[PRO] windows 6.1 professional for htc tornados is in development - HTC Tornado

guys i have some great news these two great windows mobile devs SGregory and kamikadze! are developing windows mobile 6.1 professional for our tornados am speechless omg!!!!!!!! (i know this from the windows mobile professional rom for the startrek thread Erofich confirm it) so lets wait and hope

Cool, but Professional is for PDA device, so we have to use virtual cursor? But this means we can use GPS software ^^

If it 's like the StarTrak one, then it 'll be awesome...i've got both devices and cant await...
most of my SmartphoneApps works well on Startrak Pro,the FakeCursor-Solution works well, the Pro-Os kicks my Phone into a NewWorld...
Only missing my Good 'ol Homescreen, have to familarifari with this new TodayOne...

Awesome!
Maybe I won't need to change my Tornado

Sounds great! I'd love to see it!

WOW!!!Its a great news!!!
GOOD LUCK TO THE DEVELOPERS!!!

Yes! Good luck to the cookers but I wont celebrate until I see the rom posted here

Very glad to hear about it, cannot wait to see the new ROM

Hi howya!?
Your expertise and service maybe needed here, again soon!!
Take care & enjoy life.

When will it release,i am looking forward to it...

I'm not really seeing why anyone wants Pro on a smartphone.
There is a reason Pro only comes on touchscreen devices - because it is completely impractical on a non-touchscreen device. For one thing, keyboard shortcuts do NOT work. I don't know about most people, but I am quite accustomed to accessing menu options using the number keys. With Pro, you're forced to use the dpad.
Many smartphone apps also do not work in Pro, or if they work, are not usable.
It's cool as a "proof of concept", but for usability, it sucks. Completely impractical. It's about as useful as a touchscreen phone with a broken touchscreen.

what about the treo 750 it comes with pro and ppl love it i've used it my self and i have no problems what so ever, the lack of touchscreen dosnt even bother me it works like charm

Treo 750 has a touchscreen.
No manufacturer would be crazy enough to put Pro on a non-touchscreen device. It could have been done as far back as WM2003.

Do you think there will be WM5 for the Magician?

So, what do you think?
(I hope this is not considered a rant)
We're actually just waiting on the Buzz/Raptor news. We'll all kno the answer soon enough I guess.
I agree, if the news is coming from Buzz, I have no doubt whether the ROM exists or not.
well if it's not going to come available, i'm not going to sit and cry about it. I'm still very happy with it as it is :-D
I love my Magician !

Me too.
What will change with wm2005? There are tons of wm2003 applications for our devices to keep us satisfied for long long time. I am not saying that I am not interested in getting a working rom for magician, but if this doesn't happen in the right way (official upgrade) we will have many problems and no support at all. So apart from satisfying our curiosity what is our gain?
I must admit that I am rather curious mind, so I'll probably be one of the first to try to put the wm2005 rom in my magician, but I am not expecting much and I am sure after some day coping with the problems I and many others would like to switch back to the good old wm2003.
Anyway I wish good luck to Buzz and all the other guys invloved in this "adventurous" project.
If there weren't any improvements Microsoft wouldn't have released it in the first place. It's a bit like asking what's the difference between Win98 and Win XP. Just when it came out everyone was like "Nah ... I'll stick to Win98" etc. When people start using it on a daily basis they wouldn't do without.
Having said that, I'm looking forward to:
1) Permament Storage
2) Better synchronisation with Outlook (inc. Contact Pictures)
3) Improved one-hand operation
4) Improved PIM
and the list goes on and on.
I sure can live with WM2003SE, but a stable WM5 is definitely my preferred option.

I am not talking about an official version but for a leaked one. The official of course should be better and have more benefits! That's undoubtable!
And if you are wondering for the difference about win98 and XP, try installing and living with XP on a Pentium 166. Simply you can't because p166 was not designed to be able to handle winXP.
I own a computer shop and people where asking for Windows 98 on a Pentium 4 - 1.4GHz with 256 or 512MB RAM!
Regarding WM5, agreed, I'm only talking about a stable version (whether it's official or not). Mind you, the WM5 we're all waiting for IS MEANT to run on the Magician as it was specifically built for it. Otherwise it wouldn't work in the first place.
And according to Microsoft, the Magician meets the WM5 minimum requirements, mainly being an Xscale compatible CPU, 64MB RAM and 64MB ROM.

