I think I already know the answer to this question, but there isn't anyway blackberry connect can be run on a Sleuth 3.0 rom is there?
gte493i,
I tried the HTC 6.1 ROM with BBConnect and it was a no go..... I had to revert back...

Problem with BBC is ... OS Revision!!
If you use a untested revision, your device pin is pending!
Only the original OS work with bbc ... this is why i clean only original roms and mod them!
ok... Thanks... I was afraid of that. Maybe as Systems admin and the recent BB outages I can convince them to trial the MS Direct Push to reduce points of failure and possibly save money.
BB Connect works fine in Sleuth. You need to alter the following key & it will work 99.9999% garunteed!!!!
1) goto hklm>system>versions and change what ever is there to .0.4.2 (The leading . before the 0 needs to be there)
2) Install bbconnect cab file.
3) If you don't get the check boxes at the end of the install (Calendar, notes, etc). Re-run the install (it will remove the 1st instance), I always get it the second time.
4) Wait for Blackberry to finish "setting up device for first use" and let it reboot.
5) On reboot, status will now show the PIN number.
6) Open the Blackberry connect desktop application. (Make sure you have access to your corporate e-mail) If you do you will see "Configure Wireless Device" as active.
7) Plug in the Tilt and wait for Activsync to finish syncing and says "connected".
8) In the BB Connect desktop application hit the "Configure Wireless"
9) When finished unplug Tilt and soft reset.
10) You should be good to go at this point.
I want to reconfirm GSLEON3's post. So far with every 6 and 6.1 rom that I tried (I tried most of them as you would assume as being a member of the forum), all I do is change the version to .0.4.2 and it works.

In fact, a link to this process is in the Release Notes section on Page 1 of the support thread for 3.0 Sleuth
Trouble in connecting
I've been following the process, and have had good results until the last step.
Here's what I've done (device is AT&T tilt):
1. Flashed my ROM with the Windows 6.1 Sleuth ROM - no problems
2. Made the registry change described in this thread.
3. Loaded Blackberry Connect - no problems, have a PIN and the device is registered on the Blackberry network.
4. Loaded Blackberry Desktop version 4.3
5. Have an good Activesync connection (Vista Business OS)
6. The Desktop M
anager says: server status online, active device PIN: (has my number); device connected PIN: None
The device does not show as connected as said by the "device connected PIN: none"
I also don't have a "Configure Wireless" choice that I can find anywhere.
Any ideas?

Gary,
Who is your blackberry service provider? I'm assuming it is AT&T. If so you don't need the desktop manager to activate your device. It can and should be done wirelessly. I have used Sleuth v3.0 WM 6.1 with BB Connect on AT&T without any problems after doing the reg hack.
PM me if you would like more assistance.
CP
My provider is AT&T. I would prefer to use the Blackberry desktop for activation if I could possibly make it work.
It looks as though the BB desktop cannot see the Tilt. I've had this working before with a Blackberry handheld. I've never tried (before now) to make it work with a PPC running BB connect. From everyones mail, it looks as though it should work, but I can't see any USB connection in BB connect.

Answer to Blackberry Desktop
OK, answered my own question. For others that someday may be stuck, there are TWO Blackberry desktops, one for their PDA-Phones, and one for Windows CE/WM5&6 devices. I was using the Blackberry PDA product, which is wrong. That version will only work with their phones.
The one for CE devices is "Blackberry Desktop for Windows Mobile". The link for it is:

Everytime I hooked my kaiser into my laptop, ActiveSync starts up, even though I have unchecked "open activesync when my device connects"
Then, every few minutes, it just starts syncing things when it doesnt need to. I wouldnt care, but fors ome reason it's really slow and chokes my kaiser while I am working on it
Am I missing some secret settings somewhere that make everythign MANUAL. MANUAL ActiveSync starting, and MANUAL syncing.
you can uncheck connect using usb that will disable the auto connect other than that you can configure it to sync just whatever you need (i.e like just favorites or just task ect. )and not everything..hope that help

On your PPC, go to the program list, tap ActiveSync, tap menu at the bottom, follow screenshots below in order.
I will give that a try, thank you
Hmm actually im not using an exchange server, just syncing to my laptop. there is nos erver to configure,i can add one, but i dont know if i need to do taht.
I remember awhile ago I use to be able to hook up my pda to my laptop and activesync would not start unless i opened it, and ifi wanted to sync any files/outlook data/whatever i set it up so it would do it when there were changes, not just every few minutes.
I'm upgradign to Vista next week so hopefully the built in mobile device thing will be better then this.
under connectionsettings you can choose.
"Open AS when device is connected" or you disable it.
I guess that should do the trick.
Maybe it only synchrosises then in background. don´t remember anymore. and for the moment i cannot try.
hope that helps
yeah i have that option disabled so dont know why it keeps opening. ah well.

If you followed my screenshot, you'll see the word "fake" as the server name, domain, and password. Uncheck all the data... tasks, email, etc.
hehe i did notice it. but im not sure why activesync is looking for exchange server stuf when i have nothing set up for it. seems a lttle odd i should set up something for it to additionally check. though i suppose id its going to check no matter what this might help . havnt had a chance to try it yet.
Well, none of the "proposed" solutions (fake Exchange Server, registry tweak etc.) worked for me... So, I figured this should do it: just create 2 shortcuts on your desktop -- one for killing the ActiveSync process and the other for starting it back again
Of course, what's most important for me is that while the AS process is dead these are still working:
- data connection over the USB
- power connection over the USB
Here's what your shortcuts should have...
1. for killing it:
Code:
Target:
C:\Windows\System32\taskkill.exe /IM wmdc.exe /T /F
Start in:
C:\Windows\system32
2. for starting it
Code:
Target:
C:\Windows\WindowsMobile\wmdc.exe
Start in:
C:\Windows\WindowsMobile
Of course, what I must mention is that this is only configured for (and tested on) Vista (edit: pre-SP1!) and Kaiser.
Thank you my man! Looks good.
I just upgraded to Vista and it hasnt been to bad lately, at least i havnt noticed it yet.
But, it is still connecting when i tell it not to, so i will try this out.

A slight change for the above shortcuts is needed after the Service Pack 1 (for Vista) has been applied:
1. for killing it:
Code:

Start in:
C:\Windows\system32

epocrates is a free drug rx program. A version for smartphones is out, but you must install it via data plan.
to get around this I found a microsoft mobile post that explained everything quite well:
NOTE: This is for Windows Mobile smartphone devices without a touchscreen.
1. Disable the phone connection on your device, so it does not try to start a data plan connection.
**This is commonly found in Wireless Settings, Comm Manager, or known as selecting Flight Mode. If you aren't sure how to do this, please refer to the user's manual that came with your device.**
2. Connect the device to your Windows computer with the USB cable, and set up a partnership with ActiveSync.
3. Ensure that your Windows computer is connected to the internet.
4. When ActiveSync comes to the "Connected" state, open Internet Explorer on your smartphone and navigate to http://get.epocrates.com
5. Select the "Install Now" link on that website to begin the installation.
6. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the installation.
7. During the installation, when it gets to the AutoUpdate screen that asks for your username and password, enter them. Also ensure that "Enable Timed Update" is NOT checked. This will ensure that AutoUpdate does not try to get updates while you are disconnected from the USB cable.
8. After Epocrates has completed installing don't forget to switch your phone connection back on so you can receive calls again.
I did have difficulty when i installed it, it said "startup error" and after some googling, realized that i had a space on the end of either my U or P because it started working. Also the first autoupdate is slower then i imagined... so make sure its done before you try to run it.
Hope this helps someone.
EPOCRA
I have used epocrates since 2005 but i am a bit disappointed in the fact that they have not come out with a pill id for smartphones. The application is only available on iphone which i am not about to buy and the new blackberry which again i am not going to buy.
So if there is someone who knows how to make the iphone version of epocrates pill id available for winmo i would appreciate it.
Hello all... I'm a total newbie to Windows Mobile and this site. Hopefully I've found the right place to post this. I have Win XP SP2 with activesync 4.5 and HTC touch pro (att fuze). My device connects to the PC fine but ONLY as a guest (tried this with someone else's device as well, same issue). I plugged my device into my co-workwer's PC and the got the option to set up a sync partnership. This option has never appeared on my PC. I've deleted/reinstalled activesync multiple times and tried other suggestions found here (checking & unchecking "advanced network functioality" and "ask about connection type" in USB to PC settings on the device). Prior to all of this I had software called Intelatrac installed on my PC. This is a "task tracking" program which uses activesync to connect to a Windows Mobile PDA device. I don't use this software in my current job so I uninstalled it. Somthing in the Intelatrac/Active sync set up is possibly the issue. I've connencted multiple devices to my PC and to another PC which has Intelatrac. NEVER is there an option to set up a partnership. Only guest connections automatically occur. All menu options in activesync except for "connection settings" are "grayed out" ("Syncronize", "Mobile Device", "Delete Moblie Device"). Any ideas what to look for? I have tried my IT department for the past month but have yet to find anyone who has a clue. Sorry for the long description.

