Do you use User Customization (UC)? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

This is just a POLL!
What is UC? It is a feature contained in UC compliant ROMs developed by Sleuth255. A UC compliant ROM extends initial customization to your SD card so you can load cabs and install XML files. What this means is that once you get your customization scripts right, you can flash any UC compliant ROM and all your apps and settings will be restored as part of the initial customization process whenever your SD card is inserted in the slot.
More Info about UC here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366337
Thanks for Voting!
_

If you use UC please comment on which ROM you use it?
Dutty, Alex, Sleuth ...
Thanks!
_

use dutty's...I messed mine up first try and it just hung on loading SD.... Was just because I had a space in the name instead of _ all good now. Love UC

Yep, on good ole' solid Sleuth v3.0. I rearrange my today screen, do reistry changes & tweaks, change my search parameters, install a few proggies, add & change some folders, icons & names, etc.

Yes I do use UC on my own UC compatible ROM
- L26_WM_6.1_PRO.V5
Very handy to autoinstall your bought apps from Storagecard.
Cheers,
Leo

Has anyone had negative experiences with UC?
Any reason why you don't use it or wouldn't use it?
Thanks!

UC is very conveniant upgarde to the ROM arena.
As much as I can see, for now, I will not install ROM that doesn't supprt UC. It saves me all the annoying trouble of reinstalling everything on my own.
I installed the cooked ROM, sync it to my desktop, and I'm done.
Amazingly great idea!
Amir.

absolutely agree, can't live without, this is great if you're flashing a lot.
would be nice if there were some more options, but it's still great
atm i'm using dutty's newest rom, before udK and sleuth.

My only complaint is that I can't get TeleNav to install correctly. It hangs on the install everytime. Other then that, I've used it 3 times, last one was on Alex's Multimedia ROM, and it's been great.

I hadn't heard of UC until I stumbled across this thread.
I do think I'll need to look into this further. Sounds fantastic!

I know of it, but I don't flash nearly enough to make use of it.

UC Package for Novice Users
I came up with an idea to create a UC package for Novice users.
I put in a lot of free apps / Trial Software and themes that I have compiled.
Feel free to try it out and tell me what you think.
I am thinking about creating some more packages one designed for Multi-Media, and other one designed for business users, etc.
Test it out and let me know what you guys think. I have included instructions with it and a list of apps.

Dutty's latest here. Have just been using it to install cabs to the device now as ive not much time lately to read up on the registry edit and etc. sections.
Great tool, easy to use. Thanks

Mostly thinking about some trail software. FlexMail being one of them. I haven't compiled a large list but thinking about adding BB connect and other things to that nature.

thanks ALLtheWay....I am downloading now and gonna try it out..

Thanks for all the Comments and Ideas!
This reminds me of a Windows XP installation disc that I know of... it's called LastXP or LastV for Vista

[care] Yippee a new PDAViet ROM wooohooooooooo [/care]
Hasn't it been proven time and time again that these roms are a complete waste of bandwidth to download and time to install?
They are simply what's already out there, with a few new apps.
Everything that exists in these roms can be done with the registry hacks, or apps found elsewhere on these forums.
I really don't see why people get so worked up wanting to download and install them.
Wait for a decent rom by the well known builders here if you value your time and device.

Well, I download every ROM and archive them, that's the reason why I downloaded this one too.
Besides that, it has proven, that some changes and patches in registry make one release work well and the other not, so I want to test it. And none the less, I had a WM6 Release for the Wizard from PDAViet and it was the best coming to apps and tweaks. That's why I downloaded it.
But without a List what's on it and what has changed, I will not switch away from my Darkforce ROM

I tried out of curiosity. The free rom after reset is 29572kb
I'm not sure to keep it, but having a couple of apps (incl. office mobile) to start with isn't that bad for me.
Windows live messenger doesnt stay open for me on this rom. It just opens and closes. I cant figure out why. I went through all the settings. So far I like this ROM, I am not sure to keep it or try Jwrightmcps. ANyone try both and have any opinions
Jwrightmcps is better than pdaviet anyday.
Jwrightmcps' = Quality rom
PV's = Pretty icons
Just about sums it up.
Thats a tough one for me. I love pretty icons. I will try j's. SO j's is faster?

__Alex__,
Haven't had a chance to try your ROM yet, but I wanted to thank you for taking the time to provide thorough documentation. I really like the direction some chefs are taking in this regard.
Thanks,

Alex, did you solve the issue with the small font of the Palm SMS application? Nice roms!
Great stuff Alex! I have to say I haven't changed from my Kaiser Kitchen cooked ROMs using your base rom for anything.... Even though I try everything released I always go back to it. That base is hard to beat. Thanks for all your work
I'll be loading this morning, just not sure which ROM yet. I have loved your MM ROM and am sure this one will be great as well. So many decisions! Thanks Alex!
I am so impressed!
Not that my opinion matters to anyone, but let me just commend you on a few things.
Wow! You put a bunch of work into this. Quantity, yes of course that's obvious. But the Quality of information is just superb. Discussions have taken place about this sort of thing and I have held out Quentin as the best example. I will now have to include Alex as well. I have watched your releases and have seen a consistant increase in the quality of information. This one (although much is structural and not yet filled in) is a shining example for the rest of the forums to learn from.
Now I be checking out the ROMs... Cheers
Alex - I have been playing with the Home ROM this morning and the only issue i have run into is the HTC Home Plugin is not keeping up with the time. Meaning when i turn the screen on after 5-10 minutes the clock quickly "catches-up" with the correct time. This is something I have seen with the HTC plugin in other ROMS and, at least for me, it keeps the phone from working probably with EAS and direct push. Since direct push is critical for me, I am going to try to the Games ROM and see if direct push will work correctly for me.
Overall awesome ROM, just wanted to pass along my observations from this morning.
Alex,
Looking forward to the HTC Home ROM. Any ETA when it will be available for download?

Jeez. I had to HR the thing yesterday.... 5 hours of setup later, I was back where I wanted to be.
Now, new roms! There goes another 4 hours or so of my day.
Thanks Alex! Downloading the Home one now.
Absolutely LOVE these roms!!! One quick question though. I have looked, but am not sure about what to call it to find the answer. The battery icon on the home screen in the top right corner. How do I remove it, and get back to the standard icon that is usually there?
Thanks
What's the "standard icon" you're referring to? The "X" shows up there for closing windows/apps. As for anything else that shows up there all I recall is the task manager controls. In my opinion however, that corner gets way too much action with those task managers. It drives me nuts. The "QuickMenu" with the built in task menu that Alex included is so simple, convenient and beats the others hands down.
--Cheers
Awesome work Alex!
I'm going to need to cook my own personal kit on top of this, or come up with a list/order of installed programs so that I can bring it up to snuff @ where I have it now, using Alex v4, which I think is absolutely smoking.
Keep up the good work.
Also, I know that dutty puts performance tweaks / battery tweaks in his roms... I assume that is mostly page pool / cache sizes... and was wondering if you were doing the same things in that regard. I assume the battery tweaks are all available with Advanced Settings 2.0...
Great Job Man
I love your wiki page, well organized and lots of info....
Alex,Great Job. I have been running the Home rom for a few hours now and love the apps as well as the performance. I would like to remove what I assume is the VistaHide Battery Gauge from the top of the today screen. Please advise.
Thanks and keep up the good work.

Thanks for the new version. I will try this evening.
Actually after few day using V4.1 (as well as V3.5) I came back to V2. To me, V2 is the best in term of speed and stability.
Thanks shogunmark... let the flashing and testing begin... I like this "business user in mind" approach
thank you.
I don't want to fill up the forums with another useless post, but I really had to give you (and all the incredible, hard-working cooks of xda-dev) major props.
I'm a chronic, compulsive ROM flasher. I've tried every ROM I could possibly find over the last four months or so.
Up until recently I had lurked the Death ROM thread, but had never flashed any of the builds until v4.1 and now flashing 4.1lite.
I have to say, as far as speed, functionality, and feel, Death is in a category of its own. I had bounced between L26, Dutty's, Hyperdragon, and ryncppr most recently, and though they have each individually made amazing contributions to ROM development, none of the ROMs run like this one.
Maybe I am having a different experience than other users and this one just happens to work incredibly on my particular device? Maybe it has do with the fact that you cook and tweak it for AT&T/TILT (I also use a Tilt)?
Whatever it is, it will take one hell of a rom to pry me away from Death.
When I pull myself out of debt, I'll donate some dough your way. If you're ever in the Los Angeles area, I'll buy you a drink (or 5). If you ever want/need sound design for anything (custom sounds[beeps, blips, rings, w/e] for ROMs, sites, software; films, post-production work), need recording, mixing, mastering work, whatever--just send me a PM.
You have ended my compulsive flashing in search of a ROM I can feel content with. My life has returned (though I compulsively check for updates still). I really liked V4, but as far as applications, I mainly text/email compulsively, Opera, and Calendar. Calendar is vital to keeping my life together and ThumbCal was not cutting it. 4.1 solved my problems.
Thanks to all the cooks again. Please don't flame me for the ass-kissing. I wouldn't have if I didn't feel it was necessary.
And since I'm here I might as well ask--
Do you know how I can make Calendar recognize a phone number typed in the location field so I can click them to dial? I can do a "tel:###.###.####" in the Notes section, but the Location field would be so much more convenient (my blackjack did it).
Also, any ideas as to how to make wifi more reliable? I think it's my crappy router, but sometimes it just can't authenticate or loses connection a lot.
Is there any way to cook IMAP-IDLE functionality into the standard email program on WM6.1 without using the (unreliable) software solutions that are out there right now?

