Folks,
Did anyone experience that if you set the "Error Report" to 'enable' and do a soft reset, or simply turn the device off and then on again, then it goes back to the 'disable' state?
I have also noticed something awkward with the app I use the most: MagiCall from Mobiion. For some reason, after either a soft reset or turning off the phone, when it comes back, I have to re-enter the license key.
It never happened on my any of my previous WM6 devices (Elf, Niki and Tytn II). It does not happen with my wife's Excalibur either.
TIA,
-Feaps
MagiCall stores registration information in HKEY_CURRENT_USER key.
It looks like your device does not implement Power-Down Flush. Here is a small tool to help you flush HKCU key to persistent storage.
Cool
Thanks a bunch. I could not stand using my phone without MagiCall!

I recently got a Qtek 8300 (similar to an i-Mate SP5m). It's working pretty well and I'm pleased with it. However, one thing I wish I could correct is that when I have my phone in a case, slightly touching the front of the case causes the locked keyboard to unblank the screen. I have an eBook reader so I have the screen stay on for a longer-than-usual time. The problem is that unblanking the screen for no reason wastes battery power. Half the time when I glance down at the phone case, the screen is on.
Is there any way to get only the left soft key, or any other key, to unblank the screen to unlock the keyboard, and have all the other keys ignored? Thanks.

I'd be very curious to get a solution to this problem too. Even the Automatic Keylock utility seems to end up calling the canned WM5 keylock routine, which turns on the light whenever you touch a locked key...
I really liked the way WM2003SE locked the keys on a PocketPC phone. With that, the light stayed off until I pressed the power button. The beauty of the power button is that it's recessed and won't be pressed by a carrying case. Plus, I always knew where the power button was - even in the dark.

This is a BAD flaw in the software build.
Has anyone found a fix to this?
I do know that the PPC version of WM5 has a checkbox somewhere in settings that actually allows you to disable all keys except the power button, when the keylock is applied. So there's got to be some extra registry entries on the PPC. Anyone got a Wizard or similar rhey can take a look at the registry and see?
I am SURE standby time would be GREATLY improved if we could invoke this on the Smartphone platform.......

From my Wizard (XDA Mini-S), turning the "lock all keys" option on and off, changes this value:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd]
"DefaultKeyLock"=dword:00000000 (unlocked)
"DefaultKeyLock"=dword:00000001 (locked)
unfortunately, there is no "Keybd" key on my Tornado (Xda IQ, specifically) so I suspect this won't work. Shame...

I had my universal put in my car holder, and apparently it was too snug and it held the backlight button clicked, when i had just soft reset.
The normal boot image came on, but this time a new menu appeared, instead of loading the OS!
It gave me 3 Options:
Enable KILT: NO
Clean Registry Hive: NO
Format Storage: NO
Controlling the menu is really strange:
the UP key scrolls the menu,
the DOWN key enables/disables the selected option,
and the ACTION key appears to start the selected options.
Not knowing how to control the menu, i accedently turned on the KILT option and clicked the action key, which gave me a new submenu, letting me choose the KILT transport method (USB, etc..), and KILT mode (Active or Passive)
i searched for "KILT" on the other forums, and its already a known option apparently, on the hermes forums especially.
They appear to use it to flash corrupted radio versions ("NO GSM" messages), and for other purposes also, mainly rescuing a bricked phone!
I can see how the "Clean registry hive" can be a useful option though, like when you screw up registry entries, making your os unable to load - you can clean the registry before doing a hard reset, so maybe you'd have a chance to save and backup your data.
Can anyone tell us more about this menu, or the KILT mode?
This menu was already known
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=865099&postcount=26
That post is from 10-01-2006
I think it's even mentioned in the Wiki page:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Technical
Although it says camera+reset, think it should be backlight+reset
hmm, i see.
i don't know why i haven't found it earlier when i searched the forum.
but is there anything useful that can be done with the KILT options, as they do with hermes?
KITL is usefull if the OS wont boot, that about it.
it allows you to see the wince kernel log while it boots so if you have a phone that wont boot this can help you find out why ;D
No GSM!!! can KITL help?
this seems to be a good news for me....
i'm having this problem of NO GSM on my UNIVERSAL on startup. so it is bricked now. Can this KITL help in getting my Radio ROM to life again???

well there's this thread i found, but its for hermes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=300096&highlight=kitl+pb
be careful, hermes and universal are very different.
read this to get information only, i really dont recommend trying this on your universal without someone who know what he's doing helping you.
good luck
anyone can tell me how to disable this menu in the booting?
just dont press the buttons
I uninstalled FunContacts, did multiple soft resets, cleaned with MemMaid, and my Phone Left Soft Key that says "Contacts" is still looking for FunContacts and gives me an error message that FC cannot be found. I emailed FC, however, no response. Softkeys work fine on the Today Screen. All the remapping programs out there just identify and do the Today Screen Soft Keys.
Does anyone have info on remapping the softkeys on the Phone Screen?
Thanks in advance if you do.
This worked for me, had the same problem:
Goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSCONTACTS
# Change "String 1" value from "\Program Files\FunContacts\Funcontacts.exe" to ":MSPOUTLOOK contacts".
Make sure that you don't add the "" on the new entry.
Still need help on Phone Screen Soft Buttons....
Thanks for the fix, however; I had already completed a hard reset.
I still want to change the "Contacts" soft button on the Phone Screen to SPB Contacts vs. the build in contacts. I have Sbp Shell and love it, however; it does not change the phone's soft key for contacts.
In the registry entry you mentioned, it is totally blank. I have tried to a string that leads to the Spb Contacts, however, the registry editor will not accept it.
If anyone knows how to change the Phone's (Not the Today Screen) soft keys, please help.
Thanks!!
I know it is my fault, I was using the Advanced Configuration Tool and thought I could make the screen on the x7510 more sensitive. The result was the opposite and the screen now won't respond to taps at all. So no possibility of screen input.
Without that, I can't use the same tool to put the settings back to what they were before, as it requires a screen tap to commit changes before re-booting. The absence of soft keys on the keyboard makes for problems here.
For the same reason, I can't hard reset using the Clear Storage tool, as that also requires a screen tap. I can't use Resco Registry Editor as that requires screen taps too.
So I am in somewhat of a quandary, happy to hard reset and start again, but no way of doing it that I can see.
Could I re-load the ROM? Someone uploaded the WWE version, but it unzips to three .raw files, which I have no idea what to do with.
Help please!! I need this as I am on holiday, I may be slow coming back to any replies, we are in Laos, where comms are, shall we say, a little slow, and we are travelling about. the first chance i get to sort this out I will use though.
Thanks for any help anyone can give.

If you have access to a PC onto which you may install software, then you can download and install MyMobiler, which is freeware. Get it here: www.mymobiler.com.
This will allow you to control your device from the PC, using the mouse, so you'd be able to make the changes you need to make.
Good luck!

For reference, I had this same problem yesterday. Didn't know of this thread at the time but managed to sort it out. It is completely possible to use the "clear storage" option in Settings>>System navigating using the keyboard. Fn>>OK brings up the start menu..navigate to settings using the cursor keys..press enter to select. Use TAB and cursor keys to navigate around across the tabs to "System" and again from there to "Clear Storage". Select whether to wipe the data stored on the device, on the flash disk or both using cursors/TAB, type "1234" and press the "OK" key. Done.
I had even managed to configure hardware buttons to the left/right soft keys to try to revert the settings in Advance Config, but it seems the effect of completely losing touch screen functionality is irreversible
Or you could obviously use the other method above which I didn't think to look for!! Like I said, just for reference. Might be useful to someone.
TIP: Don't change "Pressure Threshold" in Advanced Config to "Very High" as it will cause your touch screen to stop responding and the only way to get it back is by a hard reset.
Hey all, just got my TP2 and I'm really enjoying it. Its a hell of a lot nicer than the Titan and i760 that I've been swapping between the past two years. Quick question though:
Is there a command somewhere in WM6.1 that will allow me to soft-reset the device? I really don't want to wear out the plastic cover on the back by taking it on and off over and over again to press the reset button.
Thanks in advance,
Dustin
Someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe if you power it down with the red "end call" button and then power it back up with the same button it is equivalent to a soft reset. But if you are looking for a shortcut in windows to do that you can try the various task managers out there like pbar, wisbar lite, ect. They have soft reset options with a very small footprint on the memory.
You are correct. And technically speaking, using the power on/off commits all changes to memory.
I used SPB Mobile Shell 2.0 on my old phones that had a shortcut for it, but I wasn't sure if HTC had an equivalent. I'm really debating on switching back to SPB, but I hear that MS 3.0 isn't perfectly functional with the TP2 yet.
Thanks for your help!
Check this out. It gives you the option to soft reset on the norification when you hold down the power button. I like it.

Try ActionScreen
ActionScreen does this by popping up a selection screen when you hold down the power button for 3 seconds. There are many actions to choose from and one of them is Soft Reset. I've been running it for a few days and it seems to work fine and be unobtrusive.
ActionScreen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547432
I think there is a option on the setting manual "wipe all memory" or something like that.
On mine, by holding down the "End Call" button for 3 or 4 seconds, I get a prompt with the following options.
Display Off
Turn Off
Soft Reset
Hard Reset (icon on upper right (a little scary))
Plus icons for
Device Lock Settings
Setting timer actions
Setting Today Icon for this prompt
The prompts displays as Touch Pro 2 Shut Down Option
I have quite a bit of 3rd party software, but I believe this is native to the device. Try it and see what happens.
I don't get those, but I am on a custom rom. I have:
Turn Airplane Mode On
Lock Device
Terminate Data Connection
Set Vibrate
Settings...
sorry double post.
As mentioned these are the two most common:

I used XDAshutdown.

Here is the best skin IMO.

I have attached all here
For applying skins for XDA shutdown:
Over write the files in this folder assuming you installed to a storage card:
