Vista calendar and mail synchronisation...why? - General Topics

Wait, wait wait.....I'm well aware that you can't synchronise Windows Calendar or Windows mail with your Windows Mobile device.
It just seems such an obvious, and useful, feature...I know there's people who love using Outlook (which for anyone who doesn't know, CAN sync with mobile devices) but I find it to be overkill for my simple needs.
I can't find anything here or anywhere else about it, but I find it incredible that there's no hacks or workarounds or 3rd-party software to get synchronisation with Vista's included apps to work after all this time - especially from this community, which is usually so quick and effective at "correcting" things like this.
Have I missed something? Or is it just not a big deal for most people? Any input/opinions are welcome...

Separate calendars

Hi,
I have searched the forums without any luck in finding exaclty what I need so I thought I'd post a new thread...
I have a HTC Trinity (AKA P3600) and I use the calendar very muck. So far only for private entries because I have my meetings at work in Outlook in my PC and haven't really needed them in my phone so far. Now I got promoted and must be able to update my calendar from my phone since my colleagues need to know where I am and who I'm in a meeting with.
The problem is that I don't wanna put my private stuff on our company's server, even though I know I can set appointments as "private". I would really like to either use Outlook Mobile for separate calendars, or I need to find another calnder-appliction to install. And that needs to be one that's not just "a skin" for the information stored in Outlook Mobile (or is it called Pocket Outlook? I don't remeber atm). I would prefer to be able to sync both calendars some way if possible. And oh, I don't mind paying for software if it's good so pelase tell me of commercial applications as well.
Can anyone help me with suggestions on how to solve my problem?
Thanx so much in advance. Have a great day!
Markus

Synch WM6 with Windows Calendar & Address?

Hi,
I own an HTC Touch, with WM6. Vista includes apps such as Windows Calendar and Windows Address Book.
I was wondering if it was possible to sync automatically (using Mobile Device Center e.g) your windows calendar & address book with the ones used by WM6.
I can't imagine them being so stupid in Redmond not to make it compatible...
I don't want to work with Outlook because for starters, i don't have outlook, and i'm using windows mail, which is as basic as i need.
Anybody a suggestion?
Greetz
not that i know off but if you use hotmail and or gmail you can sync directly to those services
How do you mean? I have a Gmail account...

There are many more stupid decisions being taken in Redmond.. So yes I can imagine them being so stupid not to offer a syning method for 2 of their own products.
The answer is simple - which enterprise clients are going to use those apps? none seems to be the answer, so they are invisible as far as the development team are concerned.

Sync Thunderbird w. WM???

Hello
Is there still no free application for synchronizing Mozilla Thunderbird with Windows Mobile? A lot of people have requested this for years, still nothing comes up. It sucks, because I have to use my webmail through a browser, rather than my email app, to check my emails on my phone.
Anyone heard of anything coming up lately?
Note: I know there are a few apps that sync contacts etc, but I am talking about e-mail sync here.
Thanks,
mne

Am I missing something here? Can you not set up your WM device to access the same POP3 account that Thunderbird does? Sure, as soon as Thunderbird polls the account it will download all the messages, but then, surely you'll be sat in front of your PC - when you're away, WM will check as often as you want and will download (but leave the originals in your POP 3 account) all new messgaes.
That's what I do, anyway.

Birdiesync is commercial, but as I remember it's only £20. I say "only". I guess that is a bit steep for an "app", but it's worth considering supporting the app by paying.
There are other options. Finchsync is one, though I had issues with it corrupting my calendars. SyncML is another, but there's a lot of set-up involved and I never found a decent WM6 app. The Funambol one (the most popular) always uses the cellular network, and never wifi which is retarded.
I've tried them all quite extensively, and Birdiesync is the only viable solution imo. It has a bug, but I can put up with it.

Outlook / Andriod Calendar & Contact Sync!!

Wanted to share a recent discovery for syncing Andriod and Outlook (I am using 2007). Up until now I have been very disappointed in the various sync options for someone like me who is on a corporate network using Outlook and who has an IT group that does NOT allow syncing via cloud for any software that uses MSExchange server Active Sync, like RoadSync and TouchDown.
I have been using HTCSync which is not too, too bad, the big issue is that it messes up my phone #s like my (919) 123-4567 989 (this is the extension) after syncing with HTC was changed be to (919)123-4567989. I also had issues with syncing some Outlook appointments, especially recurring and also issues when a co-worker deleted an recurring appointment, it would not always allow me to delete this from my calendar. Bottom line...lots of weird stuff using HTCSync, but until now the only real USB sync option.
Add to this, I do prefer a USB sync option, yep USB and MOSTLY doing so w/o having to load a special software on my Andriod phone like Markspace or The Missing Sync or Companion Link require. I only want to use the integrated Andriod calendar and contacts programs NOT something special.
With all of the background, I strongly encourage anyone with similar needs, especially a USB sync option, please check out Andriod-Sync at this link
http://www.android-sync.com/
Amazingly, the cost is $0.00.
Also, if you want to see the various sync options check out this link

Hope this is helpful for the XDA corporate guys that use Outlook, came from WM6.5 to Andriod 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 and have been looking for a good USB and non IT controlled sync option.

