Hi guys,
I've just received my T mobile branded Kaiser. It's called the Vario 3.
As i am not looking to use the device with tmobile. Is it possible to debrand this device? If so, please explain how. My assumtption is that i'll need to upload a generic rom to the device.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Please read the forum first, before you post a question...
Especially the sticky threads...
To be short:
We know it's called the Vario 3 / Vario III
...
You can probably unbrand the outside by rubbing some sugar against the logo's (I don't take any responsability for this, but it's known to be working on a T-Mobile MDA Vario I).
Th 'inside' is also known as the ROM an can't be unbranded yet...
Just wait untill we are able to CID-unlock it, so you can flash the ROM with an unbranded one...
For now you can hard-reset (format) it and jst after the screen alignment when it's counting down for customization soft-reset it by pushing your stylus up the little hole in the bottom of your device...
Good luck...
Oh, and...
Welcome to the Kaiser forum
Hi,
Sorry for not reading the sticky stuff, i'm just not that familiar with the technical terms for these devices so i thought me asking 'again' novice-style may be cool. Thanks for your help on this mate.
No problem...
I started out this way too, so...
I can tell you it's really worth it to dive in to this forum...
You can learn a lot if you check the threads once in a while...
Be carefull with advanced adjustments to your device, especially when you haven't got the right ROM for backup...
On the other hand, don't be scared to try out some stuff, because it's very hard to brick a device...
BTW:
Bricking means you screw up youre device so terribly (beyond repair) that it's turned in to a brick / expensive paperweight...
Just tried putting in my vodaphone sim into the Vario 3 and it says SIM LOCK code needed....Any advice where to get one from apart from t mobile?
Sorry...
I guess you'll have to wait...
pof is working on a CID-unlocker and probalby on a way to SIM-unlock it too...
I heard it's a difficult procedure, because the way it's simlocked is 'new'...
Maybe you can try www.imei-check.co.uk...
It's a paid service...
Decide for yourself if you're willing to pay, or have the patience to wait for a free solution...
I'm definatley sticking with the last one...

Hiya Guys & Dolls,
I'm back after a long break and have been reading all through the various posts i have missed in the last year or so.
I used to be an xda user (still am but am upgrading)
In the next couple of weeks I will be getting an MDA Vario (with Co-pilot)
and my wife will be getting a girlie pink MDA Compact II (with Co-pilot)
The big question is, what tweaks do you all think are necessary to make the devices "Liveable with" I gather they need a bit of help in the speed department! I gather overclocking is a necessity?
Also I have just been reading in one of the forums and the Wiki section about "BIG Storage" What will this achieve for me? What benefits is is likely to give me?
Hopefully I will be an active member of the forums once again; very shortly! Whats the point in having these things if you dont tinker! Theres no fun in just leaving well alone!
Hope some of you out there will give me some pointers in the right direction and some suggestions on what i might feel necessary to do.
Thanks in advance. its great to be back and hopefully I will find all the memebers on this site just as friendly and helpful as they used to be.
Look forward to hearing from you all soon.
your first step a bit more speed is to remove the tmobile customisation.
to do this hard reset the vario (or at first boot) then after all the windows regional settings, digitiser screens you will get a windows that says installing customisation (or words to that affect) quickly soft reset the vario and it will reboot without all the bloat.
there are lots of other tweaks in this forum, that will make your vario very useable
welcome back
R
So just to be clear...
If I do a soft reset while the screen is showing the T-Mobile installer working *after* the device is loaded and running WM5, my MDA Vario will still work and connect to the T-Mobile network for calls, GPRS, etc., just quicker?
If I later decide I'm missing something, can I just hard reset and let T-Mobile load all it's bloat?
the mdac2 is actually a charmer not a magician, so go following any guides for a magician regarding roms or you'll wreck the phone.
Thanks Dave!
Thanks for that dave, there are so many names for these things I managed to get myself confused already! Its a definite mine field!
I shall have to start looking in a different place to get the missus's phone sorted now!
I knew you guys were great, you just saved me a costly misfortune from the outset!
Oh dear!
Just looked on the Wiki pages and there is bugger all for the Charmer..!
Does that mean i'm gonna be limited to my options for making it useable?
Hope thats not gonna be the case?

