Anyone else notice that the battery life on the Treo is a whole lot worse when using WM6?
I am getting about 2 hours less after upgrading
Just wanted to see if I was the only one.
Thanks
I had the leaked att rom on my phone....and my battery life was the worst...lasted maybe 2 hours or so...
I just downloaded the generic rom to see if i would have a change....
so far i have had it for a full day of moderate use and my battery is still going strong....im left to assume that the rom change made the difference....
Can anyone else confirm that WM6 battery life is improved with the ROW ROM?
I can't say I "confirm", because I have not tried the generic ROM yet, but since installing the AT&T ROM, I have noticed a signifigant decrease in my battery life. I thought it might be chocked up to my heavy use of BT and the fact that I am running XCPUScaler to clock it in at 500MHz, but even with no BT use and disabling XCPU, I still see a 2 to 3 hour difference.
If you live in a 3g area and you are set to "auto" then yes your battery life will be shorter since those 3g bands require more "energy". I have learned to disable 3g for most internet use and only use 3g when I need it. Is this favorable; no, I'd rather not have to think about it. But until the battery technology and the processor/os interaction improve to be more energy efficient as is being seen with full-scale PCs, then we must find compromise. You can always buy a larger battery or carry more than one, but I'm happy with the software fix for now.
I created a shortcut to the band settings and assigned it to the PPT button for quick access to this setting to minimize the number of clicks.
Code:
how to:
1. Create a text file and input:
[INDENT]22#ctlpnl PLMOCPL.cpl,0,1?\Windows\cplmain.cpl,-7140[/INDENT]
2. Save the file as "[whatever name].lnk" and place it somewhere convenient on the device.
Hope this helps
Cheers

I agree with this, but there should not have been a noticable difference between 3G on WM5 versus 3G on WM6 - but several people have seen a significant (>20%) loss in battery life just from upgrading the OS using the leaked ROM (same hardware, same HSDPA support). I am one of those people.
Well, I tried the 'unofficial AT&T Rom' same thing. Battery life about 20% less.
But I can't even get through a day without having to charge up my phone. Pretty annoying
Mine's actually better since upgrading to the AT&T rom.
I live in an area where I am on the fringe of 3G availability, so my phone on WM5 was always eating up battery searching between GSM and 3G networks. I actually had to hard set the phone to GSM like tmknight to get through the day.
Since the update, I seem to be staying locked on 3G now, and battery life is a little better than where it was when on GSM with WM5. Would still like a standard size battery with longer life though ...
well i finally got the generic rom to work, after realizing that i had to keep the data cable plugged in...BONK...in any case i would have to concurr with the last post, my 3g is locked in and battery life is a tad bit better, not much to do a cart-wheel over, but...noticeable...

Ur right, I have an atom exec and the Wm6 made it to run for 5-6 hours only, that too without any phone calls and only GPRS usage. When I reflashed the WM5 back it is running normally. Something is WRONG with this new WM6
For those who have upgraded their radio to the new leak, do you think it is better or worse than the official radio?
Worse. It keyed my car, impregnated my dog, and stole my wife.

Thats weird. For me it got me a raise a work, bought me a new car, picked the winning lotto numbers and otherwise tends to my every need.
Note: all these results were only while the phone was still on the charger. fearful of that the new radio actually requires a gas powered generator to keep this up.
with old radio i use to get full bars at work but now it shows up 2 or 3 with six bar signal icon
I know you cant base it off that but now it seems to drop all signals more often
and when i use usb tethering now for some reason it runs at snail mail speeds
but i was going to give it as much of a chance as i could before flashing back but its not looking good for me anyways
I have been running the new radio on my own ROM and it seems the same.
I would mention that this is original ROM from Verizon, not the new leak. This weekend I plan on installing the leaked RUU and trying that for a while.
Anyway, I do agree with adrynalyne, **** did key my car..
I've noticed no difference. Literally. My GPS is still broken and my battery life is still mediocre. How do you activate the "steal wife" feature?

