What I think should be in this thread:
ideas for already existing software to improve
ideas for completely new software
tutorials which are not in the wiki and are not general enough for the wiki
tutorials relating to software development in any form
tutorials helping newcomers to have a simpler entry to the vox
Presentation of own software
Thread links of threads which somehow already deal with one of the above points
Everything important i will add to the WiKi page. Please contribute there too.
=> Read the WiKi
Please no trash and similar posting. If you have problems with software or anything else, open a new thread. Help keeping this one clean so it is easier to get what it is thought for.
For all who wonder "what does he mean???" i will do the start:
PLUGIN-REQUEST:
Description:
I would like to have a plugin for the wm6.1 rom from dr. gonzo which adds a slide on the home screen with the tasks as there already is for the calendar.
::: unfocused slide :::
there should be a tiny icon (as it is for all slides) and the info how many tasks there are NOT completed
::: focused slide :::
On the first slide there would be the tasks icon and the info how many tasks are there (uncompleted) and how many tasks are somehow dated for today.
Every task with the priority "high" should have an own slide (viewable by clicking on to the right)
And the last slide should always have the ability to add a new task (as for the calendar)
Details:
for which rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376564
If you miss some infos or want to help, develop, get informed or whatever just right me a PM. Also if you have any ideas how to make an own plugin.

why dont you create a page in wiki about this.
that way it will be easily accessible & no thread hunting.

We need smiles in SMS, there is no such program for smartphone like this one that is for PPC:

I will create a wiki-site the next days for all i have found about developing software for vox. programs to use, links and so on. pls be patient and if you do not find an answer on these pages feel free to ask me about.
Hey guys, the site is on !!

If you see good threads, tutorials or articles or similar, feel free to post them on the site.
i would like to have a program that has a dedicated delivery report folder. ive tried xtreme text and flexmail but they dont do whati need. just tired of recieving delivery reports in my inbox. wat a folder that i can go to and see if last sms is still pending or delivered
that is not possible.
the delivery report will always go to the inbox.
If you want otherwise you will have to write a program to intercept all incoming msg's and then redirect if they are delivery reports.
But isn't tht too much of a overhead.
I always keep the delivery report switched off. To see if a msg has been delivered, just go to the sent items folder. If its not there then its not delivered.
or you can use SMSBubbles to delete them rigt on your homescreen
Anybody can write a program like teamstat of PPC?It update football result all the world.
http://mbovin.com/
Thanks!
I ve used a programme in symbian s60 os 9.2 phones called skyequikey (www.skyestream.com). It is an amazing piece of application which does the following.
1) Once it is run it stays in the background and consumes about 1mb of RAM.
2) On a keypress it becomes active and brings on the screen any contact, application, games, saved mail ids, saved bookmarks etc,, diretly on screen from where it can be opened easily without going deep into the menu.
3) And the most beautiful part of the application is that the search is based on T9 principal.
The windows mobile is supporting this for only contacts. I would like to request you all to please see if this kind of software can be developed.
I have not seen any application for windows mobile that does what you just described. Sounds nice though.
SmartToolkit has a option to search programs by name but it is not based on T9.
prajith & matrix77
Thanks for your response.
The programme is really intersting. In fact it makes all shortcuts on today screen unneccessary and helps to keepp the today screen clean.I expect somebody to think in this line for developing a similar software in windows.

Hi,
I am quite new to Win Mobile Smartphones, but however I managed to get to a certain point where I started to build my application collection. Unfortunately there are a lot of questions of mine, to which I am not able to find answers, and since this is the biggest community of that kind, which i was able to find (not very easy) i think that it is proper to ask you for your kind assistance , I hope that i would not annoy you. I would try to organize my questions and request as neat as possible. I guess that they would be useful for all HTC Tornado Noobies
1. Please link me to the best Office Suit for the Tornado.
2. I may find quite useful the full version of SK Tools - currently i use a version of the software meant for Pockect PC, it is working, but it actually lacks the feature which arranges the menu in list not a grind ...
3. Skype - I use Fring, but there are too many bugs, unfortunately i did not find a straight forward instruction on how to install skype. I think that IM+ for Skype would do the job, but it is paid .... I need skype for chat only no VoIP intentions.
4. I use Opera Mobile, but if you have came across any better browsing solution - please share it
5. How could i remove anything except the clock, the date and the recently used programs from the home screen, the appointments, messages etc. are quite useless for me.
6. Could i use 4GB SanDisk with the Qtek 8310, and if so would i face any problems.
7.Please share any build quality issues and opinions, which you have experienced, I guess that the weak spots are the Joystics and the screen (it seems so weak to scratches). I am also get quite annoyed by the dust under the screen so please tell would it appear.
Many thanks for the help in advanace!

