On my old 8525 I had a small application that mapped to a hardware key that would turn of the screen only. I used this specificaly for TomTom 6 so that screen could be turned off to save battery for longer routes. I am trying to find a similar application that will work on the 8925.
Previously, I had Spb Pocket Plus, which had that feature, but I don't intend to install that yet. Is there anything else that will actually work? I tried PxshutXP and it doesn't turn the screen off when TT6 is running.

Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a screen lock for Tomtom software. I have the polaris running V7 of tomtom. The problem is I use it with the motorbike and earpiece.
So basically I set the destination, drop it in my pockets and listen for directions however the screen needs to be active. If it looses focus or the screen goes blank then directions updates stop. Otherwise the screen keeps getting pressed while riding so directions get interrupted.
Anyway I can get around this. tom tom screen lock would be great.
Hi Dusty, I'm a biker too so I already faced (and solved) that!
There are two problems using TomTom as we need to use:
1. if Polaris goes in sleep mode (blank screen), TomTom looses focus and stops working;
2. random screen taps (typically wen you store your PDA in a pocket) can of course modify/interrupts itineraries.
To solve both of them, I suggest you not to use any third parties' screen lock.
Just do as follows:
set your battery saver off (so your Polaris never get sleep);
launch TomTom and choose your destination;
go back to WM without quitting TomTom (you can easily do that setting one of the hw buttons to launch "Today" screen);
use stock WM screen lock
enjoy your ride
Hi
Could you, please, explain what is "stock WM screen lock" exactly?
Does it a 3rd party application itself?
I have TomTom V6. I stops to respond when it goes to the system tray, which means that the trick with "Today" is not good enough for TT V6.
Regards.
PS. Correction: I was wrong, TomTom V6 works when in the system tray
The stock WM screen locker is an utility I've found preloaded on my Polaris so I do believe is a standard WM tool (see first picture, it's the red rounded icon).
I also have TT6 (see second picture) and it continues to work fine when I press the Hw button that brings me to "Today" (I assigned the "explorer" button, but you can configure any other Hw command).
Thank you very much, deepblue68
I was wrong, your advise works fine!
Best regards!
Hmmm
I think the key is disabling screen saver/poweroff which is what it will do when on the home screen.
I have re-felashed my phone now and can't find a lock function (do know what you are talking about. Sure its just a little menu option somewhere.
I use GPSCycleComputer for the Diamond on my HTC Touch HD (with great success) but due to the way the GPS drivers have been implemented, if I power the THD off, the GPS drops off.
I have done a search within the archive and there was some code which could be written into a program but nothing that appeared to be a standalone application.
I also note that someone has written an application called MagicMobile which is really overkill for what I want. Is it possible to have this as a standalone application?
Thanks
Have you tried turning the screen off? Instead of pressing the power button and suspend the HD, you can use turn the screen off. That way your HTC will still be working.
Really numpty question, how do I do that manually? I can time out the screen using screen/power parameters but would like a shortcut to do this.
I have WkTask which has a an option but I use WAD2 for everything and would like to create a .lnk file to link to from the Apps screen I have.
Thanks in advance
Hi all,
I tried to use Tom Tom 7 the other day and it seems that when I lock the screen via the Today screen the TT Application no longer is the active Application and therefore no Audio Commands can be heard.
I run Windows 6.1 on my Polaris and I think it worked on my Old XDA as I used it together with the Radio & TomTom at the same time when riding the bike.
Is there a way to deactivate the Keypad in order to prevent TomTom to stop navigating?
I tried with the Screen Turn of Button but that has the same effect, TomTom is no longer the active task and stops "speaking"

Pt-1
Hi,
I have a touch Pro 2 and before a Touch HD and my question is : how do you use your gps software ? I mean, the purpose of the gps is to be seen.
I have on my phone s2u2, and when i launch TT7, one minute later s2u2 locks my screen... Grrr, Ok I disable it. I go in battery settings, uncheck combos telling to shut off the screen and the phone. The relaunch TT7.
But my phone doesn't lock anymore, and when i'm arrived, I need to recheck battery settings and s2u2. I saw that there was a soft (touchlock 0.4) that would have been what I needed but it's not working with TP2.
So how do you use your gps soft efficiently ?
Many thanks.
Instead of Vlingo, when tapping the Silent Key I want to start Voice Notes straight to "Record" function (like Dictaphone). Does anyone know a tweak?
(I already upgraded to WM6.5 and changed the media web button to skyfire, and the att gps to garmin)
When using Total Commander and trying to remove all of the ATT crapware/demo ware, I was only able to remove from the Start Menu or from Program Files, but not from the Windows main directory. It appears that deleting files like JewelQuestII.exe from the Windows main directory is locked (I get a message 'cannot delete 1 file(s)') Does anyone know how to unlock that? How can I uninstalling the rest of the AT&T clutter, including successfully removing the start-up/shut-down AT&T 3g animation?
Also, on my previous HTC Tilt there was a button on the side, which when I tapped it the display turns off and the device goes to 'sleep' stand-by mode (keys, screen don't respond, until there is phone call to wake up the device). On the i637 the button on the side doesn't do that - when I tap it it goes to shut down and such shortcut menu. Does anyone know how to tweak it to behave like the Tilt? (put it to sleep).
[Right now I have to wait like 30 secs before the device puts itself to sleep, so I just hold down the end button to 'lock' it and then put it in my pocket]
Do you think that the reason why you have to hold on the power button longer in order to start-up the device (after upgrading to WM6.5) is because somehow there are two sets of instructions for the phone to go by? [one is the old/stock 6.1 set of instructions, and one is the new 6.5 set)? If yes, then is there a way to completely remove the 6.1 (initial/stock stuff)? But yet, my HTC Tilt also has to be held down when booting up, and that was like that out of the box. Don't know if ATT did the upgrading on the Tilt to 6.1 though. But I do know that the Tilt that I have was ATT upgraded from 6.0 to 6.1 just don't know how they did it. Just mentioning the Tilt for comparison purposes. I need support only on i637.
Anyone knows any good (free) Pocket Dictionary for Smart Phone (non-touch screen)?
I just noticed this, since it is the first time that I actually went To MS Office, (and I went to it for the 1st time, after WM6.5 upgrade, so no i637 6.1 experience to compare). The MS Office WORD & Excel don't have any way to start a 'NEW' word or excel sheet. It just goes into browsing mode like searching for files. So I immediately went to the HTC Tilt and the Office to compare, and sure enough- for Tilt there IS a choice to start 'NEW' Word and Excel. In i637 the only 'NEW' choice is to start a 'New One NOTE' but not for Word or Excel. Any tweak, suggestions, comments?
Can someone post a working .cab for Smart Phone (non-touchscreen), turning the Jack i637 into a hot spot functionality, like the IPhone (announced as MyWi) ?
Did anyone figure out a tweak for the battery percentage? (% is not showing).
I have to admit that i637, though a non-touchscreen device, has so far many advantages over the Tilt. For one thing, I find it a lot faster and more convenient in the hand/pocket.
