English ROM available? - Touch Cruise General

hi,
I just wanted to know if there is any (stock or custom) english ROM available for the Polaris anywhere? Reason for my question is that I have an english version on order from expansys but the date keeps getting pushed back every week and I'm sick of waiting and there are several local dealers that have german versions in stock. But I just can't stand german language devices, so if there was an english ROM I could simply install in the german (unlocked) device I'd cancel my order and would get one right away

we all wait to the WWE ROM , there are same guys that work on it

I am very interested in this as well. I can purchase a unit with the Norwegian version if Windows Mobile for a nice price, but I really, really, really want a unit with English on it...
How easy is it to switch the entire OS & applications on these units?

Very easy. Just a few click and there you go. Just wait for sumitter to start posting ROM's or wait for the cooked room which is coming out in the next two weeks or so after Olipro release the CID unlocker.

And then all will be in English? The OS, the Office Mobile, etc? It will be 100% identical to a unit purchased with WWE?

New Orange M500 (HTC Magician)

Finaly 2 days ago Orange made the M500 available in the Netherlands. I have ordered mine within the blink of the eye But when I search the internet I can't find much info about the device. Yes about the HTC Magician enough but not specific about the orange device. Is there already anybody out there who has the device? what ROM does it have etc.
Thanks,

I received my Orange SPV M500 yesterday, i paid 215 euro once, and I had to take a One Year Orange contribution which is 32,50 euro monthly costs. In the package was a 1Gb SD card and a mr Handsfree Butterfly.
When I go to Start>>Settings>>Device Information i have:
Operator version : 6.06.3.162
ROM version : 1.06.00 WWE
ROM date : 01/06/05
Radio version : 1.05.10
Protocol version : 1337.39
ExtROM version : 1.06.162 WWE
What IMHO is very very disappointing that I cannot use the VoiceDialing trough my mr Handsfree Bluetooth Headset... For placing a call you still need to take out your m500, stupid :x
Second It Would Be Cool to use the Stereo HO Headset for listening to Mp3's. But I saw antoher thread about this, hope this would be solved soon.
I also have sometimes trouble connecting to GPRS services. But I read some other threads that this is normal for this Rom.

HTC rep doesn't know the diff between G3 and G4

I emailed HTC about the Cingular 8125 Rom on their site and asked them to clarify whether it was for a G3 or G4. Here is the response that i got back.
"Dear M. Hensley,
Thank you for your inquiry.
This software is for Cingular 8125. I do need some clarification on G3 or G4 devices? I am sure if you mean the 3G (network) device. The Cellular Networks that Cingular 8125 supports are: GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, AND GSM1900
I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions.

btw, if you have a cingular phone dont worry, the oficial versions of roms is for CID, so...works for g3 and g4

This doesn't surprise me. We throw around the term G3 and G4 around here all the time (and lots of other terms) that I'm sure most HTC support reps do not know anything about. I guess I have more of an issue with this (as like Golfernut indicated) the official cingular file on the HTC website will not load on a G4 device (if you try you get an error.) So based on the answer they gave you, you could push back that your device gets an error when trying to load the ROM (you'd need the specific error a G4 gets) just to see where they go with that. More than likely though they would push you to Cingular for a warranty replacement (that seems to be the quick fix with both Cingular and HTC).
I had an issue that after upgrading to WM6 all my MMS pictures were scaled down. I called Cingular about it (as it appeared to be either a phone setting or something on their service. I didn't mention that I was running WM6 btw ). They wound up putting me through to HTC Tech support. While these guys seemed good, I quickly found out that I knew more about rom flashing and things about the inner workings of the device than they did. HTC and Cingular's response was that I needed to have a warranty replacement of my phone. I pushed that it was a setting someplace and they told me it wasn't worth the time to try to fix it and they would just send me a new phone. Since I knew the issue was WM6, I told them I'd live with it (and since found a Cingular setup cab I now use that fixes the issue, so it was a setting).
I've worked in software support for many years (and still work around a software support organization for a worldwide company where I support the tools they use to provide support) and I'm amazed at the people working in support and how most can't do basic things on a PC and just flat are computer ignorant of what I think are basic computer skills, except for the specific piece of the software that they support.
Just curious, but why were you trying to find this out?

Trying to what? Get confirmation about the rom on the HTC site? Since flashing a custom rom I've had fast battery drain and wanted to flash with an official rom to get my extended rom back. The consensus on the forum seems to be that a corrupted exteded rom is causing that.

