When you dump a rom...does it contain all you personal data like contacts and mail/sms...and if yes in which parti of the DSK1 partition are they contained??
Part00
Part01
Part02
I know that maybe it is a stupid question...but I need to know this thing before upload my original VOX Italian dumped ROM.
P.S: yes I've already used the "Search button"
no
it only contains the OS, no customizations/personal informations at all
ahahah ok thanks my personal TUTOR!! I've already uploaded it to a hosting service now I think I will upload it to the XDA FTP...maybe create a new folder called VOX which strangely doesn't exist...
P.S:But where are the personal contacts and sms/mail stored??..cause I'm sure the aren't in the external SD...?????
They are stored in pim.vol and cemail.vol I think.
Upload here : \Uploads\Smartphone\Vox (or something like this...)
Yes xda ftp is a real mess
already uploaded to XDA FTP's HERE
or HERE
I don't know if it's admitted to share links to hosting sites...so if i did something wrong..please mod edit/delete this post..
NEW stupid QUESTION
eheheh...excuse me ...another question...
what will happen if i restore a spreite backup (full backup every option checked) in a cooked rom??
I mean...i think some reg keys are not the same..some other does not exist enymore and there will be others that in prevoius rom weren't.
So what will happen...with custumizations, configs, installe progz and other settings?? Probably what you will get is an unstable and unpredictable state of the SP???
Exactly You can restore from a previous version of a cooked rom to another (and still some little things could be wrong..) but I wouldn't do it from an official to a cooked one. Too many fixes to be done after flashing I think. It would be even less annoying to reinstall everything on your phone.

I've done the big storage patch on my Magician. And I understand that if you restore files from a backup made when one didn't have big storage, one is likely to have just wasted time on the patching as the file structure would revert back over-writing some (hex?) values, with the possibility of losing access to the Storage folder completly.
So here's my question. would it work both ways? Say I re-flash my Magician with the ROM it came with, and that I have a backup from a ROM that has the BigStorage patch, and then restore from that backup, what would happen? Will the backup from BigStorage ROM override the shipped ROM's file structure? Or will it just mess things up?
I realize that this may seem pointless to most users. But I am missing a registry key for a Bluetooth function (syncing via Bluetooth, and I think it's just one key...). Let's just say I don't have the guts to re-flash my Magician two more times (back to shipped ROM, get what I need, then to BS ROM) given the risk posted above.
Could anyone shed some light on my question?
Thanks
Don't know what kind of backup you're referring too. Is it a rom-backup then yes you're reverting to normal storage. With a RAM data backup you're not going to write to ROM & cannot change the addresses you mention.
Did you load the BT patch ext-rom cab after the boot or do you have plain WM2003Se now?
My advice: load the cabs with patches from your ext-rom.
M
Oh sorry, I forgot to mention that but i think you answered my question. Suppose I made a backup (with the BS ROM) using Sprite software, and I re-flash my Magician with the shipped ROM that I backed up, and restore from the Sprite backup, what would happen? And given your answer, I'm supposed to expect that the Sprite backup is not capable of changing the addresses, right? So then I'd have the BS registry settings, shortcuts, and blahblahs, but only 7.6MB useable memory in the Storage folder?
To answer your question, yes I did load the CAB files I needed from the ExtRom including BTHUSB_PATCH_AKU26.CAB (which I think is for Bluetooth?) but to no avail, as I've lost the capability to sync using Bluetooth ever since I did the BS patch. I even loaded that CAB file a second time just in case, but still to no avail. (Note that the hardware works though. I can make a device pairing and all that...)
I'm trying to avoid re-flashing my Magician twice just to get that registry key as that would be my last resort. Hahahaha
In any case, here's a list of the CAB files I loaded, if it matters.
Band_Select_Enable.sa.CAB
BTHUSB_PATCH_AKU26.CAB
CAB-ArcsoftMMS-2.0.022-Magician-O2Asia-ENU-21Mar05.CAB
CAB-Customization-Magician-O2AsiaWWE-31Jan05.sa.CAB
Caller_ID_Magician_Generic_WWE_RC13.CAB
CameraWizard_O2Asia_Customize.CAB
CV2.41.386_wwe.CAB
default_103133.sa.CAB
DelAddStarMenu_092404.sa.CAB
DialerSkin_Landscap_091104.sa.CAB
DialerSkin_Portrait_091104.sa.CAB
Fix_dual_SIM.sa.CAB
JMM101257_wwe_1004.CAB
O2_Base_v103116.sa.CAB
O2_Default_103133.sa.CAB
O2Auto.sa.CAB
PhonePad_Magician_Generic_WWE_RC12.CAB
SmartDialing_Magician_Generic_WWE_RC13.CAB
Version_WWE_111922.sa.CAB
Including 2 CAB files for my service provider. Is there anything else that I could have missed? I used the config.txt in the ExtRom folder as basis for the CAB files to install.
PS: I'm not quite sure what you meant by 'patches' from my ExtRom...
With the 'patches' I meant some of the cabs you installed from the ext-rom, eg for BlueTooth, battery & camera.
I'm only using usb for syncing, so I'm unable to confirm BT sync works for me, no BT hardware on my PC. Still you got a strange prob. Did you try a hard-reset & are you using the latest Sprite version?
M
I've done one hard-reset a week after I flashed my Magician with the BS ROM so that I could test a previous Sprite backup (Sprite ver 3.2 if that helps), since I was just curious as to if the backup would fully restore everything [and it did btw].
Curious, what would the latest/lower version of Sprite backup have to do with my problem?
With previous versions I sometimes got notifications that the registry backup/restore wasn't fully successful.
Sprite will restore all RAM data & the \Storage data not the size, so you could end up with a partial restore when you try to restore > 7MB to the standard \Storage folder.
Did you check all Act.Sync settings on your Magician, guess you probably did a 1000 times?
Regards, M
Yes I did check all the Async options on my Magician. I did run into a problem regarding Bluetooth with the Magician's Async and speculated that I was missing a registry key. Check out the post I made here regarding that http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=50937.
After getting boh113's registry file, the `Bluetooth option came back but still wouldn't work. So I'm assuming that the addresses don't match with my Magician.
I gave it some thought and the only way I came up with to get back the Bluetooth functionality was this:
1) re-flash my unit with the ROM it was shipped with
2) deal with the \Storage folder problem if any
3) extract the whole bare registry
4) re-flash my unit with the BS ROM
5) merge the extracted registry (I'm not sure if this'll cause unforeseen problems)
6) pray
hahahahaha! Hopefully I'd get back Bluetooth syncing. Of course I'd try to avoid doing this as this would be my last resort. I will most likely need a whole day for this, and I doubt I can do that this week. Might try next week if I put up enough guts.
I MIGHT be missing some DLL files in \Windows although I doubt that. But it's still a possibility..
I do have one more question.
I assume I did the following successfully since my Magician works:
a. shipped ROM backup + dumping
b. hex-editing on the shipped ROM to make it a BS ROM
c. flashing with BS ROM
So here's my question, though I see it to be silly. Would it be safe to re-flash my unit with the BS ROM (that I patched) instead of doing it again from scratch (i.e. the 6-step procedure I listed)? My unit will still have the 20+MB \Storage folder right?

