Hi all Gurus!
I was planning to get myself a Jabra BT8010 and plan to get it working with WM6 installed XDA MiniS.
Generally, how is the sound quality of BT A2DP as compared to normal headphones? Are there many issues in BT Stack of WM6 that might prevent nice music experience?
Also, has anyone tried BT8010 with WM6 Orwell's rom? and got it working perfectly fine?
And can we just jot all the issues/problems/solutions faced with WM6 (whether Orwells or PDAViet) and A2DP here in this thread?
Mods, the specific threads are all scattered so I thought I would start off this thread specifically for WM6 and A2DP. Please delete this thread if this topic doesnt require a separate thread.
thanks,
Sid
Works fine on mine with a Sony Ericsson DS910, and an iTech Blueband.
It has AVRCP also, so with the DS910 it supports all the controls.
Quality is probably about the same as A2DP from my K800i, but it is all quite memory intensive, so if you're low on ram it will stutter like a bastard.
i had the PDAviet 3 WM6 and the xound quality on mine was okay..its just a cheap think i bought on ebay that you plug your own headphones into. its eem sto lose some base and sound a bit tinny compaired to the same headphones plugged into my 8125 directly, but that could just be my BT receiver.
I have Nokia HS-12W and the music quality if good with same gaps in music but the quality in voice is very bad!
The voice is like talking from far!!!!
If someone solve this problem please tell us!
Im Using my Mono SE headset to listen to movies etc on the go and have noticed a bit of a drop in quality from WM5 to WM6, It seems to crackle more on WM6.
Bluetooth range is very good though, I was on a call the other day and someone came to the gate so I got up and went outside still talking on the headset only to realise my Wizard was still on my desk 10 meters away

I use iphono mini with WM6, quality in music is quite good (similar as WM5) once you add the bitpool registry key to 40 (before a lot of skips).
But used as hands-free has quite bad quality, at least in my case most of the times I have to disconnect the bluetooth and use the phone.
Perhaps the Jabra are better in this aspect.

Can you share the exact location of this key in the registry?
Although my Jabra hasnt arrived yet. I just want to be ready.

Got My Jabra BT8010!
Hi All,
I got my Jabra BT8010 working with the WM6. I am pleasantly surprised with the voice quality. Music thru the stereo headset is also excellent, but sometimes the songs seem to slow down or plays fast randomly.
I tried overclocking, but it did not do much good.
Has anyone faced this? this doesnt happen everytime.Just randomly, the speed of song increases or decreases. Any pointers in this?
Further, Anyone knows how do I activate cyberon voice dialling thru this? The MS Voice commander doesnt work well with Indian names :-(
Thanks for the help...all. I also filled the petition for XDADEV to allow storing the ROMs at this site!

Give this cab a shot. My buddy uses it on his Mini S, says it works wonders. I don't have a a2dp headset yet. I forget what brand he has, it's a something-com I think, the one that folds up.
My BT620s is on the way, I can't wait. I will let you know how it works out.

I got it today.
The damn thing took forever to charge the first time.
I have to say I am very impressed with this thing. Works out of the box with WM6, so far no issues whatsoever. The sound quility is not audiophile level, however it is a lot clearer than I thought it would be!
I was listening to some songs that i have only heard on my crappy laptop speakers and they are awsome. I can hear a lot of things that I couldn't hear before. The bass on these is great.
the best part is that they were only like $60 US, that is less than I paid for my Jabra BT800 a year ago.
I Give the BT620s a 2 thumbs up!!!!!
btw no A2DP fixes have been applied to the Mini S, I am using PDAViet 3 so I am not sure, actually there may be some tweaks in that.
Using A2DP on pdaviet3 with the itech clip IIs headset works great for me:
PROs:
- no skipping after 20 min of mp3 playback
(EDIT: it does drop audio for one sec about 1-2 secs after initial playback, but then resumes)
- not wired headphone sound but pretty darn close
- seamless music pause/resume with incoming calls
- no problems at all with MS Voice Command
CON:
only one so far - people on other end when asked about sound of MY voice said it was a little distant/tunnel sounding (but this is more due to the mic location on the itech)
That being said, I've just "reverted" back to faria's 3.3 rom. Today screen with SPB Pocket Plus/Diary combo seems snappier.
i have wm6 and sonorix OBH-0110, and sound quality if awfull comparing to PC connection with toshiba bluetooth stack. and some cooker said that wm6 bt stack is alot worser then wm5 one.
Hi All,
I dont have this location on my WM6 Orwells: "HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Bluetooth/AD2P/Settings/"
The "Settings" folder and the subkeys are not there. This location was there in WM5 while it isnt there in the WM6. Does anyone know where it has been relocated?
And any settings for A2DP skipping and Music playback speed uneven-ness?
Added those bitpool registry keys but they seem to have no effect. How can I improve A2DP sound quality in WM6?

