To flash then Hard reset then start setting up the ROM, or just flash and start setting up your phone.
What is the point of the hard reset after a flash of ROM?
Clean install. May just be my imagination, but I've had far better luck with ROMs when I hard reset after flashing...both other's cooked and mine - FWIW. Plus all the great chefs here seem to suggest it, which is enough for me.

I've taken the liberty of explaining the benefits of a hardreset after a flash.

One the flash has completed and you get to screen that says “Tap the screen to begin to set up your windows-mobile device” perform a hard reset.
To do this press & hold your left and right soft keys. Those are the key that are just above the Internet and Message button and push you stylus into the reset button. Hold this for about 3-5 seconds. A screen will appear that says “This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. Press send to restore manufacturer default or press other keys to cancel” If you want to continue hit the green call button.
Once the restore is complete press the green call button again and this will reboot your phone. If you want to cancel out of this press any other button.
This reason behind doing this is quite significant. If you do this you will have far less problems then if you do not do it. Trust me on this. This is a proven solution to a lot of problems that many users will face.
YOU SHOULD ALWAYS PERFORM A HARD RESET WHEN FLASHING TO ANY NEW ROM!

I did the Hard-SPL and followed the instructions to a T. The phone rebooted after the hards-spl and everything worked fine. I installed BlackBerry Connect to my device and it rebooted. Now it just sits at the windows mobile screen and won't proceed any farther. Anybody have an idea why? Or what I can do to get it working again? I did the HardSPL using windows XP and not vista.
When I enter the bootload this is what I get.
KAIS*0 MFG
SPL-1.0.OliPof
CPLD-8

Please help.
Anybody have any ideas?
Go to the wiki and look up how to flash from a microSD card, then flash a clean copy of whatever rom you had put on there so you can get a fresh start. Unless something is physically broken with the phone, that will save it. Saved me plenty of times.
Just had to do a hard reset. Fixed the problem. Loaded new HTC ROM everything is up and running.
How did you do the hard reset? I can't even get it to work. (hold right & left soft keys and press/release reset until some screen I never get)

all 3 actions must be at the same time and hold for 5 secs. if you get the short vibrate, just keep trying over and over. it wont hurt anything. at least it never did to mine.
Yep, you cannot install the BB connect software to the SD card & then reset. Your device will be looking for the BB connect software before the device SD card has booted & come online.
HOWEVER,
with SK Tools you can go into the startup folder & reorder the start up files. If you move BB Connect down to the end of the start up sequence it might work. Well, it did for me. Ylu have to go in after installing though, & before the reset & change the start up sequence down so that it's the last item to auto start.
You will have this type of problem with any program you install to the SD card where the program has a higher priority auto start because as I said before, you have an item trying to boot before it's operating files are available. Therefore, you stop the whole boot sequence because it can't move on to the next start up item without finding the start item it's looking for.
AS for the Hard reset. I find the easiest way to do this is:
1. Soft Reset.
2. while the device is soft resetting depress both soft keys.
3. When you get to the first boot screen depress the soft reset key & hold while simultaneously holding the soft keys.
4. follow the instructions on the screen, i.e. push send (green phone button) to restore, etc...
Works every time for me.

This is not random!
When I press:
RightSoft + LeftSoft it always works.
LeftSoft + RightSoft it never works.
Sequence is important. Not sure if it is left or right first though.
If other can confirm, could someone put it in the wiki, please. I've pulled a lot of hair over this topic.

that is to enter BootLoader NOT to start a Hard reset. when holding the power AND the camera button then resetting using the stlyus you should see the tri-color screen listing your SPL, Kaiser model, and one more thing i forget right now
EDIT - Make sure you are not pressing the ok button while going into BootLoader as the way the buttons are laied out its easy to press the ok by mistake.
Hey Folks,
I've searched all over for an answer to this, and either I'm using the wrong search terms, or what, but I'm not finding the answer.
After installing Dutty's Dutty's Hybrid Rom NO.4 Test RTM available Final, I can no longer do a hard reset of any kind, and the TyTN II will not charge from the wall charger anymore.
Anyone have any thoughts or any threads that I've missed? I simply cannot find a way to do a hard reset and I don't like not having that capability. Similarly, the power problem is a a real issue, I don't know that I'll always have the laptop handy to recharge it.
Thoughts, ideas, links?
Thanks!
You can always do a hard reset from the system menu.
Start --> Settings --> System tab --> Clear Storage
Also, to hard reset using hardware, hold down the Left + Right softkeys and soft reset. Then release the softkeys, and you should get a prompt to confirm the hard reset with the green Send button.
In the future, if you cannot find your answer in the forums, try checking the Kaiser Wiki located here.

I found that I can only hard reset at the crossbow (green screen) of a soft reset. Works every time for me as follows:
1. Soft reset
2. After soft reset hold down the soft keys
3. When green screen boots up depress the soft reset button again while holding the soft keys.
I'm trying to find out if anyone knows how to hard reset this phone with the physical keys. My phone has stopped booting all the way and the screen doesn't respond. I need to wipe it before returning it, but cannot get into it enough to clear storage.

