Dutty 6.1 and GPS - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

Ok sorry one more question, I am 99.99% sure I have GPS with this ROM but I cant find it in the communications menu. Do I have to stick another piece of software on, or is their something obvious I am missing.
Also Google maps, or windows?

First of all, if you need help with ROM release, post your concern in appropriate release thread (less clutter that way). Second, no ROM releases, AFAIK, include GPS Navigation software. You can search for the Tomtom Taster edition version in this forum or you can buy Tomtom or other 3rd party Navigation software or you can use Google Maps or Windows Live or you can use Telenav (paid subscription).

IGuidance V4 and Dutty 6.1 RTM

I don't know how many people out there use IGuidance, but I do. I LOVE IT. The only problem is I just paid for the new version of IGuidance ( V4.0 ) and am experiancing a lot of problems. First off, the biggest problem is how SLOW it is. I can start it up fine, and get a fix no problem. The SLOWNESS comes when i start driving. It just freezes up, until i come to a stop and then 5 seconds later it will update with the spot and tell me what to do from there.
My old IGuidance V3.04 would show me driving, give me my speed, and give me up-to-date information on when i would need to be turning.
Now, I thought it was my bluetooth slowing it down; cause i use my bluetooth to listen to the voice prompts, but turning that off did nothing for me. STILL SLOW.
I don't know if anyone else is experiancing this. Is this just a dutty 6.1 RTM problem or is this a IGuidance V4 problem? I hope its just the RTM, because I PAID FOR THE IGuidance! Please help me.
Wow, soo no-one knows the fix for this? Anyone tried IGuidance V4 on an earlier build?
i just finished installing iGuidance V4 on my phone (which has Dutty's 6.1), and am going to be using it tonight. I will post my results on how well it is working etc... when i get a chance. Which radio version are you using. Changing radios may help the problem...
it seems as though a lot of people use TomTom so maybe that's why you aren't getting very much response...
i did use iGuidance V4 on an earlier version of Dutty's WM6. It worked perfectly. Although a lot of people have reported problems with GPS and WM6.1
check out this threat first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368373&highlight=iguidance
I have iGuidance 4.0. I had the exact problem with other ROMs, but not with Dutty's 6.1 (5.2.19199).
My radio: 16.54.06.04
If you have S2A, disable that program. Lastly, set your Power and don't let it goes to suspend or turn if the device if not used in X minute.
If that doesn't work, try a different ROM. if it doesn't work, I am out of idea. Sorry...
It's the 6.1 rom, I had this with Sleuths 6.1 rom as well, stepped back to a 6.0 rom and iG4 works great.
I'm gonig to try this on Dutty's new 6.1 hopefully it will fix things.
Off Topic and I apologize, but this weekend I was about to drop $150 to buy tomtom, ditching Telenav which ATT gave me. But I noticed iGuidance is $109; Which would you prefer, TomTom or iGuidance? I've tried Google Maps and Windows Live, they can be used under certain circumstances, but I need something similar, or preferably, better than Telenav which I'm used to using currently.
Also, did you see this on their website?
"*** Note: v4 has conflict w/ ATT 8925 gprs. Need to turn gprs off until iGuidance is launched."
Iguidance has TTS. The poi searching is disappointing at best.

that has actually ALWAYS been a problem even with the 8525. But, alas, it doesn't help us at all with our 8925. Has anyone tried using dutty's new release as of the 20th? I'm installing now and will give feedback.

iNav is quite good, even with the minor bug of having to stop any active data connection before starting. For your $109 you get the PPC, Plus PC, Plus UMPC versions of the program on the DVD which is nice if you play with laptops or tablets. The TTS street names is nice and the general product is well above average. I own 5 nav progs tom tom included, and prefer iG4 personally.
As one of Dutty's beta testers, I can verify that if you follow the directions I link to in the thread below that iGuidance will work properly. Again, this is not related to Dutty's rom, but rather 6.1 in general.

Seems Telenav has TTS, and Points of Interest, etc. and checks for traffic and doesn't have a problem starting up with the net connection active, actually its required; so the only REAL issue with TeleNav is its dependency on the Internet? I like that IG4 includes SW for the Laptop as well, that would be kewl. Points of Interest doesn't concern me too much. Oh well, sorry to stay off topic. But I was just trying to figure out where to spend my hard earned money. I'm just wondering why I should leave TeleNav, but I guess the internet thing is a big deal.
use GPSgate
I have iguidance v4 for a few months. yes, i have very similar problem and the workaround is to use GPSgate. you have to google for it. Download the trial version and launch gpsgate prior iguidance. it should fix your problem.
I love my iGuidance V4... The POI in my area are perfect. Took me a bit of time switching from Garmin to iNav... but anyways... The only 6.1 Rom that I've had no problems at all with iGuidance is "The end is nigh DeathV2" w/ Radio 1.65.20.29
I used Joe1981AL method and it works. No need for GPS gate. Just run mr_magoo script.

