How much free RAM left for typical WM6 devices? - General Topics

I am currently using a iPAQ 112 which is running WM6 Classic, ie without phone function.
However the free RAM is only 28Mb out of 64Mb after start up and average around 20Mb with no programe running.
Is it normal?
If I never remember wrongly, phones like Hermes running WM6 Pro have more free RAM which is around 40Mb, it's kind of weird right, as WM6 Pro have more processes running at background for phone functions.
Hope someone can give me some idea, thanks.

Running ttran's open touch v2.7 biggy I usually float around 23-25mb of ram. Wing specs read I *could* in a perfect world get up to 64 megs.

it's 64mb for everything like on windows things in the os which startup take some
today items
and stuff started in \windows\startup

Why does services.exe take up so much memory on WM6

I have a Dopod C730 running WM6 and a Blackjack running WM5. Out of the box, services.exe takes 11.5MB on the C730 vs 400K on the Blackjack. This leaves very little memory for anything else on the C730.
I have already killed the Sqmupload and Windows Live services, but that didn't make much difference.
Does anybody know how to reduce the size of services.exe by several MBs???

Memory Available

Hi,
I have a question about a total memory of Cruise with Windows Mobile 6.1 Original ROM on board!
If i'm going to system---memory i can see that the total of memory is 84,71MB and available 40.71 at startup!!!
But a Touch Cruise have a 128MB RAM???
The Cruise got 128MB of RAM not FREE RAM.
When the device woke up, WinMo ate some, and every softs which were launch at start drain the memory.
That's normal.

Which Windows Mobile 6.5 Version left highest amount of ram after start?

If I am honest, i cant look through this many different 6.5 Versions now available.
Can anybody with experience in this regard please tel me which 6.5 Version left most ram after start? ...and maybe which is currently the overall best rom available.
I dont need optical gimmicks, just poor performance and working touchflo in the applications like internet explorer.
Is there any performance gain between 6.1 and 6.5 (touchflo better maybe?, multiple today screens?) ?
Many thanks
well, I´ve been playing for several months with Cracing ´s rom. Installed spb shell 3, voice command and vito sms and theres nearly no more ram left to any reasonable big program....although 6.5 is smooth, we need more ram!
what about other roms??
(the biggest drawback of 6.5 is the lack of tweaking the memory slider between program/storage, That, would have solved my memory issue)
regards!

Thanks for reply.
Storage is flash and programm memory is ram, different type of memory - so that will be imposible forever though.
Whats about the touchflo, are there any differences between 6.1 and 6.5?
ups! but i saw that slider in wm5! (maybe I dreamt it!).
I thought all internal flash memory was shared between program and storage.
Sorry for the stupid question; What is the touch flo???
I just installed new rom and everything worked fine!
I use spb shell as my finger o.s. With voice command and vito sms left me all together with 5mb free.
Now that i kill nearly all "3rd parties" progz, i have 13.5mb free.
No doubt

Maybe you are thinking of PocketPC before Windows Mobile.
I had an HP Jornada 548 running PocketPC (WinCE 3.0) for many years, and it had the slider you speak of. But all of that internal storage was RAM. The division was between RAMdisk and program RAM. Whenever the Jornada ran out of battery it would need a cold reset. All wm5, wm6, etc instead use flash for storage memory, and RAM for program memory, so no slider is possible.
I agree with the post before this, that the Ham3r wm6.5 ROM, although marked pre-pre-pre-alpha, leaves the most free memory, and nobody has reported any fatal flaws with that ROM. If free memory is your top priority, use that ROM.

Benefits of upgrading

Hi
I have just received an xdaII mini and have been browsing these forums looking at the different roms available. I am just wondering, besides obviously being a newer release, what benefits the updated rom - say Cotulla's wwe03 - brings to the magician (in its default 2003se setup). Is it more stable, better features apps?
Cheers
2 words. Persistent Storage. This is the main reason (but not the only reason and there's a lot) why you should abandon WM2003SE and upgrade to Cotulla's ROM. This means that if ever you drain your battery, you would not lose all the data (e.g. contacts, appointments.. etc.) in your Magician.
make your xda mini beautiful
You can enjoy great applications and launchers when you upgraded your ROM. Many applications are running only if your ROM is wm5, wm6, wm6.1 or wm6.5.
Try to use spb mobile shell and see the difference in your xda mini.
Thanks for replies. What about memory issues. The XDAII mini only has 64 mb of ROM and 64 of RAM. Is this enough to run wm6? Do users get out of memory errors and is it stable...will I need to reset the phone regularly?
Well I held my breath and flashed wwe 3.03 to the o2 and it seems very quick and stable. As mentioned, my biggest concern was with memory management. Is anyone using external bluetooth gps devices with this?
Cheers
WM6.1 runs great even if the Magician has only 64MB memory. Basic rule is never to install too much applications in the internal memory which will slow down the unit. If possible try to install them in memory card. The good news is since you installed 3.03 then you now have SDHC capability.
As for your second question it would be better if you read the thread for the version you installed. If you can't find the answer then don't hesitate to ask you questions since there are a lot of members who will be happy to help you.
Have fun with your "new" magician!

Which ROM gives the biggest amount of free ram?

Hi.
I'm using a really beautiful SPV M5000 device for about 24 hours and i'm having serious problems. My previous device was a blueangel with 128mb ram and now with the universal i feel very limited.
I'm currently using tomal's 8.5 rom (wm 6.1) and i'm having about 26mb of free ram. This amount of free ram makes the device almost unusable. I can't use opera 10 mobile even with one tab open. I used to have about 3 tabs open in blueangel.
How are you dealing with this issue? Which rom leaves the biggest free amount of ram?
I'm not willing to do a hardware update of ram to the device.
If the old fashioned way of memory handling in windows mobile 2003 was possible (HTC alpine etc.) the Universal could be much better. Could a page file (like in desktop computers) be used in windows mobile?
Thanks in advance!....

WM5 will give you the biggest amount of free RAM
I've found a much better browser than opera 10.
Netfront v4 ...
Universal has a big screen with a high resolution...
Opera is a "small screen"-oriented web browser. My universal is now perfect..
I'm using WM6.1 CE 21055.1.6.8 by Ngochoangimsat.

Yeah... at first I like those version of ROM by Ngochoangimsat, but too bad there's no Internet Sharing, or can't share my internet connection to other devices.
