Secure WAP network, WAP network, The Work, The Internet?! - Non-Touchscreen Windows Mobile Other

Hi there,
What are the differences between those "connection types" found in my WM6 smartphone: Secure WAP Network, WAP Network, The Work, The Internet ?
The reason I ask for this is that I have an MMS plan with my provider and I need to configure the MMS settings properly so that I don't get billed for all that GPRS data... so far it hasn't worked and I'm using the "Secure WAP network" connection type when asked, should I switch to "The Internet" type?
Thanks all for your help,
highmighty

mini S setup nightmare...

Hi everyone
I just recently bought an o2 XDA mini S and I just can not seem to get it to connect to the internet or check my pop3 email.
Keeps coming back with the following error message:
Cannot Connect
Dialed: mobile.o2.co.uk
No Modem at above number. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings.
I have triple checked all the settings which were emailed to me by o2 - WAP, GPRS and MMS settings and all seem to have been entered correctly but dont work.
If anyone can help me Id be very greatful...Ive tried everything I can think of but am not getting anywhere with this
Thank you in advance
This is the gprs settings I use and it works
O2 GPRS settings (Email/Web):
Homepage: http://pda.o2.co.uk/
APN address: mobile.o2.co.uk
Username: mobileweb
Password: password
Email servers (POP): mail.o2.co.uk
Email servers (SMTP): smtp.o2.co.uk
Note: The "Mobile Web" service must be enabled for these settings to work.
* We've also been told of an alternative username of 'faster', with a password of 'password'
under connections\settings\my isp\manage existing connections make sure when it says select a modem - have cellular line (gprs) selected. And make sure O2 have mobileweb enabled at their end for your account. Their no is 202.
Next time better to post in wizard forum - you will get more responses.
I'll keep an eye on this post in case U need more help.
Hi Cath
Just try removing the SIM card wiping on something soft and all should work (but as above you must be on the correct tariff)

CDMA TPS in UK vs MMS

I have bought a CDMA tp2 from the USA.. having flashed on a Juicy ROM, as Sprint ROM is useless for me.. I can send & reviece msgs but cant download the multimedia message.. the error msg:
"Unable to download message from [contact]""
Does anyone have an idea, of how to fix this pls.. there loads of threads on xda-dev but none for me particular situation.. thus necessitating the need for this thread...
come on guys.. help me if poss
You need to configure the data settings for your carrier.
SMS = comes over voice connection
MMS = notification comes over voice connection, body of message comes over data connection
If you don't have a data connection setup + the information for your carrier's MMS server entered you won't get MMS.
here are your settings that you need as also posted in your other thread...
http://www.filesaveas.com/mms.html
Vodafone MMS settings
Access Point Name: wap.vodafone.co.uk
Username: wap
Password: wap
Authentication: Normal
Data bearer: GPRS

Session mode: Permanent
Port number: 9201
MMS Message (Relay) Server URL: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms/
The other poster makes a good point....make sure that your data is working correctly....can you view a webpage, send an email, etc?

[Q] rogers xperia arc with Fido. Cannot access web via 3G

Hi folks,
I have done some searching on the forums but could not find exactly what I am looking for.
I have unlocked a Rogers branded Xperia Arc and am trying to use it with Fido. The unlock worked and I can send/receive calls with my Fido SIM.
I can also access the internet via WiFi
However, I cannot seem to access the internet via my data plan (3G). Here are my APN settings.
Name: Fido Internet
APN: fido-core-appl1.apn
Proxy: Not Set
Port: Not Set
Username: fido
Password: fido
Server: Not Set
MMSC: http mms.fido.ca
MMS proxy: 205.151.11.13
MMS port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 370
Authentication type: Not Set
APN type: default,supp,mms
I have tried the APN internet.fido.ca that I found in the forums but that does not work too.
Under Settings --> Wireless & network settings --> Mobile networks, the "Data Enabled" box is checked. The "Data Roaming" box in unchecked
When I click on "Network Operator", it starts searching for a few minutes and then shows Rogers, Bell and Telus but no Fido.
When I try to bring up a webpage with no WiFi (expecting it to use 3G) it just says no connection available.
I am a real noob so I would really appreciate if someone can tell me what I am missing or if this simply is not going to work. Maybe I need to root the phone ? (I do not really want to but if that is the only way this will work then ...)
As an update to this .. I read on some other forum that any non-fido phone needs to have roaming turned on to connect to the Fido 3G network. Furthermore, when you try to search for networks, just choose the Rogers network as Fido does not have their own towers but uses the Rogers network towers. Fido will not charge any roaming fees for this kind of activity.
So I turned roaming on and connected to the Rogers network and my 3G works now.
Could someone confirm this and the fact that I will not be charged roaming as long as I am withing the geographical Fido network ?
Thanks,
this could help
if you call the phone company, then ask if you have any additional charges on your account, or ask if they charge for roaming
