Wake from Standby - Touch Cruise General

Hi,
I just received my Touch Cruise yesterday and I've found it takes quite a while to wake from standby when I push the power button, is anyone else experiencing the same problem? Does anyone have a fix for it?
Thanks

I don't have the same problem. My guess: backup your data and hard reset your device.

Sorry if this just makes you feel worse but it is a datapoint. For what it's worth, my device wakes up pretty much instantly from standby so I'm afraid it sounds as if it's a problem somewhere in your device or setup.
How many 3rd party applications and/or today plugins do you have installed? I wonder if one of them is trying to do some processing on wakeup and has a bug that is slowing things down.
If noone comes up with a better idea then I'd suggest uninstalling your third party apps one at a time to see if one of them is causing the issue.

Thanks for all the info. Strangely enough the problem only seemed to occur yesterday, waking it from standby this morning was fine. If it happens again I'll get rid of the 3rd party apps as suggested.

I've had a similar issue 2 times, where I cannot wake the device at all. Nothing happens, I have to soft reset. I hope it isn't ongoing---I never had similar issues with the Touch.

I had the same issue as you, after standby the device would not turn on, and I had to soft reset it, it happen a couple of times, I'm not sure why, but I noticed last time it happenned that the battery was low, maybe that's what caused it to happen.
Is there anyone out there with the same issue? Is it a hardware issue or some software or 3rd party issue?

The first time this happened to me the device had charged all night. In fact the green light was constant when I removed from the charger. Usually it starts to blink immediately after unplugging..I couldn't get it to wake. The 2nd time battery was also fully charged although it had been off the charger for a few hours.

Hello, it happenned to me few more times this past few days, I try to turn it on from standby and it just not wake up.
Did it happenned to anyone else? Does anyone knows if its a hardware problem?
The firs time it happenned to me I had no programs installed.

Screen going black

I've tried various different ROM images (including the excellent Dr.Gonzo), and I have this problem with all of them.
When I'm using the phone either with the keyboard in or out, the screen just switches off randomly. If I wait a few seconds (possibly the backlight timer length), then it comes back. Mostly... Othertimes I have to wait a lot longer, but it does always come back.
A reboot sometimes fixes it, but not always - does anything survive a reboot or battery removal?
Anybody else seen anything like this? I have seen a lot of threads about the screen staying on, but not off.
Of course, it could be a hardware fault, but because it's intermittent, it's hard to prove.
Mike
same problem
If you shake the phone can you re-produce this problem? I've never not heard of this being affected by software - you might also want to ensure you're not overclocking it.
Nothing is removed when you do a battery removal or reboot, ensure your connections are all tight and make sure the SIM pins are all making contact and the SIM door closes, apart from that it sounds like a possible bad LCD ribbon.
Shaking it doesn't reproduce the problem.
Once the phone has started doing this, it happens everytime you press a key.
Seems more like a memory leak to me since it always seems to happen after a while of web browsing/email use.
So actually, it looks like it might be a hardware fault.
I think it happens when the device gets warm. After a few minutes with the screen on, keyboard lit up, wifi on, the phone gets pretty warm and that's when the screen seems to go black. Leave to cool and all returns to normal.
Mike
Same issue here, but the screen does not acually go black/blank it just seems that the screen backlight does not turn back on from a standby like state, the phone itself functions but just not able to see whats going on on the screen.
(keyboard lights work fine and come on when expected)
Not sure about the heat theory as it happens (to me) most often right after a call, anything over 30-50 seconds and the backlight problem occurs, when it decides to work again is a matter of luck.
As said before because it's intermittent, it's very hard to prove.
Has anyone who has had this issue, fixed it with a hard reset ?
Very strange ... but also getting very annoying now!
i got the same thing. took it back to warranty and they said nothing's wrong with the phone but i still get this.
I experience the same problems.. it happens pretty random, but every time when you hit a key. I have set all timers to never but the problem is still there.
Running Gonzo 1.1 at the moment, upgraded from guava.. but that didn't solve the problem.
It is getting so annoying now that I am about to throw the s710 in the dustbin
I have had the same problem!
I have turn it back to my provider and no problem now.
i have the same problem with my VOX
apparently, i can still receive phone calls, and do whatever i want with the phone,
but the screen just stays black, its like if you have unplugged your monitor
since i dont have a htc center in my town or anywhere else nearby.
does anyone know a way on how to open the phone, change what need to be changed and correct the problem? im all up for testing if that would resolve this annoying problem :s
cheers everyone
there is a dismantling manual somewhere in this forum. search.
i don't think taking it apart would help you because this is not a physical fault that you can locate.
and i learned that mcel is the retail seller of vox in mozambique. they should be able to help you with service. else just send a mail to htc support and they will guide you.
yes, mcel are the retail sellers, but i tried to go there, and there are no specialists on htc's there,
the thing is, i didnt bought my htc from them, so i can't go there and change for another one
but tks anyway
no problem
but do try to contact htc support by email. they might suggest a way.
I'm having exactly the same weird problem and I think I found some pattern when it occurs. Well, the thing is that in the bright day or in a room with lots of light it works just fine. In the darker conditions… well… not so fine. It seems to me that this screen blackout happens whenever the keyboard light is on and screen changes to full brightness (in the dark, because of the light sensor). In the daylight, keyboard light doesn't turn itself on, so s710 works. I don't know much but this definitely isn't some bad contact problem. Maybe some battery problem, but I doubt it since I can receive phone call in this condition. This started to happen after I flashed this Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM from HTC (I have original S710). Flashing Dr.Gonzo's later on didn't bring any luck either. I believe that some power control SW is the main culprit. I've read that many people mention some Tornado Power Control app. Does anybody know can this application be permanently disabled or removed?
are you trying to say that by desabling the light sensor, the problem might go away?
i would also like to know if it possible to have the baklight on the lowest possible brightness forever, because it seems, on a low brightness the problem might go away

I also have this problem with the lightsensor turned off. And also at (as it seems) random moments.
well, even with the light sensor turned off, the problem persisted.
i got my phone to a repair shop of htc's, and they figured out the problem
my phone is now 100% thankfully, the repair man told that the problem was because of bad or malfunctioned circuits, he exchanged them with new ones, and the problem went away,
dont know wich circuits exactly, and he didnt want to tell me, but i suggest anyone having the same problem to try and do the same
probably its a hardware malfunction with these VOX,
its possible since so many times before i've heard about malfunctioned pieces coming out in large quantities for sale.
anyways, cheers everyone, and good luck Portugal in EURO!
I have the same problem. I just noticed that it usually happens when the phone is warm, so if you need to do something on my phone just... take some ice from fridge and put it on back of your mobile. I cant see any more solutions.
Please someone help us!
Update. Problem Solved
Just thought I'd update this thread I started.
I sent the phone back to my dealer (Grapevine in Poole,UK).
A week later, I got a brand new one back from the HTC repair centre.
So far, so good. Looks like the problem's solved.
Mike
Sam problem here,
i called with HTC and they sent them to there repair centre.

Anyone recognize this? Volume goes up and down like crazy.

Ever since I received my Polaris back from repairs by Euro Twice in Belgium, I occasionally have a problem with the volume slider appearing out of nowhere and going up and down like crazy. This also happens when I'm not even touching the phone.
Sometimes the problem doesn't appear for days and sometimes it happens many times per day. It seems like some kind of internal short-circuit involving my volume-buttons and memo-button. I have to do one or more soft resets to make it go away.
Also, sometimes my phone won't switch on from stand-by by using the top button. Lastly, sometimes the 4 hardware keys under the LCD-screen don't work.
As I said, it seems like the device thinks that buttons are being pushed while they are not.
Does this seem familiar to any of you guys? Any idea what could be causing this? I have already sent it in for repairs by Euro Twice again but I received it back because they couldn't reproduce the problem (I guess they didn't test long enough).
I have ROM version 1.28.405.3 WWE (03/05/08), Radio 1.58.25.14, Protocol 25.69.30.05H. I'm not using any custom ROM.
A hard reset didn't help.
Bump...
Can anyone please make a guess what could be the problem? I have done a hard reset again and the problem is still there but much less frequent.
...sounds like a hardware issue...
Thanks, I know it's definately a hardware problem. IMHO, anything other should have been solved by a hard reset.

[Q] anyone know how to fix this touch pro problems

two days ago, my touch pro switch on/off button on the top of the phone went crazy.
what i mean is, it pop-up the ON/OFF selection for me even i did not even touch it. and the battery went out abnormally.
usually one battery could last one to two days, now it can only last few hour for one battery.
i did hard reset the machine already but the problems still persist.
would tat be a hardware problems then?
anyone here know this here?

How this problem started if you remember any particular program or physical shock etc..
I have exactly the same problem

[Q] Screen won't stay off!

I can't turn my screen off. When I press the power button it goes off for 0.5 to 3 seconds and comes back on. I was using Axura when it first happened, but then I restored an older CM rom and I'm having the same issue. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm sure I don't have to add that it isn't ideal for battery life ..

Are you plugged in when it is happening? If so, have you tried to turn off the "Always stay on" setting?
I had this happen to me. It turns out it was a faulty power button. Its a hardware issue. I had to return my phone because I was still in the 30 day window, if you're outside of that you need to send it in to samsung.

Thanks for the replies.
Strangely enough the issue disappeared as quickly as it appeared about 6 hours after it began! I tend to agree that it's a hardware problem, but as long as it's not happening constantly I'm going to live with it (due to the fact that as an Australian living in Spain with a NS from the US I don't imagine a warranty claim would be easy).
A hardware problem wouldn't be my first assumption if I was on a custom ROM and/or had lots of apps installed.
If it happens again, I'd get a logcat recorder app or adb logcat session running on the phone and see what exactly it says goes on just before the screen wakes each time.
Oh ok. I tend to assume it's a hardware problem due to the fact that it happened on completely different roms. But the way that bug causing "artifacts" are sometimes left behind when changing roms doesn't give me confidence in that assumption. I really don't understand it.
I'll definitely give the logcat a go if it comes back. Thanks.
hi,
i am bringing back this thread from a few months back because it was the only one i found that showed the same problem.
i installed alogcat and attached a log file here. can anyone see if there's anything in the log that would be a software reason as to why it's waking itself? also, it doesn't shut itself off while this is happening. the screen will stay on indefinitely. i've had the phone for 6 months and this has become a new problem i would say in the last 3 weeks. i don't want to have to send it to samsung for a few weeks.
thanks for any assistance

WidgetLocker = End to SOD

I understand that there are a couple of topics opened for this but I wanted to have a new one with the title showing that a solution has been found as I want to help other who are experiencing the problem.
I'm not sure if this would resolve the issue for you but it did for me so please don't blame me if it didn't work for you, I say this because the solution requires an install of a paid app.
So I've had my transformer for 2 weeks and the SOD has been happening since day 1, it would happen every time I left my transformer asleep for more than 2-10 minutes (WIFI on or off). I've tried everything but could not resolve the issue. The only time the SOD didn't happen is when I had it plugged into the charger.
Solution: WidgetLocker, it's an SOD killer
All I did was install it and left everything as is, I also made sure that the stock lock screen is disabled.
I dont think it's widget locker that fixed the problem its disabling the stock lock screen. I had the sleep issue the first few days I had the xformer but after disblong the lock screen it went away.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
I had SOD issues when I had Juice Defender installed. I knew it was causing the problem because it started happening right after it was installed. Haven't had one SOD occurrence since I removed it.
I had te stock lock screen disabled for days but the problem never went away until I installed widgetlocker.
I don't want to be a Debbie Downer, but I think you'll find the SOD will reappear when you least expect it. Mine didn't do it for well over a week after I fiddled with all the suggestions offered on this forum, and now it's just as random as ever. I hope 3.1 fixes this, but it sounds a lot like a Transformer issue rather than a HC issue, since you don't hear the Xoom or Iconia owners complaining about the same thing.
Anyone else tried this?
Thanks
the SoD is probably caused by the big frequency/voltage jump when you wake the system up. This is probably what's freezing the system. Someone with a rooted transformer that's having the issues should get the netformer kernel and sit minimum frequency to something higher (400~600 MHz) and see if they still get the problem.
FYI: We had the same problem with the HTC hero when some hero's would lock up when asleep when you set the minimum frequency too low which meant they made a big frequency jump when the screen got turned on.
I've got the acer and this happens all the time with it. I notice it also will randomly turn the screen on just sitting there. Wonder if it's just a 3.0 issue and not something just the asus has.

I don't think we've had the screen waking up issue.
It's been over 24 hours and not a single SOD since installing WL. I used to get it SOD every time I left my ASUS unused for few minutes.
If I use dock I never have that problem only without dock.
Glad to hear the wake issue isn't happening here. It's really annoying. Just had my acer not wake up again though. Happens at least once a day.

Sorry bit I've only just found this thread. I too am suffering with the SOD after 5-10 mins of standby. But I also have the random "waking up" when in standby -sometimes after a couple of seconds, sometimes after a couple of minutes. Seems you can't rely on it doing what it is supposed to do i.e. sleep until woken !

3.1 update fixed this for me and no Widgetlocker is needed.
