crap via UC) and customize. My co-worker's Tilt works perfectly. Albeit it's only been a few minutes now, but no issues going into Connections, no random lock ups or reboots. If you look at the last pick closely you'll notice this guys Tilt has been in his dogs mouth a few times and it still works great.
I'll let you know if he reports any issues.
idj, do you have problems with any other roms? I suppose you don't or you probably would have gotton your phone replaced. Could you possibly have a hardware problem that's causing your issues? Just so you know I'm on my 4th Tilt now. First - USB plug got bent, Second - Keyboard stopped responding, Third - wouldn't accept button combo's to get into bootloader or hard reset.
akadonny, I also get the windows errors when opening IE. Dunno what the problem is but hope they get fixed because I need a clean rom I'm also using 3.56 hard and the niki/neon radio..
Hey, akadonny. Could you try something for me? Flash to the niki/neon radio (1.58.25.17) and see if you have issues then? You're using the 1.65.20.29 radio and not having any problems. But from the sounds of it idj1975, xidium, and I are having problems and using the 1.58.25.17 radio. Again, I'm going to try that radio here in a few minutes and then I'll post back.
BTW, after the reset (I tried a soft reset before a hard one) the issues came back. . Trying the new radio now.

Whenever my battery drop down below 60%, it will display no signal at all, no service... And when click con Phone, Phone Setting, Sim Manager... It'll pop up: "The phone is not ready, wait 15 sec" => Then wait all day long with no result... (If I plug the charge, everything'll be fine)
I bought a new battery, and still not works...
And I don't know why, now, even the battery indicator gone mad... Always 0%, charging, when the phone running smoothly...
Sorry for my bad English.
How can I solve those problems now?
Hi,
are you sure you have radio 1.13?
So long,
MrFX
can you post some screenshots of Device Information and Phone Settings.? so that we can diagnose properly. . .
I don't know how to take a screenshot on my PDA, but I'll write it down...
Device Infomation:
ROM version: 3.06.00 WWE
ROM date: 25/12/09
Radio version: 1.13.00
Protocol version:1337.43
ExtROM version: <Nothing>
And Phone Setting:
Well, my network, I set to auto, not work, then I set to manual, but still can't solve...
Hi,
how the hell you've installed this rom with radio 1.13? If i tried this, there was a bad radio error...
Please try the radio 1.12 like described on cotullas site:
*You must have installed 1.12 or 3.00+ radio.

I've installed radio 1.13 first... Then install that ROM, and they're still work OK if battery is over 60%...
How do I down grade to 1.12? The 1.12 installer always said that the cable is disconnect...

Well, I did downgrade to 1.12...
Still the same...
Hi,
is it an old or a new battery?
I had also some problems with my older bat, it shows always a good status, but i was not able (with full bat) to flash any new ROM to the Magician, and sometimes the Phone was going down.
After i replaced the battery with a new one, the Magician works very well.
So long,
MrFX
Sorry, both the old one and the new one brought no good result...
Hi,
do you have the same problem with WM 2003 (now)?

Ah yes... I think that's hardware problem
And another problem is:
Now my O2 will not sound anything out when receive a message or a phone call if PDA is off (it still vibrate though). If it's on, it sounds normally...
I don't know what the heck is going on... Everythings works fine before I flash the WM6.5 in... Even now I flash back to WM2003... It still screwed up...
are you sure you have downgraded to 1.12 wm2003se.?
if you still have that same problem, try to change network provider or change SIM, maybe you have a network bandwidth problem.
check the antenna pads if it's tightly intact, if there still no luck, you better find a technician.
ohh i forgot, the last time you upgraded your device did you use and run this file.? MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe if yes, then you should not be having problems with your network cause that file helps fix country id error.
Yes I did...
I tried another SIM from a different Provider, but no hope.
I cleaned the antenna, still the same.
Try a different battery. Nothing happen (still below 60% and no services).
Now, if some one call me or SMS, it has no sound at all, unless the PDA is turned on (that means the screen still show Windows menu, not black).
The Cotulla's WM6.5, the virtual keyboard: Sometimes the Delete or the Backspace key doesn't work at all, and I have to reboot.
If I press a hard button, it will show a message box said the short cut is invalid.
If I flash WM2003, then, I can't turn off the device by the side button. I must set it auto turn off after 1 min.
My country have no such technician for me to ask. Just a bunch of liars... ^^
May be it's too old, and I have to buy a new one.

before you buy a new one, do first an experiment so that we can corner the problem, you must downgrade to the original rom, just ignore the turn off button, i think it can be tweak in the registry.
follow this steps, this is my way of downgrading.
1.) download this rom http://files.pdamobiz.com/ROMs/XDA/Magician/MA_O2Asia_11200_920_11200_Ship.exe
2.) extract those files in a folder. (any folder name you like, use winrar.)
3.) run the file ROMUpgradeUt.exe
4.) download and save this file inside the folder where you extracted the files in step 1. http://files.pdamobiz.com/ROMs/XDA/Magician/MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe after you downloaded it, run it.
5.) follow the onscreen instruction until your done flashing.
observe your device if it still have the same problem.
I did try as you suggest...
The same problem... Nothing changed... And even still no sound when the PDA is "sleeping"...
I don't know what to do with this "thing" now...

