neither of the 2 suggestions above work.
O2 say the Comm Manager button and the Voice Dial button.
What is the Comm Manager button?
Steve

Are you following this process exactly?
1.Press and hold the GPS/MESSAGING and INTERNET EXPLORER
buttons, and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET
button at the bottom of your device.
2. Release the RESET button, but
continue pressing the GPS/
MESSAGING and INTERNET
EXPLORER buttons until you
see this message on the
screen:
This operation will delete
all your personal data,
and reset all settings
to manufacturer default.
Press Send to restore
manufacturer default, or
press other keys to cancel.
Click to collapse
3. Release the buttons, and then press SEND on your device to perform
the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.

DaveShaw thanks for putting it simple

I am still having a problem with doing a hard reset. I am holding down the ok and the windows buttons and they are not showing me the message. Just getting the password is not correct please put in the following code and not able to use the touch screen may cause a problem?

Hard Reset:
On the 02 Orbit2, make sure the phone is powered on and then press AND HOLD the Windows and OK buttons down at the same time, THEN use your stylus to press AND RELEASE the reset button (while you CONTINUE to hold down the Windows and OK buttons). You should get a grey-ish/white screen explaining how to complete the hard reset or how to cancel the operation.
If you cannot see anything on your screen due to the OS being totally messed up (in other words, as long as it's not hardware failure), then you need to put your device into bootloader mode (4-color screen) so that you can flash the ROM (either what you already are using, or a newly cooked one - either way you need to have a ROM image file on your computer to complete the flashing process).
Bootloader Mode:
To enter bootloader mode, press AND HOLD the camera button and then press AND RELEASE the soft reset with your stylus. When the screen is showing the 4 color bands, plug in the USB cable between your computer and phone flash the ROM.

Soft reset software button?

Does anyone know if there is a software soft reset button for the HD2?
Can't get the Slide2Shutdown program to work, and I used that with my X1 to soft reset.
Not that I need it much, but it's nice to have after installing or uninstalling a program.
Try TouchOff. It works on my HD2
XDA Shutdown.
I actually installed the 12 button action screen on my Leo and create a shortcut on programs folder.
Then add the icon in the quick launch programs tab in the HTC sense and run it.
Running great so far.
here's a simple softreset app
drop the exe in /windows

The little red button next the microsd slot, you need to remove the battery cover, it's explain in the manual
He's looking for a software soft Reset
There's one in the Sense 2.5 tweaks and mods, stuck at the top of this very forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584415
You need "Touch X reset and wifi". It creates 2 shortcuts in your start menu. 1 toggles WiFi on and off, and the other performs a soft reset. I've got them both in my quick links on the home page.
I prefer something called Power Options (here on xda)
the icons aren't that beautiful, but it does what its supposed to

Ok sorry but why "software reset button" ?
Is it possible to ad a "soft reset" option when u hold End Key? Or if i install some of the shutdown apps, is it possible to assign that to endkey and deactivate the orginal popuplist?
I want to softreset without clicking on a shortcut
If HTC hides the softreset button under the shell, why don't they ad a function in Windows !

So now I know how to software soft reset as well as soft reset. All I need now is to know what both of them do . What on earth is the difference?
Guys, what is the difference between the two resets please?

The difference is in the name.
Soft reset is done by pressing the red button inside the back.
Software soft reset is a software option that does the same, like the reset shortcut in the tweaks sticky post.
Hello,
I use MySoftReset No Warning from this thread, Would it be possible to place in the quicklist from the HD2 as on my picture. That would be very useful.

No. .. this is what you quoted Softreset, would be in this link: HTC HD2 hard reset
HTC HD2 hard reset
If a normal reset does not solve a system problem, you can perform a factory reset. After a factory reset, the phone is restored to its default settings—the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it on. You will lose any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on your phone, and only Windows Mobile software and other pre-installed programs will remain.
There are two ways to do a factory reset. One way is perform a clear storage process through the phone settings. The other way is to perform a hard reset by pressing certain buttons on your phone, in cases when you are unable to start up your phone and enter the phone settings.
Warning! Your phone will be set back to factory default settings. Make sure that any additional installed programs and important data on your phone have been backed up before you perform a factory reset.
Important If Encrypt files when placed on a storage card is enabled, back up all files from the storage card before performing a factory reset (Clear Storage or hard reset) or updating the operating system. Otherwise, you will no longer be able to access the encrypted files on the storage card. Use ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center to transfer files between your storage card and computer. After the procedure, copy your files back to the storage card.
To perform a HTC HD2 Leo hard reset with buttons
1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then press the END/POWER button shortly and release it. You will then see this message on the screen.

}
2. Release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
3. Press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
To perform a clear storage
1. On the Home screen, slide to the Settings tab and then tap Security > Factory reset.
2. Enter “1234 ” and then tap Yes.

It adds a text box that says "safe mode" in to the left bottom corner, havent figured out yet what it really does. exept this.

How can I enter safe mode?
In order to enter safe mode, please turn off the phone. Then briefly press the Power button to turn on the phone. While the phone powers on, press and hold the Volume down button until phone loads the OS and "Safe Mode" should appear on the lower left part of the screen
NOTE 1: If the process does not allow you to enter safe mode, kindly remove the back cover, remove the battery and then place it back in.
NOTE 2: Safe mode is a way wherein you can view built-in applications without hard-resetting the phone.

I still don't really get the point of this functionality...
Haha i understand why the stupid Windoze has it - cause its a stupid OS. But why on earth did they put safe mode on android????
Maybe it has something to do with the contract that htc has with microsoft about the "flagship phones must come out with windows os first"..
Hmmm maybe we are running Sense windows and not android... Thats why they locked the bootloader, so we will never find out by trying to install Android...
Wouldnt that be weird haha.
P.s. - im joking.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk
This mode is in case you have some problems with your downloaded apps that prevent phone from functioning normally. From here, phone only loads OS and apps that were pre-installed form the factory so you can un-install troubled items and/or use your phone without doing full factory reset.
my sensation stuck in safe mode...
try 1, 2 , 3 ROMS and its the same thing...
It is that the ROMs is not suported for my device!?
Any ideas?

That is actually an Atrix 2, known as MB865. You should check/ask on that device's forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1373
One thing you should definitely do is charge the battery: if you don't you'll not be able to do any flashing operations.
After you do that you should just wipe the user data through recovery. You should be able to do that once you have enough battery charge on the phone.
Just follow the procedure:
Power off the phone.
NOTE: If unable to power off, remove and reinsert the battery.
Press and hold the Volume Up + Volume Down and the Power button.
The screen displays Boot Mode Selection Menu; press volume down key to cycle through choices until Android Recovery is viewed. Press the Volume Up key to boot in this mode.
Wait for the triangle ! / Android screen to display, then proceed to step 5.
Press both Volume up and Volume down key simultaneously. A recovery menu displays.
Tap on Volume Down key until Wipe data/factory reset is highlighted, and tap the Power button.
Another confirmation screen displays. Tap the Volume Down key until Yes displays, then tap the Power button.
After user data is cleared, the reboot system now option is highlighted by default. Tap the Power button.
The phone reboots to the initial setup screen.

This guy ^ is definitely right, you need to charge that battery. A factory reset will fix ya up afterwards. You DO NOT want to factory reset on a low battery Charge it first.
Step one:
You can charge your battery by using the method above or by using the "MacGuyver Method" it's scary, but many have had luck with it: See HERE.
Step two:
Once that is done, hop into recovery. What you're doing will put you into fastboot every time. Follow this method to get into recovery: Phone off. Hold down BOTH volume buttons and then press and hold the power button. You should get a menu at that point. Use the down volume button to move and the up volume button to select "recovery". Then while in recovery select "factory reset", let it do it's thing then select reboot. You should be good to go at that point.
This is all assuming that the systemUI isn't Borked somehow.

[Q] HTC 8X A&T semi-"bricked" - details - help?

Boy, I've read a ton about this issue and no one seems to be able to solve this exact problem.
Got my hands on an HTC 8X which, if left to run normally, just hangs on the at&t logo screen.

And before you say anything, no, the hard reset doesn't work, because using the initial volume down/power procedure reboots the phone...the hard reset must be done from "off," not reboot. Plus, if the battery runs out entirely, the device will just enter the reboot cycle again when recharged. Just like the issue discussed here -> http://www.brighthand.com/default.asp?newsID=19892&news=windows+phone+8+bricked+htc+8x+nokia+lumia+920+microsoft+bricking
Now, I can reliably get the device to either the "flash settings" static screen, like this, almost every time I try doing volume up keypresses from boot:
...OR I can get it to the root system info screen, like this, almost every time I do some multiple volume down keypresses interspersed with an up keypress at boot, while connected to my computer via USB [if I disconnect, the screen changes to "serial"]:
However, I can't figure out how to bring it back from the dead.
Note that I am not a ROM cook and don't even own a Y-cable, so be gentle if you're going to talk about anything along those lines. However, any advice that isn't related to the hard reset? If so, thanks. If not, at least I've documented this specific "semi-bricked" state on here.
I know you don't want any advice related to the hard-reset method, but I am curious if you tried the following:
1. Run the phone down until the batter is 100% dead. (unresponsive when you hit the power switch.
2. While plugging in the power cable, press and hold the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons, Release them when you see an icon on the screen.
3. Then press the following hardware buttons in this sequence: VOLUME UP > VOLUME DOWN > POWER > VOLUME DOWN.
Let me know how you make out.

Yep, I absolutely did that, but thanks. Did not work. Would only reboot the phone and lock it on the at&t screen again.
Sounds like no one can help here.
Without an At&t stock ROM, it will be tough to fix this.
What did you end up doing with your phone? Any luck?
Got the same problem on my HTC 8X AT&T. Got a RMA setup with HTC. What did you do?