For paid donations only sorry...
Funny, after I installed it, my phone now runs on oxygen. It actually charges on my belt clip. Also, my GPS consistently can tell me where I'm going to be 20 minutes from now.
I am running the new radio and Bamf 1.5 Debloat. I have not had any improvement in keeping 4G signal. I am in very strong coverage area most of the time and if I keep it on CDMA+LTE it will prefer CDMA. If I change it to LTE only it will grab 4G and keep it even if I switch back to CDMA+LTE. Just seems I should not have to do that.
Seems like Verizon is still having problems in my area with 4G if I even go near the border of 4G 1-2 blocks from it but still inside it drops 4G.
better battery life for me for sure sure but gps still sucks..
as far as signal, 4G signal in Houston has always been great so im not sure
I haven't noticed a bit of difference unfortunately.
GPS is a lot faster to lock on. 4G has always been stable for me, so I don't notice a difference there. Battery life seems to be about the same as before, but then again, my radio almost never switched over to 3G and that was a problem a lot of people were having on their phones, which drained battery like crazy.
No difference at all. So far.

Well, contrary to what everybody here seems to be experiencing (or not experiencing), the new radio has been an improvement for me.
The building I work in is pretty terrible, signal-wise. With the old radio, if I had the phone on CDMA + LTE, it would jump from 3G to 4G to 1X to no data all over the damn place. And the "no data" happened somewhat frequently, would last for a minute or two, and then kick back on. Kind of a pain if I was browsing web (while I should have been working).
But today, with the new radio, 4G was pretty much constant. I did see it drop out for a second here or there, but it resumed much more quickly and wasn't bouncing to 3G and 1X.
Only one day's worth of observation, but definitely seems to have helped here.
BAMF 1.5 Remix, if it matters.
With the new radio and bamf my phone sucks. Battery has gone to hell in stadby (even with all data off). 4G doesn't even work now. I even tried going back to stock RUU and reflashing everthing from the new RUU. No dice.
I'm going back to stock radio and bamf 1.4. At lease everything worked there... I think the new radio is to blame. BAMF 1.5 was running great when I didn't have the most recent raido.
my battery has gotten worse, and i cant send mms, signal has been about the same. GPS works better.
Edit : just flashed the new new radio and mms now works. We will see about battery.
On perfect storm 1.3 and the new radio has shown some signal improvement, and bettery battery life. My gps locks on within a couple seconds.

Flashed new radio and BAMF Remix this morning. So far, I'd say it's been a pretty fair improvement. GPS is dramatically faster (I used to get no lock at all, now it takes maybe 30 seconds), 4G to 3G hand off seems smoother, and battery life seems reasonably improved though that may have more to do with the ROM + kernel than the radio.
I'd have to give it a few days to make a definitive call, but over a day's usage it's been a fairly solid improvement for me.
I've had a fair improvement in GPS locks, and a noticeable increase in battery life. I have a feeling that at least some of these complaints are tied to not using the proper GPS app fix, not wiping battery stats, etc.
That being said, these leaks normally give some people headaches, which is why it's only a leak ;-)
Bolted!
I am not sure why you would root, change radios, update kernels, etc... if the end result is that the things that work out of the box, stop working. What is it that you are looking for? I had an HD2 so I get it, and I have done the whole android thing, but what is the end game?
So from a GR-12 standpoint I must say gingerbread handles just about everything better. with the random odd bugs here and there... so far gingerbread is already showing some awesome stability and speed. much kudos out to the devs here! You guys do a great job and from what I've seen here so far... you put up with maybe one too many ignorant rude individuals. BUT! I would like to extend my thanks to all you devs and helpful members here... and for making my switch to android not only an informative one but a great experience all together.
So... anyway. loving gingerbread (GR-12 mainly). After loading up launcher pro almost every single bug or issue has vanished. seems the twlauncher has some deep seated issues lol.
Looking forward to the new releases!
I totally agree, Ive been running GR-12 for a couple of weeks now and its silky smooth. Oh and im also using launcher pro for the same reasons. lol
A different launchere makes all the difference doesn't it!? After I realized that every time I had a snag or crash it was "twlauncher"... I figured I'd try replacing it. and sure nuff... Awesomeness came spilling forth. Honestly haven't had a issue since. (well I flashed the kc1 modem which gives me the gps performance I need... ).
Outside of my own retarded moment bricking my phone while flashing it... Tearing through 3 old power supplies to get the right combo of resistors to build my own jig.... lol! But all is well that ends well.
What's everyone else's setup / experience with ginger on their cappy's?

significantly better than froyo (at least for me). There are some people with a battery drain issue but I'm thinking its an app thats not optimized for GB. I dont think its a ROM or KERNEL issue - but I'm not a dev so I can't back my statements up.
Both battery and gps are better on GB. Gps is wayyy better...

