Hi,
I have had my HTC TyTn II from Orange UK for 3 days now, I love the phone but hate the fact that Orange have removed windows live messenger, and customised the home screen (not in a good way in my opinion!).
Here are the version numbers I see as the phone starts:
R 1.27.14.32
G 22.45.88.07H
D 1.81.00.00
I have been reading up on this forum for the past few days and have decided the best way to get rid of the Orange customised screen and the lack of windows live messenger would be to flash the TyTn II with a different ROM, maybe the original HTC ROM??
Obviously my main concern is bricking my phone, and also voiding the warentee, so i'm basically looking for advice on my best course of action?
I have read that the first thing I should do is load HardSPL (which I understand is a modified bootloader?) my current bootloader versions show as: (obtained by powering up the phone with the camera button pressed)
KAIS130
SPL-1.81.0000
CPLD-8
..but won't even this first step of replacing my bootloader void my warentee, or can it be reversed?? Can I take a backup of my entire phone (including bootloader) in it's current state so that it can be restored if need be?
Can anyone give me some advice / point me in the right direction of where I should start, as I am scared of breaking my new phone, as people on other sites have said they have done!!
Thanks in advance,
Regards
Richard
Read this tread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365497
then:
Read all the wiki's and stickies for Your device (Kaiser, right).
Use Search to find out about things whick is not clear.
Best of luck!
Personally, I would go for it.
yes to hardspl
then I wouldnt settle for a stock rom - I would go for a cooked one- like dutty's.
You will void the warranty, and as far as I know there is no way back from this.
But that is what this site is all about. Ignore the #2 poster, I can see you have read all you can and you seem to have the right idea about this. So go on.
Just do all of the HardSPL steps and then install a Cooked ROM.
You won't look back. At the moment I suggest you stay away from the 6.1 ROMs until a stable one emerges.
I have an Orange Kaiser.. the branding is really crappy compared to the HTC stuff, god knows why they changed it!
Anyway, I thought I'd retain my warranty for the time being.
So I removed the Orange Home app, installed the HTC Home with 5 buttons, the HTC WMP skin, HTC Calc skin and Kaiser Tweak - all from here and it's much better now.
I expect I could save some memory and get it running a little faster without the Orange ROM, but for the time being it's fine.

Do it.. BUT READ EVERYTHING ON THIS FORUM FIRST RELATING TO FLASHING ROMs. Once you have read it, read it again and ensure you understand it. That way it is unlikely you will brick the device.
I had my TYTN II for a week or so and then flashed it to a new ROM... would never consider going back to the orange one...unless of course it needs to go back as a faulty device. ( there are original orange ROMs to revert back to on here if you ever need them)
It's interesting to see you have the .32 radio on yours.....Mine was shipped with .29 so I may now consider flashing my radio ROM.. how are your signal strengths and GPS lock times??

With what? I had the .32 and couldn't find a copy of it anywhere. I wanted to keep a backup in case of warranty return but I inadvertently flashed the wrong rom yesterday resulting in a new radio and SIM lock
Obviously removing the SIM lock was easy enough but now I can never revert back to my original radio.
The main reason I wanted to re-flash the radio was to see if my wifi problems could be resolved since most of the reports I have seen about the wifi issue relate to UK Orange phones... No luck there either and it's really starting to stress me out
Someone has told me they might have a contact at Orange dev to get a copy of the original rom but I'll believe that when I see it
Anyway, back on topic... even though I've no way to revert back my radio for warranty return, I'm glad I'm rid of the Orange bloatware and will never look back.
Duttys rom looked and felt nice but I had Bluetooth issues with that so have gone back to stock HTC rom for now. HTC home plus the Home customiser, some new icons, quickMenu and that'll do it nicely for me
One word of advice though.... after you've installed hardSPL, CID and SIM unlocked, you'll never be able to put the device down. I don't even want to think about the amount of time I've spent flashing and playing with it since then

I have seen a couple of references to it somewhere in the 248 page Dutty V4 thread. I may try and find it when I find enough time to trawl through it...search yeilds nothing sadly.

