AT&T WM6 - No band selection page? - Palm Treo 750

Any way to get one? I figure a reg hack, but anyone have any specifics? 3G is killing my battery when I'm at my in-laws, and I want to switch to GPRS. Did some quick searching in the Treo forums, but not having any luck finding anything.
Of course, it is 5am, the new little one has been up a couple of times for feedings, so daddy is not really thinking straight.
Thanks!

yep... i was searching for this one too... anyone?

bringing this back up. the reg key for 8525 doesn't work (not surprisingly). could really stand to find out what key it might be.. if someone who has the page wouldn't mind checking the key, it'd be much appreciated..
I think it's hklm\software\oem\phonesetting would be where it is.. not in front of anything to double check..
thanks!

I think this is what you are looking for...
Go to Settings -> Phone -> Services Tab -> Band Selection -> Select GSM from the network type drop down

On my Tilt (8925) I don't have a Band Selection option on the tab/page that folks have mentioned in the past. I have been successful with a reg change though.
HKLM\Software\OEM\UMTS Change OpMode to 0, 1, or 2
Auto=0 (default), GSM=1, 3g=2
I usually soft reset after making this change but turning the Phone off/on in Comm Manager may be enough. Hope this helps.

kjason, that is exactly what I was looking for! I'm used to seeing it as a separate tab rather than buried like that. Kinda weird, but whatever.
TCreed, thanks for that key! That's probably what it's actually changing.. I'll have to play with that in the morning rather than on a feeding.
Thanks again for the help!

SOLUTION FOUND
check this this link out...
you have to delete 2 files from the extROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1424566&postcount=374
Then check under Start->Settings->Phone->Services->Band selection.

Here's the reg edit:
"HKLM\SOFTWARE\Palm\Phone"
parm name="HideBandSelection" value="1" datatype="integer"
- change value to 0
Reset.
Vola!

Thanks again for the responses! Very much appreciated!

Summertime!

Now we've put our clocks ahead in the UK (who forgot?) I see that my computer did this for me automatically. Why can't my xda iis do this?
Plus now all the times on my worldmate are wrong. My mate is Oz is only 7 hours ahead but worldmate says 8. There must be a BST setting that I've missed??
My IIi done it for me automatically
Hmm mine didn't, at least not at the 2am cutover...
my jam done mine automatically you sure you guys havent got it set to US in the calendar options and language settings?
My Qtek 9090 did !
My XDA2I did, and so did my XDA2. Possibly as a rresult of the last firmware upgrade. I don't remember it happening before.
My Qtek 9090 did correct the time automatically and issued a textbox informing me about it.
BUT: Now all items in my calendar are shifted one hour!!! I can't believe such a stupid bug!
I checked and confirmed that my time settings are on the same time zone, both laptop and Qtek 9090. Even doing a new sync did not solve this and at the end I had to correct the reoccuring events manually!
This is really a lame bug. Has this happend to anyone else, or have I done something really stupid?
Cheers,
vma
No such problem for me allthough I do recall it happening on my XDA2. Can't think of any settings that would effect it (other than maybe Clock which I have set as GMT London.)
Clock GMT / BST
XDA 1 ... adjusted to BST time ...clock changes BACK (by itself or maybe on sync?). If the GMT setting is changed, changes ALL calendar appointments! ... but changing the GMT setting back again resets all appointments.
Crap but I've come to expect that.
Anyone know how to fix the time to prevent reverting to GMT?
Cheers
John

Do you have your phone set to update in your time zone? It is one of the following registry keys to make the actual page appear under phone settings if you don't already have it:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting]
"ShowTimeZonesPage"=dword:1
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL]
"NITZEnable"=dword:1
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting]
"ShowNITZPage"=dword:1
Someone else can tell you which one of those it is (I think it is only one of those keys, for instance, I think all I did was change "ShowTimeZonePage" to 1. Someone with a larger brain than me can correct me though.
You can also user advanced config to configure this.

Do you have it set in Phone?
Menu -> Options -> Time Zones ?

Need help with reg key

I am trying to change "NetworkContexts"=dword:00000003 @ [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Cellular\RIL]. After a reset this changes back to a value of 1. Can anyone shed some light on this? I have never had an issue with this key on any TYTN ROM. I have tried ATT, HTC and cooked ROMS with no luck.
Any help here is greatly appreciated.
Have you tried holding down the power button and soft resetting that way?
Yes, i have. Whats weird is that if i pull the SIM, then the change stays after a reset. That is, until i put the SIM back in. I could understand if this was always the case, but why would it work on the TYTN and not the Kaiser.

ey man, perhaps i'm asking an idiot question, but why do you need to change the NetworkContexts?
I look for "NetworkContexts" in google, but can't find ussefull information about.
Cheers.
It’s to enable multiple apns. Extremely useful for that BS called blackberry connect. This allows you to keep your blackberry apn active at all times. it’s much better then constantly having it connect and reconnect anytime you need to access the internet. It worked great on the 8525.
Enabling Multiple APN Support
There are 2 entries under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Cellular\Ril], NetworkContexts and Contexts. The max simultaneous apn value is set by taking the lowest of those 2 values. In this case, NetworkContexts.

No problem, hopefully this will help some TYTN users stuck using BBC.
Maybe this value is set by the provider? Is it possible the HTC network wizard is passing this value from the SIM? That is one difference from the TYTN. I had to manually set my network settings before.

