Hello! I'm new here and really need some help.
This is my second time flashing and i successfully flashed the new dutty's 6.1 wm rom onto my phone. I used sprite backup to back up my data and everything was going great but....
whenever i go into my sms inbox or gmail inbox a message pops up saying:
"Company policies regarding messaging services have changed:
- Use of text messaging is prohibited
-Use of internet e-mail is prohibited"
my SMS and Email have been locked for some reason and I don't know why.
There is a message in both saying
Account Locked
Company policy prohibits use of text messaging on this device
You cannot send or receive text messages.
this happeneds even without connecting to active sync
So i tried hard resetting and texting works fine if i don't back up my data. So obviously something goes wrong after i try to back it up... but i don't know what or why. help please!
i definatly don't want to reinstall everything since i didn't save any of the cabs. =(
thank you!
not one suggestion?
If you are backing up data from one rom, flashing a new rom and then trying to restore the previous backup, that will cause big problems, different roms have different registry entries etc etc etc. You can restore your PIM information usually but nothing else, you need to reinstall all your apps etc.
yeah... after backing up individual things i found out that it's problems with the registry. thanks for the info though... looks like i'll have fun redownloading everything. =)
by the way does anybody know how to repair it ?
If its just your sms emails and contacts that you want to restore then you could flash your old rom back, restore the sprite backup and backup the data with pim backup.
then flash back to the new rom and restore with pim backup.
I had exactly the same problem when I went to WM6.1 & tried to restore a backup. Keep your CABs on the Storage Card if you can!

I need help urgently with my O2 XDAII.. i was loading a task manager prg after downloading the same.. http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/wisbar/download.html
(WisBar is the leading task management software(skinable) for the PocketPC.)
Just after running the program for the first time the PPC hardset itself wiping out all my data. When I restored from the back up file ..
I have three problems of very serious nature...!!!!!
1) When i did resotre from the back up file... it wont pick up the time and date and also still connects as GUEST and not with original profile. SO I am unable to syncronise the data.
2) It wont send/ receive SMS
3) The SMS inbox is all messed up... the sent items are in "deleted item folder" the received sms are in outbox folder... and i cant delet /move a single sms from any of the folders.
I tried to use file manager and deleting files from windows\ Messaging but it did not help at all. I tried delting files from windows..and i could not do that as i was getting messages which i cant understand.
Rest all programs are running fine without any aparant problems...
Can some one help me restore my handset...please....???

Hello,
First of all, I'm not sure what's causing your device to Hardreset by using Wisbar, I have mine working perfectly. :?
What backup software are you using?
If using the pre-installed one you are bound to have some problems.
In my opinion, the best backup solution is Sprite Backup (not a free application but a great one).
I used to have the same restore problems with the included backup solution on my MDA (besides the backups where not compressed and it was not a selective backup/restore).
Next time try Sprite's Backup.
Google it!
As far as the active sync profile is concerned - simple delete the original profile on your pc and allow it to create a new one when you next connect. It will then sync all your data back again.
guys, have flashed my JAM yesterday to Magician ROM v1.12.00 and restored an old backup (by sprite backup).
guess what? have noticed only today that I do not have any text messaging. only MMS, outlook and my ex-pop accounts, but no text messages account at all!
I did not install anything form the ext-rom of this version (soft reset after flashing was complete)
this post is also availabe in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=23288&start=50
but I decided to post it here as well as I asume it suits this thread more.
any suggestions?
1. Hard reset.
2. Launch Sprite Backup (or self-executing restoration archive, whichever you made)
3. Select everything to restore EXCEPT Text Messages.
4. Restore.
BeyondtheTech
thanks. was thinking of doing so, but also not to restore the registry settings but have justr upgraded to big storage and have to install everything manually.
I had the same problem but after hard resetting and restoring for a second time my txt messages came up again nicely

hi, is there any possibility to make complete backup of the phone (ROM + programs + contacts + messages...) and later complete restore ?
just like on PC with Norton Ghost or any other tool.
thx for your answers.
SPB Clone will do it... if you want to pay $299 for it. PM me for more info.
my answer may be bias as i have not tried any other apps for this (like spb clone etc..) but sprite back up is the sh#t. it does ghost your phone. if you get a new phone, just hit restore and you are right back were you left off on the old.
FYI - If you use sprite and your phone has web Imap accounts, remove the accounts before you do a back up. when you restore a sprite backup with existing email accounts it creates "ghost accounts" that show in tf3d but around really there and cant be removed.
so back up without the accounts so you can save your txts. then restore and re add email.

Yea I agree, Sprite is great. I've only had one problem with it so far: I installed the Rhodium TF3d which messed with some certs and decided I didn't like it. So I performed a full restore and it couldn't restore some dll's; I had to hard reset. Other than that, Sprite has been real good for my other restores.
I updated my FUZE to the new ROM. Before doing that I used Sprite to backup everything except for System Data (and my memory card).
After the update I used Sprite to restore everything. Among that was the contents of my imap email account. However when I went into the Inbox, there was no email account so I could not open or access of the old messages that I can scroll through on the email page. I tried to create an email account but it told me there was already an account with that name (it seems like there is, but I can't access it).
I did a master reboot to clear everything out and before I restored from Sprite, I created the email account again. But when I did the restore, the same thing happened as before.
I know I can deselect email in the restore options but doing that means that it doesn't restore any SMS/MMS messages which I want.
Where is the email account data? Somewhere in the registry? If so, where? After I do a restore, would it be safe for me to find that account data and delete it so I can create it for real? I don't want to keep any of that old email.
Thanks.
Well here's what you should do. Restore your Sprite backup.
Download and install "PIMBackup" and do a full backup with it.
Go into the registry and delete the email account from HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Inbox
Reboot
Check your Message app to see if the email account is gone. Set it back up.
Restore your stuff from PIMBackup. Ditch Sprite
Sprite backups are great but restore lots of stuff. Sprite has the ability to restore bugs and bad registry keys. PIMBackup JUST backs up the information therefore it is the best and even works across multiple flashes without screwing anything up. I actually set up an XML file to load on first boot using UC (most custom roms use this) that sets up my Email account automatically, then a simple PIMBackup restores everything back.

Maybe a little excessive! but Player is right, Sprite is no good for restoring after flashing a new rom (use pimbackup).
Sprite is great for backing everything up, hard reset, restore - exactly the same so its great for trying new settings, software etc etc.
I didn't want to confuse anything here but I actually did use PIM (I've used it for regular backups and migration for over a year). I used it before using Sprite. But after doing a restore, my device became EXTREMELY slow, to the point where it took roughly 5-10 seconds to open up a single txt msg. So I did a master reset and then did a restore from Sprite (which is what brought me here).
If I restore from Sprite again (and it will give me that phantom email again), think I can just delete the reg key? Would it delete the contents of this invisible Inbox? Should it have any negative effects?
Thanks.
Can you delete the reg key - yep!
will this remove the contents of the ghost account - i dont think so, but the account wont exist, so you shouldnt be able to get to these messages
Any negative effects? - almost certainly! but not from removing the spurious reg key. Using sprite to backup, then changing the rom, then restoring sprite will almost always leave some annoying, odd or unusual behaviour. Simply because when you changed the rom, you changed (a few) what reg keys are required and what they are called (mail accounts generate a unique guid when you create them, which is where the ghost account has probably come from)
Restoring a pim backup avoids this, as it simply puts the database info back on - leaving windows to worry about reg keys etc - i'm not sure why it was so slow before, maybe trying again & a couple of soft reboots could help - or maybe the pim backup is screwy, try making a new one.
Good luck!
FWIW, when I updated the ROM I did as the HTC website instructions say and did not choose to backup any system data in Sprite (they say this avoids copying the registry).
So anyway, what will delete the contents of the ghost account?
Or maybe I'm thinking about this the wrong way - maybe instead of deleting the contents of that ghost account, would I be able to create a new account through the registry? Or rename a (real/functional) account in the registry? (when I have the ghost account and try to create an account with the same name normally, it tells me the account exists...even though it kinda doesn't)
I think the problem I am having with PIM seems to be too many message. I say this because the number of messages goes up for a long time and that's when it takes forever to load messages. I found that it settles down after a few hours but even then it still takes about 2-3 seconds to open a single txt msg.
Thanks.
Hi Gang,
Just looking for general advice and ideas regarding any solution to this puzzle!
Scenario:
Dell Streak 5, Android 2.2.2, GAUSB1A135100-EU
I've been using Titanium Backup Pro to keep regular backups of the data and apps on it.
Couple of weeks now Android Market was not allowing updates to run, giving the "101 error" etc that other people have posted. Most common solution to this seems to have been do a factory reset, to wipe off the linked gmail account, and recreate to get Market running again.
So I did a TB full backup, factory reset, and recreated my gmail account, and market is back up and running, and now updating the 20+ apps fine.
Problem: My Call Logs, Contacts and Messaging is still wiped, even after I have restore all my data and apps from Titanium Backup.
No, I did not have my contacts, etc synced to gmail, because I don't really use it that much and was concerned about privacy issues.
The question I have is this: Did the full data and app backup I performed on Titanium Backup backup my Contacts and SMS/MMS/Messages? If yes, then why will they not restore? If no, then is there any way to recover or locate them?
I'd like to recover my Messaging section most of all, if possible!
Many thanks, in advance.
WB
If I'm not mistaken, the SMS messages are under the TB entry named "[SMS/MMS/APN] Mobile Network Configuration" Try double checking you restored the backup for that.

No the data and app backup did not back those up.
@JMC: Thanks for the reply; yeah I've tried doing a restore on any item relating to Contacts, Messaging, SMS/MMS that is coming up in the Restore list under TB, all of which appear as Green items and sometimes with the [] at the start as you indicated.
Unfortunately, none seem to be restoring the messages etc. I've even looked on the microSD card to see if the TB backup files are empty, and they appear to be healthy sizes, so there must be "something" backed up in them....
@Zelendel: Thanks; well if what you say is true, then that is a damn shame. I figured TB would do a more complete job of backing everything up like it promises... bad assumption on my part if you're sure of your information.
I guess I'll see if anyone has a contradicting opinion, and the move on.
I wonder if you have any recommendations on how to backup that stuff for future adventures? Thinking of syncing Outlook with Gmail and then syncing the Streak with Gmail from now on.... mind you that won't secure SMS/MMS correspondence, just my issue of Contacts!
Titanium Backup will backup everything, but you have to make sure you have it backing up system app data if too, because the messaging app for texting is a system app. Regular app and data backup does not backup any system apps. You just have to be careful when restoring system app data. I tried restoring gmail settings to a newer version of gmail and I caused syncing to completely stop working. I haven't had any problems restoring SMS/MMS though.

Yes as stated above. Messaging is a system app so it your backing up user apps and data then it will not back up your messages. Then you get into the issue that unless you flash the excat same rom it is never advised to restore system data of any kind as there could be big changes that restoring system data breaks. I would use a 3rd party app to back it up.
LAst time i backed up all my messages call logs and contacts, was using an app called super backup. Havent found anything wrong with it. Forgot which folder it stores the files in, but after i did factory reset and downloaded the app again, i was able to restore everything. Hope it helps

Hi @WikedBlade!
I realise its probably too late to b answering ur q. But perhaps this cud b of help to u in the future:
TB does backup cal logs, contacts, n msgs if u choose to backup sys data. And generally, after doing a restore u need to reboot ur fone for the data to b back again.
It's that simple . And do remember nvr to use backup n restore of sys data unless u r going to b using the exact same ROM b4 n after!
greatttt... thxxx totally helped me out in this matter

Then it isn't advisable to restore system data from TB as
it can cause sync issues or even break certain system functionalities.
So, in the case that you're planning to use a different ROM, I'd recommend that you backup your call logs, messages on this app called SMS Backup & Restore by Carbonite. Thru this you can restore on any ROM thereafter.