This is the most truthful thing I have ever read on here Just wait till you get HTC home customiser installed....hours upon hours of wasted productivity at my desk due to that.

Hi there, i been looking through the forums and i am wanting to flash the phone with a new rom.
I currently have the Orange UK Rom and after installing all the HTC theme, homescreen, touchflow cube i have noticed the performance of the phone dropping so i guess what i am after is a rom with all of this on a standard rom or is there a ROM that someone can recommend me to use?
Thanks in advance
No one will tell you the best rom for your phone, you need to try them to find out which works best for you.
A lot of the ROM cooks have moved here from Hermes and Wizard and produce some great roms so most will work on your phone. May of these are optimised for the US market, so I prefer Schaps (on Hermes and Kaiser) which, for me, appears to be optimised as a rom without country or carrier specific additions and I can then customise to suit.
If your phone is Orange UK then it is probably SIM and CID locked to Orange. SIM lock is easy to check by trying SIM cards from other peoples phones. If you intend to stay with Orange then you don't need to unlock the SIM to upgrade the ROM but you will probably need to unlock the CID and possibly (depending on ROM) need to upgrade the radio.
You can CID unlock by using HardSPL - and this is a MUST to prevent heartache if you are upgrading radios.
But before you go any further do a lot of reading about the relationship between Roms/radios/CID/SIM/SPL etc and also read the threads for each rom before you flash it.
And dont flash a rom that has a radio in it. It will SIM lock your Orange device. You must SIM unlock your phone (no free way to do this yet) before flashing to a different radio version.
I'm using Dutty's No.6 with CF 3.5 and it works a treat on a simlocked Orange UK handset.
thanks for your help, i will take a look at the rom that you are using!
i am getting a 260 error when trying to use Hard SPL, any idea what this is or how to solve this?
*subscription added*
interested in seeing and learning about this. Ive just recently got my Tytn II upgrade on orange and would like to unlock its full potential.
after about 5 hours of trying to search for a solution, i attempted the Hard SPL on a different pc and it worked first time, so guessing its my pc that is at fault for the error. After sorting that out, i flashed the phone with the Schaps_WM6Pro_Kaiser_4.22_WWE_Full ROM and so far so good! really happy with this ROM. Only thing i did not do was backup the orange ROM, does anyone know where i can find this in case i need to go back to the standard ROM?
Ive just flashed with the exact same ROM as you. Have you noticed, theres no voice dialing icon?
either that or ive forgotten where it was! but it used to be easily spotted. I need that function cos im a driver by trade and this phone is too complicated to use even at the wheel (which id never do! )
help me get back my voice dialing!
oh and another thing, i cant even figure out how to get my SIM contacts back onto the phone!! (ive only had it 1 day thou)
I'm not too sure what you mean? are you talking about the function that the button on the top left side of the phone?
Also for contacts, i sync my contacts on my pc with outlook before the flash and sync it again after the flash to get all the contacts back onto my phone
ive managed to figure out the contacts, it just started reading from the SIM again.......
but the voice dialing is defo missing. You can set a voice tag by holding down on a contacts name so the menu pops out, but the Add Voice tag... option isnt there no more. I believe this ROM doesnt have it, thats my only explanation. I might have to flash over it again but i dont have the original one no more.
im gonna give Kaiser AKU.0.7.0 Cooked ROM a try, it has Cyberon Voice SpeedDial=1_2_b070717_0 which is what i think i need.
Ooh, so far this looks like the thread I need to be reading.
I will have another go at doing this CID thingy with Hard SPL.
Then i'll try the same ROM as you. I don't need the voice dialling so that shouldn't be a problem.
BTW, does anyone know how much actual memory the TyTNII has? There is another thread where the guy says his ROM has 900Mb of maps on it. I didn't think there was that much storage?
Thanks for your help!

I've created a ROM package for the Orange UK ROM which can be used to restore it to its original state, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1709983&postcount=10
You only need to put back SPL 1.81 AFTER flashing my ROM, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335568 for instructions on how to do that.

Orange rom is very bad. when you click on "goto" (main screen) and try to change your wallpaper by personalising, device gets stuck. i have this brand new phone and showed it to the orange store and they change my device but still the same problem.
i show them again and they want to swop it to another one again. (funny right) so remember to goto ornage "goto" menu (bottom left of the main screen) and try to change the wallpaper, when you need to cancel your contact or claim warrenty. (every ornage kaiser will get stuck 100% sure)
thanks to our graduate pof i have done the hard spl on my orange kaiser and now it is ready to flash the hybird rom. far better than orange rom.
Gah!
I really want to get home and set up my PC to get this done!
I'm using my MacBook Pro atm and I don't think you can use the TyTN II with it.
Really annoyed at Orange though for crippling my phone.
haha orange prob done the worst job on this phone compared to all the other networks

Mines been working a treat today. The voice dialing is back on the phone, it works just like it did before. The phone functions are all there (well from what i can remember after only 1 day of original use!)
All i need now is someone to be so kind as to show me where i can get a GPS software with maps for my phone gratis
I know, I know, there are loads of threads like this but I must be lacking something in the brains department as I've spent the last 6 days (since I got my orange tytn) reading this forum trying to understand how to unlock the thing without turning it into a brick and then to flash a rom and radio.
Everything I read on here has people contradicting other people and I end up not having a clue what to do in the end.
HEELLLLP!!!
To confuse matters even more I thought I'd got it sussed and then read about roms having/not having a CUBE!!!! WTF???? I then gave up and started typing this thread...
Here's what I think......and PLEASE correct me or agree with me....
Firstly I seem to be stumbling at the first hurdle since I have an orange tytn and that it seems is the worse to have for some reason???
I thought I'd start off simply by using the kaiser simunlocker to unlock the phone (by jocky) but then came across something called hardspl with all its variances, so OK lets go with the flow and dismiss the hardspl step for now assuming I can do it and read on...
Assuming I could ever find a program that makes a backup of the rom I've got I'd carry on with the unlocker until I get to the step (step 10) that says download the original radio..............this of course doesn't exist (1.27.14.32) so I look for a proggy that downloads the radio to use at this point. Here's where I come unstuck again.........no proggy!!
At this point I must assume that this may not be possible on the model I've got if I want to be sure I can make it original again.
Could someone please confirm this so I can accept the fact that I have to use what came with the phone and save myself a few hours a night getting nowhere...
Sorry for my rant but I'm frustrated that my old brain can't figure this out and giving up seems to be the only option. I completely understand that I'll get flamed for this since I'm a noobie and asking again what numerous otheres have asked but I accept that...
I have great respect for all you guys that can actually understand this on first reading and especially the people who produce this stuff....
Thanks again folks

I think I am one of the oldest around here so its not your "old" brain. _Alex_ has gone to great length to get all of the information you need in one place. Start with his sticky. Good luck.
hello, lots of stuff to learn, first thing, which sounds like you did is read, next hard SPL
see the 2nd sticky in the forum,
go down to kaiser wiki, then rom tools wiki, the 3rd choice, hard SPL cid unlock, read carefully and install, once completed, now your phone is ready to flash roms, (for Kaiser) most come with radio or recommend radios to use and not use. if you have problems with hard spl then use the wiki again to troubleshoot and the first 2 stickys
im out
just sell your kaiser and stick to a razor......lol.....j/k....just listen to p1tater...hes right!!
Hey family guy,
A few months back I got an Orange TYTN II just like you. I read for about a week on here untill I felt confident enough in the steps needed to flash a new ROM. First off I Hard SPL and then went for Dutty V3 ROM which was perfect untill I then felt clever enough to flash a new ROM a few weeks later. Due to not sim unlocking correctly the first time around, upon a new radio being flashed to the phone It locked my SIM.. untill I found out the true way to SIM unlock the phone.