I am using a 4GB on my tornado and some people on this forum are also using 4GB. But it should be normal miniSD (non-HCSD).
Hey guys,
Looking for a registry editing guide that explains a little more on the Windows Mobile registry.
Bought a Ubiqio 503G on the internet. The phone has great features but sucks as far as:
-In-call speaker volume
-MP3 ringtone volume
-Weak vibrate
Ubiquio does not support this device and eXpansys has very poor support, and a crappy tech. team.
I believe the guys on this forum have more knowledge than eXpansys.
Let me know if you have any suggestions.
Much appreciated.
like with pc windows registry
every program can create registries
having whatever function for the program
as the programmer sees fit
so other then how to alter registrys there really is no general guide to
the registry
There's no dedicated guide on all registry entries, like Rudegar said, but better read this before starting to play around with registry:
http://www.wmexperts.com/articles/howto/how_to_edit_the_registry.html
Just dump your registry as a .txt file, put it on your pc (try ceregeditor) and do keyword searches until you find what you need. Play around a little with the applicable values (if found), but save the original file in case you mess up.
nice post WG very informative for users who havent tinkered with the reg before. I also like to use a desktop reg editor (whilst active synced) called CeRegEditor as well as a PPC one (PHM, Task Manager v3.1 etc), best of both worlds
Agree the best regieditor on desktop for WM is CeRegEditor, and the combining of FDC's TaskMgr.exe + Total Commander make us never need a standalone reg editing tool on device.
Plus for a real tweak addict better purchase the SKTracker, another 'tweaker's dream'.
I'm planning to repost the whole content on nir36's guide thread, a lot of code-adding work to do tho.
Edit: Done. Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=471521 This is a really useful thread for beginners.
Edit: I found this wonderful site really need some 'beginner-friendly' contents, or maybe need a seperate 'Beginner's Subforum'. Although it's already a heaven for developers, but beginners maybe less taken care of. I don't call beginners 'noobs' or 'idiots' because I'm a beginner too.

Agree. The developers know what they talking about, but the tens of thousands of mere mortals don't.
I have been reading for days and still don't know where to start to modify the Today screen, not to mention ROM.