Did you create those locations manually?
Even after installing that bluetooth fix cab in this thread, I still have problems with skipping and song playback speed intermittant. :-(
Gurus!!! where art thou????

Yes I created those manually. Now I use Molski's AKU3.3 Crossbow style rom and sound quality improved alot. Still not on the same level as a wired headset but much better nonetheless. As soon as there is a better WM6 rom with working A2DP tweaks I will upgrade again.
An Update,
I used this A2DP fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284974
and skipping went away. Also, music quality reduced.
I uninstalled the fix, and I have the quality back, but songs have started skipping again.
Cant MS provide for a better BT stack in WM6 with all their development prowess??
Would going back to some stable ROM like Molski's or Farias WM5 help?
Faria's WM6 and A2DP
Another update....sighhh
I updated my Wizard to Faria's latest fully loaded WM6. The skipping reduced a bit, but thats about it. The Music speed is still intermittant.
Seems like I wouldnt be able to enjoy this gift. Why cant things just RUN....
I am guessing, changing ROMs wouldnt help...or would it? Does Widcomm stack work on WM6? Anyone with this experience?
The next ROMs I am gonna try are:
1. WM6 MBE
2. Farias 3.3 AKU
3. Molski's WM5
After that i will try selling my Jabra BT8010.

Anyone figure out a cause behind the intermittent skipping and speed fluctuations when playing music over bluetooth? I'm using the XDA Mobile 6 release 2a ROM with my BlueAnt X5i headphones. Everything works for the most part. But about 10 to 15 minutes it will drop audio for a few seconds, then start back up again. Annoying but I can live with it.
What's really irritating is the fluctuations in playback speed. For some reason playback tends to speed up every 5 minutes or so. When I skip ahead or go to the next song and it's fine. Then the issue recurs again in 5 minutes... repeat cycle.
I've tried using different mp3's of different bit rates and that doesn't seem to have an impact. I've also tried different players - WMP, TCPMP, GSplayer, Mortplayer, etc. All seem to behave the same way when it comes to variations in speed during playback. Any ideas on this one????
Some of us are very aware of the bug in MS's bluetooth stack that makes A2DP really a hit or miss depending on hardware. I'm not talking about the skipping problem, which is related to bandwidth and easily corrected- I'm talking about that high frequency noise that makes every vocal sound tinny and crackly.
Before you go on about how A2DP has always worked fine for you, let me explain that CERTAIN headsets are afflicted by this problem, while others work wonderfully (some sound as good if not better than a wired set). If yours works, you got compatible piece of hardware.
Personally, I have one set that sounds great, and another that also sounds great with every other A2DP device I own, but when paired with my Tornado, it sounds awful. MS is aware of the bug, but has yet to address it, even in WM6.
Recently, however, it was brought to my attention that a ROM cooker here who goes by jasjammin has released a set of special WM6 roms for various PPC devices called BLACK.
The latest updates to WM6 BLACK has some BT fixes, including one that others have claimed FIXES THE POOR A2DP SOUND QUALITY!
I've tried to contact jasjammin to find out if it was new unreleased drivers, or perhaps a magical set of reg. settings, but so far I haven't gotten a response.
Does anyone know anything about this, and if so, can someone help me figure out if we can make this work on our Tornado devices as well?
FOUND IT!
Finally, someone explained it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310438
Its fixed in the official WM6 releases, apparently! Gotta get ahold of some updated a2dp patches!
just wanted to say: IT WORKS!!
finally i can answer calls AND listen to music cause my wired headset is mono (damaged jack i guess).
after installing one of the new wm6 roms and constantly reading anything here i finally ordered a bluetoth headset (motorola HT820 on german ebay for 24 incl. shippment - unbelievable dont you tthink..)
it came today and everything works fine.. stereo music (although i have to say goodbye to my new toy named speex codec as it seems to be to difficult to be handled by the cpu) and calling.. i even can talk to the voice commander
just wanted to share my happiness
but since this a problem solving forum: can i use the motorola headset buttons to start voice commander?
nice day to everyone
ok, found it in Excalibur section. Works perfect and if anyone wanted to know here it is again:
how to enable voice command with bluetooth headset button:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Audiogateway\
Entry "BTAGextModule" has to be changed to "vcbthag.dll"
My default Entry was different than mentioned in the Excalibur thread(btagext.dll) but as it worked i didnt care
Awesome! kinda off-topic, but do you know how to increase the Bluetooth sound output? my headshet is a little low.
Awsome stuff ! Got to love voice command !
Do you know where we can get it as a seperate cab file, as the BETA Rom, and the Pefect English Roms have this ESSENTIAL software removed from them....
(Its the only reason why I havent upgraded to the newer roms !)
Anyway very good find !!!!!!
I am happy that i am not the only one who likes it
Dont know where to get a cab, cause its not legaI.. i am looking for german version, same problem (only trials available)
Didnt upgrade to later roms also because they are missing some features. But i like the rom i have now. No need to upgrade. No CPU Problems for example
The volume problem is not that easy to solve i guess.. what headset do you have?
Anybody reporting problems with the new 6.1 ROMs trying to pair up certain devices? I used the latest L26 V2 and am having problems pairing with my car, and pairing with my laptop took several tries and reboot. It was no problems with 6.0 or earlier 6.1 builds. Is bluetooth affected by the Radio version? thanks!
Same here...
In every cars with integrated Bluetooth something, I cannot pair the phone.
Either the car does not "see" it or the mobile does not "see" the car.
I tried with many cars, same issue...
I used to have the same problems connecting to my Pioneer AVIC HD3BT. On some other forum I did read about changing the registry and it worked for me. This is the key which needs to be adjusted, I hope it will do the trick for you too;
Go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway and find the BTAGExtModule. Most like the value will be something like OEM... (sorry don't remember exactly anymore), change it to \Windows\vcbthag.dll
Sometimes (depending on the ROM i use) it seems only possible to get it paired one way, for example start the pairing on the device instead of the carkit.
Also make sure that during pairing your device is set to visible in the bluetooth options.
Hope it helps
I'm looking at buying a new car and I tried playing music through a couple 2010 Toyota non-navigation radios. All the Android music/video players I tried would sound great for the first few seconds and then start a subtle warble/echo that continues until you pause/resume or switch tracks.
I've got an ADP1 currently running Cyanogen 4.2.11.1, but I saw the same problem with 4.2.9 and 1.6 (don't know about all the other various builds). I have several A2DP headsets and they always work fine (no warble).
I believe this Toyota radio is running Symbian OS from what I found on the web; and I'm going to try to see if Toyota has a software upgrade tomorrow. (I doubt it) Toyota does mention that most Bluetooth features are supported for the MyTouch, but doesn't mention A2DP either way. http://toyota.letstalk.com/brands/toyota-bt/home.htm
I'm downloading the whole Cyanogen tree and preparing to build it and then sniff through the code for buffer sizes and other likely suspects.
I just thought I'd pop this on XDA and see if anyone else has seen the same problem and found a solution.
Or does anyone know specifically where to look in the source to adjust buffer sizes and other things that might cause a warble with Bluetooth audio.
You should test before getting the car, ask the dealer if you can test the BT with the car when you get there.
I have been running A2DP on my Sony headunit for some time now. I have never experienced a warble on any of the roms I have used. I do get another issue however and maybe they are related. I can not stream stereo audio over BT to any device it seems, IF I also have my phones wifi enabled. As stated I do not get a warble, I get an audio drop for a few seconds every 30secs or so. This does not seem to happen if the headset is the only part connect, as soon as I connect the A2DP portions it starts up. Disabling wifi is my work around at present.
I have tried A2DP with/without WIFI enabled. No difference; still warbles.
Nothing interesting shows up in logcat.
I run A2DP through my ford focus with the microsoft sync system with no issues. Although the AVCRP does have issues. The control won't work after the phone goes to sleep.
The warble or echo may be due to an active system used to reduce road noise when using the phone hands free via bluetooth. Might check and see if there is a way of turning that off. Some of the foreign cars have active mics placed in the car that might cause this.
try an eclair rom (like manup456's 1.3)
BLUETOOTH IS IMPECCABLE ON THESE ROMS
it will work.
I tried turning off/on the auto volume; no help.
I'm not sure how to check/disable any bluetooth feedback; but it doesn't sound like that.
My friends Blackberry either worked fine (no warble) or was very very jerky (played quarter second, cut out a half second). And split its time about 50/50 between these modes.
I should mention the "warble" is not very pronounced, I can listen to most music without it making me crazy; but it bugs me.
Finally got all the stuff from git; now compiling the kernel.
I will try the compiled kernel tonight and if no luck there I may try the eclair rom mentioned; but I thought Steve's build already had most of the eclair stuff; maybe he is waiting on his experimental branch.
Edit:
oops, looks like a2dp stuff is not in the kernel....
I run A2DP on my kenwood deck. The only issue I experience is if I turn off the car and kill the stereo before killing my BT on my phone, my phone goes into freak out mode. I can't enable or disable BT untill I give a 3 finger salute and it just runs really slow. No warble, actually from CM 4.2.11.1 it sounds pretty damn decent.
I'm still trying to figure out how to compile the code from git; got the kernel and main tree compiled; but not the external apps (like a2dp).
Toyota gave me phone #s for Panasonic and somebody else who make the head units. So I am still pursuing a software update from that end as well. I'll call them next week after the holidays.
I've read thru the liba2dp.c code and have a couple ideas to try if I can figure out how to compile it (haven't really tried that hard, just looking for the official directions so I don't waste hours on something that is already known)
dude your doing too much work just try the eclair rom!!