Actually, long descriptions are best to identify problems
This is just a suggestion, but maybe this Intelatrac software left something in the registry that is being used by ActiveSync. My advise to you would be to first uninstall ActiveSync and then look for entries for this program in the registry and delete them if you find them. You could use autoruns to see if there are any processes/dll loading that shouldn't be there in the first place as well. Hope this helps...
Thanks for the reply... a problem with something left in the registry is exactly what I thought might be the problem. This being my PC at work, I don't have authorization to even look at the registry let alone edit it. Only our IT "help" desk group can don that . Through unofficial channels I got access and found that there are at least 20 references to "Intelatrac" left in the registry. If I can ever get these folks to look at the problem I'll report on the results. Thanks again!
I have searched extensively and can't find answers that work for me.
I have tried several of the latest 6.5.1 and 6.5.3 roms on my Wing (which is HardSPL'd) and almost all of them have the same issues:
1) My USB to PC icon is gone in Settings\Connections. Did MS move it somewhere else? I'm having Activesync issues and think this is why, but can't change the "advanced network setting."
2) Wifi... I tap on it to turn it on or off, and more than half the time, nothing happens. It'll either stay on, or stay off. Ideas?
I had some of the same issues with some older 6.5 roms as well. Do I need to update/downgrade some of the individual device drivers or something? I'm at a loss.
Thanks, and sorry if this repeats anyone else's posts.
I am also having similar issues. I HardSPLed my wing and after I did that successfully I decided to update my wing with SIMPLY EVERYTHING 6.5.1 BUILD 23616 so I flashed it on my wing. It's installed fine and is working but now my wing doesn't connect via active sync to my PC (same PC i used to HardSPL my wing and flash this build). The USB cable is connected firmly as it does charge my phone, just fails to connect the phone with the PC via active sync.
I would really appreciate if someone can either provide a fix for this issue on this thread or tell us a way to somehow flash the device with another ROM (from storage card somehow).
Thanks in advance.
Sort of solved...
This is the one I found that works best on my Wing:
Search forums for "Illconcepts Current Projects" (won't let me post a link)
(the 28014 Titanium at the top of the page)
It is flashed from SD card like most are now (nice!).
Occasionally (usually after soft reset) the first time I try to turn on wifi it will fail to start the wifi, but it works after that until next soft reset. Have had no connection issues with ActiveSync.
Big plus of this rom is that it's fast, is lean and leaves lots of program space. I added Office and such, but on the SD card, so I can still run Skyfire (just about every other rom I tried didn't have enough program memory free to consistently run Skyfire after I installed all my standard programs).
Only down side I see (if this is one?) is that it has old PIE, not newer version, and PIE doesn't work properly at all. Only problem this has caused me is making it difficult to download/install java apps easily, as Opera Mini always seems to give me "invoke errors" when I try to download files, and since Skyfire only seems to be detected as a "full" browser, it won't pull up mobile versions of most sites, thus won't get access to the java app links, etc. Would be nice to hear of a solution for this (preferably how to fix Opera Mini's "Opera Invoke Error")
i guess this wil help u all coz it worked for me