Can I dump my touch with all installed programs, cooking a complete rom including installed programs?
No - that's not possible I Think.
But you can use sprite backup.
It worked perfectly for me when I flashed the ROM back.
But keep in mind that it only will work correctly on the same language of the ROMs.

I have Sprite Backup, but after flashing the device with the same rom, the restore didn't work, so I had to install the programs again.

Here is a trick I have used for quite some times with Sprite Backup 5.1
Sprite Backup version 5.1, version 6.02 is more fancy, 5.1 is good enough.
1. Do a full backup, make sure option Create Self Extract Exec
2. Hard reset (optional)
3. Flash new ROM
4. Run the backup file, make sure the Upgrade Mode Restore Option is Check.
5. Kneel down and pray (optional, or take a cup of coffee).
SKtools is handy.
Step 4 is most important. When it asks you for the upgrade fine, Click None. Minor cleanup unavoidable but heck a lot better than of re-install all the softwares.
Sometimes you may find the machine run slugglish by doing that. I am not sure why.
You may flash the new ROM, re-install all the softwares, see if the machine run faster, but few days later, you will feel it run slugglish. I am not sure why. (The laptop runs runs much faster than once I bought it and take it home and installed with applications.)
So I just keep buying new machines... hahaha
holy moly.
going great at 10% of flashing.
but i feel confident the tute was on the spot.
muchos gracias.
And yes you are right (you didn't say it but you must have thought it), I could have added it myself to WIKI. But just had to try it myself first off course.
And am i right in believing i could have allready replaced some of the graphical files in the dumped "ROM" directory?
Or is it to dangerous at this change because the file size needs to fit?

Next step, getting familiar with hypercore kitchen.
Thanks for this tutorial.
Now i can safely backup my Dutch rom and test some custom ****..

Do NOT change files in the dump directory without proper tools!!!
You will mess up the ROM
When you have a look at the dump directory there are some info files with data for the places in the ROM which need to be recalculated.

