Wizard (Vario) & Magician (MDA Compact II)

Hiya Guys & Dolls,
I'm back after a long break and have been reading all through the various posts i have missed in the last year or so.
I used to be an xda user (still am but am upgrading)
In the next couple of weeks I will be getting an MDA Vario (with Co-pilot)
and my wife will be getting a girlie pink MDA Compact II (with Co-pilot)
The big question is, what tweaks do you all think are necessary to make the devices "Liveable with" I gather they need a bit of help in the speed department! I gather overclocking is a necessity?
Also I have just been reading in one of the forums and the Wiki section about "BIG Storage" What will this achieve for me? What benefits is is likely to give me?
Hopefully I will be an active member of the forums once again; very shortly! Whats the point in having these things if you dont tinker! Theres no fun in just leaving well alone!
Hope some of you out there will give me some pointers in the right direction and some suggestions on what i might feel necessary to do.
Thanks in advance. its great to be back and hopefully I will find all the memebers on this site just as friendly and helpful as they used to be.
Look forward to hearing from you all soon.
your first step a bit more speed is to remove the tmobile customisation.
to do this hard reset the vario (or at first boot) then after all the windows regional settings, digitiser screens you will get a windows that says installing customisation (or words to that affect) quickly soft reset the vario and it will reboot without all the bloat.
there are lots of other tweaks in this forum, that will make your vario very useable
welcome back
R
So just to be clear...
If I do a soft reset while the screen is showing the T-Mobile installer working *after* the device is loaded and running WM5, my MDA Vario will still work and connect to the T-Mobile network for calls, GPRS, etc., just quicker?
If I later decide I'm missing something, can I just hard reset and let T-Mobile load all it's bloat?
the mdac2 is actually a charmer not a magician, so go following any guides for a magician regarding roms or you'll wreck the phone.
Thanks Dave!
Thanks for that dave, there are so many names for these things I managed to get myself confused already! Its a definite mine field!
I shall have to start looking in a different place to get the missus's phone sorted now!
I knew you guys were great, you just saved me a costly misfortune from the outset!
Oh dear!
Just looked on the Wiki pages and there is bugger all for the Charmer..!
Does that mean i'm gonna be limited to my options for making it useable?
Hope thats not gonna be the case?

The mdac 2 is great and you can mod it as much as anything else. The overclocking works fine as do most other tweaks that work on the Vario.

Debranding the Kaiser?

Hi guys,
I've just received my T mobile branded Kaiser. It's called the Vario 3.
As i am not looking to use the device with tmobile. Is it possible to debrand this device? If so, please explain how. My assumtption is that i'll need to upload a generic rom to the device.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Please read the forum first, before you post a question...
Especially the sticky threads...
To be short:
We know it's called the Vario 3 / Vario III
...
You can probably unbrand the outside by rubbing some sugar against the logo's (I don't take any responsability for this, but it's known to be working on a T-Mobile MDA Vario I).
Th 'inside' is also known as the ROM an can't be unbranded yet...
Just wait untill we are able to CID-unlock it, so you can flash the ROM with an unbranded one...
For now you can hard-reset (format) it and jst after the screen alignment when it's counting down for customization soft-reset it by pushing your stylus up the little hole in the bottom of your device...
Good luck...
Oh, and...
Welcome to the Kaiser forum
Hi,
Sorry for not reading the sticky stuff, i'm just not that familiar with the technical terms for these devices so i thought me asking 'again' novice-style may be cool. Thanks for your help on this mate.
No problem...
I started out this way too, so...
I can tell you it's really worth it to dive in to this forum...
You can learn a lot if you check the threads once in a while...
Be carefull with advanced adjustments to your device, especially when you haven't got the right ROM for backup...
On the other hand, don't be scared to try out some stuff, because it's very hard to brick a device...
BTW:
Bricking means you screw up youre device so terribly (beyond repair) that it's turned in to a brick / expensive paperweight...
Just tried putting in my vodaphone sim into the Vario 3 and it says SIM LOCK code needed....Any advice where to get one from apart from t mobile?
Sorry...
I guess you'll have to wait...
pof is working on a CID-unlocker and probalby on a way to SIM-unlock it too...
I heard it's a difficult procedure, because the way it's simlocked is 'new'...
Maybe you can try www.imei-check.co.uk...
It's a paid service...
Decide for yourself if you're willing to pay, or have the patience to wait for a free solution...
I'm definatley sticking with the last one...