Are you able to give me like how many hours on average you are getting? I appreciate all the solid feedback.
Gingerbread has been horribly buggy. The battery life is just plain awful, it's laggier than 2.1, and it killed my dog.
Someone was bound to say something negative, so I just got that out of the way. Lol
Actually, GR-12 makes my Captivate run as smooth as my Inspire. I got about 12 hours heavy usage with the screen almost max.

that's a loaded question because it depends on MANY factors:
-signal strength in your area
-3g vs wifi connection
-general phone use (phone calls, sms, games, etc...)
For me, the phone lasts MUCH longer. I can go about 20-24 hours until I need to charge again. Thats with medium use and wifi connection 80% of the day. On standby, my phone usually drains 1% - 2% an hour.

glad to help out. hope it works out for you.
EDIT: I should add, though, that when I'm not on wifi (using 3G), my battery doesnt last as long. So I prefer to be on wifi as much as I can.

That is good to know. I will keep that in mind.
So far on continuum its been rather smooth, using go launcher btw.
Battery life is bad though. Less than 8hrs with moderate to heavy usage. I need to fully recharge two to three times a day now.
On froyo I'd get 12-15 hours with similar usage.
Gps works fine, but then mine did on froyo before.

I'm experiencing battery drain, GR, Continuum and Mosaic, I leave wifi on and after 9 hours (fully charged, battery stats reset, standby mode [literally 0 use, I was asleep]), cell standby had used 33%, wifi 30%, .... I had 52% battery left.
GB is smoother, for sure, once kernel development ramps up for GB (JVB, JVH and JVO, ... JV#) i'd expect to see more tweaks include power and performance.
If you need battery life and don't want to risk flashing GB, wait.
battery life *IS* going to depends heavily on how much you use your phone. It's hard to compare battery life amongst people that cannot stand next to each other and compare phones because describing "heavy" use is different for everyone. My version of heavy is not the same as the next person.
the only real determinant of battery life that we can all use as a comparison is to see how much battery drain you have on standby or to run some sort of application that runs videos (ie. benchmark apps) because we can all do that. If your phone drains 2x as fast as mine on standby, then we have a problem with a rogue app or something else.
(clarification: I dont mean to use a benchmark app to see the results of the app itself. I just mean to run something on the phone to drain the battery quicker and view the battery life at the end of the test).
I've always experienced better battery life with Froyo, and I use my phone every single day for reading PDF's, listening to music, texting, calling and surfing the web. Maybe Gingerbread has better standby battery life, but when getting a "full" use out of my phone I've always lasted longer on Froyo builds.
Anyone have any good ideas on how to improve battery life in an area with crap Verizon data and voice? I am running CleanRom 2.5, and have used CPU master to lower the clock speed, but my phone is dying in less than a day probably due to it using 1X voice and data. Short of turning off my phone most of the time, is there any way to extend the battery? (At home with good reception I go a day and a half usually.). Thanks for any help.

If you have wi-fi that's the best way. Turn off mobile data when you don't need it and just connect to wifi.
I'd like to know this too. When I have fewer than 2 bars, my battery life is horrible and my phone runs hot. 3+ bars = no problems.
It seems like any Samsung I have had has poor signal. Returned 3 before I realized because of this it was partially Verizon. Turn off 4g.

I think there is a huge variance between hardware on the gs3's...reason being, I have compared my signal against 3 different razrs. Two of them had -4 db better signal, the other one was exactly the same. My device gets great signal, anyplace that it drops data other devices do the same. The inconsitent issues with radios has been a ongoing issue with Samsung for some time. Problem is the only thing you can get is a certified replacement... and most likely it will have the same issue lol.