The mdac 2 is great and you can mod it as much as anything else. The overclocking works fine as do most other tweaks that work on the Vario.
i am getting an 8125 next week from somebody who was a cingular customer. he got the factory unlock code from a cingular rep (but he cant unlock it cuz he doesnt have a different carriers sim card). is there any difference if i use that to unlock it or if i use the lokiwiz program i keep reading about??
also, as you can probly tell im new to pda's. to load the window mobile 6 would i have to unlock the CID (which im not even sure what it is)? what are the benefits for using wm6 and is it fully functional on the 8125 (ive read a few posts from ppl that say they have problems). i also saw a thread for making an i-phone skin...is it possible to have both wm6 and this iphone skin? also, can anyone explian what this aku2 rom is?
sorry to make this post, but there are so many threads about the stuff i am inquiring about and hundreds of pages and its just too long to go thru. if anybody can help me out that would be appreciated...thanks a bunch!!!
Other than to say you need to read some of the sticky's in the WM6 forum, as well as the Wiki's - here's a few hints:
If you have a G3 - get it CID unlocked. If it's a G4, you can leave it locked and still flash WM6 just fine - if you use shelltool.
WM6 is mostly cool factor, with a few new features. How many people can say they're running WM6? Bleeding edge, baby, but it ain't without some pain.
iPhone skin - yes, and good luck. I tried it, and it was a slow pig - it looked alot like the iPhone, but not worth the bling. Try driving your car with a painted tarp on it. yeah, right. Can barely open the doors.
As for aku2, no idea. Hit search and check it out.
You got lots of reading ahead of you. I spent 10 hours reading before my first attempt at flashing - and I'm a fast reader.
yea im doing a lotta reading....where is the link to the wm6? i cant seem to find it!
check my sig for all unlocking problems...once you do that worry about WM6..Just check out a section and read up on the roms

Don't learn by flashing. Learn by reading. $400 is a lot of jack to waste trying to learn by experience.

You can't use it with the cingular sim card beause you don't need it!
You have to borrow a sim card other than your carrier's sim card to apply the code. Once applied, the sim portion of your cell is unlocked for life if you have the right code.
Lockwiz will CID unlock your phone as well. Once successfull with this portion, you can install any ROM or Custom ROM....designed for your TYPE of device.
You are currently running an AKU2 ROM.
Based on your line of questioning, you have a WHOLE lot of reading to do. You sound like you're on your way to be stuck in bootloader mode.
Do your reading 1st, collect all your tools and all you need can be found by you doing the research in the threads. All the answers to your questions are in the WIKI....it's your friend.
This was a freebee....if you're not willing to go thru the hundreds of threads, as you stated to get the answer....use the search tool or stay with your factory ROM.
Remember: This is a Developer's Forum, not a USER's Forum
This thread you created was a waste!
no pain ... no gain....
imho it starts to look like a 3th rang helpdesk here
In the interest of trying to update my phone back from WM6 to WM5 I flashed my T-Mobile SDA (US) with the T-Mobile SDA (UK) image. I now can't get it to turn on or anything.
From reading here I think I flashed my Tornado with a Hurricane image. Is that correct? If so, is there any way I can recover my phone? I have tried getting into the bootloader by holding the power, camera, and the communication manager button, but nothing happens. I do occasionally see the left light flash orange for a second at random times. It doesnt seem to light up when I charge it though.
Did I just brick my phone?

The simple answer being - it's dead. Sorry about that. It's a costly mistake.
What's the condition of the housing and keypad? I might be interested to buy it for parts. I got my SDA used a long time ago and the previous owner was a bit too rough with it (basically, it looks like poo).

And a very EASY mistake to make, considering the fact that on the home page of this forum, it has the picture of the Tornado before the HUrricane, yet the tornado forum is listed AFTER the hurricane forum.
I spent many trips here trying to figure out whether the SDA was a tornado or a hurricane. Of course they don't even have SDA is a model type listed there, which is even just as stupid.
Sorry, but this is just inviting people into catastrophy, and it really sucks bad. In fact it's quite fair to say if this were not the case, there would be many less bricked SDA's (Also known as Tornado, but apparently the SDA is not a recognized model here).
See attached image that almost cause me to brick my SDA
Tell me that is not confusing?
Flashing the US SDA with a UK SDA ROM is a common mistake. I know, I did it too, bricking my first Tornado 2 days after buying it! My advice; sell it for spare parts and get another one from ebay. I'm really sorry, my friend, but there's nothing you can do for your phone now.
And please do not advice him about JTAG flashing, etc. Theoretically, it is possible, practically no one in this forum had it done! No one knows how to do it!

You're wrong, those pictures are correct. I realy hate this modern attitude that when people mess up they just blame someone else for it. Yes, getting throught the naming jungle aint easy at times but still, there's no reason to blame personal mistakes on the forum. People who flash need to be aware that it's always a risky thing to do unless one knows exactly what one's about to do. So people need to invest time and learn all the details about a) their exact device and b) how flashing works. It's called personal responsibility.
So i have made the upgrade from the HTC touch 3g to this lovely peice of kit! Bought it on eBay and it is currently branded and locked to Vodafone. Here are my few questions!
First of all! The bastard I have bought it off seems to have passworded the device and he doesn't know what the passcode is! How do I get past this little pickle?
Secondly. I understand one of you lovely people have a sim unlock proggy for this phone. How easy is it to unlock from vodafone UK to Orange UK? The guys in the phone shops would charge me £30 to unlock it!!!
Thirdly... can anyone recommend a good ROM to flash it to? I want to debrand the phone but I want the standard (or as close to it) original ROM.
Please go easy on me! We all started out life as n00bs! Any help would be much apprechiated!
Being a noob is a good reason to ask many questions - but not an excuse for such a poorly written post.
Please read the forum rules - especially points 1 & 3.
3. Post only using a clear subject and message.
1. Search before posting
However - i'm in a good mood today so:
To remove the passcode simply hard reset the phone (read the wiki for instructions)
To remove the sim lock look here
To choose which rom you want - please read the rom forum - there are lots to choose from and you will probably want to try a couple before you decide which one to stick with.
Ahh many thanks for starting me off and massive sorry for the poor post! I think i was in a rush when I received the package to get it up and running!
welcome n00b

hey guys. i am in need of your help. is there someone out there willing to help me install a new ROM to my HTC Touch PRo? i am more than a virgin in flashing phones. pls, i need step by step instructions and the files needed to be installed. my htc is branded by orange Romania and under warranty. also, is there a problem if it's branded? will i loose the warranty ? i would surely appreciate your help.
pls, anyone? it's annoying to have a good phone with shi*y software
?
??????????
pls, will someone help me, ican't stand windows 6.1!!!
First you need to know if you have a CDMA device or a GSM one (with SIM card)
Then what OS want WM or Android
And then head over Rapahel section where you can find all kinds of guides to do what you need:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=437
Good luck,
first of all, thank you for your reply; no one has replyed since ages... i think it is GSM, i bought it from Orange Romania and it works with a SIM. i have windows 6.1 , an i like the fact that i can edit word documents and so on... i know nothing about the android but i would like to change my rom/software for better battery and performance (it kinda laggs although the memory is at 39% and the windows 6.1 interface is.... -.- horrible to say the leaast)
i would like a guide for stupid people that have never had the chance to temper with their phones software.
best regards, bobby
You really need to spend some time and read a lot, if you use search you will find this tutorial on how to upgrade:
