I haven't tried this, but I found this in my notes from a while ago:
For those who do not like the Touch Dialer and want the stock WM6 dialer. Go to HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin change Enabled to 0, and soft reset. The stock dialer has a scroll list of your previous calls on the dialer.

I am looking for a better phone dialer and contact manager than the original. Any suggestion ?
Try Inesoft Phonex. Not free, but its really good. Another one would be Resco Contacts manager, again not free, but also good, especially coz u can link it with Facebook.

Oh yeah, forgot bout them. iContactBE (BurtEdition) along with iDialer, good combination!
Thank you for your answers. I tried to install the new dialer (iDialer) but the hardware phone button opens the built-in dialer while the touch phone button on today screen opens the new one. Do I have to uninstall the built-in dialer ? How can I do this since I don't want to use both ?

As far as i know, u cant disable the default dialer without some difficult configuration within windows, which i dont know. (maybe a more knowledgable member can help u)sorry.
But with the others that i mentioned, they do override the default dialer. iehonex.
I really like the cool looks of iDialer. The same problem with Resco trial though.
I also tried the iContactsBE but I think it is not suitable for the screen resolution of my phone (letters are too small, almost unreadable).

Exactly what I needed. Works perfectly. Thank you !
i recently downloaded PocketShield only to find that i didnt like it. in the process of using it, it asked me to change the default dialer to its own dialer. I uninstalled PocketShield but the dial pad is still there. How do i convert back to the original default dial pad?

Reinstall PS, choose the good dialer and deinstall PS....
you don't have to disable the HTC dialer and use the windows one. I'm using pocketshield with the htc dialer and its fine.

Disable it the same way you enabled it, thats all!
I'm wondering what is everyone using since the cm6 dialer doesn't search contacts as you type their name in T9 format. Or is there a setting I'm missing.

Dialer one off the market has all of those sense features
Yeah, I've tried it but it's slow and doesn't have any of the tabs on top like call log, contacts, favorites.
I'm not sure why the developer didn't choose to replace the default dialer with his and instead added a dialer. This creates a problem because after dialing and conversation is over the default dialer is shown.
I started this thread thinking the CM6 developer responsible for dialer app would take this as a request to the default dialer if anything.
Can we install the old sense dialer if we have the apk or will it not work since it isn't a sense rom?
I usually just hit the search button once I open the dialer to find the contact I'm looking for.
And as for returning to the dialer after a call, there is a setting in the preferences for this. There's also a setting in the main call settings for returning to the call log after a call.

It won't work: no sense apps will work on AOSP since there's not HTC framework.

turn off the "Display contacts photo" setting and that should take care of the slowness. it doesn't have tabs at the top, but you can swipe left and right on the list to change views.

Thanks, that helped with the speed I didn't know about the swiping either.
What about the buttons. Don't you guys find them to be too much against each other? I like the default dialer better. It "seems" like you are less likely to hot the wrong key.
Hello guys,
I replaced HTC dialer with simple dialer from playstore. But when someone calls me and i have a missed call, there are 2 notifications for missed calls. One from htc dialer and one from simple dialer. Also, many times when i try to open the simple dialer, the htc dialer opens for 1-2 seconds and then back to the simple dialer. Can anyone knows how i can fully replace the htc dialer?
Did you set your new dialer as the default dialer?
