PLEASE CAN ANYONE TELL ME if there is anyway to recover these data from my mobile !!!! Any place where these deleted items could be retrieved from ?Any recovery tool that i could use ???
PS: I have not performed any soft or hard reset of my mobile yet...
Thanks in advance for your help...
Look on your PC in deleted items in Outlook. This happened to me as well and I was able to restore everything. Also check your activesync settings to make sure they don't overide the PDA contacts.
thanks for the fast reply, how did you restore it? did you have to do it one by one?
thanks in advance...
Just select ALL then drag and drop in the contact folder
hopefully
hopefully you have also an answer to my problem:
i tried to synch the data of "my documents" (htc x7500) with my pc.
unfortunately after this procedure half of the mobile files have disappeared.
is there any chance to recover these lost files?
thank you very much in advance!!!
People People People. Seriously READ the screens when setting stuff up. The time it takes to do that will save you headaches later. If you have stuff on your PDA and then Set up to Sync from your PC; the PC files take Precedence and will "Clear" the PDA files that are not on the PC. Now if you read, your ActiveSync should allow you to "Keep Files ON PDA" or something. Thusly, it wont delete files that are on the PDA but not the PC.

I made this mistake and almost had a complete disaster. All my life's contacts, tasks (I'm big with tasks), appointments. I nearly died. It's cause I was moving to new computer, it wouldn't accept the blimmin' outlook.pst I'd backed up (thanks microsoft), and I didn't see that option in WMDC to replace items on desktop, not phone. So when setting up new partnership with new computer, it wiped my entire phone's data! I experienced genuine dread. That setting is actually a little hard to find and notice.
Miraculously the data was still in deleted items on my friend's computer's unused outlook that I was using beforehand! I recovered most items that way...(onto phone then from there to new laptop). Struth! (just cause I said blimmin' before without noticing it)

thank you for your answer!
i was always very careful about this feature and put this setting to "replace element on desktop" (so i felt safe and backupped my PDA to the PC).
but even so, it went wrong when synching "files".
now they are deleted on the PDA.
my question: is there any possibility of restoring these deleted files on my HTC x7500?
thank you VERY much in advance!!!
2nd attempt
hopefully any of you pda-experts will answer me, if there is still hope for my files, or are they absolutely lost?

Can someone please put me out of my misery, whenever I have hard reset my device, sometimes deliberately, sometimes not, then resync I can't use the same device name. As I always end up renaming it the first expletive that comes to mind I'm running out of names  My aim is to use sprite backup to maintain an image of the device on my pc so when the inevitable happens I can just restore everything, apps and all. Am I being unrealistic there? Thanks for your patience, I've been through the search options but no luck.

In active sync go to file, mobile device (these are the device names setup under active sync) choose which device name you want to delete then click on file \ delete partnership. Do this for each device name you would like to delete (it will also ask if you would like to delete the file folder it created for that device, your choice)
Use an SD
Hi!
I used to have your same problem, there is a easy work around: use Sprite back on SD card instead that on PC (or on SD card before than on PC) and you would never have to change name again!
Hope this helps.
Chris
Excellent! Thanks to both of you! Iggy, has that man ever made a crap record? No.
Can anyone give me some clear logical steps to prevent Activesync from deleting my files after a restore.
The desktop has my latest files - photos etc. The backup has older ones. So then I do a restore (from Sprite on an SD card) and assume that the files now on the unit will be overwritten with the latest ones from the desktop at the next activesync.
It even asks me if I want to overwrite the files on the unit or merge them, and I choose overwriting.
So how do I always end up with virtually no files on either the desktop or my unit. (I still have most of them in the various Sprite restore files, and for piccies this is OK but my various excel files will have moved on and I have lost data if I keep having to go back to these older ones).
I think it's something to do with hard resets and new partnerships ..... but my head's getting tired thinking it through
Thanks
Mike
in activesync on the pc have settings to deside if the pc should be like the pda or the otherway around
dear all!!!
really it's so hard to restore many pimbackup.pib files on a device...
i have been searching for an extracor, or kind of emulator that alow me to view the backuped file on my pc...
thankyou
best regards...
moiisse
If I remember correctly, you can rename the .PIB file as a .ZIP and then look at it with your "favourite archive tool".... Within the ZIP/PIB file there are loads of CSV format files for each of the messages/contacts/phone logs etc.
The only problem may/might/will be if you did the PIM backup in binary format; your best bet would be to post on the PIMbackup thread (here) and see if Dotfred or anyone else can help
Cheers,
Mark.
Dear Mark
I have tried this trick but the files I got were not .CSV one some other extension files. I am afraid if I am doing anything wrong.
The extension is not .CSV, but they are in CSV format. If you rename them to .CSV and open them with Microsoft Excel or Openoffice Calc (or whatever), they can be imported as semicolon delimited files (so strictly speaking, they're SSV - "Semicolon Separated Values" rather than CSV )
Hope that helps,
Mark.
That was a great tip!
Any idea how to import these into an Android Phone - just got an HTC Hero today. Took a backup of my existing contacts, sms etc from WM6.5 (HTC Touch HD) and could see the .pib (renamed as .zip) and individual files (which I renamed as .csv)..
Guess there might be a simple trick to restore them as well in HTC Hero?
I think I may have found something........