I need the same advice
See enclosed page from Incite manual.
Lg incite hard reset
To perform a hard reset
• A Hard Reset should only be performed after all other trouble shooting options have been exhausted.
After a hard reset, the device is restored to its default settings - the way it was when you first
purchased it and turned it on. Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you
customized on your device will be lost.
1. Power the device ON
2. Tap Start > Settings > System tab > Clear Storage.
3. Enter 1234 for the password twice.
4. Press Enter.
5. Select what to reset.
You have to enter your password and confirm again for hard reset. However when you forget your
password, the only way to hard reset the device is via the hard key sequence.
1. Power the device OFF.
2. Press and hold the following hard keys in sequence.
left side - down rocker button - right side camera button - front right phone button
Keep pressing keys until your LCD screen turns on.
Align screen will appear if you success hard key reset.
1. Remove & replace the battery 1st
2. Hold down at the same time:
Volume Down + Camera + Power until the Windows Mobile screen appears.
DONE

Confirm it works....Make sure the sequence of keys is ...volume....camera....power key. Hold till WM 6.1 screen comes on.
Don't forget to put battery back before reset
i am also unable to perfor m a hard reset doing the key sequence..please help!!
Another solution
If you followed the steps above and the phone is still not hard resetting, you can try to enter Emergency Download mode and update the ROM. My phone would not hard reset and just kept getting stuck at the AT&T logo screen. I downloaded the V10X ROM update from the LG website and followed the instructions contained in the update. After the update, the phone works perfectly.

and until green right goes off. (while WM green screen on)
The process works without flaw unless you are not properly holding the buttons or for the right amount of time. I have posted the directions in a tutorial and you are welcome to take a look, try it and I am sure if you follow it, it will work for you.

Hey guys!
I just finished flashing the Energy (SENSE 2.1/Titanium build 21898) rom using mskip's guide and got to this step:
5. Once phone finishes flashing and gets to the screen where it configures the stylus, HARD RESET
(hold the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER (center) Buttons, press the RESET button with the stylus tip, then release the RESET button but continue to hold the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons until the reset screen appears)
>> I am currently on the align screen. Trying to do a HARD RESET on my HTC fuze isn't working at this point... and i've went far lengths to make sure i'm sequencing my presses correctly.
What should I do? Continue and align? or take out the battery (can't shut down any other way) and try turning on the phone using the HARD RESET?

but hard reseting is not even necessary.. some people say it increases performance blah blah blah. i see no diffrence. so continue calibrating the scrren and enjoy the coolest rom for tp ever! nrg! yaya
You need to hold down both vol-down and the dpad button and while holding them down do a soft reset with the slylus. Don't release the first two buttons until the tri-color screen appears. Definitely do the HR.

Follow Farmer Ted's advice a HR should be performed as when you flash a ROM it isn't always written correctly to nand and you will notice half the people posting questions in ROM threads after a flash a HR sorts it, i notice this a lot since cook same as Farmer Ted
Hi,
I dont know what happened but since this afternoon (no matter how many times I perform a soft reset) sense is unable to start. I cant even navigate my phone. however I can still send and recieve calls but that's it.
Does anybody know what caused this? Although I install various software on an regular basis I'f never flashed the standard ROM.
Can you please tell me how to perform a hard-reset if software doesn't allow me to?
quote from the manual:
"To perform a hard reset
1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then press the END/POWER button shortly and release it. You will then see this message on the screen.
This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. Press VolUp to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.
2. Release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
3. Press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset"
However before you do that, you could try disabling sense + soft reset + enabling sense -> this helped me few times when my sense wouldn't start.
The question is can you get to Start Menu / Settings? or - if not - does your ActiveSync work?
Some info from the Htc website..
Performing a Factory/Hard Reset You can return your phone to its original state, as it was when it left the factory. This is also called a hard reset. You might want to do this if you are giving your phone to a friend or relative and you want to remove all your data first, or if your phone has a persistent problem that is not solved by powering off the phone and then powering it on again.
A factory reset is a drastic measure. It permanently erases all your personal data and customized settings, and also removes any programs you have installed. Make sure that you have backed up the information and files you want to keep. For information about ways of backing up your phone, see the following topics:
Synchronizing With Outlook on Your Computer
Backing Up Your Phone Using Microsoft My Phone
Performing a factory reset via settings
The most convenient way to do a factory reset is via the phone settings.
On the Home screen's Settings tab, tap Menu > All Settings > System > Clear Storage.
Enter 1234.
Tap YES to perform the reset, or tap NO to cancel the reset.
Performing a factory reset using phone buttons
If you cannot turn on your phone or access the phone settings, you can still perform a factory reset by using buttons on the phone.
With your phone powered off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
While holding the volume buttons, press the END/POWER button briefly and then release it.
When you see a warning message on screen, release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
Press the VOLUME UP button to perform the reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.

Tnx guys but no luck, when phone is off and I hold the volume buttons then briefly tap power button the damn thing turns on...the the whole crap starts all over again...nothing works except sending and recieving calls...
ok, before you attempt to loose all your data, try copying unpacking the attached file to your Windows folder - it can be done with ActiveSync,
if I did not screw up, once the file is copied there, long-press of phone button should bring the today settings, where you can try to disable sense, and see what happens then...

Agree 100%. I backup regularly but now I cant even hard-reset so that's not my problem.
Until now a hard reset always worked. Putting your (p107r0) file in the windows folder at least gave me the uportunity to disable sense and grand me access to the settings. But the touch screen seems to suffer from this virus too...when I try to purge my stored info (entering 1234) the keyboard shows what key I press but the number doesnt appear in the textbar...
Even trying to install a cab doesnt work. I can find everything on the phone but tapping does nothing...
I'm very close to flushing the phone down the toilet or something...

try the second method for HR - the one where you start with both vol keys pressed