Hello!
I have got the Xda Diamond (~HTC Diamond from o2 Germany) with Windows mobile 6.1
I´m studying at the Technological University of Berlin. To log on the local area network (eduroam) of the university, I need a VPN client. But there is no version working with WM6.1, I tried about three different clients (it always says, that ... is no win32-application)
For example that one (as recommended by the network administration of the TU Berlin):
http://www.tubit.tu-berlin.de/filea.../Windows_Mobile/SecureW2_EAP_Suite_112_CE.zip
Does anybody which client I should take?
Thank You for answering and greetings from Germany
Network storage application
I would like to have an application that could convert my micro-sd card into a network storage, being able to access this folder through my home lan. It would be similar to WM5torage but for WiFi (not usb).
Please note that I'm NOT asking for a way to access a network folder in my PDA (the usual reply I get). I already know how to do this with total commander. What I want is a way to create a shared folder inside Windos Mobile, that I can access from my computer through my home network.
TIA.
Visual Voicemail
I think that Visual Voicemail is a place where Windows Mobile is lacking compared to the iPhone.
It would function by receiving emails with mp3/wav attachments from online voicemail services such as Youmail. It would cypher the information from the email and provide information for that voicemail.
There is a discussion on the topic right now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=260
A developer has started toying with it but NEEDS help!
Thanks everyone!
Hi
Im using Imate Jam (Magician).
I want a software which turns my ppc into an answering machine i-e it can automatically reply/block sms and accept/reject/hang/answer calls based on predetermined rules. The software should also have the capablity of scheduling text messages and then sending them out smoothly.
Ill be extremely grateful if you help me out and provide such software.
If such software already exists please pardon me and tell me where to get it.
Mod Edit: Grab a copy of "Call Firewall + Sms Blocker" here
MOD EDIT 2: User is looking for something that supports wm 2003
i think my request would be somewhat easy to accomplish, but as im not so technically inclined (and somewhat too lazy to really try), ill ask here....
....what im looking for is a way to have area code matching on my Kaiser, or on Windows Mobile phones in general.....what i mean is like, when i receive or place a call, once the number is dialed, it shows the state corresponding to the area code i've dialed.....i know my old Samsung A920 did this, along with some other Samsung and Sanyo phones, and i think it would be great for WinMo....
Yet another think XDA's lack is a Myspace app. Maybe we can get something rolling like this facebook app that is being created???
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455263
Please back me up if you would like to see an app like this.
A "visual voicemail" app for diamond and other ppc phones that can record phone calls
as some of you may already know the diamond can record both sides of a conversation during a phone call using the notes application.
I read in another forum where someone was asking about visual voicemail and since sprint charges for forwarding calls there is no good option.
I was thinking maybe if there was a developer willing to give it a go to develop a "visual voicemail" application that would answer the phone after a user defined amount of rings,
Record the message while muting the phone's mic of course that way you don't get background noise from your own phone and then save it in mp3 or wav.
Then have it give you the phone number the time, date and the option to listen to the message either with a built-in player or with windows media.
To give you a visual of what i'm talking about if you've seen the visual voicemail app on the samsung instinct something like that but everything is done on the phone side.
Hopefully someone will agree that this would be a useful program and give it a shot.
Attention Required to upgrade my fone !!!
Hi All,
I juss found the update with HD elements in the forum which seems to have a good impact.
Let me start of with my problem. i'm using HTC Touch(might be ELF) and i keep visiting xda forums for new apps., for my fone. I installed Manila 2D earlier which made the fone very very very slow. I'm giving you my details of the fone below.
Rom Version : 2.20.720.2B WWE
Rom Date : 10/02/07
Radio Version : 03.07.90
Protocol Version : 4.1.13.51
ExtRom Version : 2.20.720.103
RAM Version : 128MB
Flash Size : 256MB
Storage Size : 144.23MB
Model No : ELF0100
My Fone is working on WM 6.0
Now what is require is i would like to have to install WM6.1 on my fone with the new Touch VIVA Interface. Is this possible ? if so please cud some one assist me how to install for the same. As earlier i written Manila 2D made the fone completely slower. So i would like to upgrade my ROM (what ever) as i not much aware of this installations or upgrades.
Please some one assist me with the same for the complete new look like TOUCH VIVA fone for my existing TOUCH.
I would pretty happy and thankful who can assist me for this entire process.
Regards,
Jags....

I need Voda V2 Dual Card configurations
Does anyone know where to find the configurations for the Voda V2 Dual Card Quad Band FM Cell Phone. It is suppose to be unlocked and I am a AT&T user but don't have the setup to use my phone.
Jeyo Mobile Companion alternative and HTC Phone pad Upgrade
Well my request wouldnt be new anymore but i still want to pursue it if ever a developer would make it,
a jeyo mobiler software like, that can manage your text messages from the pc, send, recieve and read text messages from the pc and lastly a decent back up process that could backup even if ur message is over 160 characters (1 message line) jeyo has a screw up on the back up process coz, it shortens a text message fixed to 160, so if your text message is 165, if jeyo is to back it up it will only store a 160 char message back up. you lost the data. I need to back up morethan 5000 messages and most of which are over 160 character.
another request would be a newer version for HTC phone pad input..
this input application ROCKS! its like using a cellphone keypad over your pocket pc. so texting wouldnt be so much of a problem if your walking or something. the modification i would like to ask is character deletion from 2 character to one and higher WM version compatibility, as I tried it before, phone pad had issues with WM6.1.
alarm sound on vibrate/silent?
in some ROM's there is an option under "more" in clock & alarms that allows you to enable the alarm sounding when on silent or vibrate. does anyone know of a CAB that you can install that will add this feature without downloading the whole ROM'?

Is there an application to delete a file && is there an application to run commands like dos batch??? my target is to make an installing cab that on the next startup start an application and then delete the file started or the link to the started application

Hey, I'm new to the forum and new to mobile development and hope to become a part of this thriving community. I have a few questions about development in regards to WM 6.1 and the Touch Diamond 2 (known as the Topaz here).
My first question is to do with the first application I deployed as a CAB to my phone today. It runs but when I try to enter information on a textbox the button to bring up the keyboard isn't there. I'm guessing there must be some coding involved to bring this up? Could anyone help me on this? If it's not coding, then what can be done to fix this?
Edit: Thought I should also mention that because it is a simple application (not Hello World) that I decided to code it in Visual Basic. I am using Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition and the 3.5 .NET Framework and the WM 6 SDK and some WM 6.1 resources (Emulator images)