all you guys just need to open network cards under connections in settings. just tap the Sdio wlan wirelss adapter and then select name servers and copy the dns and alt dns as the same as in your desktops. Select ok and restart your phone..
it should work just fine...
all the best..
uh...no...
Doesn't have anything to do with DNS settings. DNS settings doesn't affect whether or not the wifi card turns ON or OFF. It affects connections. This is different, dude.
What's a good VNC or VNC-like client for the TP2? I've tried a few and all fail. I'm running realVNC server on my home computer, I know the IP and port, have the password set, etc.
· I try to connect with this VNC client and it does nothing (after clicking connect, nothing is running, no screen comes up) - http://www.cs.utah.edu/~midgley/wince/vnc.html
· I try to connect with this other VNC client and it just hangs in the background as a hidden process. No visuals. -
http://sourceforge.net/projects/dotnetvnc/files/
· Additionally I tried a different app instead of VNC, Omnipresence. It's made for the diamond but I was hoping it'd work for me. I ran the server on my PC, installed the cab on my phone, ran the app, and attempted to connect.. I get this lengthy error: "Error while connecting: An error message is available for this exception but cannot be displayed"... blah blah blah blah blah.
Also, the omnipresence zip contains a dll but no instructions on what to do with it. I dunno if it goes on my phone or PC or what. I have .net compact framework version 3.5 (or later) installed on my phone. I have .net framework 4 on my PC.
What will it take to get an exact representation of my desktop showing on my phone screen? Preferably one that doesn't have to be resized to the lowest possible resolution? Ideally one that allows for panning around on the desktop by sliding across the screen (as omnipresence seems to do)?

You don't have to read anymore, but I thought I should share the various bits and pieces I had to figure out to get remote desktop (not VNC but almost as good) running on WM 6.5 (connecting to windows 7)...
1. On the PC, click start, type remote in the search box, and choose the option that says allow remote access to your pc. Of the three options in the middle, choose the one that says allow connections from any version of remote desktop. Note: To change this settings you need to enable windows firewall. You may have made a habit of disabling it (it used to be a nuisance in XP)... to re-enable, click start --> type services.msc in the search box and click on the result. Go to the w's for windows firewall. Double click it, change the startup type to manual and click apply (unless it already is) then click start. OK to close.
2. If you normally login to windows with a blank password, (maybe skip the login process entirely) click start, type gpedit.msc, click the result, navigate to computer config - windows settings - security settings - local policies - security options and find the entry near the top: Limit local use of blank passwords etc. ...double click that and change it to disabled.
3. Not sure if it's strictly necessary, and some may balk at the idea, but you might choose to shut down the firewall once that settings in step one is changed. Same steps, except you click stop instead of start.
4. On the phone, start the client and type in your IP in the first blank. Make sure it's your external IP, i.e. the one you get when you visit this site: http://whatismyip.com . For the user name blank, use your windows user name. If you need to double check it (i.e. you automatically login and forgot) click start on your PC. It'll be at the top right.
5. On the phone, go to settings --> all settings --> connections --> connections and then go to the advanced tab, then select networks --> change both dropdown boxes to your phone's internet connection (in my case, Sprint. Possibly "My ISP" could work?)
6. Here's the dumb part that had me bashing my head against the wall. The phone's connection to the internet needs to be 'goosed' before remote desktop can work. You need to open your web browser and browse to any site. Possibly some other internet-using app would work. Once you load any site, you can exit the browser and finally... FINALLY connect.
7. Fire up remote desktop, change the options to your liking, click connect.
Got it going with some help from ppcgeeks. Also got VNC working. If anyone is having trouble, I recommend reading this post:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/htc-touch-pro-2/134014-remote-desktop-vnc-guide.html
