Hi folks,
Last time I posted the thread about "Spb Benchmark for (some) Kaiser ROMs" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358788),
... now I am no longer interested in WM 6 no more. : )
I'm into WM 6.1 now.
Like before, I did some benchmarking to find the perfect WM6 rom for my Kaiser, now I ended up doing the same thing with WM6.1 roms.
After benchmarking 8 WM6.1 roms, I still not satisfied.
Now I'm learning how to cook a rom.
Hopefully I can get a good rom that fits my preferences.
Who knows my rom can even match the stats of the roms that our MASTERS/GURUS had created.
(Just kidding. A newbie can never pass the teacher).
Here's the legacy of my benchmarking that I felf sorry if I just delete it without sharing it to you all my friends.
Thank you very much.
My cooked ROM now included
Hi all,
I've tried to cook my own rom based on ROM base 3.02 (a million thanks to Alex) and humbly present the result to you all (attached).
What I did 1st was cook it with original pagepool from the 3.02 base rom (6mb).
Then I change the pagepool to 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 32, & 64 to see which one is faster.
And it appears that 24mb pagepool is the winner.
That's why I ended up putting the 24mbpp one on the comparison table.
And it appears to be the fastest.
However, I am not sure whether it is problem free or not because I haven't try using it.
Now I'm gonna try to do the base rom 3.03 and see which one is better compared to 3.02.
Benchmark list :
- Original RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_3.03.405.0_radio_sign_25.70.40.02_1.64.06.04
- L26_WM_6.1_PRO.V3
- Alex.v5.WM61.HTC.302.UltraClean.ROM.beta2
- Alex.v5.WM61.HTC.302.Home.ROM.beta2
- v3.0_Sleuth
- udK
- 3.08.DKv1.2t
- Duttys_Official_WM6.1_Release
- my own cooked rom (Hery 3.02).
Thank you,
Hery.
Table Updated
Hi all,
Ignore my previous posting.
I got a newer update.
After finalizing my 3.02 rom, I benchmark it and put the result on the table.
And the highest is ... the good old Mr. Dutty.
I couldn't agree more, because I myself like the appearance of Dutty's v5.
So I finally decide that I will use Dutty's v5 and throw away my lowsy rom.
Thanks Dutty, I know that I can always count on you.
Nice. Thanks for doing this hch_111.
So based on your comparison, no real stand-out winner. As of today (and yes, that may change tomorrow), I prefer Sleuth's v3, simply because it is a more stripped down version.
I am curious to see what you come up with when you make your own!!!
Sorry for the blatant pointless post...but I just had to get to post # 100
According to the excel sheet, Dutty's 6.1 seems to be the winner

You are correct. In fact the beta is faster. That particular build is faster than the Vodaphone build. I have tested the the beta build over and over again and I got a SPB benchmark of 451 with that build. By far the fastest and even faster than most WM6 Roms.

Final version is a different build, the beta was based off 5.2.19716 which I was going to release but was leaked so I withdraw it for now this is a screenshot of my un-released official 5.219716 spb benchmark result

Look forward to it Dutty!
i tried pratically all last rom, only shamps rom i don't try:
of all i made spb benchmarks after a soft reset and of all 2 time the test
i chose dutty's rom 6.1 beta and i love it
thank you dutty

Thanks hch_111 again for your great work. Since WM6.0 work faster than Wm6.1, maybe I just stick w/ 6.0 for the moment.
I finally switched to Slueth's v3.0 today after using Dutty's No.7b for almost a month. I debated on which version of 6.1 to switch and finally settled on Slueth's v3.0. I can tell you that the battery life has improved significantly for me. ROM felt little slow in the beginning but now it feels much better. Let's see if it lives up to my expectation after few days of usage.

Hi Dutty,
I haven't tested your beta version.
The one I tested is the final version.
By the way, how can you get 451 with your beta version?
That was FAST. What did you do to it?