Yes, i was thinking the same, perhaps this value is taken from the SIM by the Network Wizard. Try HardReset and don't use the Network Wizard, to see if you can change the value.
Other test you can do is delete the NetworkContexts, i read that if this value is not there, uses the Contexts value isntead. See here http://blogs.msdn.com/kblee/default.aspx

I just tried a hard reset without using the network wizard, no luck. I also tried to delete the key altogether. it just keeps coming back.

Sorry for the bad news, seems your SIM force the parameters... your SIM is a registry cracker...
What cell provider do you use?

Agreed, i just don't understand why the TYTN worked. What is different about this os that would force such a value? Or i guess it could be some different SIM interface implentation.
I use AT&T.

it's so peculiar...
As for i know, the OS have a subsystem that reads the SIM to get info and set some values. It's possible the Hermes and the Kaiser have different versions for this subsystem.
Have you tried the elmi_c ROM? this is a cocked one with different components. Don't know if helps, but perhaps the SIM subsystem is different and allows you to change the values.
Cheers.

Hmm, that didn't work either. I'm going to try to call AT&T. lol, i'm not expecting much. I doubt they will know what the hell I'm talking about.
Thanks for your help

Good luck, mate...
It's not the SIM doing it, there's some kind of protection on certain registry settings that cause them to always revert back after a reset. The ShowSim setting does this also. NuShrike from MoDaCo wrote a program for me that allowed to be able to hide my sim contacts but apparently you need to know arm assembly to be able to do it. If you do, maybe you can take apart the one he wrote for me and use it for your purposes. It's on here, at least twice since I posted it once and someone else reposted it. Just serach for hide sim contacts and you should be able to find it, if not then let me know and I'll upload again.

The setting is coming from the SIM or somehow from the network. If i don't use the SIM i am able to change or delete the key all day. Also, as jcespi2005 noted, on a different carrier his has a different value. what is odd is that it doesn't become enforced on the TYTN. Was the showsim setting different for different networks or could you effect a permanent change without a sim inserted?
Btw, I called ATT and talked to their “data support specialist”. Totally clueless…
you're saying the key only changes after a reset... maybe there's an app somewhere that changes reg keys and you can launch it after every reset...

won't work, you have to reset to make the change take effect.
Possibly a strange question, but is it anything to do with the fact that most Hermes/TyTN devices were SIM and/or CID unlocked; there's no SIM unlock for the Kaiser (yet!) but it can be CID unlocked IIRC....
Also, are there "developer certs" for the Kaiser that you can install to open things up a bit more???
Maybe barking up the wrong tree with this, but I thought I'd throw it in the pot for consideration
Cheers,
Mark.

Didn't test for this. However, only Contacts reads ShowSim when it runs so it can be flipped anytime and only needed to be fixed for revert after reset by Contacts, or by some other program after reboot.
Sounds like your setting may just need to be set very early in the boot chain before the network processes read the registry. I don't know if it's possible for an auto-start program, even at position 0, to start before the system processes that read your network registry setting.

t-mobile settings

just bought locked 8925 tilt planning on unlocking and using on t-mobile can anyone point me towards tmobile cabs for tilt or settings sms mms settings ect.
OH OH I can! Look near the top of this page and you will find the way. I think it's called the "search" button, or something like that. Magical little thing that is.
Later, Lew
thanks for the reply lewcamino but if you couldnt answer besides being sarcastic you could have kept response to yourself i did try seach but had no luck so if anyone else could help thanks
You should use the google search to search for 't-mobile settings' @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=314616
There is a link here and if you use it, you will easily find what you are looking for. The search button on the bar above is not very efficient unfortunately.
Whenever I insert a T-mobile sim into my unlocked tilt, it automatically gets the T-mobile settings for me. Should do the same for you too.
thanks for reply guys should have phone today ill let you know how it works out

please help

Hi
My first post and my first wm device so please bear with me...
just two questions: speaker volume...searched, seen all the threads, can somebody simply say is there a way to turn it up permanently, not to be lost after soft reset, and if permanently, how?
second, i got my tp but instead of a globe on tf3d in internet tab, there is an ad, or branding of some shop...pissing me off..how to get the globe? dont want to flash rom.
thank you very much...
oh, and cingular radio, much better 3g and hsdpa for me then stock...for those in europe
re
oh, and one more...
is there a way to have tp ask you what to connect to?
so you can pick 3g or wifi, also is there a way to auto disconnect from 3g data after, say updating weather?
thanks again
1. no idea sorry, but it is not that hard to press volume up 5 times to the max... but mine stays at the same level after soft reset
2. you need diamond touchflo 3d config http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2373839&postcount=1
3. if you are connected via wifi, it will choose wifi over 3g... if i remember correctly, you can use advance config tool to auto disconnect 3g after certain time
thanks man...
tf config worked...
oh and volume, it is too quiet when i do max it, i saw dome db limitations can be removed, and asked hof if anybody knows...
thanks
for the volume, see if this thread helps

Bluetooth Discovery on 6.5 Roms

Hey Guys
Flashed NRGZ 6.5 Titanium only Rom today, sweet
One thing that does bug me and I know its a 6.5 power saving thing, but does any body know the reg entry or way of keeping the setting for bluetooth discovery permanently on?
When the screen turns off, it turns off that setting which is a proper pain. There used to be a setting for this in advanced config?
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers.
The ROM I have been using on my kaiser allows the wifi & bluetooth always keep on once i turn it on.
There are several registry entries, but most likely is this one:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\sys]
"DisableAutoSuspend"=dword:00000001
Not sure.
Edit: This entry also exists on WM61 BLD20765.
Thanks for the suggestion bro, am giving it a go now