Dumping Elf WM6 Italian version ROM
Before trying to put new Rom images, i would like to backup the original one.
I followed the (simply) tutorial, but i'm confused about this step:
"need the ruu_signed.nbh from valid update (extract with winrar)"
Which file do I need?
I don't understand why I need a valid ROM when I'm trying to dump a Rom from my Elf
Can I use an other language ROM version (English, Dutch....) or is needed only an Italian one?
Thx in adv and sorry for my poor english

you need this as a "shell" or "template" because the .nbh files are made in a way that cannot be recontructed (so far I understand - correct me if I'm wrong).
And yes you can use an ROM with another language. I took the Australian ROM - look at the first paragraph "files you need"
This is usually a .exe file that you can extract with winrar (or winzip maybe)
P.S.: your english is not so bad

Don't upload to XDA. I've seen some directories with full roms on FTP. But this is no longer allowed and files will be deleted.
XDA's allready been in trouble with MS about this. So either use third party file sharing or privatly owned FTP.
r0p3..
So to get the radio and SPL do i need to redo first extraction but then for these files? Or are these IPL/SPL?

I don't know yet - I still have to dig in the wiki about that.
It's very dangerous in this area - if you mess up IPL or SPL your baby is usually lost forever. I don't mind about those as long pof's USPL works beautiful.
Radio might be not so critical. But 2.97. is already available - so it would only be for the fun of it
Hi, I have 3 questions:
1) I've looked around a lot, but can't seem to catch hold of a chinese language for my vox...Its called Dopod rom right?? Where can I get the files and instructions??
2) Does a ROM (when dumped) contain absolutely everything that is on the phone and if flashed on another phone will be a "duplicate" of original phone??
3) I've found the wiki on how to dump my rom, but how would I be able to re-flash it onto another phone??
Thanks guys
Wow somebody who actually read the Wiki before posting - nice
1.It's on the ftp. But look at the stuff that is written in the Wiki, about no Wifi and so on.
2.Nope it isn't it's only the operating system and all the software that comes with it! So no contacts or appointments or other files you put on. When you do a hard reset, you would see what all comes with the ROM! (but don't do it, it'll wipe all your data)!
3.You would have to put it into the kitchen and try to cook a new ROM out of the dump, but look around on the ftp first, there are a lot of shipped ROMs, yours is probably there too!
I can't seem to locate the Dopod wiki... But are there ANY ROMs that can handle chinese text without sacrificing the wifi function??
In terms of the shipped ROMs folder - I couldnt find my one and besides, I'd like to have one with all my programs on. So where can I find easy to follow (I'm a newbie on all this) instructions on cooking and creating a ROM??
(Is this thread the right one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337066 ) ???
Thanks for your help

PIM Backup (free app) will do exactly that and backup messages, emails, sms, contacts, calender but not system settings, programs.
For that you will need something like sprite backup etc (paid app).
Of course, if you had a downloaded copy of your stock rom, all you need is the program cabs, and you will always get your programs back

SuperJustKitchen v0.9 Released.
Go to my site: http://justkitchen.info to get the updates and the info. It takes to long to update every device's forum that is supported, and I plan to support all devices, eventually.
Word of warning:
Not all EXT's have been tested or modified for the every device. Please test test and test and then let me know which packages don't work and what YOU've done to fix them. (I don't have time to fix ALL of them by myself.) Some packages will only be compatible with some devices.
(I'm no longer updating each thread separately for each device but just updating my site and posting the release info here. I will only update each thread to say that a new version is out.)
**Warning**
Before using this kitchen, you MUST read the whole thread. Any questions that have been answered will be ignored. This is your only warning.
**Disclaimer**
I am not responsible for any damage that may be done to your phone with a ROM created in this kitchen.
I am not responsible for any damage done to your computer.
I am not responsible for anything... at all.

At the moment, this is an ENGLISH (WWE) only kitchen. This might change...
NOTE: In order for me to keep track of whether my time was well spent or wasted, if you use this kitchen to make a ROM, please either include SJK in the name or just mention that it was SJK cooked in your ROM's thread.
NOTE: This kitchen assumes that you know how to flash through SD, recover from a bad flash and are able to backtrack your steps to figure out how you broke your own ROM. If you do not understand these, please learn them first. Do not PM me asking me. I have written numerous walkthroughs on all these except on how to backtrack your steps. For that, just remember what you're doing as you do it and keep backups.
If you find any issues, PLEASE report them to the bug tracker in my website. It will help me make this kitchen better!
ENJOY!!!

It shows that you are registered twice and are activated on both accounts.
I do not have the ability to see passwords. IM me one of the usernames and passwords that you used so I can troubleshoot.
As far as the ROM goes:
If you have an elf, that file size is massive. Remember that the limit only removes the lower limit of a 50mb requirement. The elf doesn't have much space. Do not enable so many things. If you must have all those things, at least enable LZX compression and EXT-UPX compression.