Yardie V4 Rom.....What ch'all want???

OK, so thanks to all who have tried my ROMs and left me feedback and an especially big thank you to those of you who have donated to my beer fund!!!! But what i wanna do now is throw it open to y'all! Lots of people have asked for this and that adding or removing, it's been impossible to keep up with! So what i want, is for y'all to use this thread to tell me what tweaks/programs etc you all want, please do not ask for radios though as obviously they all work different around the world, my Rom will ship with whatever radio i feel is best for my locality and battery life! Also DO NOT ASK FOR ANYTHING THAT INFRINGES COPYRIGHT.......It will be a waste of your time!!!!!
My initial thoughts are to drop the D3D drivers for now as they slow down the screen rotate too much, other thoughts are to drop TCPMP for you tube player and add music ID, possibly a couple more coffee break games. Would also like to add manilla 2D(But a couple of issues to sort with it first!)
So let me know!!!
Add-on for Yardie Rom
I would like to cast a vote for the Raphael Keyboard (unless there is a working version of the Opal Keyboard released before the Rom is made.)
Thanks!!!

i agree with the raphael keyboard, haven't seen the opal keyboard. SJ's HyperDragon PRO Manilla 2D runs flawless so I would like to see that in the ROM. Also, the youtube application is the best i've used hands down. BeeJive compatability is a must but other than that i can't think of anything else.
Hi yardie,
Ive been a big fan of your roms. Just wanted to add somethings id love to see in them.
1 - The action/quick menu tab in place of the calender tab on the bottom left soft button.
2 - The long press keys for power/send/end
3 - Not a big deal, but a few new games would be nice
4 - Not sure if you would be able to because its only beta, but adding in skyfire browser, or if not maybe opera, as PIE is terrible and slow.
I personally like a real full rom, the more programs on it the better, as long as you can maintain good speed.
As long as you can add some of the recommendations, but still keep up the speed as you have done, I will be sold!
Thanks again.
IMHO I like more a very light and clear merged ROM (Kaiser/Raphael), newest build with so less as possible apps. Contains only essential apps as:
- Standard WM (eg Office, Outlook, QuickGPS, Camera, Symbol Pad)
- 3D drivers of Samsung Omnia
- Flash 3.1
- MS_NETCF
- MS_SQL_CE_MOBILE
- ESMERTEC_JBED
- Hou Ming FileExplorer extension is handy but not necessary
The rest should be installable by users. Changed icons are nice, but not too blinky or full change. It looks not clear and I've been in the situation I couldn't find the apps immediately, I had to look twice.
Standard theme: I like the looks of your previous ROM

hey yardie,
Here's my input:
1. Stick with the media versions, I personally prefer these (DiamondMedia lol), and love yours.
2. Stick with 3.29, it's very stable and I've never had your ROM crash on me
3. Manila2D is cool, but so is HTC Home IMHO. I'm fine with either one.
4. For Beejive compatiblity, you might want to take a look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2581946&postcount=1
5. I prefer YouTubePlay over the new Youtube application, for speed and stability, and its extremely lightweight and has more options
6. I suggest taking a peek at AdvanedConfig 3.2's .xml files, it has some VERY useful Registry edits
7. I prefer 19588 and some newer builds rather than the standard shipped one
8. Please keep your current theme, I love it!
9. For me, I like light ROMs, but also like ROMs that are completely functional out-of-the-box. This means that I really like to keep the base clean, but I also don't like to have the user add millions of .cabs to get it the way they want it
10. In case you are deciding to place opera in the ROM, I would highly NOT recommend it. It takes up about 10 MB cooked in and around 4-5MB in .cab form
That's about it,
good luck on your next release man
EDIT: Please elaborate further on this "slowing the screen rotation down too much" because I'm not having many problems with a ported XIP and SYS with the Samsung Omnia drivers, but would like to hear your input on the subject

If there is 15+ MB of program memory and 25+ MB storage memory, I would recommend trying out manila 2d. Someone post back if the memory is okay. Manila 2d works fine on mine with build 28014, so I'll post links to the cabs later. (If memory's alright.)

