Page Pool question - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

Hello all
When you say in your signature "32mb pp" or "20mb pp" is this something we have to set individually or it is already set by the ROM?
Thanks

Each from has a default pagepool, for instance Dutty's V4 rom is 24MB page pool. Diffrent pagepool has different effect. For the Kaiser, you have to change the Rom's Page Pool before flash it.

thank you for your reply, too late now, I have flashed 2 days ago

On this forum... You can always flash again... trying to get more speed or better features is what it is all about

Yup...gotta change the page pool before flashing. I am running Dutty's No.7b w/32MB page pool.

I'm running a 50mb pp and it is awesome!

Not in the Kaiser it doesn't... in Hermes and others yes.

how would I go about changing my page pool to improve performance?
also, Is the performance increase significantly noticable?
one more thing, how do I check what my current page pool is?
thanks!!!!

here is the program

Would there be problems with running it even higher then? I noticed it tops out at 64mb, why not just use that?

Personal preference and some benchmarks (SPB Benchmark, SKTools etc). Test extensively at different settings till you find your ideal one. It's a combination of the feel of the ROM afterwards + the actual benchmark score. From personal experience I can tell you "Speed Perceived = Speed Achieved". So the highest benchmark score may not neccessarily "feel" the fastest, but other users may have had different experiences.
Dutty seems to have settled on 24MB and I can confirm his ROMs "fly" at that setting.
Quentin (Q-Mobile) ran extensive tests and settled on 32MB with tweaked file system cache/font settings.
So remember its not just the PP you can tweak. Always use KaiserTweak and/or Schap's Advanced Configuration Tool to tweak your settings further. I have found my ideal settings and always always tweak any new ROM I flash to these.
If you hit "custom" button you can even go beyond 64MB on the pagepool changer tool...but yes there is a performance utility curve: beyond a certain setting you do not get any incremental performance from pushing the PP to its limit...I don't know what that limit is. I have done enough tests of my own and settled happily on 50MB...

Am currently using udK's 6.3 R0, used it on DCS v0.4, on Schap's WM6.1 beta, Schap's WM6 v4.31, Q-Mobile v1.2, Dutty's v3, Dutty's v4 RTM, L26 WM6 WWE HTCHK Ver.1, Alex's v5 Home 1.81, SNE v2.0...tried them all and consistently this setting just breaks the speed barrier time and again...as per my perception...with File System Cache = 8192, Filter Cache = 32768, and Font = 131072 or a slight variation thereof... again this may be device- and installed software-dependent. I usually have quite a lot of apps installed, including: Resco Explorer 6.17, TomTom 6, Calligrapher 8.6, Pocket Informant 8 Evo; full suite of SPB apps (Diary, Weather, Finance, Shell, Backup, GPRS Monitor); S2U2 + S2V, SBSH Pocket Weather, Pocket e-Sword, QuickVerse 2007 Platinum...ah the list goes on and on...

Thanks for the explanation, I'll have to do some testing!

Yeah, I suggest SPB Benchmark or SKTools...you can do dipstick tests that are quick and will give you some directional results, and once you think you've narrowed it, then you can run extensive tests on the 2 or 3 final settings to give you "the whole nine yards" as the saying goes...

Fastest Kaiser Cooked ROM in the world?!

Hi everyone,
Done a search that yielded inconclusive results. My question is:
What is the fastest kaiser cooked rom made so far, based on user comparisons and most importantly benchmarking?
Please state it as clearly as possible e.g.
1. ROM1
Benchmark results xxx.xxx
I feel that... comments...
2. ROM2
Benchmark results xxx.xxx
I feel that... not as fast as ROM1 because... comments...
Thank you very much for the input, I hope this will be very informative for kaiser owners who are thinking of flashing a rom but don't know which one to choose since there are so many!
I am actually running Dutty's v1.1 dualtouch rom, the latest one, and still experienced the occasional 30 second freeze which was frustrating.
Gerald
Dutty's SupaLite Rom at http://www.cinetsystems.com/xda/index.php?path=Lite+Roms/
Sorry no benchmaks... not yet anyway.
Its Custel 2.1
Its custel 2.1 non touch version.
Dutty Dual Touch 1.1
pagepool change to 24mb.
no benchmark.
speed is acceptable, as compare with most of the cooked rom
but definitely much much slower than my artemis

See my signature for the pagepool changer. Very easy to use. Open the program. Click on the ROM you want to change the pagepool on and select the page pool you want to change it to. You must do this before you flash.

Crap! So this means after I change my pool I have to reflash whatever ROM I currently have/want on my phone?