maybe you have a hardware problem. let them check by a technician. cotulla's rom works fine on my device. no problem encountered so far.
I've been using albinoman887's ROMs for quite a while, moving from 10.1 to 10.2 and finally CM11. Never had an issues. In November I changed to sultanxda's current 4.4.2 ROM and have updated it ever since. Roughly since the late December 2013 updates (I cant recall excactly as I didn't use this phone over this period and my 2,4h Ghz Wlan failed), the Wi-Fi fails to turn on. I have read countless threads, here and elsewhere, and I am sure that this question has been asked many times - yet, despite hours of research I haven't been able to locate the reason.
S-OFF
Hboot 1.27 with juopunutbear's method
currently using
3.0.101-Sultan-kernel-ION-r57
Baseband version 11.76C.3504.00P-11.29A.3504.18M
Bootloader Locked
I have tried
- flashing several different ROMs, from Sense-based to RUU, older albinoman887 and sultanxda's, with and withouth GAPPS and different kernels
- WiFix Manager
- Tried to flash a new radio
I am not entirely sure whether the last bit worked; I followed to guidelines in this thread. The first option didn't work as it said "Remote not allowed" (is that due to my locked bootloader?). The second one with the sd-card showed no errors (actually showed "success"), however the Radio in the fastboot remains unchanged at RADIO-11.29A.3504.18_M (I tried to flash Radio 11.76C.3504.00P_11.29A.3504.18_M)
I have followed the guidelines precisely, although I am pretty sure I do not understand exactly what's happening behind certain commands (and hope not having to do so for getting further with this issue).
I am using teamwin recovery.
I have suspected that perhaps there is a mismatch somewhere along the lines of my radio. GetRIL has reported that RIL/baseband doesn't match, but I am not sure whether I understand what that means.
RIL 4.0.0013HMQ
Baseband 11.76C.3504.00P-11.29.A350
Is it a problem that the baseband in CM11 and GetRIL is shown as 11.76, while in fastboot the Radio is as 11.29 - or are these different things?
Bluetooth is btw working just fine, so is everything else. At one point in time, after wildly flashing several roms I got to the point where it rebooted constantly, however, this seems to be (as far as I can tell) gone.
3G and everything else seems to be working.
RIL/Baseband is meanwhile matching, yet to no avail regarding the WI-FI; it keeps "turning WiFi on..."
I currently have:
RIL 4.0.0024HMQ
Baseand 11.72.3504.00P-11.23.3504 ;
flash 3.33 universal from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
follow the instructions to the letter
and before flashing check md5 sums(important)
Dear filosofem
thanks for the quick reply. I followed the instructions, then went into my current ROM (one using 3.4.10-SebastianFM-1.0.3 Kernel) and the WI-Fi is still trying to turn on constantly.
Wiped cache and dalvik (and everything else excepct SD card) and installed the latest sultanxda ROM, in the following order:
1. Kernel Aroma Installer, 2. ROM (cm-11-20140217-Sultan-pyramid.zip); 3. mini-GAPPS - yet the problem persists.

try this my metaller mate
go to system->etc->wifi and delete the wpa_supplicant.conf. file
first back it up in your sdcard just in case
see how it goes
Unfortunately I forgot to mention in the first post that I have tried this method as well. I have also deleted the entire "wifi" folder where the supplicant file is stored (as suggested in one of many threads as a workaround)
Edit: Managed to get the supplicant file deleted again after the firmwire update to 3.33, yet again to no avail.
did you try to change WiFi region code ? you can change it by pressing settings button while in wifi, choose advance and change it over
Yes, I have tried that with the WiFix app, but also manually. Manually at least it doesn't stick to either Germany or Europe - although I am not sure whether this should really make a difference in not turning on at all. Isn't the main difference that the US merely uses additional channels that routers in Europe may not allow?
I cannot scan for networks since I don't even get there; the rest of the Advanced Wi-Fi settings will be saved, but not the region code (it states "specify the region code for Wi-Fi" every time I enter, no matter what I've selected before).
I have also ordered a new back cover, since afaik that houses the antenna, although I remain doubtful that this will work. Or does anyone think it could be worth a shot if its a hardware issue? Or would a hardware issue rather affect another part; i.e. a connector or a cable?

can I say I had the same exact problem updated to kitkat "4.4.2" and my wifi n Bluetooth was killed just like how u explained n i read all thread on google, one method i haven't tried is pulling the phone apart n clean it .......
Thanks to everybody for the many suggestions - It seems, at least for me, that the problem has clearly been hardware-related. So many hours flashing countless of ROMS and yet the solutions was probably somewhere in the antenna. Today I received a new cover and after a reboot WiFi returned as normal.
I would therefore advice everyone who is in the same position (and judging by the many forum posts, it is quite common) to first try a new cover. I ordered mine for 17€ from amazon (and had it not worked, I could have returned it).

Hey, i had the same problem as you and for some reason as soon as i remove the back cover my wifi problem was fixed. Mine fixed it self over time
But then withouth a back cover you would only have a small percent of both network and Wi-Fi coverage (if you were lucky to get any at all), wouldn't you?

No, you misunderstood me. What i did to fix it was basically remove the back cover which gave me signal instantaneously and then i placed my finger on the gold thing ( the one above the camera) and this boosted my signal to max and then i put my case back on and my wifi was fixed for about 30 mins. Each and every time the time limit increased and one day later my wifi stopped disconnecting.
