Basically the problem is my Vario III doesn't see certain Sim cards but works fine with others. I thought I successfully unlocked my device but this issue really pisses me off!
Anyone any ideas???
PS: sorry if already discussed this, but me couldn't find nothing..

There is already a thread for the Kaiser SIM Unlocker, go there with this issue (I'm assuming that's what you used as you've given no real info).
Also, you really need to provide more info (as much as possible). I'd start with what Rom your running and maybe think about listing what SIMs worked & what SIMs didn't work. Take notice of things like age of the SIM card.

My dad has an At&T tilt (htc kaiser). He unlocked it and we are trying to get it to work in Israel with a cellcom sim card. The sim card in my phone is working in his phone, but the new sim he bought for his phone only works in a slvr l6 we have. On the kaiser, the sim is recognized, but it won't connect to the cellcom network (it does with my cellcom sim card). Do you think upgrading the rom would help the problem (he still has the original rom that came with it from at&t, and he has paid them and unlocked it) and if so, which ROM for the kaiser have you found to be the best for you. If I flash it, will it work fine in the US and in Israel, etc? Now that it is unlocked, is it for good even after reflashing it? If you don't think the rom is the problem, do you have any other suggestions as to why one specific sim would only work in one phone? All suggestions are welcome!!!
ok first thing the rom has nothing to do with that flashing it wont help, what you need to find out is what band that company uses and then select the ban from your phone and that will allow the phone to work if it still dont pick up ur phone wasnt unlock properly, remember it takes a little time to pic up its not as quick as the other phones. If you still choose to flash ur phone you need to read some of the threads first and make up ur mind based on the comments made. but personaly they all are good to me some have a few ups and down but nothing major or you can use the orginal rom posted by dutty a few days ago its stable.
Thanks for the response. This is the weirdest problem I have ever encountered, because my phone (an l6) uses the same sim from the same company (cellcom) and my sim card works perfectly in the kaiser. The new sim card does not work in my l6 OR his kaiser, but works in my mom's cheapie unlocked phone and another (a bit newer) l6 (same model phone!) that we have with us. So connecting to the network is not the problem, as the kaiser does that with my sim in it. But with the new sim in it, the kaiser refuses to connect to the cellcom network. I have no idea where to go from here. Why does it work in one l6 and not another? Why my old one work in my l6 AND his kaiser, but the new sim works in neither? All help is greatly appreciated!!
Yesterday I posted about the change of the IMEI on my Tilt, but it was said that even if there are two numbers more in the serial it's ok anyway, and matters only the first 15 numbers in the IMEI serial.
That's ok.
(Even if I don't understand why the moderator kyphur close that thread, as I see and read so many stupid thread from newbies asking so stupid questions without sense and clearly posted without taking a look and search in this forum before posting!!..... BTW......)
My problem is that after upgrading from Dutty's v4 to Dutty's WM6.1 Build 5.2.19716 my Tilt doesn't recognize my SIM card (and before the upgrade it did) (BESIDE checking the IMEI changed with 2 digit more)
My Tilt was legally unlocked with the AT&T code they sent me after my request.
Now I'm in Italy since 3 weeks and I was using an Italian SIM from an Italian carrier.
Before upgrading to a WM 6.1 rom (and 6.1 radio) my legally unblocked Tilt worked perfectly and so fine...
Now it doesn't see my SIM card at all... it says SIM MISSING.
I tried this same SIM in other cellulars and works fine, and I tried other different italian SIM cards in the same Tilt and they work!
Maybe my Italian SIM is, in a certain sense, not perfectly compatible with a WM 6.1 based rom?
Should I ask to the carrier to change my SIM to something different and newer?
Could be this one the problem that the Tilt doesn't recognize and see my italian SIM?
I tried to return back to a WM6 rom and radio BUT THE TILT doesn't yet recognize the SIM. (and I'm repeating that before the upgrade, till 2 days ago it was perfect!)
(....and I would not be a pain in the ass.. but everything go bad after noticing that the emei has changed... and I'm underlining this because it is important in the official process to legally unblock the Tilt from AT&T procedure)
AGAIN....
What's happening?
Any suggestions?
Could someone tell me if you encountered a problem like this before?

I know this is going to sound dumb as hell, but it worked for my brother's phone and maybe it will work for yours.
Remove the sim card and using a brand new pencil w/ new eraser, press the eraser against the brass contacts on the sim card and erase as though someone colored them all. Then reinsert sim card and see what happens. Once again, I am not saying this will work, but I am saying that my brother's blackjack lost contact with his sim card and this is what he did and everything worked again.
Just a shot in the dark, but maybe. Hope it helps and good luck.
While I have not heard of this happening to non-US SIM cards, I went through this problem with my older Cingular SIM card and my 8125.
Everything worked perfectly fine until I loaded WM6 onto the device, and then all of a sudden I needed to get a 3G SIM card from Cingular, even though the 8125 was Edge/GPRS capable only.
I would suggest getting a replacement SIM card from you Italian carrier.

Thnx P1Tater for the easy "handyman-like" suggestion.
I tried it, but it doesn't work and defenitely it's not my case.

Yes.. I'm thinking to do so.. maybe my Italian SIM card is not good after this upgrade to WM 6.1 and it's not 3G. I cannot confirm, but very probably it's like so.
I'm asking my (old and, in the same time, temporary) italian provider to change my SIM to a newer one... and then we will see what happen.
It's very strange how with WM 6 It was simply PERFECT and after this upgrade to wm6.1 the sim is not recognized.
oh... I wanna add that when I insert the AT&T SIM the Tilt regularly see it.. even if, obviously, there's no signal and no services available.
I resolved the problem getting a replacement SIM card from the Italian carrier.
SO the bottom line is that with some old SIM card upgrading to Windows Mobile 6.1 based ROM the AT&T Tilt doesn't work!
You MUST HAVE a new SIM CARD 3g capable.
i upgraded to wm 6.1 and now it says my sim is missing. it never used to do it. i have the 3g sim card. can anybody offer anything? i cant seem to find anything.
thanks!