TomTom 7 ?

Does anybody know if the PPC version of TomTom 7 will goes out ?
Following some information's I've read, TomTom will not sell this version "in the box" but some company may deliver a v7 version with their device.
Also read that HTC will deliver this with the Diamond.
Thx in advance for your feedback.

According to Tomtom, the availability of version 7 is unknow.
However, some people have ripped the HTC Diamond version which is illegal and no new maps are available that works with the ripped version although some people claims that the maps of release 6.75 works but they are out off date. Conclusion: May be that you can get an illegal version of Tomtom 7, but it will not support the latest maps.
Therefore, if you want navigation with the latest maps consider to use IGO8.

No you cant. But why do you want to keep version 6? Version 7 works better, works with newer maps... why keep with the old stuff?
I have TT6 running WE 6.75 and use a lot, so am more than interested in upgrading.
3 Qs
1. What are the new features of TT7? Is it worth it? Is it really faster? One feature I would really like in particular: does TT7 have the ability to give a voice warning of being over the speed limit?
2. Do we ever expect TT to release this formally for PDAs?
3. Do you also need to update TomTom Home to 2.x? (TT6 only worked with TT Home 1.x).
Thanks
Q1: you can give a sound to warning over speed so i guess a voice too.
Q2&Q3 dont know

Hi,
I have it running on the poor mans Polaris (Artemis) and it works just as well as TT6.
1. The new features I have noticed are
i You can now disable auto zoom, so you can set a zoom level you like and it won't change.
ii You can set a warning both for going over the speed limit or for a speed defined by you.
iii You can change the pointer to your car of choice.
iv It displays the road you are on as well as the next road when following a route.
v the speed warning is now red background with white text so is easier to read (was red on blue before).
vi Has access to MapShare (I can't get this to work as I have it installed purely on my SD card but other forum users report it works).
2. No idea.
3. You need to use TT Home ver 2.3
Overall it is not a major improvement on TT6 but there are a few bits. Due to the size of its installation (over 12mb) I can't fit it on my device storage but it runs fine on the SD card. However, this does prevent it from connecting to TT Home. However, I intend to change my Artemis for a MDA Compact IV or an Orbit 2 so that problem should be easy to fix.
Regards
Thanks spangelsaregreat and le poulpe for replies.
As I use mine in my pocket via earplugs on my motorbike, and hence never look at the screen (and hence my interest in voice/audio features) it doesn't look like there is much more in TT7, except of course the speed warning.
just tested tomtom v7.450.9028 on my polaris with tt7.20 and tt7.15 maps. it works great and even faster then tomtom6

i am tired of trying to make tomtom work on my samsung jack. there must be a navigation software that is made for smartphones?!?!

Sorry to say, I have yet to get Garmin, TomTom, Route 66, and a few others to work, but I am going to try again now that I have unlocked it and will let you know how that goes.
On that note Google and Windows live do work as well as GPSed (which didn't find gps before unlocking, needs data to check subscription I think otherwise no data, but no maps either) work, but with a data plan.

Samsung i617 GPS working
Unfortunately I lost my Excalibur...
I bought a Samsung i617... just to have sth. similar but cheaper than my Excalibur.
Manual and seller said it had no gps features, but accidentally found a forum saying it has... and should be activated with the proper software.
I downloaded Garmin XT for WM, and followed instructions from a tutorial (google "i617" and "Gps" "activation"), most of the hits have links to download the right apps.

Your sense =/= sense
Because on this phone Bluetooth is not working and I want to use tomtom navigator. Thats why I want to delete Android and punt WM 6.5 in it.

Copilot live works good.
iGO
There is also iGO 8. I just installed it lastnight and it looks like its going to run very well. Search around, the files are out there in Google-land.
Google Maps (as of Android 1.6) already has navigation but you have to be online for it obviously. I don't think there's enough memory short of the SD card to store a complete mapping solution. And Google Map's API Licensing restriction prevents 3rd party apps/devices to provide turn-by-turn direction via the phone.
android is the greatest OS for a phone, ever
windows mobile is one of the worst mobile OS's ever..
use ndrive, its an amazing software.
igo8 is okay, not to my liking though
sygic is great but seems a little sluggish, and its more geared towards europeans rather than north americans
copilot is suposed to be a good one, i havnt tried it though
WinMo?
This is definitely the first I've seen of this request... WinMo users are scrambling to get Android on their phones... but never to get rid of Android... lol. I definitely agree that flushing the phone would get the same thing done though. As far as GPS navigation I use Google. 4.0 works great for me! But then again, I'm in the US. I think there is a way to activate international functionality on Google Maps but I don't know.
it's for a collegue of mine, I have an Diamond2, of which I'm very happy with.
But she bought this phone to have navigation (offline). But after buying she realised there is no tomtom for Android yet, so my idea was to install a new rom with WM.
I will look for these programs, and test them offline. So there is no map i can install on a SD and navigate with the internal GPS? Because she doesn't have internet on her device.

