This is what I have loaded on my Cingular 8525:
Spb MobileShell 2.0
Spb Pocket Plus 4.0.2 - UltimateMax Icon Set
Spb Phone Suite 1.3.0 Beta1
Spb Diary 2.5.7
Spb Time 2.2.2
Spb Weather 1.7.2 - Stardock Weather Skin
Spb Backup 1.6.3
Spb Insight 1.5.1
Spb Imager 1.6
DinarSoft MemMaid 2.2
Microsoft Voice Command 1.6
CoreCodec CorePlayer 1.2.1 - Just released
SOTI Pocket Controller Pro 6.01
As you can see, I support Spb with all my lunch money.....
I've used Pointui 1.02b but it didn't have what I wanted plus a few bugs that didn't like me....
I've used both extensively and it right now I have to say SPB. But I can see Pointui being better if they ever allow full customization and have an option to be a plugin or take over the today screen
I have to say I had never heard of pointui until this thread and having looked at the screenshots I have to say YUK !
SPB Mobile Shell all the way.
JMHO.
i love pointui....once they get alot of these bugs ironed out, i think it will be great...
spb mobile shell is great....but kinda pricey, deleted after trial
i think when pointui gets closer to a finished product, and has more functionality, it WILL be better....but as of right now, ignoring the price, spb mobile shell is better...
Hi,
I say you that I am also same as dmj1973. I read all of you and find I am not hared it before read this thread. So I want more information about it.
thanks.

PointUI was released at 00:00 on new years day, a full ui replacement, its pretty amazing, but I only ever used it on a vga device, so all the graphics were screwed, and I also only used the first version... still though, it is pretty amazing...

here's a link to the Pointui site
And thank you all for responding, but i must say i do find Pointui slightly more of a simpler approach.
Point UI is a lot more touch friendly than SPB imo,
but then again thats just my taste.
Yeah it is currently lacking customization but besides that i dont have any other things that bug me.
I thought that PointUI was very slick (and liked it alot), but didn't think it was ready for primetime.
For me, PointUI is progressive and will just keep getting better developed.
first used pointUI and liked it but still didnt do all the things i wanted....now i'm sticking with mobileshell its been good to me
Tried Both...Definitely Prefer SPB Mobile Shell
Tried Point UI 1.02b and it was pretty good. But Navigation is so much easier with SPB Mobile Shell. That's not to say PointUI navigation is bad, just that Mobile Shell is much easier - IMHO.
Unfortunately, like PointUI Mobile Shell still has some bugs.
The main advantages of PointUI over SPB are:
- Free for now
- Can be set as default UI on boot (with SPB you have to start it up yourself - not able to do it with Startup link).
The main advantage of SPB Mobile Shell over PointUI is:
EASY (and somewhat configurable) navigation
I also prefer the "look" of SPB's today screen replacement (called Now) over PointUI's, but that's a matter of taste.
Same here -- I tried PointUI also. While it was nice, I just found there to be too many screen taps to get where I wanted to go. I'm sure it will get better as the development progresses, but I'm sticking with Mobile Shell for now too.

I haven't found any threads directly comparing the two... I'm tired of the boring today screen and even HTC Home. Which is better on the Wizard Manilla 2D or SPB Shell 2.1? I've tried Manilla and I really like it but it takes up a lot of resources and disables some apps I've come to rely on. (Battery Status, and Smartskey) I wanted to get some opinions before shelling (he he) out the greenbacks for SPB Shell.
What a stupid question!!!
Well don't I feel like an ass... Here you guys just got Manilla working on the Wizard and I'm asking which is better. I've seen threads for Manilla for a while now and never read any of them. I wasn't really interested in Manilla until I was browsing around and saw some of the skins. I thought I'd give it a try. Since I just went in last night and downloaded it and installed it with no problem, I assumed it has been working on Wizard for a while. In my defence I did search for a comparison but found none.
i vote foe manila
Iv tryed both and Manila is wey cooler and in new to wizard, bur SPB Shell its much much usfull so its your choice
i was a big spb mobile shell user when it 2+ first hit......I must admit...I now use Noonski's rom and I enjoy the device much much more...it's somehow made for our device where as mobile shell is universal plus with all the skins and clocks being rapidly designed and made available you can have whatever flavor you like....as with mobile shell....seems lately the designs are all just versions of the same concept...where m2d is fresh and to me faster as it is cooked into the rom...I had about 43 megs left on mine after flashing and right now I'm just trying to streamline and keep about half that while piling on the goodies I usually enjoy in my phone...using a 2g sd card I'm able to run much from there....unless mobile shell upgrades to 3 I'm going to say m2d wins

I had forgotten all about this question. Thanks for the answers. I'm back on the kick again and I was wondering if you still feel the same? I have tried M2D as a add on and cooked directly into the ROM. I have still yet to try SPB Mobile Shell. I may just get off the fence and do it. Worse thing could happen is I have to flash back to my HTC Home.

I tested twice solutions, it's my opinion:
M2D:
Positive
- Very excellent look
- Very fast, reponsive
- Switch window animated
- Several weather cities
- Most smart panel
Negative
- Memory leak
- Not stable (plugin reboots unexpectly)
- Memory used (+15Mb storage and +8Mb ram) with all apps needed
- Seems doen't work with S2U2
- Get pad action when using other programs
- Task switch to front automaticaly
- Landscape problems
- cannot show multiple calendar events
- poor weather city
- Must install all HTC programs (music player, pictures, ...)
SPB shell 2.1
Positive
- Less storage and ram memory (- 5Mb ram)
- Compatible S2U2
- Skinable (look of M2D, Xperia X1, WM7)
- Stable
- Cities for weather (Valenciennes is in the list)
Negative
- Less responsive
- M2D skin very slow
- Only one city for the weather
- S2U2 weather does not work
- Cannot have the standard windows taskbar and softkeys
- Today SPB plugin different with M2D today skin window.
- Strange organization of functions...
In conclusion, there is no perfect version, I reloaded Clean Rom and re-used standard WM today screen (battery status, calendar, time, messaging...)

1) Yes there is a bit of a memory leak but with tools like QuickMenu and Oxios Hibernate you can reclaim this
2) The issues with this plugin being unstable can be overlooked by the price tag
3) What taskmanager are you using ? M2D Built into wizflo weighs in at 5mb storage and 3.5 mb ram.
4) You dont need all the HTC Programs, use M2DC to disable the tabs you dont use
Great info guys. That is the kind of input I've been looking for. Thanks.

I have tried SPB Mobile Shell many times i made my custom made configuration and i think it works great, i have never had problems with it. I was wondering that it worked fast enough on HTC Wizard. No problems with cities in weather. It consumes a bit more of RAM and storage and it is necessary to install it in the device memory. Another bad thing about SPB mobile shell is that after installing it on the Wizard it booted very slowly after soft reset it took about 2 minutes until the device boot up. But anyway all these apps M2D, SPB Mobile Shell, TouchFLO etc are looking great but i do not like em. I like standard WM today screen with battery status, messages, today agenda, it is the only way to see all the necessary things on the today screen!
BEtter?
M2D is free..
spb yooou have to buy....
I am a believer of the bet things in life are free...
Hi all,
great site, I'm a newbie to all this and windows mobile, been reading and using different things from this forum, just interested to know if Spb shell works on the touch pro, might sound silly, but just installed on my sister in-laws tnty ii, it looks good, and because of the small issues with the touch flow, seems like a good thing to try, sorry if I've posted in the wrong place and the question is stupid, but just asking..... cheers . Love my touch pro, previously tried the Omnia well 3 of them......very poor
I haven't tried it on Touch Pro, but there should be no reason for it not to work..... after disabling TF3D of course

It works perfect. I use SPB shell since the first day on my TP.

With a bit of tweaking, if it perfectly possible using both TF3D and Mobileshell on the TP. I did it myself, combining MS' application menus and TF3D Program Tabs without having to touch any of the manilla files, just by creating a couple of shortcuts.
yes works well
Many thanks all, I've installed it, and it works really well, in fact surprisingly well, looks good in black, now to find skins, and the dilemma in whether to use instead of the touch flo, again thanks

Interesting.
The best I could do (without touching any manilla files) is to add SPB Mobile shell as one of the Programs in the Progam Tab.
Still missing the ability to directly access the shell from the today screen (i.e. Phone Volume Setting, White/Black List, etc.)
i use it instrad of tf3d
So any SPB Mobile Shell themes that work for QVGA devices should work fine for SPB Mobile Shell on the Touch Pro (with it's VGA screen)?
Just making sure.. The Touch Pro (Fuze) should be at AT&T any day now.. If I know I can use SPB Mobile Shell to change themes it's a definite buy for me..
On a related note, is there an easy way to switch Mobile Shell themes without having to soft-boot or copy over old shell files? I really liked how in SPB Pocket Plus you could go to a 'theme' menu and choose the color theme you want.. I'd love to intall 4 or 5 and be able to switch back and forth on the fly..

I have SPB mobile shell that works with TF3D. What I've done is added a shortcut to the programs menu (in TF3d). When I press it I get a nice interface that enables me to choose which program to load.
WIndows mobile is almost completely hidden during regular use (almost).
Because of all the problems I'm having with my Pro might check out SPB. Where can I get it?