You realise that I have already searched for this information? And also that the thread linked gives pretty much no information to new developers
Bumpity bump
I am also looking for developing some application for my diamond2...
Any pointer for start in these place?
I am reading msdn... but very lengthy.
A while back I found a link to a mediafire archive with something like 50 CAB's in it, for Windows Mobile 6.x. Does anyone know where that archive is?
It used to be bookmarked on my computer, but I accidently deleted it, so it's now gone.
I imagine that some of those CAB's are probably somewhere else on the interwebs as well, but I have been searching all day to no avail.
Also, FreewarePocketPC still has lot's of stuff available for WM devices, but a lot of it is intermixed with crap for Android(most of the Android **** that's clogging the site is just virus anyways), and Windows Phone 7, and some of the links are dead.
P.S. I have an archive of CAB's as well, I will be sharing soon, most of the CAB's I have are still available elsewhere on the interwebs, but with WM6.x getting older by the day, and so many things linkrotting as we type, it won't be long before the ever-diminishing set of workable programs reaches zero, and our beloved WinCE/WM6.x based devices are dead forever. So the more mirrored archives there are, the better.
NOTE: IF anyone wants an app, PM me, do not clog the forums with requests. NO, I do not have warez and paid software, I do not have any way to make your paid software work without paying, DO NOT ask for warez, if you do, your PM will be copied to this thread for everyone to see and laugh at.

1.) Opera Mini 5 - In download box below. Web browser for WM2003 all the way up to WM6.5.5, still works and because of Opera compression, it renders nicely even over 2G and modern websites are rendered nicely.
2.) UC Browser 7.04 - In download box below. Another web browser for WM5 up to WM6.5.5, still works, built by a Chinese company, not sure if it uses compression, like other browsers for WM, rendering quality is hit or miss depending on the site.
3.) Opera Mobile 10 BETA - In download box below. A newer version of Opera, for WM5 and above, still works, like with Mini 5, it uses Opera compression servers so it browses fast over 2G and modern websites are still nice. AFAIK it supports Flash.
4.) SkyFire - In download box below. Another nice browser. I am not sure if it still works, it uses SkyFire compression servers, supports flash. SkyFire as of 2013 was still available for Android, so it's possible the compression servers are still active. If the servers are not active, then since this AFAIK does not render locally, it's just here for historical completeness.
5.) ZetaKey 2010 - In download box below. This is a browser that is AFAIK still developed for WM6 and up. It supports HTML5 and AFAIK Flash, based on WebKit, so even without compression servers(which this does not use), it should render modern websites okay.
6.) Iris Browser 1.1.9 - In download box below. This browser still works. Uses WebKit, although it is not developed anymore, it does score a 100/100 on Acid3, has a pop-up blocker and supports NPAPI plugins just like Firefox.
7.) ZetaKey 2017 - In download box below. See ZetaKey 2010 entry. This is the newest version of that browser.
8.) TCPMP Finger Friendly. A great media player for WM devices. IMO it's even better than what comes on most Androids even in 2019.
Original link is still up: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=634951
Or you can download it from the box below.
1.) Flexilis Mobile Security - Link in download box below. This is a once-popular anti-virus program for WM6.x devices. It is AFAIK the precursor to what we now know as Lookout on Android devices. I am not sure if it has new virus definitions, but then again, is there anyone actually creating *new* viruses for WM6.x anyways?
2.) ESET Mobile Antivirus - Link in download box below. This is another popular anti-virus program for WM5 through 6.5.5, although the WM version is no longer developed nor is it still supported, ESET is still around and still makes some of the best anti-virus software for Linux, Windows, MacOS and Android.
3.) FingerKeyboard - Probably one of, if not the best alternative keyboards for WM6/6.5. It is way better than the stock keyboard(although the HTC keyboard is decent).
Download it from the box below, or the original link is still active here. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=487677
4.) Esmertec Jbed - This allows Java midlets to run on Windows Mobile devices.
Get it from the box below or go here(https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407667) because the original link is still active...
5.) Adobe Reader - View PDF files on Windows Mobile. Get it from the download box below.
Dude, don't you think you've been late with this thread for about 10 years?
I know maybe 3 or 4 old-fags here at xda (including me) who still have functional WM6.5 - WEH6.5.3 phones. And we are mostly "chiefs" - we cook our own roms and have all the necessary soft in our roms already.