IPL 2.25.0001
SPL 2.25.0001
GSM 02.25.11
Yeah, I can't say I know why you two (and who knows who else) is having that problem. All I can tell you is that it hasn't been an issue for me. Very strange...
Here's an interesting thread on Howard Forums that talks about this problem.
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=1010854
Could it really be possible that there are 2 types of G4s? One that will accept either a G3 or G4 rom and one that only accepts G4 roms?
Anyway, when I looked under the battery at the PN, mine was T04.
If I give my whole P/N #, is that giving away any personal info?
i dont have anything but a 00 behind the dash and a HAZ with a few numbers before and a few behind it before the dash...

No, it's a pretty generic number since there's only a few P/N's for all the devices. Mine is 99HAZ005-00 T04.
04?!? Well, I did just get this as a "new" (not refurb) replacement less than a month ago.
See I dont have the T nor do I have the 04, its 00 at the end...So therefore yes, there must be two types of G4's and that is why I cant flash the Cingular Rom.

That is odd. That makes me a bit curious about what I can actually flash to this. I've been following the standard G4 procedures but wonder if it's not necessary with this revision.
Oh well, I'm not brave enough to risk the brick.
edit: That's interesting that you have a G4 without the T0x at the end. From that post over at HoFo, it seemed like that was an absolute unique feature of a G4 device.
Ok, since TaurusBulba has a T04 and can flash the rom from HTC, I should be able to also. I will absolutely cry if I brick this thing.
It would make sense that it would work ok for you....

Well, this will be a good way to find out if my phone is some kind of anomaly.

just got a new X05HT. A few observations

This was just released in Japan today. Anyway, I just upgraded to it and just want to say it (so far) seems like a nice upgrade from my old X01HT. (which I will miss, though).
The box is the usual Softbank white square (boring) box. Accessories include a charger, mini-usb headphone jack converter, spare stylus and a leather (non-magnetic!) case. No headphones are included; nor a micro SD card
When it is first booted there is about data: 271 MG free (322); Programs: 130 MG free (200)
Included software:
the usual, + mp3 trimmer, cleavevue presentation, jetcet print 5, navitime, quckmark, rss hub -
Nice points:
-The camera takes nice photos (seem to be nice and clear with no blur indoors; can't wait to try it outdoors)
-There are front and rear cameras
-The default rom seems nice (in Japanese of course). There seems to be no way to change it to English though.
-Touch Flo 3D does not seem to suffer from any lag (yet) and the overall speed seems good.
-Included mail program (Softbank mail) is a huge upgrade from the old Softbank mail which was included with the X01HT! It does not seem to suffer from lag or other issues.
Bad Points:
None, yet! ;-) If I find any you can be sure I will update this.
Anyway, I will play around with it for a few days and then attempt to flash to an English rom....

How about the SIM lock?
/mek
Do you mean the X05HT?
I have not had time to check whether it is sim locked or not (I suspect it is).
I did hard spl flash it though -- no problem. Now at least we can upgrade the rom.
Ah, speaking of which, when upgrading I would love to have the new Japanese IE that is used in the original Japanese rom - I suspect that it won’t be too long before somebody like Askul comes up with a cab; it is much better than current solutions, and allows for word prediction when using English, for example.
Likewise, if the Softbank mail settings could be exported, that would be great. Softbank mail in this rom uses a modified version of Arcsoft's MMS ver. 5. (Settings seem to be hidden/unavailable).
Things I have noticed with the Softbank rom after 24 hours:
-slows down periodically (even after manila tweaks)
-Music skips a lot
So, it does look as though I will be upgrading as soon as I can to a better rom.... only wish there was a better mms solution....
damn... yeah, I did mean the x05ht..

I had so much payments left from my X01T that I opted for getting a new SIM and paying for the phone. It was 49.140 yens. So now I ended up with my fifth SIM from SoftBank, they told me that is the max number one can have. So I hope they do not come up with a better phone soon now

Can you dump the current rom before you start flashing? I don't think I've seen it any where else.
I am actually dumping it as we speak.
Also, see the following thread, regarding Japanese IME. I think that flinx1 is going to try and extract the IME from the Softbank rom and make a .cab.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445550&page=2&highlight=x05ht
Anyway, I will go ahead and upload the raw files as soon as I have finished the dump.
Cheers!
Yea I just saw that you dumped it in that thread. Thanks a lot!
Here is the full rom, all four raw parts. Please note I seemed to have problems with par3. It gave some error which I don't remember, although it did seem to dump the file OK. Please let me know if there are problems with par3 and I will try and redo it.
(pending) somebody told me to remove par3 because it may contain sensitive user information. I will do so and re-post. In the meantime if you did download it, then please ignore any of my personal stuff. ;-)
I'm going to be upgrading next week. Do you know if it ran any dodgy stuff on first run? (Like the X01HT white model did?)
How about the back of the case, is it the bumpy one as shown on Softbank's site, or smooth?
Hey mate, it is sort of rubbery (like the original touch pro case, I think).
There are pictures here: (it seems exactly the same as the softbank one).