It is syncing....will keep you posted when done
Thank you!!!!!!!! This should be a sticky!!!
Awesome app, thanks for the link
Thanks
I too have been struggling for MONTHS trying to find solutions to the Outlook/Android sync or the Thunderbird/Lightning and Android sync issues.
My biggest struggle is actually the task manager. I use Outlook Tasks, interconnected with events, contacts and emails extensively to track major projects, etc. I still can't find a reasonable and truly functional option.
If anyone out there finds something...let us know!!!

I'll try that app.
I have a AT&T Fuze (Winmobile 6.5/Energy) that I use with MS Mobile Device Center as a bridge between Outlook on my MS Exchange Server at Work and Outlook 2007 on my Windows 7 laptop & desktop at home. The system works like a top. Lately the display seems a little small however. I've been looking at an HTC Thunderbolt (Android) with the HTC sync application and several after market sync applications. Windows Phone 7 is off the table because of a decision by Microsoft not to sync with it's own product, Outlook. Is there an Android app that is a clone or better of Windows Mobile Device Center? Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks
As for a clone to windows device thinga ma bob?
Check out
My Phone Explorer for Android. Google it.
I have not tried to sync using this other than for pictures.
Re Android vs. WIN7?
I switched from a Pure Energy ROM to my At&T Aria, and now a HTC Desire Z with Android GB 2.3.3, never thought I would like Android like I do, bit man oh man, way nicer than WinMo.
Thanks for your help!
MyPhoneExplorer Android is working fine with my SGS2. I used it yesterday to sync my iPhone data to my new Galaxy 2.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
it's no longer free. the trial version allows 20 contacts to sync. if you want the full version it is $20.
Hi -- I am looking for a one-way sync, Outlook 2010 x86 to Android. Do Android-Sync and MyPhoneExplorer support this?
I'm trying "local sync" from http://www.psencik.cz/local-sync.
Another option for me.
Omg! Thank you!
I got depressed thinking I was going to need to return my new Samsung Epic. If this works I think that everyone on the google platform that uses direct sync should crown you king of awesome!

sync between Windows Phone 7 and Microsoft Outlook

Customers have been experiencing problems about sync between Windows Phone 7 and Microsoft Outlook. Many solutions are out there but our customers are asking for easier to use information. I wanted to share out this Guided Walkthrough. It has step by step instructions and hopefully customers will find this a more user friendly experience. I hope people find this to be helpful. thanks, went through this and stumbled at the point where you copy your Outlook Main calendar into the WL account. You could also tell Outlook to only use your WL calendar. Of course this won't get you the already populated data into the WL calendar but it will sync anything you put into the Outlook calendar as well (which is now your WL calendar). In our case we have Rainlendar desktop calendar connected to Outlook. Any changes we make to the Rainlendar calendar will automatically show up on Phone.
On the other side
Any hope of a solution that doesn't going through a third party online service? Trying to abide by company security policies which means Outlook data goes from your desktop to your phone or it does go at all. And I can't connect straight to the server from my phone. All I want is my calendar.
hold on...
crazy ass idea. I know squat about hardware, so tell me quickly this won't work. I actually haven't purchased a new WinPho 7 yet. Want to. Calendar syncing is the only hold up. Are SIM cards backwards compatible? I've got an HTC Fuze. Syncing my calendar there is no issue. So is it possible to sync my calendar there to that SIM card and then move the card to the WP7 device and import the calendar entries there?
As i'm not fighting with outlook, I saved all my contacts to my SIM card on my old phone. Is there any way to get them off the SIM card into the new phone (dell venue pro)
In the people hub, press and hold on the word "people" at the top, go into settings

Simple Solution
Make WP7 and Outlook sync directly. The cloud is fine but for those of us who want to keep out data close at hand, there is not solution.
Of all the WM 6.5 things most of us miss the most is the direct sync via USB or BT wireless of contacts, calendars, tasks; etc.
Please tell me a direct simple solution for this will be available; either before mango or in Mango. I don't want to hear that it won't be available at all.
Its ridiculous, what MS are doing have done! Any small business has been seriously affected by this, (If you used 6.5>)
I am still surprised at how set on the fact they are on the Cloud! Technology is brilliant, but used properly. MS are running along with eyes closed looking at Google and Apple every now and again, and then closing their eyes!
The WP7 would be by far the most efficient, in both power and usability, phone out there if they could rectify such a simple problem...

Mmmmm - Sorry - it won't be available. Undoubtedly, it will be available through XDA.