Once you have Hard Spl and SIM unlocked you are well away. I know at this point you are probably feeling pretty confused with all this but believe me it is well worth it in the end.
Oh and FYI.... I can confirm that there is an Orange original Rom on here and a few compatible radios should you ever need to revert back to them for some reason as I had to do this myself at one point when trying to work out where I was having issues with something.
All the best
Chris

PMSL....That's where it went, I knew I had left it somewhere. Now where are my damn glasses I can't read a thing.
Unlock your Orange Kaiser
Here's my experience ..
1. Basically HardSPL your Tytn II to facilitate a cooked ROM that can be 'sim unlocked'
2. Install the Cooked Rom
3. Run the Sim unlock generator code
4. Phone is *UNLOCKED !*
5. Install a ROM of your choice
6. Install a Radio of your choice
Here's the stuff I used:
READ ALL THE POSTS - READ ALL THE POSTS !!
** USE WINDOWS XP OS with Activesync!! **
1. HTC Kaiser Hard-SPL v1 - CID Unlock & Flash any ROM to your device
You will know you got it right when it says either 1.0.HardSPL or 1.0.OliPof.
NOTE: I had problems here and had to force it with JumpSPL1.93 because HardSPL would not install.
2+3. I used Jockyw2001 Kaiser Sim Unlocker v0.1
NOTE:
> The file has three steps ... 1, 2 & 3 so you can't go wrong:
> Step 1. Installs the 'patched' Radio
> Step 2. Generates the key code for unlocking (on your PC) which you enter into the Tytn.
> Step 3. Installs a replacement radio
4. My code was a series of numbers that I had to type into the screen.
5+6. Read my signature for what I'm using today (it changes)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All instructions are on screen with prompts.
I sweated for days before I chanced it and it took me about 15 minutes from start to finish but you end up with a pucka HTC looking Tytn II and not the Orange variant.
A few important pointers from the bit I learned:
1. You cannot do this on a WM6.1 Tytn II, you have to go down to WM6.0 - As mine was WM6.0 it didn't matter.
2. Vista is a ***** for doing this and you have enough things to think about without the PC's OS .. USE XP !!
3. HardSPL once done, the Tytn II is clear for all future ROM + Radio upgrades.
4. Bootloader = Power button + Camera button + Reset with stylus
5. Hard reset is Left softkey + Right softkey + Reset with stylus
6. Always Hard reset after blowing any new ROM before using.
7. Backup all your contacts etc. to your SD card with PIM Backup 2.8 before you do anything.
8. Remove the SD card before you begin.
9. The 'Cube' isn't always included in the ROM's - I use this CUBE
10. Most Roms come with their own 'loader' called 'Kaiser_RUU' so you don't have too much to think about.
11. Stick your Radio and ROM information in your signature, you never know when you may want to go back and forget what you had installed ;-)
12. Installing a new radio on a phone that isn't SIM Unlocked will result in a LOCKED TO ALL NETWORKS phone - So SIM Unlock it !!
Enjoy
PS. Let me know if you can't find the files you need.
SIM Unlocker Software HERE
PPS. Before you unlock your Orange can you pop over to this thread and answer Rabdo's question - Thanks.
Ok thanks, that would make sense then.
Hi all and thanks for your comments advice and encouragement..........just quickly looking at the old age thread I am one of the oldest at 47!!
The thing about this thread is that it's happened again and there are only 13 posts!!
There's been contradiction about the orange tytn above. Some peeps say it needs to be unlocked (and that they've done it but don't mention what radio they're using), and some peeps say it doesn't need to be unlocked!?!?!?
There is my confusion and my hesitation to do anything in case I lock the sim out completely. That I can't have as I need the phone at all times to get in toch with my kids (humans or small goats depending on what your state of mind is!).
Here is what I think I should do...