Sorry for the thread-jack but it does pertain to performance.
If I do the following:
1.) Make a backup using sprite backup (Dutty's 7b for example)
2.) Flash the same rom with a changed page pool (again, Dutty's 7b)
3.) Restore my backup
Does that in effect nullify the changed page pool? Or is the page pool buried deep enough that restoring from a sprite backup will not change it?
Thanks
-Brett.
We all in search of a fastest and max. features and most stable ROM.
I have chasing these ROMs myself for last few months.
Something I experienced quite surprised me and I would rather have people starting thinking of discuss their experience about it.
I have an old AdamExec which I didn't think was that fast so I bought a Touch. Touch felt a little faster but as soon as I load it with applications found out it has very little storage memory. Flash with a custom BigStorage ROM, speed never be the same ... not there.
Then saw a Sprint Phone which was quite fast, so as soon as AT&T got its Tilt, I bought that too. I flash the Tilt continuously for past two months. I didn't find the speed was that fantastic, it is acceptable, but not quite what I want.
Going back to AtomExec, it was on WM5, slow, flashed with a WM6 ROM cooked by Chartreux. Wow, it was suddenly came alive, faster than my Tilt. No waiting of half to 2 secs or 3 secs for every screen. It is always like instantaneous to half second. You can alway try Start -> Setting -> System right after the machine reboot you can sense the speed. Open up Windows directory is another good test. I don't care about bench numbers. I really had no complain on the speed of the AtomExec then but the machine freezes more than I expected with that ROM, besides the Bluetooth and Camera still had some problems. Also as soon as I installed more softwares, it starts to slow down.
Avoiding some applications probably will help lot more than keep searching for faster ROM. I believe getting a clean ROM first, install all the applications under its Program Files directory instead of Windows directory. There are almost 3,000 files, big and small in Windows directory, way more than that of Windows XP system. The HTC home itself contribute to tons of little files no wonder people said it was one of the apps that makes the machine slow. The EndKey also produces a tones of small files. I also suspect the Battery Status also has some effect on the performance.
My point is some applications may take a lot of resource and/or continuously running in the background and eating up the performance of the machine. Avoiding resource hogging semi-useful applications maybe a better move that trying to splitting hair with each good customer ROMs.
Okay I get it. Thanks for the information jychan28!
so basically lite roms + lesser programs = best performance.

This would not affect page pool...things you can restore from a backup never touch ROM files/settings.
Insane benchmarks!!! Someone else please test?
I was amazed when I saw jpope's benchmark posted in my ROM thread. Compare it against cashn's thread with his benchmark results and you'll be amazed as I was.
I'd perform the tests myself, but I've noticed that people tend to place less credibilty when the ROM chef publishes them.
So is anyone else willing to test & publish the results on my ROM to confirm these insane benchmarks???
Thanks in advance
it looks like the difference came from the file index.
maybe the storage card was different?
cpu and graphic indexes are very similar to other benchmarks

i don't know why my Dopod 577w runs out of battery so quick ? With WM6.1 Standard, it lasts around 2 days but now with this WM6.1 Pro, it is only 1 day.
Another bug is the wrong in battery status report. Sometimes it said the battery is about 70-80% but just a call (around 5 minutes), the phone is off because no battery left
anybody, please help

Thanks a lot Tomal! as always doing the best for all of us!
My request would be a ROM including this:
HTC home without freezing and wheather update working
WM7 theme
Advance config
The best speed as possible!!!
Messenger latest version without windows live
Office mobile
Some finger friendly keyboard
Opera the newest
A nice comm manager
TCPM
The minimal quantity of programs to run well (No games, search, help,
And I think this is not possible but you are the magician: A way to have 850mhz band to connect to 3G (As in Mexico is the band used for 3G)
Thanks a lot!
Cheers
Wow Tomal, that's very considerate of you. I'm sure you're now going to get as many flavours as there are replies!!
I love your v8.0 ROM. I think the only thing I add to your ROM is PocketCM (which I believe can't be added because of updating etc) and GPRS programs (Route66 etc).
However if I go into settings/system/about, I notice the memory differs (the ROM memory, not the free stuff). Why is that? Is is possible to make a ROM with more Memory?

with the last rom....
Cool!
After loading your roms I usually add:
TouchFlo_v1.4.1 + FTouchFloConfig_v0.9 -> without any graphics, i use this to enable finger scroling in all windows apps, like file explorer, comboboxs, lists etc
BatteryStatusExt.1.05 -> i only select the second row (Indicators) to see in the home screen and in windows bar the cpu usage, to know if the universal is working or not , i would like an app that only puts in the windows bar the cpu usage and the ram available (Wasn't that good to have one of our light indicators flashing when our cpu reaches 100%? almost like our PCs with the disk light? This is possible, one program that set the SD card like a usb disk used the lights to show activity...)
PJC_HTCHome -> it's working 100% (including weather) just missing the media player...
SRS_WOWHD_ARM -> tweak universal sound rock/classic etc
I'm happy with the new Windows Media Player in 8.0
I'm not happy with the contact manager, Not finger friendly...
I'm not happy with image viewer... zoom and other iphone capabilities
Happy with TCPMP, Total Comander, WKTask Manager, RegistryEditor, Pocket RAR, Messenger, Adobe Reader, Comm Manager, Advanced Config, Performance, SD Settings, USB to PC, Office, Battery indicator in the top of the screen
WTF do we need Time Sync... doesn't ActiveSync does that??
I often install QuickMenu_en_2.7 but this should be a simpler program
JAVA!!!!
OPERA!!!!
Tweaker for the velocity vs memory problem -> app that sets the pda to work how we need when we need with a simple reboot - is this possible?? (Tweak those memory eating things that makes wm faster, way to choose if we now(via reboot) want more velocity or more ram...)
Video Call (One idea, since we can't have VC in wm6 why not use a rom from wm5 and add the latest things? I know some things come with windows, but we could have a wm5 rom up to date)
One thing I would ask too is a counter of the kbs that we use in gprs/umts, we have a time counter but we are not paying by time but by kbs... (and better better was a way to filter msn traffic since here in Portugal we have free messenger 8) )
I'm happy with the black theme, but yes it would be good to be able to change
All and all I would like a Rom with the least things in RAM but with all the minimum features installed or in cabs (installed if there are tweaks fot them)
The most important thing for me is to use the pda with fingers and without precision so i can use it while walking, riding the train etc
If i remember other thing i'll tell
French Rom plz

a more vanilla ish rom with nothing except things like tie sync sd settings advanced config arcsoft mms..
that way people can add the things that they want after.. the things I listed are usually needed to set up the device. actully just mms and sd settings are really needed since cabs for everything else exist.. and arcsoft doesn't really like to be installed after the fact.

I think it should continue its work with the vc in wm6.x for uni. You do would realize the dream of many.
Thank you.
Clean of any osftware rom :with flashdik , max mem, stable.
Only add SMS,BT,SDHC, cam softwares
And multilanguage if possible
I would be happy with 7.7 minus MyMobiler, WkTask Manager, Bubble Breaker, PIE, WMP and other similarly useless bits and pieces that take space. So yep, 7.7 or 7.8 in vanilla would do me fine. Got everything else in .CABs anyway - Opera, Conduits Player, TouchFlo, All Black .tsk, Diamond apps and now testing SKYPE that works for 8.0 on 7.7.
And, of course, Video Call is on my Christmas wishlist....
Thank You so much, Tomal, love your ROMs. (We need kiss emoticon!)

[Release] JustStableV2 Build 5 Micro Edition (73+mb FREE storage | 32+MB of FREE RAM)

Version 2: Changelog:
4MB pagepool - almost 33mb of free RAM
Based off of JustStableV2's Build 5 (unreleased) - Everything updated in JustStableV2 Build 4 also in this build
Based off of 5.2.21048
More of the ULDR partition removed. Now it's COMPLETELY gone.
Still LZX compressed and stripped on non-essentials
Also included: IS versions. (Internet Sharing)
This is a version of JustStable with the following changes:
1. Stripped of ALL non-essential programs. (Including NetCF.)
2. LZX compressed
3. ULDR removed!!! A first for the Herald. This saves around 3MB that is normally used as storage for “windows updates” which are never released. lol
All in all you get:
74+mb FREE of Storage Space!
29-30MB FREE of RAM WITH a 6mb pagepool
Due to the removal of the ULDR, the pagepool CANNOT be changed. (Although, I haven’t tried using the old way of changing the pagepool…)
Get the newest version here. (Click on the JustROMs link.)
Warning: This HAS to be flashed through an SD card.
Let me be the first to say Thank you so much Ivan. This is the micro ROM I've been waiting for. I can't even describe this ROM in words yet. It's an extremely fast installation because it's so clean. With the latest ioLite Manila2D installed, it still runs 22MB of free RAM. This is the best you'll get I assure you with the Herald if you are into the Manila2D thing like myself.
Question: Have you tried using 4MB Pagepool with your JustStable, Ivan? How well did it run? Will the Herald get more free RAM if so?
Micro ROM
Ivan this is super. I love this micro rom. Wow its super fast. Thanks!
I love it cuz I can put on just what I want. How the Hell did you get soooo much Memory? Awesome!