The problem with that idea is that Windows Mobile is only software, there's next to no chance that said WinMo Rom is gona have the driver support for all the hardware used in the android intended device which could leave you back to square one if you ever managed it but still couldn't hook up the tomtom, nor able to utilize the SD card for storage.
Also since WinMo is not open source, chances of making drivers for it is much harder than someone making drivers for android given the source.

yea exactly, its very hard to use windows mobile on a device thats not meant for it
whereas its much easier to port android into a different device due to open source (android on the samsung i900 omnia for example)

[+++WARNING+++] CoPilot and HD2. [+++WARNING+++]

I hate to have to make such a thread, but ALK (the company that makes CoPilot) has informed me of something that they have neglected to mention to anyone purchasing CoPilot Live 8 for their HD2.
The HD2 specific version of CoPilot does NOT bring the map updates that CoPilot advertises
They mentioned that while they have come out with updates for their maps it's only for the REGULAR version of CoPilot. For now, the HD2 version (which I'm sure all HD2 users have purchased) does NOT come with this. So what does this mean? You would have to reinstall your CoPilot program as a normal GPS program. Meaning it would not function with NaviPanel and other HD2 specific software. They are not saying WHEN or even IF they will come out with the updates for the HD2 maps, but in my opinion it's not worth purchasing now until it's fully compatible.
In my own experience. I can't say I like it simply because the maps and searches that I've done (on Live Search for CoPilot) are WAAAAAY out of date. I was looking for a specific hospital when their "live search" gave me an address of where the hospital was almost 12 years ago. Not good and NO excuse for such lack of maintenance. I'll leave it up to people here to decide if they want to buy it or not.
Timely but a shame. I was about to buy this as I've got the UK Tmobile HD2 just this week and it hasn't got CoPilot on it at all. I thought I could get the HD2 version from ALK's website (I think I'd save a tenner) but now maybe I need to buy the full blown version. Are CoPilot's versions of maps easy to identify?
Well, I don´t use the Navipanel since it´s a pain ita to change the backcover everytime for the car-cradle, I´m better off with the Brodit-car-cradle.
I made some fuzz at ALK-Europe for the map-update (I bought the HD2-version in Dec. 2009) and they sent me the original Copilot8 cab for install on SDcard without charge. Now I run the regular version and have no update problem with the maps AND copilot doesn´t eat up my valuable Storage mem.
That's why I'm using the regular version of Copilot on my HD2.
And it works fine.
I indeed remember that when I tried Copilot special HD2 version (trial included in my original ROM) most of the maps were out of date and wrong.
I can't see any point is using the HD2 version, the regular is fine!
I bought cp 8 when It came out, before I even had a HD2, (but was using the test roms)
navipanel seems a gimmick to me, something that I tried once and never bothered with again.
Where are the maps located? In the Copilot folder, right ?
So why not download the regular Copilot version (2577 + Copilot) and then replace just the 2577 folder with the one dedicated to the HD2 (downloaded separately).
Just a suggestion. Could this possibly solve your problems?
@Phenomenon - can you tell me what version of Copilot you mean as a standard version? I'm using ver. 8.0.0.659 -
thanks
Where can I download the generic version of CoPilot? I'm hoping to free some memory, try out the newer maps and upload my tracks with CP Central. It's not that there's much difference between the 2 applications!

Mmm. It occurred to me too but I can't find it. I can download the HD2 version but not the generic. For the former I was sent a link to the full version and just have to enter my details and download the maps etc. that I bought. Getting the HD2 trial is easy too but I cannot find the other anywhere.
ALK have supplied the links to the generic version of CoPilot, together with instructions as to how to install both versions from scratch. They were very quick to reply. I still can't find a link on the website.
Does anyone who has tried the generic version know whether it is necessary to de-register the installed version before trying the device-independent application when re-installing to the same device?
iGO8 people, iGO8!!
I bought the CoPilot 8 Live for my Touch Pro and then changed to the HD2.
But, after I installed the regular CP8 I downloaded the HD2 update software "found link with google in UK" and installed, I have the HD2 version and I do get the map updates...
This does work fine as I've performed the same thing above several times while upgrading roms.
On another note, the website says you can't switch your license to Android from another OS ie: Windows Mobile.. but I'm going to try to deactivate my license on CP8 in Win Mob and reactivate in Android...who knows hopefully it will work...

I'm sure that the web site said it was alright to move between WM and Android when I bought CP8 some months ago. Moving to an iPhone was not possible. I'll see if I can find the page in my archive. I can't believe that I misread it. I think the text is ambiguous now but I'm fairly certain it has changed as well.
You might try contacting ALK and see what they have to say.