Maybe it's possible to use SecondToday to keep both TF3D and Spb Mobile Shell. I use SecondToday with PocketBreeze.
installed spb mobile shell on my htc tp... the interface works fine but somehow when i receive calls the caller id interface becomes laggy and sometimes inconsistent...
my take... so now i am using tf3d with the new s2u2 1.3 with caller id enabled and it works flawlessly ( so far)
For the last few years I was running winmo5 with SPB Mobile Shell and Pocket Plus running. Now with my new phone I have winmo6.1 and Touchflo3d.
Touchflo is very nice but some of the features of SPB I miss.
I see people using WkTask to replace some of the features missing out of touchflo that SPB had but WkTask seems to mess up my title bar and make navigating harder.
I also see people running wisbar, what would that replace from the above mentioned software?
Do any of you out there have experience with all three and perhaps some enlightenment for this not so newb to winmo but winmo6.1 fuze newb?
Hi All,
I am looking for a Home Screen Plugin for my Flint.
I have seen many nice looking ROMs but I do not want to flash the ROM until the device is out of warranty!
I am just looking for a nice home/today screen!
I am also looking for a nice little app like the old battery status!
I had this on my old XDA Orbit, which displayed Battery charge and signal strength in %, and memory card info, as well as CPU temp and also had an overclock facility too! I had my standard Orbit (201Mhz) overclocked and running very nicely and stable at 299Mhz!
Also if there is anything else anyone recommends throwing into the mix then please do so!
Many thanks
Alex

i have shell 3.i will try an send it to you if it loads on email
I use iFonz2 which is an iphonelike shell and I love it. Luckily you can configure it to be quite unlike iphone in appearance, because I don't want to look like an iphone wannabe. I just want the wonderful functionality. I'ts free and you can find it here:

I can second SPB Mobile shell 3, I use it on my Flint and it looks great - and is very customisable. Check out the forum on SPB for some useful aditions such as widgets for VGA screens.

I did try try SPB Mobile Shell 3 - I wasn't that impressed! It didn't run very well!
It was slow and jerky, not smooth! - Is that how it is or do I need to tweak some setting somewhere to make it run better?
I installed it and it worked fine. No setting changes, no jerking, no delays. I did add the VGA widgets and a few other mods from the SPB forum, but it didn't alter the performance. Perhaps it's the ROM you're using, or other apps you have installed? Although I have do also Wisbar adv3 running and eveything is still OK. My partner has SPB MS3 on her XDA stella and it runs even smoother and quicker than it does on my Flint, but I wouldn't describe mine as slow or jerky. Hope this ramble helps
I've just re-installed it, but its still slow and jerky when rotating between screens!
Anyone have any ideas??

Screen rotation with Spb MS3 is a known issue. Are you using the latest version- Spb did some work to improve it, but its still slow.
How do you find the screen transitions if you stay in the same orientation? For me they were fast and smooth, though I've stopped using any shell programs now due to their memory usage.

I believe it was the latest version!
If I'm honest I really didn't like it!
I just migrated from a Tytn2 running Athine OS Manilla Edition (TF2D)
I was really impressed with it! It was quick, smooth and easy to use!
Thats what I am really looking for on my XDA Flint, but I don't want to move away from the standard ROM until the device is out of warranty!
I'd normally say go for broke with a new ROM as there are tools around to restore the SPL and OS to the release version, but as the O2 ROM is pretty similar to cooked ROMs in terms of performance I'd agree with you.
What to you actually want from a Home Screen?
I've now reverted to the standard WinMo home screen with whichever standard plug-ins I want, plus SBP Weather and Chronos alarm. On top of that I'm now using LaunchPad from Panoramic Software which can take over the Start button, or a softkey, and which opens up a full screen icon grid of 'links' to programs, settings or files.
I've reviewed it Here; not a Home screen, but does the job for me

Have you considered TF2D on your Flint, not 100% perfect has a few niggles but fairly responsive on my X7510. see here for more info:

Okay, I'm getting bored with SPB mobile shell, so can anyone suggest an alternative? Free is perferred, and I would like it to have a level of integration on par with mobile shell.
Thanks!
http://www.throttlelauncher.com/
it's free
enjoy!
Thanks for the quick reply! I tried ThrottleLauncher with an HTC TouchFLO skin/theme, but found it WAAY too slow on my SCH-i760 Perhaps 10FPS.
EDIT: something like Androkkid would be neat. I tried Androkkid for a period and found it very blocky and not anti-ailised, and wasn't fond of the loading time.
I'll be trying iFonz, but I'm not a big fan of the iTouch/iPhone UI.
EDIT2: Nah, iFonz and Winterface are a bit too hard to change the icons/what they do. What I'm looking for is something free that imitates the Windows Mobile 6.0 for non-touchscreen phones sliding panel <-MyHome. That's what it's called! Trying to find a free MyHome lookalike for WinMo6.1 Professional
