How do I import my sms/mms from wm6.0 to wm6.1? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

I was using spbbackup I also have sms backup and pim backup and none of them seem to beable to import the sms/mms that I had on my 6.0 rom to 6.1, I don't know if this has to do because 6.1 uses a threaded style sms...any advice?

The latest version of PimBackup works fine.
Once backed up, "Threaded SMS" will convert the conversations properly.

I used PPCPimBackup and it restored my SMS to the 'official' .02 HTC 6.1 rom no problems whatsoever
this did not however restore my SMS to the "Alex 6.1" builds...it restored select messages totally out of order and only about 1/10th of the messages

wow...I know this is an old thread, but that is definitely a good find. Now my threads are in order. Thanks.

why do people keep their sms and mms messages? Do you not use email? I am not judging, just curious why one would want to keep their sms messages? Do you also move them to different folder like email users?

The Jeyo mobile extender as well as conpanion have a basic flaw. It stores the message text in the "subject" field istead of body. As a result it can store only 255 characters in it. If the message id largert than 255 characters then the message is truncated and excess part is lost.
SMSOrganizer will help.
It has Full SMS Backup feature + Export (which will create file-based folders structure of your SMS account & each sms on a seperate file)
Its free, get it from here:

SMS organiser does not work on WM5. It is working only on WM2003.
Ok then use Spb Backup or Sprite Backup
Sprite Backup lets u backup your SMS & restore them at any time.
Spb Backup does the same also.
But when I did my last hard reset, smsOrganizer & Sprite Backup both failed to restore my SMS messages
Spb Backup to the rescue! It has restored all of my SMS messages without any troubles
hi, it works on WM5 devices?
smsOrganizer for WM2005 is avaiable now!

anyone know a cab file for separating sms from mms?

im using wrcx3 rom and its really good, but i cant restore my messages. ive tried pim backup, spb backup, sprite backup...still cant..
i noticed the other rom i used, tnt5 touchflo, had separated the sms from mms....and i could restore my messages on there..
i thought maybe its cuz the sms and mms were together.
anyone got any ideas?
Thanks
You can't seperate them once they're put together. The only way to do it is to flash a ROM that has the seperated version included.

WM 6.1 - unable to restore all SMS

I have received the MDA Vario III this week and started to backup all SMS, etc from my old Vario I.
Before that, I have simunlocked my Vario III and put on the official WM6.1 ROM (ROM 3.03.405.0.WWE, Radio 1.64.06.04),
I have backupped my old SMS, etc on the Vario I with PIM Backup (but also used HTC Data Backup) and trasfered the backup-file to my Vario III.
There I did a restore.
Contacts, call history, etc was restored fine.
Only problem is that not all my SMS was restored.
PIM Backup said to have restored 25 SMS (which is correct), but on the Vario III is shows only like 10 SMS in my inbox.
Does the Vario III automatically hide some SMS or something ?
Someone had the same problem ?
This has been discussed on the PIM backup thread. Have a look there for answers. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
I had to restore twice. Once missed half of the messages I received. The second time they all appeared. I think I used the SMS/MMS software to clear all messages before the second restore.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction....I guess I completely overlooked it
I have tried several restores already, even only messages restore (or even only inbox restore), but I keep having only 10 messages where the database clearly says that 25 messages are in it.....
Strange....but I will discuss this further in the right thread.
change the sms WM6.1

this is only my personal opinion, for me the performance of WM6.1 is superb however the only thing i feel disadvantange/a little disappointed about WM6.1 is the way of sms program showing the message. i still like the old one style. really appreciated if you have the software to change it to the old one.

WM5 to WM6.1 - Backup/Restore SMS Msg's

Does anyone know how to backup SMS messages on WM5 and restore them to WM6.1?
Here's the rom I'm using (Sprint/version 1.2) http://forum.xda-
developers.com/showthread.php?t=397134
I tried PIMBackup it can backup and restore the messages fine on WM5 but it can't restore them to WM6.1. I do notice that it seems to have a seperate SMS client rather than just using "Messaging" like WM5 did, maybe that's why it won't work?
It's strange, a few will show up then stop. If I delete some of those a few more will come up. If I soft reset a few MIGHT come up.
It seems to be random, I can get anywhere from 10 to 100 to show up after a restore.
I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Kenny
I think I got it, don't know how...
I decided to try "SMSBackup" to look at the app I ran a backup on WM6.1.
And it backed up all my messages.
When the backup was complete my phone was counting up messages.
Up to 160 right now....
backup
Pimbackup is the simplest tool. find the attached enjoy more than you needed
Thanks for the reply that was actually the first thing I tried.
But I couldn't see the messages after the restore. It caused the behavior above.
With SMSBackup I can now see my inbox.
Still nothing in my Sent Items, but I don't really care.
Funny thing is if I do a backup it backs up all my sent items.
I guess it's just some more buggy palm software.
Thanks,
Kenny

Backup and Restore of SMS without Threading Sequence Problem

Probably some of you are using PIMBackup 2.8 to backup your SMS, Contacts and Calendars before you flash a new rom. The issue is that sometimes, after the restore, you find that the threading of SMS has errors, i.e. in Inbox, you see all the SMS with the "Me".
This doesn't happen to all roms, but seems to happen to many of the 6.S roms.
Well, I tested using SPB Backup version 2.01 and did a restore on one of the rom that I know will have threading problem. Surprisingly, the threading is good.
Hope some of you will find this information useful.
Cheers!
Restoring to threaded SMS
I have found that in order to restore to a successful threaded sms you have to turn off threaded sms in adv.config., then restore, then turn on threaded sms, and everyting works fine.

There is a thread on this (with solution) already.