I was about to say I have no idea and I don't really care (about Android phones that is, not your problem getting your messages onto your Hero!), but then.......
I found this - Sprite Software's FREE (at the moment) migration software - which looks like the answer to your prayers
I've seen a report from someone who used it - apparently, it's pretty slow, but as it's a "one-time" transfer operation.....who cares how long "free" takes!!!???
Let us know how you get on - and post something in the Android-related forums so that other users can benefit.....
Cheers,
Mark.
(At times like this, I wish I had a Paypal "donate" button.....this gem of wisdom is surely worth a buck/quid/euro or two ....Ho hum!!!)
Excellent! That seems to be promising!
Just tried using that and tried to restore only the sms on my android, however it gave an error. Have emailed sprite software the relevant log file, lets see if they come up with the reason of failure. Guess it might have something to do with the threaded view on my win mob 6.5
PS : Paypal donate button shudn't be that difficult to get
And yes just thought that I would mention about the contacts - its actually very easy - just get them into csv file using the trick that you mentioned above and then import the csv file in gmail contacts! that's it! gmail automatically syncs the contacts thereafter!

Hi Mark (Am I Noob to Android)
It seems like, you have solved the issue here. I did have one question for you:
What if you allready had a PIM back of your old phone. Then the phone you have sold it. But you still the the PIM backup file on your SD card. Can you still go on to follow and start from 2 step and then step 3.
Or is the another way of doing this then?
Many Thanks.
yes u should be able too as long as the PIM file is on your SD card. you can just directly transfer it onto your PC, then rename it to a ZIP file and proceed as instructed above.

that is what I got also, I tried importing data to excel (with / without renaming to csv or ssv) but the text was not understandable in any language so I did not even proceed in selecting the separator and actually import the data.

Come on guys read a little more on the web, if you would have done so you would have figured out you have the binary backup files, not the text file, so what you need to do is convert. Now if you press the search button for the forum you would have found this interesting link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424641
the title says: 'Convert PIM Backup binary file to text without using windows mobile device'
(considering yours broke like mine)
You can read there that you can convert it to a text file using an emulator on your pc and subsequentlyfollow the steps that were described here...
First of all what makes you think that none has bothered to use search button or at least Google the issue?
Second and last ok you have proved us stupid.
Anyway thanks for the link even though a late reply cause personally I have solved my issues.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA app.
Firstly apologies for the noob question, I'm still very new to this WinMo stuff. And secondly I've searched about the forum all day but still having problems....
I've just got an HD2 and wanting to put some of the tweaks on it I've found via this site. When downloaded on my PC I'm faced with 4 or so files, two or three perhaps starting with a 'cab' file name and the other a reg or set up file. Basically what do I then do with these files? With the phone conected via USB I went into the deice memory and dropped all the files into the memory, did a soft reset, but nothing happened, no extra feature etc. Phone just started up as normal. Sorry for my 'thickness' lol. Would welcome any advice or a pointer to somewhere where it may be already written.
Thanks.
Do not unzip the .cab place on phone and browse phone with File Explorer, click on the .cab and install to Device....
It's a common noob mistake as .cab's are compressed archives so look like .zips on computer....
Thanks for the quick reply, I'll give that a go....
after dropping them on the device you have to run them. Open File Explorer and just launch them from there. A setup will be launched usually.
Thanks for the above advice, worked a treat.
Well I've had no problem putting cab files onto my HD2, however now I want to remove a few of them. Not sure how to remove the actual thing that I've changed??? I go into the device memory and I can delete the cab itself but the 'change' still remains, such as new task bar icons etc.
Any help appreciated....
settings -> add remove programs
just like on a computer
Oh yes of course, makes sense now. Many thanks
I accidentally erased a name of a file using total commander and can't undo myself.
My files show:
//Plugins
Application Data
ConnMgr
Content
Documents and Settings
Music
My Documents
Programs
Storage Card
Temp
Windows
and "wrong name because I deleted it" (in the folder is Manilla_20100401....)
Can someone please let me know what that file name should be? Most of my programs won't fully launch now because of it.
Thank you for your help.
Michael
Just hard reset your phone. That's always an easy fix that's sure to work
I just had this phone replaced due to warranty and had finished reinstalling lots of items but stupidly hadn't made a backup. I was in fact only opening total commander to make certain it was working when I accidentally deleted the file name. I would hate to hard reset when it is just a single file name that needs replaced .... I hope.
Do you have SK Tools? If so, this is a piece of cake. Open the database tool and export Replstor as an .xml. Open it with notepad on your PC and find the name of the file or folder (and its contents) in the list. There could be a few thousand entries, so it may take a while.
Farmer Ted--I don't find any of my file names from my device in this document. Thank you for the suggestion but I am still at a loss for the original names of the folders under My Device.
If only I knew someone with an HTC Fuze, I could just look on their panel under My Device. Unfortunately, most of my folk are Iphone zealots. Their advice usually involves a different purchase!
Michael
Well, I realized after I posted that if you somehow deleted one of the databases, then it won't show up in replstor, because they're all excluded from replstor. Most of them can't be deleted, though. You should have mxip_initdb.vol, mxip_lang.vol, mxip_notify.vol, mxip_swmgmt.vol and mxip_system.vol. If you're missing one of them, then look in the\windows folder and find the rom version and copy it to the root of the device. It may not have everything it needs in it, though. Just post up if you're missing one, and I can probably tell you how to fix it (well, maybe, lol).
Thanks FarmerTed, I'll give it a go as soon as I understand what it means! Just to clarify, I didn't delete any files. I renamed it. Not on purpose. These are just the basic files under My Device.
I've renamed stuff before, too. The best thing to do if you catch yourself is to delete the entire name, then highlight another file. The messed up file will go back to the original name.
shoot. doesn't work. It would have if I would've done that in the first place though, so that is good to know.