Noob

Hello Folks,
Noob just joined as I just purchased an M3100 from ebay. Its unlocked and has been upgraded to WM6. I was offered a M3100 as an upgrade (with orange) back in august but I chose the Nokia N95 instead. I'm a phone/gadget freak. Always loved playing with phones, upgrading, changine software etc. Had a few smartphones in the past and have had one windows based phone (SPV E200).
I liked it, I thought it was a nice change from the usual simple phone menus and software. Mucked about with that too, installing unlock software etc. My N95 I've already debranded and added several after market progs.
Anyway enough babbling. Followed this forum for quite a while as I've always hankered after a TYTN even though I have an N95. Had some extra cash (birthday) so I got myself one . Cant wait to muck about with roms etc. Oh yeah umm, and hi!!
A senior member with a junior attitude, very nice
Welcome to the hermes forums.
Most new members find in a short time that asking questions that have been asked already will get them flamed by other members, espically senior members.
Wait I'm a senior member....
Seriously though you will love tinkering with all the stuff here. I love it. But this is not a forum where you can introduce yourself as a new member(as you have seen)That's a HowardForums or Brighthand kind of thing..
You will hear this more than once: "read the wiki". Words to live by.
For a head start:
Install HardSPLv7 (2.10 Olipro)
Find a rom you like (cant go wrong with shaps or Vp3g)
Perhaps a new radio (gotta try em all to see if they are good/bad for your area)
Lots of guys have done great work in here, so enjoy the fruits of their labor...
Oh yeah and if you find your incall volume to low, try the vp3g with setacoustic i served up.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=342174
Anyway welcome and good luck, hopefully it's your only flame....
very nice intrglctcrevfnk
I would only add one thing...
truscotsman72 should also check out THE MRVANX GUIDES for great upgrade assistance.
Otherwise, a very nice introduction to the forums. One other thought (now that I think of it) which may help explain the rather cool reception our noob friend received. These forums got their origins as an exchange of very technical information between devlopers - like the nearly-godlike Olipro, pof, MrVanx, duttythroy, sleuth, jasjamming, vp3g, schaps, faria and many, many others.... The more mundane "support-like" helpers like lowly old me is a rather new phenomenon that only starts once the ROM world gets more stable. We have achieved that in Hermes WM6 world. It is (as you have witnessed) a mixed blessing.
Either way, welcome to XDA-Developers, warts and all.
Thx guys, yeah I have the wiki page bookmarked and been reading through this site for hours. Very informative and interesting, which is why I joined. As for the welcome, it was just force of habit as with most forums you introduce yourself. Didn't mean to p*ss anybody off, just thought that was no way for a noob to be spoken to for saying hello (ok I did go on a bit). And I have the MRVANX guides bookmarked too, cheers
Well I received my M3100 this morning, nice machine, instruction book like a bible, but I'm having fun with it anyway. The GPRS doesn't work (something about settings) but google is my friend, oh and Device Information is:
Rom: Pro Black 3.0.1
Radio: 1.16.00.00

I assume you are in scotland? In your profile you can save what carrier and location you are. Helps for others to know in case you need help.
There is a page around here somewhere that has connection settings for different carriers somewhere....
I'll add it to this post when I find it.
Its ok, I got the GPRS settings from this site by searching, its up and running now. I can surf the net, only problem I have now is, how to disconnect when done surfing. I guess I should RTFM
As for Device Info, yeah I'm gonna stick it in my sig

Suggestionz please!

Hi Reader,
As a request, Id like to ask for a favour in helping me get a new phone.
Been using a HP IPAQ rw6828 for a yr now, and quite frankly didnt disliked it much.Need to change to a WM6.. have had a enough of all the Nokias.
Used the Black N95 for abt a day and got rid of it.
Kaiser TYTN II/ Blackberry Curve or anyone you guys could suggest.
Apologies if this is the wrong forum but didnt found any other forum best suited for this.
Cheerz
I suggest the Tilt....
Thx
Hi Bruv!
1st up thx for the reply!!...I kinda like the black one too... I guess tilt and Tytn II are same... js the weight thing kinda puit me off....
i noe this is XDA PDA forum, but Blackberries are outta liking??
Anyhow... I see you guys breaking a lotta code n making new ROMS... id suppose HTC TYTNII can be tested for a lot of ROMS and softwares.. can it?
tytnII and tilt are identical except for the difference that the tytnII has the front camera while att has cleverly removed that from the tilt.
As far as upgrades go there are a ton of options available here. All depends on what you want and which route you want to go on. Before doing any upgrades though i highly recommend that your read the kaiser wiki.
If you are going to be flashing new roms than don't forget to flash hardspl first to your device; again this is all explained in kaiser wiki so please do read it if you plan on going that far with device.
As far as suggestion i definitely recommend the tilt. It is a great phone/pda/micro laptop and has the capabilities to do alot of wonderful things.
enjoy,
peace
sire
Cheerz bro!...
Will go on wid TyTN II
XDA fo sure roks!

New Treo 750 Owner

Hope someone can help, ive read through the posts here till my head hurts and cant work a couple of things out.
Ive just bought a 2nd hand Vodafone branded Treo 750 and tried unlocking it using Cheetahunlocker. I got through steps 1 & 2 and then the program crashed every time after this point so I just copied the athena unlocker over to the handset, ran that and that has worked fine. i cant however run step 3 of cheetahunlocker to flash the radio back to it. Is this a problem or can i carry on usin it in this state ?
Before running the unlocker I did a hard reset and somehow all the vodafone branding disapeared. is this right ?
I'm using the device on O2-UK, what would be the best WM6 rom to upgrade using ?
Many Thanks
Another New Guy!
Hi!
I'm a new Treo 750 owner too. I guess you and I really came late to this party!
There are so many new terms, and so much stuff here, I feel like I'll never learn it!
I can't help much, since I'm only about 24 hours ahead of you. But I do recall reading in this forum that the "radio" modification should be "undone" because it has some bugs in it, and your phone may not be as reliable with it installed.
If I understand it right, the radio mod has to be done in order to do the unlock, then the radio mod needs to be undone.
Hopefully someone will answer you (and me!) and we can join the ranks of the happliy-unlocked!
Good luck!
