I have the HTC S720 (LIBRA, 5800, etc..)
Reading the specs, this phone is extremely close to the VOX, leaving me with a few questions
1) Would the kitchen for the VOX be compatible with the LIBRA? Is there anyway I can test?
2) My LIBRA rom doesn't have WIFI support. Since the phones seem to be similar (spec wise) - is there anyway I can attempt to add this support to test functionality?
3) Also, the processor is a Qualcomm MSM7500 - That means that this phone should have GPS (although not enabled in the rom..) Is that correct?
Any information would be very appreciated - I would like to get into the hobby of cooking and messing around with my rom, but not if it means I have a phone that functions as a paperweight.
Regards..
isnt libra a cdma device?

Can the WM6 core be extracted from others devices and ported to the Universal?
The reason I am asking is because an official WM6 ROM for the Universal does not exist. And the current WM6 Dev Release (Ivan's 6a) is still incomplete, i.e. - no video call.
What I have been made aware of is the official WM6 releases for the following devices:
<quote>
The following Provisional dates have been given.
Athena (X7500/Advantage) - From August
Excalibur (S620) - From August
Hermes (TyTN) - Currently available
Herald (P4350) - From August
</quote>
Probably the quicker thing to do is to extract the video-call binary from the Athena or Hermes.
And what do you think we are doing now?
I like the Touch software in my universal and therefore I have also try to cook my own ROM.
After seen my Universal and the HTC Touch of my wife sparking, I decided to upgrade my microwave before trying again.
God Bless You guys! I love this forum :0)

Don't know .... hence the question. It has been quite a while since Ivan's 6a was made available. I just though it was a bit premature to class 6a as a final WM6 release since it still did not have a core 3G feature. The Universal does not have 3G data protocols and the lack of video calling technically means that the Universal fails to qualify as a 3G phone.
You are better off using GSM for voice calls as opposed to using UTMS since you save power.
3G data speeds are there so it does qualify, and the video call drivers are device specific.

Awe mann .... I am in no mood to debate EDGE as a 3G technology as opposed to 2.75G.
And since the video call drivers are device specific, well ...... I guess putting some effort into Minisip or WengoPhone (VoIP clients supporting videocalls) might actually be worthwhile.
Hi everybody,
I have been trying to catch up on the recent development in android porting.
Now, I am planning to get a new phone. Since my carrier does not sell the g1, I am wondering which would be the best working alterntive? Meaning which port would allow to use most/all feature of android?
I do need gps working now or in the near future to make this a viable alternative to me.
I have been looking at the ports of which I already know of, being the port to the vogue and to the diamond.
To my understanding (please correct me) the vogue lacks the gps hardware.
So the only device left is the diamond. Or are there any other phones which I have overseen, that sport gps, and a progressing/working port of android?
To sum it all up:
Which device gets the most attention by the dev community regarding the port of android to it?
Which one is at the moment the best working port (which device)?
Which phone poses to be the most promising device for a fully fledge port in the future?
I would be quite thankful, if anybody in the know, or even someone the porting community could give me some insight or even a proper roundup on my options here.
regards and thx for your help and insights in advance,
trial
Vogue has the GPS hardware, but AFAIK, GPS is far off for any Android port.
General Mobile is coming out with an alternative Android phone, it also has dual sim slots.

I'm waiting for this to come out and to see some reviews.
Check the Google Android developer page.
You can buy a developer version phone for $399
All you have to do is register as a developer which cost $25(I think).
Edit: Not really for porting to but you did mention you couldn't get a G1, so I'm assuming you're open to a native Android phone.
ok guys.
first of all, thx for your replies.
i am not really planning to get the real g1 (even the dev version), since i am not really satisfied with its hw.
i figured it'd be easier to get a used htc device off ebay, which would be capable of running android.
So, I'd be willing to wait - which device looks the most promising in running a full android port?
Is there any effort whatsoever on the gps for the vogue or any other device? Is it likely that it will work at all?
thx for your info again

Many HTC phones out there have those specs... but if you have the money I would go for the HD2.
You can also wait for Q2 of 2010, there will be lots of nice new phones coming out.
Go for Rhodium or Leo!

Why not?
Maybe you can explain your question a bit better?
Why buy a phone at beginning of year?
Wait till Q2 or Q3 for a new device i think its stupid with all the new and faster things that might work on 4G instead of 3G.
I'm looking for the overall best WinMo device that matches a fairly narrow set of criteria, namely:
* WinMo Pro/PPC with a touchscreen
* Full QWERTY hardware keyboard
* Bar/Blackberry style form factor (not a slider)
* Full 3G GSM/HSPA on the North American 850mhz band
The only phones I know of in the above category are:
+ Palm Treo Pro
+ I-Mate Ultimate 8502
+ HP Ipaq 910
The other one I'm aware of is the Samsung i780, but I don't believe that one has 850 mhz GSM/HSPA compatibility, so I've left it off.
Are there any others I'm missing? If not, which one provides the best overall user experience in terms of usability, stability, performance, general quality etc. The pure technical specs on all of them are reasonably close, so I'm interested in hearing anything that differentiates them on enjoyment/reliability etc, or even just any positive/negative experiences anyone's had with any one of them.
Any and all tips, recommendations and advice are freely welcomed and appreciated, thanks!
Have you seen the HTC Snap?

EDIT: D'oh, it has no touchscreen, right?
Well, I'd say wait for the HTC Trophy: http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/06/htcs-2010-roadmap-goes-on-display/
Samsung epix? Though I heard its buggy...

Yah, WinMo Standard edition rather than Professional. Actually the touchscreen isn't so important in itself as much as having PocketPC version of WM for software. PPC apps aren't compatible with WM Standard are they? Different OS'es with no cross-compatibility? I have a whole bunch of software from previous PPC devices that I want to be able to install, and Smartphone/Standard apps aren't as plentiful, unless I'm completely misunderstanding the difference between the two platforms.. (which is possible)..
Same OS, just one has touchscreen support, the other doesn't. Most apps still work, although some may be hard to use or have no way to control them. One plus size is that wm standard is usually faster
Hello,
Pardon my newbiness, as I am totally new to Android and phones flashing. I found out about it as it published on a blog about flashing the HTC Vogue to Android.
I am interested in getting a GSM phone that you can flash to to Android OS like the Vogue, unfortunately I cannot use the Vogue as my carrier is GSM only. So can you suggest a GSM phone that can be flashed to Android? Also, it has to be reasonably priced (~200-300), I do not mind used phone either. Do not really have the cash to blow on a new Android phone, +$500.
Thanks
Welcome to forums
Rhodium can run Android.
thanks orb3000, any other GSM phones preferably with almost all its features usable with Android?
Looking at Rhodium Android port thread, seems like these features are not yet operateable with Android:
* BT
* Sound (in call mic and earpiece work, no ringtones or music)
* GPS
* Camera
BT is important for me since its a law in my town to use hands free while driving and was looking forward to a GPS and Camera features in a phone.
Thanks
am I asking for too much?
As far as I know, only the Vogue and Kaiser can run Android from the internal NAND memory. The Kaiser is a GSM only device, with many variants that will work on your network. I used my Kaiser for two years and it was an excellent device, with a decent hardware keyboard. It actually runs Android quite well, and from what I hear, the developers are working to get Android 2.x running on it. Take a look around the Kaiser Android Development subforum and get acquainted with what works and the status of the various ROM projects.