I am just putting this out here mainly as a way a of preserving these programs for anyone who might care aboit them. Also, so if there might be anyone out there who still happens to have a device that can use these. So, sure, the thread is 10 years out of date, but thats exactly the point.
I'll take that bet...
Well I for one would love to see archives of old WM6.x CABs. I bought the HD2 In the first week it was out, and loved tweeking and fiddling with it until I had to factory reset it and remember where I stored the latest viable backup.
I must have crashes that thing a dozen times or more!
Well I never did get myself together enough to build a kitchen and learn to cook up some ROMs, but I had fun with all of the crazy and cool programs and apps. Cookie monster had an awesome UI Tweeker as I recall.
So yeah, I found the ol' Leo and charged it up! It's working!
I would love some links to CAB archives!
I recently bought some Windows Mobile devices just to play with, so I would also love an archive.
Finally somebody doing this. Thanks.
A bit late, but preservation is always good.
I tried finding games for WinMo, but every single link i came across was dead. (If somebody comments about piracy... WinMo has been discontinuted for, like, what? 10 years?)
If anyone still has any app installed on their WinMo phones, please make a backup and upload it.
I was a Symbian user when WinMo was still used, so i kinda missed on pretty much everything.
And you know what's the weird thing?
You can still find SYS files for Symbian all around the internet, but WinMo apps simply vanished.
So, yeah, if any of y'all have any app, just post it here.

I have a bunch on my HD2, I just dont know how to upload to here. Or anywhere else for that matter. I will look into a file share site. Any help would be appreciated.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ still operates with most links still working. In most cases it offers a primary link & a mirror link to download the Apps. On the rare occasion both links fail a web search on the App or developer name will usually yield a result. Only very rarely can I not find a WM6.5 CAB, registry hack, etc., that I want. I've been amazed how much is still out there. I've used the HD2 as my sole Phone/PDA for almost 10 years & by trial & error I've got it to be very stable (a screen freeze is now a rare & notable event). I recently added the new 400GB microSD which is so fast I can put most Apps onto SD that formally required Device Memory installation only. I can't speak too highly of this little device. And the screen is much more scratch resistant than my wife's Lumia 950! Cheers

When you tap the reply button and it opens up that new page where you write your text and stuff, scroll down until you see "Manage Attachments", tap on that and a new page will open, from which you could upload your files. :good:

I read that reply and I couldn't stop myself from adding the slight tone of distain at having to answer the obvious to someone as noobish as I. however, does said 10 post anti flake-o-noob rule apply? if not. Well, i need to go buy a shovel and dig holes for a living.

Rolled a 1 on search and found this. It had some good links. Not all function anymore.
Sites that still have some form of .cab files:
Freewarepocketpc.net
mpbus.net
mobile24.co
A good extractor for cabs and thier extension files would be nice.

Chill, it's no problem.
You could upload them to your Google Drive and turn on link sharing for the zip you made from the cabs. (And tap on "Everybody with a link: can view", not "Everybody with a link: can edit")
Then copy the link and post it here.
Also, thanks for those links. Really useful.
Having better achieve of cool apps and games still good for even the htc hd2 would be great for WinMobile 6.5
I attempted to reply with an outline of a project I am starting, and included the links to my dropbox file of HTC HD2 software, however it was auto flagged and i cant find the technical contact form as my browser is not allowing me to scroll through all the options in drop down menus and other pages.
sorry guys! I shall return when I can and try again.
Making a online archive with every possible cab categorized in smart way is one of my dreams since when I started discovering the world of technology and modding through this wonderful OS called Windows Mobile
The websites listed in this page allows you to search on old filesharing websites.
You can still find a lot of apps on
---Emule (servers +KAD especially)
---"windows mobile" and "pocketpc" sections on softonic.com (if I'm not wrong a con is that for each cab you want to download Softonic downloads a windows installer that then downloads the cab)
---install the webarchive extension on your browser and visit every old bookmark you saved in the past with the hope that the webpage was saved on the archive)
If I had the time I'll buy some webspace and I'll archive every WinMo app! XD (I would need less GBs than a single today's laptop hdd)

Well a lot has changed since 2018. I just went to freeware pocket PC and tried 10 different links and none of them worked and none of the developers still had a functioning website.

Actually, just dug out an old HTC Diamond2 that was once used by a relative, I was looking for software and this has actually been pretty helpful, I'm trying to figure out what these old PDA-ish devices still can do, I know that the few that can run Linux are actually pretty well supported to this day, but this one looks pretty much obscure so far, not a miracle, but I did want to play around with it