If for any reason the phone has to be send back for repairs or some such is there a way to simlock it again? I guess SoftBank would not be very happy receiving unlocked phone (you see I am only worrying about their feelings )
Also won't flashing a new rom lose all the SB settings? I am mostly worrying about the access numbers for internet use as the last time I used my foreign bought Nokia I ended up with 120.000 yen bill for a month's usage...

There are ways to get the softbank connection going for the x01ht. See this. I guess it might work (havent tried it myself)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=441400
(edit: seems that it might not work) but see here (post 35) for more on the x04ht and a possible solution to getting softbank settings working: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ighlight=x04ht
It is more that I need input that allows for word prediction (as in the default rom) - in both Japanese/English). With the asukal solution you lose this feature.... there seem to be a few people working on various solutions but nothing has eventuated yet.
Oh, and I did flash it once -- just for fun. It did not seem to make the device any snappier compared to the original anyway. I guess it might be better to wait for somebody to find a solution to the "performance issue":

I really want this phone but if this is not possible then i will have to resort to the X03HT.. please help!

Updates tend to be staggered so keep trying. This is, of course, assuming you're on 1.27.161.1 at present
Yay!!
I'm downloading now
About time! Though having said that, the unbranded one was only rolled out last week, so not too long after I guess?
Umm... it's only 27.32 Mb???

It's only a small update, some bug fixes and the like. It's normal
Ah I see -
I'm not sure where I read, but for some reason I thought it was about 330 Mb!?
hmm...
Ok, well it's installed and now loading up
Will give you feedback in a few mins
Hmm....
Nothing spectacular at the moment...
Scrolling is smooth (it was smooth initially anyways though)...
Got a score of 1900 on Quadrant, whereas I was getting 1800 up till now...
Something is synchronising constantly for the last few minutes (the two arrows in a circle), that's about it at the moment
Really need to test this at home - hopefully the signal issue is fixed! (Kept dropping randomly)

The full RUU is about 400MB but the OTA is small. The article was for a test OTA and was quite large though
Since update
360 voda music tab in music player. Can't remove it
Video player sound is fixed after testing avi file.
Feels more smother.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App

Can this not be removed via root or editing the music apk?
vodafone are cheaky bast**ds
That signature looks strangely familiar
Does seem Operators are getting more involved with FW again - really wish they wouldn't!!

You caught me Hope you don't mind , I though my sig looked a buit Naff with nothing in it, lol
but yea, I wish voda would let the OS be, yea ok maybe add an app thats of use, but messing about with stock apps, thats not what I am paying for. I am hoping that rooting s-off will get rid of this vodafone restriction.
I a ( and have asked in the QA section) if it was possible to do what you could do with the old nokias, and thats edit the phones product code so that it would install the offical OTA update (i.e the Eu standard) rather than the branded one.
Also for Ireland
Also now available for Vodafone Ireland. They're possibly the same version of firmware though.

I don't mind at all mate!!
The gold card that worked on previous HTC handsets would've done the job here too but seems it doesn't with the Sensation at present (which worked in much the same way as old Nokia handsets in that it hid the phone real product code)
hopfully they are working on the gold card, I have seens ome threads regarding development and testing of the gold card, but I assume this is more likly to work when s-off has been achieved.
Once we have S-OFF we can go custom so stock RUUs will be pointless. Just use a custom ROM based on the stock ROM!
Have they done anything sneaky in it that will effect s-off later or is the H-Boot the same? I know the last update for the Legend from Vodafone made it a lot more awkward to root it and at the moment neither Htc nor Vodafone have said if Vodafone will allow s-off. Just a bit scared to update and be ****ed later.
well i asked this on the vodafone forum and the mods replied stating that they don't see why Vodafone would not allow the s-off update to go through. I guess its a good sign when you dont just get the generic 'We don't know at this time'
also I am guessing with a modded rom, this would be better than a stock rom, yet how would you go about getting updates for a modded rom? Just wait for a modder to release an update, also with a modded rom, do they just use the base rom i.e euro standard.
