Can not delete GPRS/3G connections - Touch Cruise General

Because I have to travel abroad and do not want to user roaming for data I installed the Modaco-nodata program. When I run it, it finds 2 connections for GPRS/G3 installed. When checking in the settings-tab for connections, I had only one. Then I deleted the connection from the settings-tab.
According the connection-setting in the WM6 settings-menu, I have no installed connections. Also when I want to check email, there is an error-message that I cannot get my mail because there is no connection available.
So far, so good.... but....
There are still 2 connections available, because the HTC-Home weather can still connect to GPRS/G3 and also QuickGPS will also make a connection via GPRS/G3. I see the popup that a connection is made with the connection-names programmed before, but they are not in the settings anymore. Also Modaco-nodata sees them, and Spb GPRS monitor too.
It seems that some programs use a different setting to make a connection than others.
Is there a registry-setting where the connections are stored and how can I delete the connections there ???

settings->connections->connections-Advanced-select network
and choose both non isp in the dropdownboxs and it cant use phone network....

OK, thanks for that. That solved one problem, there were also GPRS-WAP and GPRS-MMS settings there ! I block both now too and no unwanted connections anymore after using modaco-nodata.
But I have still have 2 "old" connections which I can see in some programs, but they do not show up in the connections mentioned above. However if I try to make a new connection with the same name, there is an error message saying that there is a connection with the same name already.... Not a very big problem because I know that I can not use them, but I like to remove both. Are those stored in registry somewhere ?

Hi guys,
I've been looking around quite some time because I had the same problem.
Here is the registry key where you can find the connection list:
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A37-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections
After removing the "old" connections that were appearing in some programs, it's now fine.
Vye

To completely remove the connections you also have to delete these connections under
HKCU\Comm\RasBook
Just delete the complete key named like the connection you want to delete.
Then softreset and their gone.

Both "dve1313" and "wilriker" thanks !
That worked.
However HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A37-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections was empty here, but I had another entry named:
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections which contains my connections and removed the obsolete ones there worked fine.

my phone was working perfectly on the internet using 3g, o had configured all the settings (vodafone, access point pp.vodafone.co.uk and user and password WAP, until i tried to set up mms, i installed a few cabs, deleted them now, put the connections back to EXACTLY how they were, tried the networks auto configure again and just says somethign like disconnected or lots of "g.00"''" all in some random order, sometimes it says if changing settings fails to fix reset according to manufacturers instructions, although i do not want to do a hard reset as i will lose too much!! anyone got anyyy ideas what i have done wrong?
and
please can someone tell me how to get to
"HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A37-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections was empty here, but I had another entry named:
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections"
as i have a couple ofblank connections, ideally i would like to reset just the connection side of the device leaving the rest...but can't!!
thanks in advance!!

internet/data issues with flashed tilt

I flashed my tilt to an htc rom and I'm now having problems getting on the internet. Is there some place where i could find a cab file with at&t settings or anywhere I could find the settings and enter them by hand. thanks
still looking. thought I found a solution but it was for hermes.
try this network config...
thanks a lot. that seems to have done the trick.
turns out it didnt fix the problem. i can connect to the web via PIE but for some reason I can't get either gmail or windows live to connect. I don't know why it would work for some but not others.
Same problem
I am having the same issues too. IE and outlook mailbox can connect without any problem to the internet. Gmap too.
However, I am having problem with fring and skype applications. Anyone experiencing this issue?
I have flashed my Tilt with the original HTC Kaiser rom.
i think i might have the solution for ya...change the isp.cingular to wap.cingular
I'm having all sorts of problems, too. Very odd. I don't understand how it can work one minute, then not the next.
One thing that has seemed to help is to use the advanced configuration tool to keep the connection active all the time.
It's under Connections > Connection Always On.
Keep in mind, I had to choose MEdia Net. When I chose "My ISP GPRS", I couldn't connect at all....
I'm having the same issue. I didnt notice it until now with Fring. Over WIFI it works, over 3g it says cannot find internet.
I checked and my settings are already on the wap.
So other ideas?
I've also been having intermittent luck with the settings on my TILT flashed to HTC ROM.
One way I got around it for a while, was to connect to Pocket Internet Explorer to get the connection setup, then hop on Google Maps/MS Live Search/etc.
I also had this problem with MiniMo and Opera for a while. Eventually it all just worked itself out I guess. Also, make sure your 'proxy' settings don't get messed up. Sometimes I'll go into the connection settings and the "This connection uses a proxy" is checked... I'll go back in later, and it won't be. Not sure what the conflict is.

Here is a solution.
When you create settings using the Wizard it puts 2 connections. 1 MY ISP and the other MEdia Net.
GO to Settings -- Connections -- Connections -- Advanced -- Select Networks -- First drop down box make sure that My ISP is selected then click ok up top.
Try it and see if it works now.
If it doesnt select MEdia Net as the default connection and edit it, remove proxy and see if it works now. If still no luck remove MEdia Net from one of the connections, by managing existing connections tap and hold and then click delete. Then set MY ISP as the default connection in advance --select networks.
Good Luck.
That took care of it..
Actually what took care of it was going into the media net settings and unclicking the proxy settings..
It was using a proxy to connect but no server in the box. I clicked and whammo works now!
Thanx
same issue
Just wanted to mention had the same issue (particularly with skype) and made the change mentioned further up in the post about changing the connection setting from isp. to wap. and now skype works like a charm, thanks!
please help me aswel

Disable 3G, Edge etc; Use WIFI only

I dont have a data package for my fuze so i want to disable it from connecting when i load an app that uses internet. I wish to have wifi as my default connection.
Is there a simple way to do this?
Search for the nodata app. It will allow you to disable all data connections other than wifi. I am in the same situation as you and it works out fine for me so far.
http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=24287
or you could just go to your connection settings and under advanced select My work network in both drop down boxes...
um you could just go to the connection settings and delete the dial up profile
Or you could just go to Comm Manager and turn off Data Connection.
go to settings, then Communications and turn off your data connection.
yeah but he doesnt have a data connection that wouldnt stop it from dialing up would it?
If there's no wifi - it will automagically turn the data connection back on (when it needs one - weather/email/etc.). Why there's even a switch.... i dunno.
Well i did disable so it didnt even come up so i dont get charged even the smallest amount. However youtube doesnt work with wifi, everything else does.

I have disabled data connection and Youtube works great for me over wifi, so don't worry, it's not a software limitation.
I cant figure it out then, it doesnt seem to work over wifi. Perhaps your just a lucky fuze user.

You can always ask your service provider to put a data block on your account, just to be on the safe side

This might sound noobish, but do you have a step by step?? Is it on Settings>Connections>Advanced>Select Netwoks>....?? Thanks in advance.
Search and dowload NOGPRS cab. It should be a zipfile with a cab in it. Run the cab on yout phone. You should now have an icon that says Nodata. This allows you to toggle the connection so it can come on freely when needed by an app, or not come on at all even if an app needs it. Pretty self explanatory. No need to create fake accounts, or delete anything. If you delete stuff, then when you need to use it if ever, you have to re-enter everything. This eliminates that.

Stop WinMobile establishing data-connections without asking

Hey mates!
First of all I wanna wish you a hapy new year
Ok, now to my question.
I've got a HTC Touch HD a week ago.
I recognized that it establishes a data-connection without asking me.
When i'm using Wifi - no problem.
But as I don't have a data-flat that gets quite expensive, if I can't use Wifi (most of the time no wifi available).
Is it possible to set up Winmobile so that it asks me BEFORE establishing an data connection?
I didn't find any solutions, google didn't help me, too.
Of yourse I could just change the adresses in the settings.
e.g- "internet.t-mobile.de" to "internet.t-mobile.deXXX" ---> no connection possible.
But i want to receive and send MMS at any time, so that would not be possible any more.
I hope you can help me, thx.
greetz
try nodata
this should do what you need....i think
http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility-nodata/
thx, but not really what i need.
With this programm i still have to close connections by hand.
I just want WinMobile to ask me BEFORE it establishes a connection.
For example: When I open an programm which tries to download something, a popup should appear
--->
Establish data-connection?
[ ]Yes
[ ] NO
I hope u understand my problem
greetz
No one with the same problem here and a solutuon?
greetz
*Hope pushing is allowed after 2 days*
greetz
I have the same problem with my Touch 3G (Jade). Turning the Data Connection off in the Main Touchflow settings tab helps but doesn't stop it completely. The worst thing is that doesn't seem to download anything but just connecting is enough to start costing.
I spoke to HTC today and they gave me a solution to this problem. Go to Settings, Connections, Connections, Advanced and then Select Networks. There you should find a drop down tab with something like ******GPRS, where ****** is your network. Now now choose New and create a new connection name like "No GPRS" for example. Click OK.
You now have a title but no settings so when you select this one, the phone can't connect to the internet. It might attempt to connect but it won't go through. Don't worry about MMS as this uses a different set of settings and works perfectly (for me).
Hope this helps, Woolly.
Find what apps are creating the connection so you can prevent it. Spb Monitor should be able to show you that.
Using Modaco NoData (link given above) will just do the same saving your time (you don't have to create a fake connection set).
What schlitzohr1812 wants is a way to make WM ask for permission to connect. I haven't heard of anything like this, but if you assign a shortcut to NoData it's almost as easy as what you are looking for. By the way, despite the name, NoData will prevent WM from opening connections, not only to exchange data over them.
Just remember that if you disable the connection while it is already open, you still have to close it manually. Also beware that if in your Comm Manager you have an enabled "Data connection" button (on some phones it's always disabled when the connection is closed, on others it can be used to open it), that button WILL open a connection even if they are disabled.
Thx for helping guys, but "Black Antitoon" is right.
That's not exactly what I was searching for but better than nothing.
I'm used to my old nokia phone (N70) which asked me before.
Incomprehensible why Windows Mobile does not have such an option...
greetz Timo
anybody wrote an app for this data permission yet please?

help ASAP

my problem is my webbroswers *both IE and Opera* does not connect to my cellar internet but only wifi
every other internet app works, Youtue, google map, etc Myphone seems to partly work but i think get stuck when sync'ing my contacts could be a bug with myphone so am discussing this with they expert team
so can anyone expalin why my web broswers is not working?
P.S Skyfire Beta works
Device = ATT Fuze
Rom = NATF v4.4 Fuze Edition
I've never had this problem, but then again never flashed one of NATF's roms. Try posting this question in the NATF rom thread. Good luck
every rom i tried this happen, atomic, NATF, Monex, etc
go to connection settings turn off the proxy check box
proxy is off, i dont like using proxy i live NYC by the way
What have you tried to solve the problem?
A soft reset?
Maybe you have nodata running, or forgot to activate the GPRS/3G connection before uninstalling it.
i tried 3 different rom, soft and hard reset, i tried the hidden proxy cab and remove proxy cab, tried manually setting the proxy, changing the default connection in the connection setting and all seem to not work
I must say this is a problem I haven't really read about yet (new to posting on the forum but not from reading)
If you do install nodata (cab on request), maybe you can check if the phone's data connection is enabled?
Maybe there are other factors then the forementioned program that can affect that setting.
It is a weird problem however, since other apps do have internet...
What if you start GoogleMaps to get the connection going, then open the browser. Does that let the browser connect?
it is very strange and what is this no data cab u mention
i have also used skype and it works, it kinda sucks that am limited to one broswer and thats skyfire, since its a beta also its not the greatest, my only other option is to turn on the wifi, connect to a access point and then it works, other than that i get opera nor IE to work which is very puzzling
also when i tap my h icon in the task bar it says am connected to medianet but it doesnt load

Nodata is an application that detects (GPRS/3G) dataconnections on your telephone and can switc them on or off.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=151212&d=1233148782
Because the other apps on your telephone do have internet, the chance of this thing working is very slim.
Good luck tough...
youtube is processing my vid, i will post the link a lil bit later
and i dont think that nodata stuff will work due to the fact that it might actually detect a internet connection like the rest of my applications but wont be able to figure out why just IE and Opera dont work.
ok as promise here is the link to the vid

Ok, I didnt see a connection setup wizard on your phone? Did you run that on setup during the initial boot over your phone. I would recommend running that again....I really didnt see it, which is odd did you do something with it?
Second, when you went into connections...then when you see media net click on proxy settings, make sure there is a check box on this network connects to the internet. and make sure the next box is not checked and there is nothing in the box....
this is a fuze edition rom so i guess thats why NATF left it out since fuze is orginally att. and is proxy a must cuz i tried using proxy before but it didnt work.
cant someone help me?
try going to your comm manager and disabling your data connection. This should disconnect you. After that, re-enable it and see what happens.

disable wifi windows mobile 6.5? Any ideas please

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum, and was wondering if anyone can help me out. I have an Acer S200 but figured that perhaps this could relate to any windows mobile 6.5 device. Basically due to restrictions at work, we need to disable internet access from our work mobile devices!
I have read various posts that state that this can be achieved by disabling wifi access by altering the registry keys, however none of the methods that i have come accross seem to apply to my Acer S200 mobile 6.5.
Sorry to be a pain, but does anyone know how i can do this?
Thanks in advance everyone.
alan
Like it has to be unable to turn on, or off? Does the default winmo comm manager not work? If not, just try a third party one, theres plenty out there
Hi cmstackar
thanks for the reply. Yes thats right, there should not be an ability to toggle it on or off - just for the wifi to be disabled for the user. I understand that changing registry keys is only a temporary solution since hard resetting would put things back to normal, but even that's okay for the time being.
Any ideas anyone?
What third party software did you particularly have in mind?
What about your internet access from the phone network? Surely that would be the issue, not wifi which you can't use to connect to the internet unless you're near a internet accessible wireless network which you have the network key to access...
hi xaccers,
the phone doesn't have a data connection plan with it, so it would be too expensive to use for internet access i imagine.
but, likewise then, is there a way to disable both of these (wifi, data connection)?
I know this is such a strange request, but appreciate any pointers from forum members.
Thanks
If would be easy if you could cook your own ROM, but if the user is willing to do a hard reset, there is nothing you could do to a factory ROM to prevent it from coming back after a hard reset.
hi trueg
that is true. However, I am a complete newby to cooking ROMS etc, and also if the user did hard reset the device, it would need to be taken back to technical department to have software reinstalled, etc. So the temporary changes could be reintroduced again.
So, given the above, do you you know how to temporary disable wifi/data connection? I have read others state that this can be achieved by altering registry keys - but the ones that are referred to are not present on my acer.
any expert willing to depart a little advice my way?
So your Acer phone has a wifi thats always on? I never encountered such a device but nonetheless if your wifi network at work is secured then your phone won't be able to connect to the wifi router hence won't get any internet connection.
hiya,
The users can use the devices in public wifi areas. But also, now that i've been trying to do this for ages, i really would just like to know how to fiddle with the registry keys. its kind of bugging me that I haven't managed to figure this out...
will I really need to learn how to cook my own ROM? (I'm not sure I want to take the risk :S)
I'm sure there is a really easy way to disable wifi/data connection (even if temporarily upon hard resetting) that the more experience members can help with... Please
thanks for all the input so far guys.
alan
OK, so you want to prevent users from accessing the Wireless Manager, or do you want WiFi to not work?
How smart are the users that you are dealing with?
You can easily hide the Wireless Manager from the Control Panel and you could possibly overwrite wrlsmgr.exe with a dummy file, but preventing access to the Wireless Manager would mean they couldn't put the phone in aeroplane mode.
There should be several ways to change the registry to prevent WiFi from working at all.
I like to use FdcSoft Task Manager v3.1 to edit my registry.
Hi Alan, You can try cooking a ROM..it's not so difficult unlock your device go to XDA WIki find your phone then check step by step the procedure, connect Acer to the PC download the ROM you think is better for you, copy it to desktop, then to your device. That's it
Thanks trueg,
you say there should be several ways of changing the registry to prevent wifi from working at all. Would you be kind enough to let me know how? sorry - complete newbie here.
francomur99: thanks for pointing that out buddie. I'll look into that too...
OK, well do you have the following key in your device?
HKLM\System\State\Hardware
WiFi = dword:00000001
Changing this to 0 removes the WiFi option from the default Windows Wireless Manager.
Does your device use the default Wireless Manager or do you have a 3rd party Manager?
Update: Hmm, that only works until you soft reset and if you have a separate WiFi manager, it can still turn it on. Well I can make you an application that will set this back to 0 after every soft reset and you can hide any WiFi managers from the control panel, but they will still exist in the \Windows directory.
The best way may be to create invalid entires for the WiFi driver. Do you have this entry in your registry?
HKLM\Software\Drivers\WLAN
AdapterName = ....

Hi Trueg,
Thanks for the tip. Yes, you're advice has removed the WLAN display from the comm manager. However, I do not have the HKLM\Software\Drivers|WLAN entry.
Infact, under HKLM\Software, there is no Driver folder. There is a HKLM\Driver folder however this doesn't contain a WLAN subdirectory.
Any ideas?
Schaps Advanced Config allows you to edit the com manager. You could easily remove the wifi toggle from there, but it would still be fairly easy to work around if you wanted to turn the wifi on. Maybe someone else could tell you how to remove it from the settings menu.
Sorry alan303487, what is your status with this?
hi trueg
I haven't been able to move forward with this since the post on 16th April 2010 11:01.
i.e. the wifi connectino from the comm manager isn't showing, but I can still connect via windows menus.
would still appreciate any advice - so far, it seems that cooking my own ROM is the only other method thats been suggested.
still would appreciate your help trueg. Any ideas?
thanks mate.
OK, well how would you like to proceed? Would you like to try and hide all of the options that will allow WiFi to be turned back on, or disable WiFi permanently?
Also, what do you have listed under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\?
Example: the WiFi driver on my HTC Touch Pro is
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\TNETW1251]
hi trueg,
thanks for helping..
well, either of the options would do - depends on the complexity of the method involved.
regarding what listed under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\
there are many subfolders - below is a selection.
AFD
Application Download
AxyncMac
AsyncMac1
BCMSD
BCMSD1
BTCEPAN..
....
connection sharing
..
connMfr
CXPort

Thanks for your help.