Yeah, I tried using a PagePool Changer but it didn't work. It's grey out and you mentioned it on your post prior to my download and attempt to changing it. That is why I'm requesting a 4MB PagePool if possible. But even at 6MB, it's has incredible amount of free RAM for the herald with the latest Manila2D that is a resource hog compared to older versions like in Tran's OTP.

Are you using the newest version of pagepool changer? The first time I did it, it didn't work, the second time, with a different version, it worked.
Thanks Ivan. I downloaded the newer version of PagePool Changer from Sept 08 and it worked. With just Manila2D installed, it's at 26MB! A clean install with JustStable at 4MB PagePool gives 31MB of free RAM. This is the most free storage/ram anybody has ever created for this phone. You are a true asset to this forum and HTC/Micosoft should be paying you if they keep selling the Herald/Wing .

You are a true asset to this forum and HTC/Micosoft should be paying you if they keep selling the Herald/Wing .

Did you install Arcsoft and a connection wizard (or write the settings in by hand)?

yes i did. everything else works really really well. except the " ; " key for some reason. mms and sms im'ing are huge for me. i average 10,000 text a month. without a data plan i like oz because it works with my unlimited msging plan
using arcsoft mms 5.0.31.7
Is there a list anywhere that tells the difference between the "full" version and the "micro" version? I know the Micro is JUST what comes with WM6.1, but since I don't know what that is, I'm not sure what's been added for the full version. I guess I could get both and write down a list myself of the differences, but since I'm lazy I figured I'd ask first to see if this had been done anywhere.
Hey Ivan LOVE this ROM... damn you are amazing man mad props to you.
Just one problem... I don't know if it's just me but some programs won't open. I don't get an error or anything. The little busy icon appears then quickly disappears then... nothing. I can't open Advanced Config or Ing Change Font...
I reinstalled Advanced Config and reseted and turned off the phone but... still nothing... Any reason why it wouldn't be working?
EDIT:
Oh haha nevermind I needed to install .net compact framework.

The Micro doesn't have a lot of things.
Amongst them:
QuickMenu
wktasks
.NetCF
The Canvas Dialer
The modified taskbar icons
Mortscript (for the wing versions that use the multibrowser button)
OperaMini
The newer version of IE (which takes more space)
The extended Explorer
The Rhodium Notification Enhancements
The HTC calculator
HTC Home
The keyboard skin
MyCPL
The new Volume Control system
The deactivated Rhodium Menu Enhancement (it's there to keep the notification enhancement working due to dependencies but it itself isn't working.)
The outlook enhancements
GoogleMaps
RandomAccess (the contacts quick alphabetical bar)
more modified icons around the system
Yet more modified icons around the system
Touch Responce (the force feedback)
I think that's all.
And the Payload has been modified to remove the ULDR (update partition which isn't used anyways.)

The ; key should be working if you're using the correct version on your phone (if you have a herald, you're using the herald, if wing, the wing version.)
Is anyone else having this problem?
The MMS and SMS, is anyone else having this problem?

I'm using the wing version for a wing.
like i said, sms works beautiful, i just cant send or receive mms, and the oz .cab won't work. should i use a different arcsoft build for this rom? I'm running spb mobile shell 3.0 and sometimes the shortcuts dont like to work after its been running for a while, but when i select it from the start menu it fails too. uninstalled and reinstalled it 3 times, did a hard reset, installed it on both the phone and sd card, always the same result. it's not super important because i use yahoo and i forward my im's to my phone when i'm not online. but i cant see my friends list that way.
even with this minor issues i'm having, i still love the rom.

Looking for a stable 6.1 or 6.5 roms

Phone is IMATE JASJAR
R 1.09
G 42.42.P8
0 D.07.70 RAN
If you do not have any difficult, and links to these ROMs and apologize for spelling mistakes, my English is not so good
I agree with you, it already switched, flash from here with Ranju's - v7.7: WM6.1 Pro but I want to try with someone else, that's fine, but there are few problems with crashes ring, so I want to try other versions, and 6,5 even be convinced that flash is the best with windows hp, not windows7 as my.
Take a deep look at this thread here:

Dig & read all of information you might need before you start playing with your device..
And remember,,there's no such thing as "best" cooked ROMs.. I can say,,you gain something you lost something..
let colleagues give any ideas, know how to flashing your handset, clear to me is that rom has cooked things in more or less, before I put the rom on top, I've changed three of these, but still had some problems with them
Try them all till you get your personal best
And let us know...