Check out the O2 XDA Atom...
1. The O2 XDA Atom will have the same processor (or type) as the HTC Magician.
2. The O2 XDA Atom will have Windows Mobile 5.0 (along with other nice things like a long-awaited FM tuner)
3. HTC could have made a Windows Mobile 5.0 build for the Magician and given it some more life, but new devices is the main reason they didn't. More profit here.
4. You guys will be all over this like a free porn DVD giveaway, and get this ROM ported over to the Magician in total defiance of HTC's abandonment stance.
5. Some of you will buy it anyway.
UPDATE: The Atom is not designed by HTC, so chances of ROM portability to the Magician just got a lot slimmer.
That Atom looks very very nice. I would almost be tempted to bankrupt myself if it weren't for the fact that the price tag is, praise the Lord, far too high for me to even consider it.
'praise the Lord' :?:

which PDA phone should i buy?

I would recommend HTC HD
But first check here so you can make your own slection based on what you really need form a PDA:
http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdachooser
Cheers,
Assuming money isnt a problem.
You need to know what you wanna do with the PDA.
1. Do you need GPS?
2. Do you play games?
3. Fast internet?
4. Do alot of typing?
5. Powerful Processor?
6. music and/or video?
7. Advance configuration like changing roms, cooking and major software tweaking?
If all the above is yes. Raphael is the overall best.
Touch HD got no D-pad so gaming is a little tedious. It also does not have a keyboard but has a superbly large screen.
Processor need not be powerful and need not type alot? got for Asus. P750 if u have the budget P320 if not.
Are you intending to learn to cook roms and develop software. Try HTC G1 android.
They're all my opinions only. As Orb3000 wrote "But first check here so you can make your own slection based on what you really need form a PDA:

thank you guys! artemis is HTC p3300?? how about samsung omnia i900? is it good? i like the design and the specs ... i like the HTC HD but the price is so high ... 700 euros ... that's a lot of money that i will never spend on a PDA phone! I had the LG KS20 in may this year and i was very, very disappointed!

So far there has only been one good response to your question (Serphinox). You need to identify what YOU want the phone to do and be specific. All you will get is blatent favourtism with the way your question is worded.
Blatent favourtism...... (and my honest, very experienced opinion)
I have owned serveral HTC phones and regreted each one eventually. I now have an Omnia with the HJ5 firmware (a must!) and its absolutley awesome. It kicks some serious HTC booty. I've had a Blue Angel, TyTN, TyTN 2 and currently still own a Touch Diamond (Of all my HTC phones, I've had at least 2 of each due to hardware failures/poor manufacturing). Which phone do I use everyday? The Omnia.... no contest. The Omnia does have a lower res screen than HTC devices but actually, this is well thought out. It allows for a longer battery life, its VERY fast at updating (even my TD with Swiftblade 7.5 don't stand a chance) and .... because its low res, its VERY finger friendly like the Iphone. Put simply, it works. I now have zero issues with it, something I have NEVER been able to say about ANY HTC phone i've used. It simply does its job, everytime, 100% of the time with no fuss. Note though: Because of the screen res, don't buy it if you want to play games as they are generaly written in the standard screen formats of which this is not. Btw, dont use Samsung Widgets, they are for Joe Punter, you want Samsung Today 2... its the daddy!
Oh, who else has 32gig storage in there phone? Currently I have some 2500+ songs and iGO8 with all the world maps ..... and still loads of storage free
You know, i've also owned a Tosh G900 which was FAR from "tosh" and again an excellent phone. I only wish more people realised there was more to life than HTC.

edited my signature .. thank you for the great answer ! gonna get the omnia ... maybe dont know 4 sure but i believe it's a great deal. you say that the ress of the omnia screen is different from the other phones and i will not be able to play games ... now that's not GOOD
now i own a nokia e71 and i can change the ress of games and than install them into to my phone and they work ... is there a way that i could change the ress for the games that work on wm 6 devices??

its not that you WONT be able to play games, its just that you need games that are coded to work with odd screen sizes - and this can be limiting. I think its fair to say that most games written now are for 480*640 (640*480) and this is not the Omnias screen size. That said, the Omnia does seem to be selling very well so I would hope more developers start creating there apps to scale mathmaticaly rather than fixed for a specific size.
Should you wish to use SPB Shell, you are also limited to the amount of custom skins available however, this will grow .... you could even create your own!
As for your games, I would think you will be ok. They should be on your PC in your activesync program. Once you create a new sync between the pc and your new device, you can then go into activesync's add programs section and select to install. Of course, if you have the individual .CAB files (which are also actually on your pc as well) then you can just drag these on to your new device and install.
edit: I cannot stress enough though, you need to update to the HJ5 rom if you buy it. Details can be found at i900.modaco.com.
I vote for the Touch Pro.
In my opinion HTC devices I own or owned (Universal, Tytn and Touch) are great devices, never had problems with them, so that makes me stick to HTC because their experience manufacturing WM powered devices, also the great support and the main reason because of this wonderfull site!!.
If you decide for the Omnia you will not have the support form this site has for HTC devices (I´m sure exist another sites for Omnia)
So once again I´ll recommend an HTC device absolutly
Just my personal opinion
Good luck on your decision!

However, OP, you have not really said what your requirements are and you need to. Be specific and people can really recommend properly rather than our phones

as long as you upgrade to latest firmware (see i900.modaco.com) you won't regret it. I would recommend though you try and see if you can get an Omnia-T. As mentioned, same phone but has DVB-T and 800*480 screen - although this will decrease battery life a little.
Anyway, enjoy!

WM 6.5 - I feel like a n00b

Ok I just flashed my TP with Shep's latest ROM. With the new look and new system of WM 6.5,,, I really really feel like I'm a n00b.
I have been using PPC for 5 years now. I owned Toshiba Wm 2002 PPC at first, and then hp iPAQ. First time I flashed my PPC was back when I owned a himalaya. It was a nice device but it fell off my from my pocket and the LCD is broken. A friend o mine asked me to sold its Mobo to him.
I bought eTen M600. It is a helluva device. It excel every PPC I ever used. With its latest ROM I flashed, it become the most stable PPC ever exist. I still own this device. Too bad it can not be upgraded to WM 6. The manufacturer says that its chip is not compatible with WM 6. but I need to have a WM 6 ROM since I need push mail feature badly.
And then I bought HTC TP. Flashed it yesterday and there I was,,, wandering what should I do to customize my PPC. The honeycomb menu is confusing me since I can't gain access to classic folderview program list.
I am not going to whine, but surely I have to revolutionize my (classic, old school) mind in order to adapt this new OS.
How exactly would someone reply to a thread like this?
I just want to express my feeling
hahaha
I agree... the honeycomb is not too easy to work with... it would be great if you could drag and drop the buttons to the positions that you would like them at. I have to click "Move to Top" about 100 times to get it in the order that I wanted.......
If you dont like it you could try quickmenu (I think that is what is is called) it is an app floating around that replaces your menu... It was mentioned to me in another post of mine. Personally I really dont like the Titanium look but there are many skins around to customize it if you want to use it. I use PROven ROM 6.5 with rhodium. I like it alot. customizing it is up to you. you can install different apps and try them out...
Sorry for being long-winded... You have been around long enough to know most of this just thought I would shoot my 2 cents into the mix.
Thanks,
SoBBie

Which future for HTC Universal?

All is on the title...
No more ROM in the future
I agree with you, but.....
There doesn't seem to be anything to replace it. I've tried Kaiser, Magic and Diamond hardware, all of which suck in comparison.
So I've ended up back on the uni - the other phones are all heading to ebay.
Any suggestions as to how we liven up the uni a bit?

Yep, the Uni is unbeatable about the life, any vanilla ROM with one of the latest builds will be nice WM6.1/6.5
My way of keeping my Uni fun was SPB Mobile Shell 3.5, it is just like getting a new user interface, so doesn't matter so much what ROM it is running, even WM5. The only thing I needed was 128Mb RAM. However, I have to say that having 128/256 on my LG KS20 felt amazingly roomy, wish my Uni had that much space.

I agree completely. spb ms3.5 plus any lightweight stable rom will do the trick for 64MB uni pls take note however that spb ms is not for free (yu need a little resourcefulness though ).
of course, blessed are those with upgraded ram