It could help. It seems like a lot of the updates have been to help get better signal, but YMMV. You'll probably also wnat to be mindful of the rom you're running and if it relies or is made for a certain RIL. My battery life right now is 30% after 8 hours...what am i doing wrong both the rom and kernel have allegedly good battery life...i recently flashed both like 2 days ago...am i supposed to let the kernel and rom calibrate etc before i freak out about the poor battery?
My screen is using abt 60%
voice 20%
standby 5
whats app 4% phone idle 4%...not sure what other info to provide but can anyone help me make modifications for better battery life
im using kernel tuner i tried governor: badass, wheatley, intellidemand..my screen brightness is veryy low i took it off auto because i felt it was sucking it even faster. I dont think im overclocking...random apps like youtube, facebook etc are running in the background is this a huge problem?
someone pls help!
thanks
What is your screen on time?
60% brightness isnt "low" by any means, I usually leave mine on 40%. You made a good choice to take the phone off auto brightness.
Personally I got really bad battery life with beastmode. I now run flar2's experimental 1.5 GHz kernel and couldn't be happier.
Radios also have a significant impact on battery life. The 2.29 radio + ril has worked best for me with battery life.

Yeah you have to keep in mind how you're using your phone. If your screen is on for a lot of taht 8 hours, that's a decent run.

Think he means screen is using 60% on the battery usage stats, not screen brightness.
60% is fairly high. I think he just has the screen on a lot. Brightness may also be a factor. Only about 4-5 hours if screen-on time is to be expected on low brightness.

Battery life
Hey guys, I've recently bought a AT&T HTC One X. This is my first smartphone, and it is fully stocked, locked bootloader and no root, android 4.0.4 and software version 2.20.502.7, really like the phone. However, I am not really impressed with the battery life. I would usually charge it over night for around 8 hours, take it off in the morning at around 08:00, take it to school, casually check facebook/gmail, maybe watch one or two videos and by the time I get home at around 15:30, the battery would be at around 15%. I was wondering whether this is normal and if there is any point of my rooting the device and flashing any custom roms?
I have disabled all the AT&T bloatware, decreased my screen brightness to around 25%, no live wallpapers, disabled auto syncing, wifi and mobile data mobile switched on only when I use it, only have a weather/clock widget and a couple of games. So I have been researching about rooting and customer roms for about a month now, and found out that some members have amazing battery life times with Cleanroms and custom kernels, so I was wondering whether the latest 5.1 Cleanrom with a Beastmode kernel 4.4 would cause any damage to my phone and whether any of you guys are using it?
Thanks for your time!

Are you using LTE? I found that my battery would drain very quickly when set to use LTE, even if I'm on wifi. I guess the LTE towers were further away or something because my signal would drop really low. I leave my phone on 4g for the most part now, only switching to LTE when I really need it, and I can get two days of battery with light usage. I've only recently flashed CleanROM so I would expect it to get better, but it's too early to tell. I've only got 22 minutes of screen time, but my phone has been on for 9 hours and it's at 85%.

Wow, that sounds good, even with that much screen time the standby is much better than on my device. Sorry I forgot to mention, I live in the UK and LTE or 4G is only available in major cities. However, my phone is AT&T and is sim-unlocked, and I get the '4G' mark on the top of the screen, therefore I think it might be the HSPA+ that is available in my area, which I rarely use anyway.
Is it the stock kernel that you have flashed with the rom?
Thanks.

Just because that person got a particular battery life by toggling off LTE, don't assume that you will get the same results. Battery life often tends to be very reception and location specific.
I leave LTE on 24/7 (as well as WiFi, and brightness on 40%), and can get close to 48 hours on a charge with low usage.
Also, bear in mind that you can't toggle LTE off on AT&T stock ROMs.

That's correct, on stock AT&T ROMs, the "4G" icon means HSPA+. If its on LTE, it will say "4G LTE".
My guess is that you are just having reception issues. Flashing ROMs and kernels may get you slight improvements in battery. But don't expect it to make a huge difference, or you will likely be disappointed. A different radio may also help.

Thank you, I will have this in mind. I was wondering whether it was due to reception or was it just the batter malfunctioning. In your opinion, would it be better to wait for the Jelly Bean update and see whether the battery life improves?
Thanks.