Hello,
Look at this article Frederic Tassy Director HTC in FRANCE said :
"Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade only For Kaiser In April"
The Links :http://www.businessmobile.fr/actualites/services/0,39044303,39380156,00.htm
"
Updates to the existing terminals: HTC TyTN II, as early as April
The update program (from Windows Mobile 6.0 to 6.1) of existing terminals mainly depends on the will of the manufacturer. The upgrade to version 6.1 requires updating the ROM mobile, and therefore requires specific developments at each terminal.
HTC, it seems, chose to be very selective in France, but proactive. "Only TyTN II will benefit from an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1. The new ROM will be available for download on our web site during the month of April. We have no other project to update yet, "said Frederick Tassy in drafting BusinessMobile.fr. Adding new features "enterprise" as fleet management terminals (with System Center Mobile Device Manager) seems motivated the choice of HTC to concentrate solely on the TyTN II, a terminal at the career indisputable. With an update available from April, this model will be the first terminal running Windows Mobile 6.1 in France.

WOW!!!!
This thread was old until you brought it back to life. On top of thatm you went in to another area and created a thread after you posted in this thread. WOW. So, in other words, you replied to an old redundant thread and then went in to another area and created a new redundant thread. Intelligence at its best.

My last tests show that the official ROM works best. Radio 1.65.14.06 is extremely slow to get a fix. In cooked ROMs, QuickGPS does not seem to have any efect.
I have tested all the ROMs I have flashed on the same places. My current ROM did get a GPS fix in 50 seconds the first time, 12 seconds the following times. That's while walking from my home to the bus stop, among buildings. Usually I did not get a GPS fix in that path, in 10 minutes.
The only interesting point I see in cooked ROMs is that in Dutty's Skype works. In any other ROM, you can install updated HTC applications, and any programs you need. I do not see a difference in real speed from a 6.1 official to a cooked one. I've worked for many years with computers to consider a change in a syntethic benchmark from 5134 to 5375 a big increase in speed.

Windows Mobile 6.1 official - 3.02.405.0 - Radio - 1.58.26.20
The 3.03 one has the software reboot bug. I have updated HTC camera to 5.04 and installed some cabs I got from AllTheway and P1Tater. Then all the programs I use (50 MB of software total). Everything is working without strange efects like the Comm Manager appearing behind open applications when it's supposed to be closed.

I've used Dutty's ROM. Schap's ROM, Laurentius ROM, TNT, S4V (both) , NoThrills, HyperDragon, even ATT/ Cingular Original/ updated ROM, Vodafone WM 6.1 updated ROM
PDA VIET and the Latest Kaiser 19213 with radio 1.65.20.29.
But
S4V.19209.01
(Clean Edition) dated 02.04.2008 is by far fastest by any means and clutter free. It gives best performence with Storage Memory of 140 MB and Program Memory of whopping 70 MB, which by far is max. in any ROM.
Install a few programs like Battery status, CLlaunch, PDF reader etc and it is the best performing combo.
Dialer is best as it scans/ searches call + contacts simultaneously.
Pls post your comments after using the same.
PDA VIET and the Latest Kaiser 19213 with radio 1.65.20.29 is the Best for me .
Give the link of S4V.19209.01. I cant find it.
I use sleuth v3. It had 71 mb free program memory after 1st start. Now with only 12mb free storage memory( more than 40 programs installed) i get 62 MB free program memory after reboot , but its starts leaking and after 10 hours is already by 52-54MB .
How much memory leak has S4V.19209.01?
edit:
http://www.dotsis.com/mobile_phone/showthread.php?p=489345 S4V.19209.01 clean
Sleuth isnt clean rom, but its fast and stable + UC . I like that
tnt vanilla has over 70mb program.
rom really depends on what u want from it. a fully loaded multimedia rom will always have less program memory than a clean rom.
as for me i like _alex_, duttys, leos, its right, confused stu, kyphur, sleuth, pham and any other cook i haven't named, roms. lol i like them all and they r all great in their own way.
currently running pda veit and except for battery life rom is fast and responsive.

If you looking for a Rom, stable, enought fast and work most 1.65.xx.xx radios,go to UDK 8 r2.
you will not regret.
it's like we get these threads every single month. Someone always wanting to know what is the best rom. It's obvious that any clean rom will be the fastest, and a rom with the most program will be the slowest, but is the most functional.

I agrre to extent but its not really proven that a clean rom is faster than a full rom, Some full roms are faster than clean/lite roms. The only reason I like full roms are that you get most apps you want to use and if you dont use them just doesnt hurt to have them, with lite roms you get good storage and program memory but when installing back your cabs it uses more program memory and sometimes makes your device slower. well thats my opinion. this is a sample benchmark of a Full rom i'm working on.

It has some improvement, compared to the stock rom or newer cooked 6.1 roms
Search for differences with Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid v2 benchmark results
Does someone already have an idea what files or settings in this ROM cause the increase so that we can port them to other ROMs and devices like the Polaris?
Anyways, I can't see much of an improvement compared to Dutty's ROM, but didn't you or someone else already compare it to other ROMs that score only 2000 points in graphics index? If so, why is Dutty's ROM so fast?
The big difference in benchmark scores is the DBB BitBlt graphics test,
1449 frames/sec (5386% of iPAQ) in this new rom to
452 frames/sec (1681% of iPAQ) in Dutty's v2...
Don't now if you notice improvements in real life or in benchmarks only...
I see. How do other ROMs score? I'm preparing a benchmark on bepe's Polaris ROM aright now, will take about 35 minutes.

How perform the rom and the radio ? Some bugs in the rom ?
Things I've found so far:
Vibrate sometimes won't stop after an email.
Igo8 won't start when htc home is enabled.
No more mAh indication with spb.
Otherwise everything is fine, at least with my day to day use.
BT works, activesync over HSDPA, Slide2unlock works better than with no thrills v3.
Reception seems to be the same, not better as i read from others.
I got one big issue with this rom....
It's really fast and faster than any rom I used till now.
BUT.....At times it slows down a whole lot and it seems unresponsive.
Giving me flashbacks to bad roms for my Ipaq hx4700, where it supposed to be a pagepool issue.
Do I need to change pagepool in this sucker? If yes: how much...
Thanx in advance.

1. Hi all , XDA rocks and all the guys there cooking the ROMS for us , I call u " VOX Chefs"
2. Now for the benefit of all I have opened this thread where all of can give out our experiences on "NEO ROM for Vox v0.9" , "XIP 20202 in Dr. Martin's Windows Mobile 6.1 v1.1" and "Windows Mobile 6.1 v1.1" and which one is the best in terms of speed , user interaction and other features.
3. This well help new users and share our experiences.
Thank you
Now I have moved from "Dr. Martin's Windows Mobile 6.1 v1.1 (XIP 20202)" to "VoxRomNEO_v0.9a (XIP 20202)" so I did a core player benchmark with the same song from my memory card, on both and the NEO rom seems to be faster:
Dr. Martin's WM 6.1 v1.1:

NEO ROM for Vox :
I've moved from dr.Gonzo rom because it has a bug with earpice volume control that is not working and sometimes the sound is too loud so it is distorsioned and I can't find the solution for that.
Could you test WM 6.1 v1.0 by LeFab47 alias fireburned with new xip 20202 the same way?
http://st.free.fr/phpmyvisites.php?...33&pagename=FILE:VoxRomWM6.1XIP20202_v1.0.zip
I have tried all the ROMs avialable here. And I settled with XIP 20202 in Dr. Martin's Windows Mobile 6.1 v1.1 with HTC diamond Theme with dockstation works wonders for me
The following are my experiences on the stability of the various ROMs I have tried. I will also state whether I've experienced speed increases.
As for features, people will have to review the individual ROM write-ups for feature functionality. Lots of tools have been added to the various ROMs which make them more or less useful, but that is in the eye of the user.
- HTC Original ROM: Baseline ROM, all ROMs below are compared to this ROM: It is stable, no hangs, power downs.
- HTC Update dated 28 Jan. 2008: Stable, no hangs, faster than original
- Dr. Martin's 6.1 ROM: Powers down the device unexpectedly; remedy not found, removing my applications did not help
- Dr. Martin's 6.1 ROM with XIP: Powers down the device unexpectedly (same as above), is slightly faster than Dr. Martin 6.1 ROM alone.
- NEO ROM with XIP: Powers down the device unexpectedly (same as above), faster than Dr. Martin 6.1 ROM.
- WM 6.1 v1.0 by LeFab47: Works great, no more device power down, faster than Dr. Martin 6.1 ROM; MY FAVORITE
* I have not tried the Lite ROMS or the various 96dpi ROMs
I've never had unexpectedly powers down with any rom.
Now I'll try WM 6.1 v1.0 by LeFab47, I did'n know that it exist.
Any more info about it?

Here it is:
The good news is that with this rom control of earpice volume is working an I think I will use this rom ....
@matrix77;
I had serious distortion issues with radio 4.1.13.60. Did this only happen when you flashed the new radio? I would have intermittent hearing on the ear piece and distortion at all volume levels, I could barely use my phone for the past few weeks.
In anticipation of replacing my vibrate motor, I also ordered an ear piece. I will be installing it when it arrives, however this morning I flashed back down to .54 and it seems to have cleared up any distortion issues. Mind you, the previous problem I was having was very inconsistent - I will test over the next few days and report. However you might want to look at dropping down a version on radio, I am using the WM6.1 w/ new XIP 2020.
I didn't have distortion problem before, but after flashig with "LeFab47 alias fireburned" NEO rom,and now their WM6.1 the distorsion is gone at all volume leves too, I will test it over the next few day to see if it will come back or no. I didn't change the radio version, it is still the latest one 4.1.13.60
What rom are you useing and does the volume control for earpice is working?
Dr Gonzo rom with new xip?
So according to those tests, neo is the fastest rom out there?
@matrix77;
I'm on Hikey's cooked WM6.1 with XIP/2020 and the volume control works fine on it as did it with all the interations of Gonzo WM6.1 in the past. I think I'll be staying with this one for quite some time.
Thank you all for your overwhelming response. This thread will definately help newbie who are yet to decide on which ROM to use. Are there are more ROM avialable on some other forums which any of the member has tried ?

Faster
I have used a couple of ROMs (like TeachTeamUp Manila2D (now) and MegaWizard and MSD versions) but after a period of usage I am now just looking for the fastest one.
Is this iLite really fast, and will it be faster than my current 6.1 Manila2D you think/know?
Looks Good.......
The ROM is perfect...........With my themes the ROM looks even better...... @janneman22.....You can use my themes in your ROM if you like ....

I couldn't set the camera and communication buttons(there are no options for them). the power button doesn't work also, when I hold it, the phone won't shut down.
Impression & benchmarking
Intro/etc
The iLite 6.5.3.8 28205 b1 is a great ROM!
I just upgraded my HTC Wizard G4 from TechTeamUp Manila2D 6.1 to this ROM and it just looks AND feels better!
Bugs/problems
I also did not encounter big bugs/problems yet, but I'll keep this post updated.
Small issues:
-Long time of 1st boot;
-Buttons do not work until set in settings but some programs are not in the list (comm manager, camera etc.)?!
Speed/benchmark
Speed feels better on some area's, but some less in others! The benchmarks (with SPB Benchmark) support this 'draw' because of 4 wins of each. It seems the 6.5 is overall faster, but slower on advanced multitasking and graphics.
All values are in milliseconds (ms), and the 1st numbers will be the old 6.1 ROM, the 2nd are iLite 6.5.
File 1MB: 1255/343/911 versus 1042/415/786 (iLite wins!)
100 files: 7042/607/3874 versus 7639/839/4094
Dirlisting: 1891 versus 2305
Database: 1589 versus 1668
Graphics: 2/54/2 versus 4/59/2
FileExplore: 6431 versus 5948 (iLite wins!)
Compress: 6667/1213 versus 5498/1146 (iLite wins!)
CPU: 11134/2343/23282/16 versus 10975/2444/21961/16 (iLite wins!)
