Hello,
Do you know any good software for creating PDF files right on the mobile device? I've found FluidPDF, but I was wondering if there are others (cheaper or free).
Thanks
I have very little experience creating PDFs, but on the rare occasions that I have created PDFs I used two different methods...Adobo Photoshop, which is clearly not an option for you, and web-based PDF creators. As in you upload a word document and it outputs a PDF. Not exactly an elegant solution, but it would prob work and there are many such free websites around. Use Word Mobile to create a doc and then upload it. You could get creative and create a local website on your device with the upload parameters, that way you wouldn't have to do as much browsing.
Yeah, I know I can do it that way too, but is not really an option for me. Thanks

Hope someone can help me out. I'm looking for a note database to replace PhatNotes, since they don't seem to be making any progress on porting their product to Android.
So far I have identified Note Everything and Evernote as the two most likely candidates. But neither of them entirely fulfills my need. I want something that has a desktop (PC) version, but also syncs to my phone.
Evernote has the desktop feature, but requires an online account for which they charge after 'x' amount of space. That doesn't work for me, since I already have a SugarSynch account. I shouldn't have to pay extra to get access to my data. I also don't like the idea that my notes are in someone else's hands... it's a "privacy thing" for me.
Note Everything is a standalone product, but has no desktop component.
I'm hoping that someone will tell me that the file format for Evernote is the same between desktop and phone, in which case I can avoid having to pay twice to access my data.
Anyone have thoughts on this?
If you're looking at Evernote, look at Springpad. It has a VERY nice web interface and the Android interface is quite good and pretty similar to the web interface.
Boy, it'd really help if people would read posts thoroughly.
I'm fairly new to developing and want to code an ereader. Could someone point me in the right direction as far as reading the different ereader file types.
I received some help elsewhere but would still appreciate more input. The answer was:
"Most e-readers use a prorietary format. There are, however some open source formats out there.
Here is a list of all of the popular ebook formats out there (both DRM-restricted and open source): Comparison of e-book formats - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It might also be beneficial to create your own XML-based format so that you can get right to writing your app. Otherwise, you will need to look into the file structore (internal byte representation) of the various formats you want to support. Catering towards all of the available formats (along with your own format) would be ideal, however this would ultimately slow down dev time. It's a decision you'll need to make on your own, as a developer, but keep that in mind."
Does anyone know of a PDF reader that allows for macros? I'm an engineer and my schematics are in pdf but have macros that allow you to click on a link that allows you to jump to another page with that specific signal. Would be useful for my work use.

Hi Everyone,
I'm working on a prototype with a few guys and gals and we are using the Nexus S. In this project we need to open text documents on our smartphones.
One of the team members has the very strong opinion that the text documents must all be converted into jpegs. The reasoning for this is because all smartphones nowadays have cameras and the necessary software to open pics. In turn, this will enable and allow for a positive customer interaction. Your ready to go straight out the gate!
As for myself, I'm of the opposite opinion. I believe using the jpeg file format is not the best thing to do. I think it would be better to use PDF or.doc formats as a few examples. I also don't believe it's a big deal for the customer to download from the Market the required software to view such documents if they are of interest to you. I also believe that Android libraries contain the information You need to open PDF from server side and present it in browser? This is true isn't it?
Putting text documents onto jpegs seems too strange for me. Especially since each document will need to be converted to a correct font size and font type, so that it appears readable on the device. To me, this is a senseless way of burning up valuable time and human resources for no reason or true value. But I was told You have to do this if you don't want the customer to scroll from right to left when opening and viewing the document.
So what says You people? I would really appreciate the feedback you have to offer in this situation.
Thank you very much for your time today.

JPEG is probably faster and smaller but PDF is fine also. Honestly wouldn't matter much unless the documents are crucial for the app.
I can't imagine anyone wanting to scroll a text doc from left to right just to be able to read it if using jpeg!
PDF on the other hand wraps text on the screen as you enlarge. No scrolling out of screen. This makes much more sense to me.
Are there any sites dedicated specifically for artists on a mobile platform (either IOS or android). Im a long time sketcher but decided to move onto digital medium in the hope that it would improve my options in colouring and painting images. I'm slowly getting used to sketching on my note but was hoping to find tips and guides on drawing on a tablet computer. Most of my searches have given me results on PC/ MAC and wacom stylus using photoshop.
I've started to put together a spreadsheet with a list of all the apps available on android and what their functionality and limitations are. various layer options. resolution. tools etc etc. I'll be uploading it to google docs this evening and sharing it in the hope that I can get others to help me populate it. I've bought a fair few apps now and have been disapointed once I realised it cant do x, y or z. Plus its difficult to keep track of updates that include new features. I'm hoping this table will allow me (and others) to build a suite of apps that best cover their personal requirements and stremeline their workflow.
I cant find any site that is aimed specifically at artists on a mobile platform. Can anyone advise of any? All I see is the odd subforum here or there.
I'm thinking of starting a new site specifically aimed at artists on a mobile platform with links to various resources, reviews on apps, a forum specifically for art related discusion etc etc...
would anyone be interested in helping me? I dont have any experience in putting together sites and am currently looking at a free one on webs.com or something.
One of the things I want to acheive is a comparison chart between all the drawing apps available on android and some more detail behind them other than whats on the play store (like in the attachment).
