ROM comparisons - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

There seems to be a plethora of ROMs out there, all using different CE OS and build versions, and with different software installed. I'm sure each one suits different people in different ways, and there isn't a "best" one out there, but is there any comparison information anywhere such as which is faster, more stable, most free space, versions of OS and build. If not, how about people post their preference of ROM and reasons for the choice here to help newcomers make an informed decision without having to flash 23 different ROMs only to find they should have stuck with the original

"It's all about if you flash new ROM every second or third day."
To be honest, go through the forum and you will find speed comparisons (SPB Benchmark), OS and Radio version differences and any other answers.
BTW I'm using Alex's HTC UltraClean ROM v4 with OS 5.2.1620 build 18125.0.4.2
and soon to be moving to Quentin's Q-Mobile v1.2 OS 5.2.1948 Build 18548.0.7.0
Cheers.

Unfortunately no one can tell you which ROM to use. The best thing to try them and see which one works best for you based on what's included. From what I've seen in the benchmark there hasn't been that much of a difference to say one ROM works better than the other (for cooked ROMs). The difference I think wouldn't make much difference when you're using the device unless it's a huge gap in the benchmark.
With that said, I've been using Alex's ROM (used his v4 cooking kit) and it worked great for me. I recently flashed Quentin Q-Mobile v1.2 and it's been working great so far. I tend to stick with ROMs compatible with radio v1.27.14.07 as it works best for me. I've tried other ROMs but reception is normally not the best. So that's one main point for me. I normally like to install my own software so that's why I've been using Alex's ROM kitchen. When Q-Mobile v1.2 came out recently the included apps were all things I used so that came in very handy.
Again, just try the ROMs and see what you like. I'm not a big fan of the touchflo cube so I stay away from those ROMs... doesn't mean I didn't try it.

Don't Get It Anymore

Have been away for 4 weeks and I do not understand it anymore.
Wm6.1 is out, but no official HTC release, but several roms out here?
Can anybody explain?
The cooked ROMs here utilize a leaked version of 6.1. Thus 6.1 is not truly official yet.
so what is the best rom at the moment?
There isn's a best rom. different roms provide different things and you have to try them out to see what best suits your needs. Im using duttys 6.1 WWE and i love it, but you might not.

ive tried all wm6.1 roms around here (htc wwe edition) and i must say they all have big flaws (igo not working, phone getting stuck at one point, SoD behaviour, reset not working other than by stylus), some of them have workarounds, some not. If you want to stay on the safe side, choose a wm6 rom, one that suits you. if not, come join the boat and try each and every one of them until you find what you like. but trust me, you wont, the search will be neverending... its all about the sport...
for me, dutty roms were all unusable due to different errors i got. no disrespect for him or his work, most people love his roms and i use his cabs from his collection (thanks a lot for gathering that). so u have to just try them on...

Recommend a ROM

So I've had my Kaiser a while now and I think it's time to flash the ROM for something a little faster. I have it from Orange and at present, it still has the original Orange ROM on it, I'm after something fairly basic that will speed things up, what would you recommend?
I have been using Duttys 6.1 UC version and its great... but I guess different folks will give you different thoughts and ideas...
Dear AndyCr15, the first thing u need to check is that whether ur phone has hardSPL and CID unlock then you'll be able to flash new roms which are not from original carrier or manufacturer.
Duttys 6.1 rom is the most widespread rom in this forum currently, cause you can change the system to whatever you want cause it have a lot of features that give you ability to fully control your using.
In my opinion, if you want just a fast rom, UDK 7.0 R2 is worth a try. I dont say it is the best but I think it is the stable and fast rom so far I've been used.
Then you can consider Schap rom. In fact I've never tried his rom before, but I can tell it is also a good rom.
As well as the roms I recommended, you can flash DCS roms too. However, I foun it working a bit slower than the others. The rest of KAISER roms are Alex, XTRM, Sleuth, Q-mobile, L26 V5 (this rom looks cool) etc.
Now, it is your choice, you can try all of them and pick the one you like the best. Gudluck, I hope this help
My suggestion is you try a few and see what you like. You will truly get 20 different answers on this question. It's like asking what is the best dessert. Do you want 6.0 or 6.1? What apps do you want? Do you want all inclusive or a lite ROM and install all of your own Cabs.
Try a version of Alex's - he has a ton of versions based upon what you might want. Try Q-Mobile, which is a fast and lite ROM (a little older than the others now, but still very, very good). Try Dutty's - he has a lot of fans.
Also try searching - there are about 100 threads with this question.

Help in selecting ROM

I will be receiving my fuze tomorrow and I've been doing quite a bit of research on these forums. I've come to the conclusion that I will be using a cooked ROM, and there are quite a few to choose from, so a little confusion has set in. I would like to offer a bit of friendly and constructive criticism to ROM maintainers -- Clearly state the goal you are aiming to accomplish with your ROM! It would certainly help in determining which to use (whether it be stability, speed, size, features, etc).
I'm looking to do away with the cruft of the OEM ROM and use something that is, first and foremost, stable and bug free. Performance is secondary but still important.
I guess the place to start would be, a WM6.1 ROM or a 6.5 ROM? I have read the other thread with regard to differences, but my question is of a different context. I am not tied to the 6.1 interface, so that part is irrelevant. I have heard conflicting reports on speed and battery use, but the general consensus is that 6.5 is better. Any word on stability? How about application support?
Then, as far as a particular ROM, I'm looking for something that doesn't necessarily offer all the latest and greatest, but supports a particular version (with bugfixes and performance improvements) for a while. Reading through ROM release posts, it seems that new releases typically have a few kinks to work out. I'm looking for something that has been ironed out over time, or at least will be supported for a while!
Thanks in advance,
B
ROM Choice
I would suggest PROven ROM 4.1 and 1.14.25.05 radio. Fast, stable and energy efficient. I think most folks will suggest that you flash a variety of ROMs and see for yourself what you like best. Enjoy!
If your thinking of a 6.5 rom I can strongly recommend Shep's rom, if your looking for a 6.1 rom I thought the EnergyRom was the best i've used!

I fully agree...I am running Shep's 6.5 rom without any problems. Battery is about the same as 6.1 roms, maybe a little better with certain settings.
You can cook your own ROM using Da_G's kitchen. I can help you if you want.
You have a lot of options. I would say your first option is Wm6.1 or Wm6.5. Very easy choice; WM6.5 no doubt.
You then have a choice of ROMS. I personally do not appreicate the HTC overlay software and feel as though it is pretty, fun and simple but it is more look than substance. I also find that no matter what Cooked ROM I am using that the Roms that aren't stripped down to Wm6.5 basic are simply too slow for me. Some of the cooked Roms are very fast in comparison to the HTC OEM stuff but I still use stripped Roms.
I would say plan to flash three to four times. Try a Da_G Wm6.5 Rom first to figure out what wm6.5 is like. Then go for Shep or NATF to see what a custom rom would be and finally go for broke and try your own cooked Rom.
Once you flash you will be tempted to try other Roms, so go for it. Each ROM really does have it's own unique purpose with a lot of overlapping features.
the amount of roms for the touch pro is truly dizzying so I feel your pain.
The type of roms I like are similar to DCD or NoChem's work. Clean and simple with the necessary OS tweaks/enhancements, then add my cabs.
For my first tpro rom, I'm gonna try Copper.
Are there any roms that just remove the att junk and leave everything else? My current phone is a HTC thru a small carrier that didn't add extra stuff. I was able to tweak little stuff on it w/o doing in the main os. Thanks

Why change roms?

Greetings. I'm so glad I've found this forum, I've been reading and learning a lot. I have a Tilt and love it. Stock WM 6.1 rom, "clean" no bloatware install. I'd like to upgrade it using Dutty's rom, my question is what is the main number one advantage to doing so?
I'm pretty happy using SPB Mobile 3, having switched from Point UI, SPB Mobile 2 before that, M2D before that, and the phone is reasonably fast. Are other roms noticeably faster? That would be my main reason for changing roms. Sorry if this is a noob question but I have been reading a lot and only find a few references to speed in new roms. Thanks for any help.
The beauty of this community is the diversity of customizations which includes all the cooked roms available to us.
Windows mobile (in my view) would be no where without all the hacks/tweaks/customizations that this forum brings to us.
Now you ask the benefit to flashing custom roms?
Basicly it allows you to transform your device/phone to how you want it to the tee! Each rom has its pros and cons. I personally use Abusalza's roms as they are really snappy and have many useful apps included.
Duttys roms are great as well. I want to say one of dutty's roms is the best i've ever put on my device but he hasn't made a rom recently for the kaiser so its kind of outdated and i need to have the latest and best running on my device )
Its not that hard to flash a rom and check it out for a couple hours to see if you like it or not so go ahead and expirement with different roms!
Also reading is key! i'm pretty confident in saying any trouble you run into has already stumped someone else before and there is a solution. As you search and read to solve your own problems it will expand you knowledge which enables you to help someone else on this community making you a valueable member!
Just make sure you check out this thread and when bored, read through the wiki.
It's just fun! I am a flash junkie ...thats why I flash all the time!
Thanks!
Thanks so much for your answers. The fun part has grabbed me as well, I really want to try it but have to go through the unlock business first I guess.
Dutty's last rom was from over a year ago, you may want to look into something newer, ROM's have changed a bit since then.
Yes, a new rom will significantly improve your phone's speed, functionality and if you install a newer radio as well will even improve your phone's battery life, reception, media playback and your camera's functionality.
Read this guide before installing your first rom as you'll need to install a hardspl before you do a rom install...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835
My personal recommendation for you is to install this rom (Abusalza's PDACorner X4)...
AT&T Tilt Rom - http://www.ponack.net/abusalza/Ultimate-X.V4.Lite-S.2G.rar
Upgrade to a newer radio and install SPB Mobile Shell 3 and iGO(you can get it from torrents) after you install the rom.
It's the perfect combination.
I'm sure others will recommend a few additional programs to install on top of that as well.
Thanks, I've been thinking about the WM 6.5 roms....
Hey Guys
Hey Guys,
Closing thread in an effort to keep threads clean and uncluttered.
Rom flashing is all personal preference which you will discover once you begin flashing roms to find the perfect one for you. a new thread is not needed on this subject.
Peace and take care,
Joshua

Build differences

Hi,
I recently started flashing and am currently running an optimised 6.1 stock ROM with the build number 20764.
Now I noticed there are some builds which seem to be quite far ahead like #21051 and for 6.5 even #21820. This is quite a difference, at least in numeric terms and I would usually assume there were some major changes respectively important fixes.
Is this true? Would it be generally recommended to upgrade to at least #21051 (for 6.1)?
Thank you.
Hi,
Different roms will have builds depending on there release date, what device the cooked rom has been ported from etc. Generally newer builds have more functionality but can tend to be buggy (not always thanks to great chefs) as the rom was intended (in its raw state) for a different device.
THat said, the current Rom im on with my HD has a much newer build (from rodium/topaz) than the stock 1.56 or 1.14 for the HD.
Why not try a cooked one and reap the benfits, if you dont like it, try another, or another or just flash back stock?
Thanks, I know by trial and error you can often find a solution, but so far I tried a 6.5 and two 6.1 ROMs (the second being more or less a stock one however optimised), but none really impressed me in terms of performance compared to the original stock ROM. Basically I didnt find them really to perform faster.
I have to admit I am not really a WM expert (my first experience was a WM 5 Wizard) but I am wondering whether I could still tweak/improve the overall performance to be a bit more fluid by simply choosing the right ROM (or installing possibly lacking drivers).
Also I wondering whether an upgrade from the current #20764 to a more recent build (like #21051 or even 6.5) would be recommended.
Thanks again.
Does nobody else have some comments or ideas?