There are still a few Chefs alive in Uni section!
So Uni will never die, even if there is no mre new ROM´s we reached WM6.5 on a device with WM5, so we are actual.
And I´m sure someone will find the way to port the new look of WP7 in the future!
I have tested several HTC devices and have to agree, none of them can be compared, even if they are faster...not even my Rhodium (which is a great device)
UNIVERSAL will never die!!
OK, so a bit of a rom refresh would cheer people up. I'll package up a 21068/21051 rom in the next few days. This build has been running on my Uni for a few months now so I know it's stable, there's just some loose ends to tidy up. It'll also finally ditch tcpmp 0.81 in favour of the latest 0.72recomp3 which now matches 0.81 for playback speed and doesn't have the annoying screen rotation bug.
If you still love your uni, and you've not had it upgraded to 128mb yet - go and find a way to get it upgraded! It gives the phone a new lease of life - snappier, more versatile and it seems to improve battery usage. (I suspect the battery improvement is due to reduced CPU-load and Flash-reads when pagepooling is disabled)
Note that you can run a 64mb device without pagepooling, but RAM tends to fill up quite quickly, resulting in apps refusing to load or acting all crashy. That said, there are ways to improve memory management (auto-hibernate for one) that might make it more of an option.
@Enigma - 256MB would rock - particularly for those who like to dabble with linux/android. It's just a shame nobody makes 128mb chips in the right packaging. :-(
Great to know something new will come!!, hope for 64Mb too
Shame for me upgrade to 128mb it´s very hard to accomplish
Great news!
thingonaspring ,
greart news to hear!
I have been using Cotull Q3 WM 6.1 for ages.......nothing beats it. (IMHO)
And with 128 MB RAM it's "snappy".
A new ROM is always welcome.Waiting with appreciation.
Thanks.

Can we change the title of the thread?...it is rather depressing and misguiding.
And do you expect us to suggest any apps to include in the ROM or would it be a Vanilla one?
uni dead nooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!
mine has tomal V8.9, windows 6.1 and spb mobile shell (yes i was resourceful and got it.) and mine now runs like a charm and give my 64mb xda exec a new ui and fresh look.
we still need roms for our 64mb unis for all those like me that dont have ours upgraded.
carry on the good work cheff's we all really appreciate you keeping our unis alive.
long live the uni
btw i have the new nokia 5530, but my uni beats it hands done in everyway.
The rom is now uploaded here :-

I´m completly agree about this, I think we should ask OP first
@teddybear3k, do you think you can consider this request please?
Also today Sun Dream released a new ROM, so Uni will be still alive!!!
OK title changed.
Here I can tell my IMATEJASJAR not dead, he is the top, the only disadvantage is the ram, but I already have a donor hand and will follow the operation and 128mb ram will be happy if you still make good ROMs for our UNI, maybe one day I learn to cook roms for my faithful friend

[Q] HTC TOUCH PRO or TOSHIBA TG01? URGENT!

i must make up my mind until monday 11 am Bucharerst time .

Toshiba TG01 FTW, yeh the htc touch pro has better software, but if you get the tg01, install the htc roms that our fantastic chefs cook! the one in my signature is IMHO the best sense ROM, gives it a near perfect expeirience to the htc hd2. and its a snapdragon! my friend has the touch hd, very simiiliar CPU to the touch pro and it is much slower. anyway the touch pro has been suceeded by tp2. the screen of the tg01 is wvga, so it is clearer. personally imho the touch pro is outdated and , get the tg01!
ok guys, due to lady bad luck the toshiba was sold and best next one was the htc touch pro. now i need you're help in finding a good os/updates/apps/something to get it 'rollin' . i would like something stable not that ported android beta os. any advice is welcomed.
and thank you oly for that quick response
IMHO,go for the hTC touch pro...Its a good device when you compare it to the Tosh... Also, the service network of Toshiba is in shambles....Need i say more after you read this?
tnks shr. but i have already bought it... now what OS do you recomend? apps.. everything. i am open to advices/links
please i would realy need another rom because this one lag-s!!
Have a look at the one in my Signature.
Also look at newer TAEL 2.5 sense & Energy ROMs.
TAEL ROM is smooth for me but user tweaking & the ability to read instructions & threads makes the diference between good & bad user experiences !
Tarkin Keyboard button driver is a must, will list some more stuff when have 10 minutes to spare, in middle of catching flight so just a quick reply.
oh, thank you very much! i do appreciate it! but unfortunate, i am a noob. i have never flashed a phone. all i had till now where symbian phones. this is first WM and HTC experience for me .
TG01 Roms
Hi I have been roaming around this forum for a few years now.
I too have a TG01, The best bit of advise I can give is to stay away from any win7 roms, the TG was not designed to ever run it. Win7 is very slow.
There are some very good roms out there, I have found that anything from mirolg tends to be stable.
With regards to flashing a new Rom Check out the "how to Guide" in the TG01 section (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654674) if you are still finding it a little hard have a search for the problem, but if you still cant work it out drop me a PM.
Hope you have a good time finding your perfect Rom.

We were all virgins to flashing at one point.
Do some research & follow guidelines for 6.5 install & run in period from energy & all should be well ! quite simple really ...
In my opinion 2.1 sense is better option on touch pro but some of the newer 2.5 sense ROMs are supposedly fast but do consume more memory resources & battery power.