1.) Use hardspl to unlock something (not sure what at the mo) so that I am able to flash
2.) Unlock the SIM lock using kaiser sim unlocker (or not! jury is out, but not sure which radio to use so scared of brickifying it)
3.) Flash my choice of rom (but not sure if I have to then flash a radio or if the radio is included in the rom)
That's about all my poor tired OLD.......VERY OLD brains can figure out and there are enough 'I don't knows' there to stop me in my tracks...
I'll keep reading though but in the meantime I could do with gleaning info from someone who is in the UK on orange and maybe has a recent model...
I'll be 48 in August, so it's not just the Youngsters who play with the 'phones.
(Does that make me the oldest ?)
I bought the TytnII from the Orange Shop in Leicester just before Christmas but didn't have the bottle to unlock it for months ... Main reason was the unlocking 4 months ago was £20 !! and i didn't want to brick it either.
I spotted someone selling the unlocking service on ebay about a month ago, so I knew someone had cracked it here (and some cheapskate was selling the service.)
Feel free to private message me, if you need to we can talk it through over the phone.
Greetings to all...........and a damn good weekend to everyone!!
mattarse you simply added to the confusion in my mind............for other it was probably very clear
ajs007, I will PM you and perhaps a quick chat to get me up and running would be great!
One thing I do know though..........when (yes, I've gone from if to when) I get more knowledable about this I'll be one of the first peeps there to help anyone out if I can!
After a long chat with ajs007 (for which I am very grateful) I felt I had the confidence to go ahead and install hardspl using the jumpspl route.
My tale of woe follows as it was unsuccessful every time...
I followed jockys instructions,
1a. download the 5 attached files
1b. connect your PC to phone with a USB cable
2. REMOVE SIM and SD CARDS !!
3. copy JumpSPL1.56-KAIS.exe to your device and run it (make sure the USB cable is still connected). If you still get a white screen then reset your device and now try JumpSPL1.93-KAIS.exe
4. after a few seconds "USB" appears on the phone display
5. unplug and replug the usb cable
6. deselect "Allow USB connections" in Activesync connection settings
7. now flash hardSPL (run KaiserCustomRUU.exe from flash-hardSPL.zip on your PC)
After step 3 (for both 1.56 & 1.93) I get the tri-colour screen (not mentioned above) shortly followed by 'USB' on the white at the bottom (step 4).
(I guess this makes it a quad colour screen instead of
I then did step 5 and step 6 as above and moved on to step 7 to run kaisercustomruu.exe.
I then get a screen which says verifying phone settings and a further screen which has 'current info about your pda phone:' and lists nothing!!
Another line that says 'image version:' and has nothing listed and yet another line that says 'select from below:' and has nothing next to it!?!?!?!?
There is a button that says update the current ROM version but I dare not press it if it is going to update with nothing!!!??
On top of all that I read contradiction again where the instructions above state that you must deselect 'allow usb connections' yet when you run kaisercustomruu.exe it states that you must have an activesync connection....
I'm now really confused and convinced it just isn't to be. Sorry Alan it did sound so easy when you explained it but there must be something different about my phone.........I'm going to throw myself or the phone or both of us off a tall building.............now Im totally depressed
Exit stage left feeling very sorry for oneself...
Looks like everything was A.O.K. for flashing..
IMPORTANT ** You didn't say if you had SPL xxx PoF on the Tri Screen ?
I didn't have any reference to a ROM on the install screen but it worked, probably because the ROM was in the same directory and it didn't need to look anywhere ....
I think (but I'm not 100%) the activesync USB connection is an XP v. Vista thing, and you do need USB connection in XP.
In summary, if you did have SPL xxx PoF on the Tri Screen you should be good to go.
From totally & utterly confused to successfully running Dutty's 6.1!!
Lots of bonus points and many thanks to AJS007 for allowing me to bother him with all my questions and lack of confidence.
Here's my tale...
Firstly I tried to install hardspl running from my PC and a USB cable but I got the infamous white screen!
I then followed the instructions for using jumpspl version 1.53 (for some reason the instructions I read didn't say remove and re-inset battery therefore I didn't do that bit!).
I got to the bit where 'USB' appears on the screen and pulled out the cable then re-inserted it. I have no idea why you do this but I did it. When I pulled the cable out the screen had 'Serial' on it and when I re-inserted it, it went back to 'USB'
I carried on to the next step and unchecked the 'Allow USB Connections' in Activesync (again I have no idea why you do this) and went on to run 'kaisercustomruu.exe'
Here's where I hesitated and got stuck. The program started on the PC and got to a point where it interrogated the phone, shortly after that I was presented with another screen that waited for my input ready to 'Update' but I hesitated since there was no information listed under 'Image Version:' and 'Select from below:'.
I wasn't sure what to do here and cancelled the whole thing in case I bricked it
After further investigation, more reading and speaking once again to my mentor AJS007, I decided to go ahead and throw what caution I had left to the wind, so I pressed the 'Update' button.
After a few more screens I got to the point of no return and gritted my teeth.........nothing happened........I disconnected and re-connected and tried again..........nothing again............after a third time though (and I don't know why) it burst into life and I got the 'percentage screen'.
At this point I did think I had trashed it but plodded on regardless in the hope that I hadn't and everything would be OK. Thankfully it was and on entering the bootloader screen I saw 'olipof'..............all was well
This gave me the extra bit of confidence I needed to go through the unlock procedure and then on to flash Dutty's latest. I did get to the point where I had to enter the unlock code and it took 2 attempts to accept it for some reason........I can't explain that either!!
It was all in all a stressful time and involved a lot of pacing up and down when the ROM was flashing, taking what seemed to be hours to complete and slowing down to an almost stop at certain points, but in the end it did all work and I am now left with a transformed T2, but with the following little problems,
1.) My bluetooth headset has to be paired every time I want to use it!
2.) When I go to re-calibrate the screen (with the cross hair) it freezes up and I have to do a soft reset.
3.) My screen 'tap' noises have disappeared (except when I press the 'start' button)
I haven't tried to reflash the radio to see if that will take care of the bluetooth issue yet but I intend to do so in the next few days.
For anyone that's interested I'm using the radio ROM that was included in Dutty's latest build (WM6.1_5.2.19209) which is 1.58.16.27.
Finally, once again my thanks to AJS007 who went to the trouble of helping me in my few hours of need.
If anyone new here would like to ask me any questions about my noobie experience please don't hold back!!
Hi all,
I've been reading your threads about flashing the ROM with the 6.1 version from HTC and read that everyone seems to be having issues with flashing the Orange Branded Kaiser.
I've managed to successfully flash mine with the HTC 6.1 update and get rid of all the orange stuff. I used Olipro's SIM/CID unlocker to unlock the device and success, it works!
I made sure that I had a copy of the radio ROM and the original Orange ROM, which are all available on here just incase. The first few times the phone just booted and locked up on the splash screen, so used camera, power and soft reset to boot into bootloader and reinstalled the orange ROM, all worked fine.
Probably teaching you all to suck eggs as you've all probably achieved it, but just wanted to let you know there is hope, I am a noobie yet managed it. Just wanted to say a big thanks to all of you at XDA, especially Olipro! So, cheers! Happy cooking
gratz mate, did mine last week after reading for a couple of weeks, using dutty's wm6.1 but having problems with forwarding text messages, keeps spamming everyone the same message lol......any chance you can upload the original orange rom and radio somewhere I never made a backup
I've been using an Orange TyTn and from day 1 I have been using cooked ROMs with not a single problem EVER... The only problem I came across was the Radio issues... And that was my mistake because I didn't put a 6.1 radio on my phone... All the people that do have problems are those who cannot or choose not to READ!!! Its by no means the simplest job to flash any ROM for the first time with a TyTn... But start reading the right things and taking it ALL in and you can't go wrong... Even if you do go wrong someone has done it too and posted a fix or a guide which explains everything you need to know to get back on track...
I flashed my kaiser (was on Orange UK) but downloaded the Orange ROM as backup from here- it's in the sticky which points to the wiki
Hear, hear - the issues for Orange users are well known and very well documented here. The main issue of SIM lock has gone away thanks to the efforts of Jocky and co. making flashing our Orange devices a much more straightforward affair.
Some time ago I made a backup of the original Orange ROM which can be found in this thread;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1586817&postcount=2
Note that this is the ROM and splash screen only - the Radio that Orange ships has never been released in a ROM package, there are other radios available with close(ish) version numbers - see the Radio ROM thread for more information.
we must be carefull with our rulings
I should certainly congratulate you for your successfully flashing a rom on your kaiser. This is the big news of the century ! Two big thums up
But I just don't understand how on earth you got to such all-embracing conclusion that "everyone seems to be having issues with flashing the Orange Branded Kaiser".
This is one of the strangest claims (made in someone's FIRST post) ever posted on kaiser rom dev thread.
As on Orange UK user who has flashed numerous roms on his orange branded TyTN_II (aka kaiser) with unspeakably "less" issues/problems than US/Australian/Malaysian/Germanan/Mars(!!) kaiser users , I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about mate !
Does that "everyone" include you and perhaps a friend of yours ? !!
no offence my friend, but don't you think it would be better to spend some time on the forum before shooting such generalization in the first post??
cheers
Yeah, fair enough that was a generalisation - my appologies! I'll put it down to my excitement of thinking i was a hero for fixing it after it was in bootloader for days! I just read that there seemed to be a lot of issues if you tried flashing it as there is a possibility that the phone will lock you out completely - I have heard of people entering their IMEI number in but not quite sure about it - and this seemed to be a general theme across forums...i probably just read old posts!
Anyway, it was just a thanks than any kind of technical advice! like i said in my post, i got all of the ROMS tools etc from XDA so cheers. There is also a radio rom, the original orange one is 1.65.16.65 which is on here too. I've read that this is the radio shipped with the HTC WM6.1 ROM and orange just used it in their build anyway?
The first time i tried flashing it I didn't want to risk trying Olipro's unlocker, no offence, as it said it changed the Radio which i read was the cause of the issues..but after being stuck in the splash screen for days that annoyingly said "smart mobility"..not so smart when it's a fancy paperweight.. i found out how to get into bootloader and i flashed the Original Orange rom back, and used the unlocker. All worked fine! The only issue was that i use a VPN for work and it wouldn't load the server web pages properly. Managed to fix this after somebody told me about using Schap's AdvancedConfig and changing the UserAgent. again, thanks!
So keep up the good work, you provide hope for plebs like me.
I have searched and searched no answers, am using the radio that was with duttys, no other problems apart from forwarding text messages, seems to spam, try it yourself??.....
Hello,
I'm planning to get the xda serra - can I treat it like a htc branded touch pro and follow the rom and radio update instructions available here? or will i need to do different things?
Also are the sim unlock instructions same as a htc branded touch pro?
Could someone let me know.
Thanks.
I've just bought a serra but i'm scared to do anything with it.
could someone answer the question made by spark.
so no Serra users out there with cooked roms?
ive done it and its fine so far installed one rom 8 times with the updates,read the wiki and you will be fine,read about hard spl and read about it good-read twice if your not sure then the world is your oyster.just remember that if when you plug it it usb and it doesnt connect you can put it into bootloader mode and install a different rom if active sync doesnt work right.read about the differnet roms out there.
and keep checking the forum for updates etc.
best of luck and remember read about it before you do anything.
if your on o2 it should be unlocked anyway mine is, just use hard spl (hard spl for touch pro)for it dont use any other type eg... for htc diamond,touch etc as its only ment for the 1 model i think(iam i right guys).
Thank you for the answer (its given me the confidence to go buy one).
I'm going to get the Serra some time next week (now that i know the touch pro cooked roms will work). I'll probabily use the ROMeOS² version as it looks nicely cut down.
Yes, I'm using a cooked ROM on my Serra. Works a treat.
After reading all your replys i'm gouing to finally use a cooked rom on my serra.
I (like spark, sort of) have got a serra but never did anything with it. I never knew if i could just treat it like a touch pro (now i do).
Is there a original serra rom out there incase i need to put back back to its original state for warranty reasons? - i've browsed through the rom section but cant seem to see any.
The original XDA Serra ROM is available - see the link in the wiki.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Raphael_WM6.1_ROMs
I did try a different ROM on my original XDA Serra - basically the original HTC ROM, but I did have lots of problems with GPS. It did turn out to be a hardware problem and my device has been exchanged, but until I am confident every feature is fully working I'm not going to change the ROM again. Plus, other issues my original XDA Serra had (such as device.exe errors on keyboard slide out, random freezes, running slowly) dont' seem to be issues on the new one.
See my signature - the O2 ROM only stayed on my device briefly - it was OK but GPS lock was a nightmare (although I see O2 have issued a fix now). I will be cooking my own once I get a little time, but found the PROven roms to be good bases.
My Touch Pro is a uk vodafone branded one, their branding of the TP absolutely sucks so, like my Kaiser, I have customised it.
However, I can't quite get it where I want it which is effectively the stock htc theme *.tsk and TF3D with the 'globe' internet tab, 'green' toggles on the comm manager and green highlight focus.
I have installed LantisOS TF3D with HD Contracts which gives me everything but the above mentioned.
I have searched and searched on this site but cannot quite find the tweaks that I would like. I don't want to flash another ROM as this is beyond my capability, I tried a number of routes to get what I want, I have tried;
tlr-manila
12aeon manila
Both do the same as the Lantis OS TF3D, they don't modify the internet tab or the comm manager or the highlight focus.
I have also tried using a theme installing using Diamond TF3D Config, still the same issue. I have also tried the following programmes too;
manila customizer
uitweak
Still the same
So, any help would be much appreciated beer tokens can be made available too.
Flashing a new rom is easier than it sounds. The guys here make things much more difficult than they actually are. I have the Vodafone TP and am using NATF's Standard 4.7 ROM. I followed these instructions to flash it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448008
Agreed. My Touch Pro is my first WinMo device & I've only had it for 2 months. It must be on its 7th or 8th custom rom by now. Just dooooo it!
Take it step by step & you won't have a hassle - HardSPL -> Custom ROM -> new radio/rilphone.dll & you're sorted. Just don't flash a GSM ROM to a CDMA device and vice versa & you'll be fine.
Thanks for the help chaps, will have a look.
Ok, have decided for the moment not to change the ROM so still looking for help please.
Hi,
I have a vodafone branded HTC - though I didn't get it from vodafone.
I use ROMeOS and that gives me the "normal" touchflo tab buttons (though I now use IphoneToday)
I'm only a noob and I managed to flash my phone following those instructions (make sure you backup your stuff though) Plus I'm a girl, so it must be easy!
Yes... yes, you are Elaine Mead
Not to worry, acceptance IS after all the first step. You're well on your way. If you pop down to the southern bit of Africa, I'll guide you through the process.
It's really not that big a deal and it adds the novelty of having a 'new' phone every couple of weeks. Just read up a bit in the ROMs forum and once you feel comfortable, then read some more. And if something does go awry don't freak out - there are a lot of smart chaps on this forum.
Case in point: Day after I got mine I hurriedly flashed a Touch HD radio to the phone. Suffice it to say that the phone didn't appreciate this much & I feared I sorted myself a very expensive paperweight. But after I dug out the trusty Nokia N95 and popped on here to READ some more, I got it sorted again.
Then again, I only made the mistake because I didn't read enough beforehand.
*DISCLAIMER*
Although I am encouraging you to take the plunge, please don't hold me personally responsible if you do c#$k up your phone... Oh, and get the stock ROM/SPL downloaded as well. If something does mess up, or you need to return the phone for warranty purposes you can easily revert back to factory spec.