I have the same problem before. When I upgraded to the 3.34 ROM as I post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439408
Kaiser says the sim card is missing, but I do have the sim card inside. What I been done is open the sim card door while the kaiser is power on, it will shut down by they self, then close the door. Power on again then it read my sim card. It work in my case I am not sure about yours.
I have just bought a new HTC Touch Pro, but when I inserted the SIM card, it wasn't recognised. The phone shows "No SIM". My SIM works fine on my old XDA IIi. I tried a spare old SIM card on the Touch Pro and it worked (so I did insert my SIM right).
I restarted the phone, removed the SIM card and inserted it again and again but no luck !
I noticed that the old SIM which worked with TP has a bigger yellow part (the active part whatever it's called). I don't know if this is related to the problem.
Please help !
Anyone? Please help
Solved!!
Hi, buddy!
I have a samsung captivate and I was having the same trouble.
I'm brazilian and my sister send me the phone unlocked from US.
It had been working well for 5 months.
When I changed the SIM it has began asking me for the code(??!). It was programed for not asking PIN code so I got surprised. I typed my code several times until get the phone locked.
I spent more than 2 weeks to find the solution: Galaxy S Unlock, a free program available at the Market. It's necessary to root and install Busy Box (I installed mine with Titanium Backup).
Try something close to this for your device!
I hope this can be usefull!
Hi All,
I have found myself locked out of the 3 network as my phone suddenly will no longer connect after 10 days. 3 admits that they block people from using non-3 locked phones on their network and have advised me to fork out for a 3 handset...
I have unlocked my phone (Kaiser), flashed the ROM, etc. as per the tools here, with no problems. So, my question is this:
Can I lock the phone to the 3 UK network by setting the correct code in the KaiserUnlock program to make it work again? Does anyone know what the code is?
Help with this would be much appreciated!
Sounds to me like they screen imei numbers on their network, it is possible to change ur imei but it is illegal.
i could be wrong about this, i'm not familiar with '3' but we will not be discussing the topic of changing imei numbers. If i see anything about it i will close the thread and send some people's account on vacation.
I'm not interested in changing the IMEI for obvious reasons, but trying to find out if there's another way around it.
when the first time you buy your kaiser, does your 3 works?
if you are using custom ROM now, just try go back to original ROM,.
Or try your SIMCard to another phone, to check wheter its the simcard problem,.
i am waiting for your report,.
EDIT: Have you try THIS ?
Thanks for your response.
It is originally a Vodafone v1615 (KAIS 130), now just over a year old. I have unlocked it using KaiserUnlocker.
Everything on it was working absolutely fine (phone, web, skype etc.) for 10 days, both with an official ROM and the 15+ custom one's I have tested.
To find out if it was 3 blocking my phone I tested:
1. If my 3 SIM works fine in a genuine 3 phone.
2. If another 3 SIM would work in my phone.
That all works fine, so, it must be 3 blocking my phone on their network.
I have reverted back to an official ROM as well as SPL, but still no joy....

Complain to 3 customer service?
I think (although I may be wrong) that your contract with 3 doesn't forbid you from using the SIM card in another device, so they have no right to block that device/SIM combination.
I have already spent the best part of an hour discussing this with their "customer service" department, but they are relentless. They say that their SIMs are only guaranteed to work on phones supplied by 3.
if you get desperate you may try the "hardware" unlock sim card. They are an actual sim card that you put in your phone.
Thanks for your suggestion! I didn't even know they existed......
I apologize ahead of time if this has been asked or even answered but I HAVE been researching and finding NO help in my problem.
I purchased a Straight Talk phone the other day for the SIM chip as my last resort for immediate phone service. I had been told by many people that it would be able to be slapped into my phone and I would have no problems after changing the APN settings. I set up the plan and made my account with Straight Talk and then took the Card out and put it into my device.
My device is rooted with Cyanogen Mod and has S-OFF.
I then tried to start the phone up and got a message saying "No SIM card"
I did not get prompted to enter an unlock code or anything, just the No SIM card error which also means I can't save APNs...
The SIM Card works in the phone I bought it from, which is the Motorola W418G.
Now I have no clue if I am missing something, did I mess up? Or is it that for some god awful reason that SIM chip won't work in my phone at all?
Please any information, links, replies, ANYTHING is HIGHLY appreciated and again I am sorry if this specific question has been asked and answered, I could find nothing on this specific problem and I am hoping I didn't just waste a ton of money on going back to a pretty basic flip phone...

Pretty sure you need sim from another phone, a couple years ago it was the nokia e71. But nowadays you can just order a sim from the website

I have the exact same issue as you JV. But I'm experiencing it with a Galaxy Nexus that can't recognize the SIM card that was bought with a Samsung SGH-T528G. The SIM card work fine in the T528G but not in Galaxy Nexus and also not in my wife's previous flip-phone. I have a T-Mobile SIM card that works fine in the Galaxy Nexus and in the flip-phone. And yes, the Nexus is running stock, non-rooted and unlocked (from the Play store).
I'm curious - did you figure out the issue? Any solution for your phone might work for mine... Thanks in advance!

You have to cut the sim for micro sim devices to use T-Mo with ST. At least for now. HTH.