I don't know why you're doing this man, but it's so awesome of you.
I'm new to the whole concept, but here's what I've got, and what I think I want...
HTC Apache, bootloader 2.02, Verizon is my carrier. Wanting either WM 6.1 or 6.5 relatively pimped.
I have no idea what the Manila business is - assuming it's a suite of apps for WM devices...
I would be happy with any rom that would run on my phone and free me of this pitiful WM5 situation.
I just have NO IDEA what apps would be good/useful.
Something to clean up the file system. Some way to navigate the files better. A decent media player?
I just don't know. Something barebones would be a good start, if I can just install .cabs on my own, but I would trust you to know what apps are good to go.
Please, thank you and AWESOME.

(P.S. What's the best way to save my contacts/texts before flashing - can't get Micro$ucks activsync to work...?)

For contacts/text try PIM Backup
Manila is an interface/today screen plugin for your pocket pc. Looks like this.
I'll put cabs up later if you want it.
Damn, son, that was quick
Prompt.
Not to discourage, but what is your motivation, aside from selflessness and the desire to learn? Are you getting donations?
I've read through several of the recent threads you've contributed to, and I'm confident that you will do a smashing job, and I just don't know how to thank you enough. I saw the post with the stuff for manila. Nothing was quite self-explanatory about it.
Thanks for clarifying.
Your help is tremendously appreciated, as just about every rom I've tried to download and even most of the stuff from PPCgeeks that I think I need for the kitchen to cook my own has been DEAD.
Again, thanks a million for the upcoming rom, and the PIM backup suggestion.

I could have either not compressed it, compressed with xpr, or compressed with lzx. Lzx lets you put the most into a rom, no compression gives the most program memory. I chose xpr(mix between both). I may have tried to fit a little to much into the rom, but I think it'll be fine.

Done. Check first post.
If there is 15+ MB of program memory and 25+ MB storage memory, I would recommend trying out manila 2d. Someone post back if the memory is okay. Manila 2d works fine on mine with build 28014, so I'll post links to the cabs later. (If memory's alright.)

Yeah I have 20 MB program memory and 35 MB storage. If you could post links to some cabs that would be awesome.
Please check out this page. Extras, tweaks, skins, fixes available. Thanks to Whitealien and Mbarvian.

Or direct links for REQUIRED cabs.

Preyz Jebus!
You are SO the man.
My first flashing experience went perfectly well.
I can't thank you enough.
Smooth awesomeness.
Something happened to some of my texts during PIMbackup restore, but no big deal, my contacts are straight...
Still exploring apps and whatnot, and my SD card hasn't arrived yet, so I'm limited in what I can do so far, but I must say, it's very responsive and smooth! Such a dramatic improvement over the WM5 that was on the device when I got it.
Any advice on getting linux to boot this crazy thing?
THANK YOU!

Death of the link
Thanks for the suggestion, but the link to the image is down. I encounter that frequently with everything about this device.
I'm absolutely loving the rom you cooked for me.
Now I want to cook one up myself, definitely more of a minimal rom with less stuff I won't use.
How about the battery meter being visible somewhere?
Anyway, I'm off to get my kitchen set up... if the files are still available...
PEACE!
About the Kitchen files...
I only have limited swathes of time to d/l this stuff (no steady internet), and several of the files are quite large, especially the ones that are named for a dimensional size (480x800, 240x320, 480x640)...
So which of these are necessary, and which can I do without? Once I begin the download process, it seems to be building a text file in a temp directory, which can't be resumed if interrupted... so I'd like to limit myself to files that I need for the Apache.
Any advice on that?
I should probably be posting this somewhere else...
run updater (check start menu) and select:
240x320 oem
common oem
Then either the whole apache subdirectory, or these:
apache carriers
apache core
apache drivers
any builds you want.

I will be moving my roms over to my new site. There is a forum there for questions, or anything else. Download links to the roms will be provided there.
