3g/UMTS/HSDPA Video Chat? - General Topics

With my laptop, I use a UMTS/HSDPA data card through Vodafone Germany to connect to the web. I just got done video chatting with my brother in Australia, it was awesome because I brought my laptop down to the street to show him my neighborhood. Aside from the crazy looks the native Berliners gave me, it was a seamless experience. SO, its obvious that the technology exists to do this with a UMTS/HSDPA cell phone, but what one? can anyone please help me, I really want to show him the rest of my city, but I'm not lugging my laptop on the S-Bahn!
Thanks!

ms portrait if it support the cam in the pda and he have the pc version on his pc should work i think
other option is normal 3g video call but thats pretty pricy
dont know of any other chat apps that support video in their pda flavours
msg and skype sure dont

Another GREAT way to play YouTube, Google Video & Veoh Videos for both WM platforms!!

Another GREAT way to play YouTube, Google Video & Veoh Videos for both WM platforms!!
It was just a few days ago that I’ve reported on the latest developments of playing back YouTube (and similar) videos on both Windows Mobile platforms.
Developing for Windows Mobile is so blazingly fast that immediately after publishing my article, a brand new and even better solution has been released, which doesn’t require any manual intervention to search and play videos any more.
There is an excellent tutorial, along with the two CAB files you need, HERE (related thread HERE). Please follow this tutorial on setting up the new player. Note that, in order to play back videos on a touchscreen-less MS Smartphone (Windows Mobile Standard) platform, you’ll need THIS TCPMP CAB file (instead of the one linked in the tutorial) – while the other CAB file, FlashVideoBundle.CAB, can be installed on Smartphones as well.
After installing, just go to, say, YouTube and click any video on, say, the main homepage. The video playback will (almost) immediately start, after switching to TCPMP.
Compared to the MobyTube-based solution explained in my previous tutorial,
The pros:
when you click a link in the REAL YouTube (and the other video repositories), you will be taken straight to TCPMP playing back the clip. No MobyTube searching / copy-pasting is necessary!
Smartphone compliance!
The cons:
not compatible with alternative browsers like Opera Mobile or NetFront; with them, stick to the MobyTube solution explained in my previous tutorial. Note that it’s compatible with all PIE plug-ins (tested with PIEPlus and MultiIE; the latter on both (Pocket PC’s and Smartphones) platforms)
no pre-WM5 compliance
All in all, GO GET IT! You’ll LOVE it!
not compatible with opera you say? is there a way at all to make it compatible or would this be too hard?
also would it be possible you could post FlashVideoBundle.CAB here to avoid registeration at that site?

nvm i couldnt wait so i downloaded it and here it is:
cool works well on the excalibur. Shame theres no skip forward or back though, just a weird speed control thing.
thanks
works great on hermes. pretty good. thanks
on my tornado i get an error: could not open url! i have a edge connection, and i use a orange proxy. i think cause this is the problem, in tcmp i don't have were to set my proxy connection.
the first error was on video.google.com. the seccond error: video not avaible.(may have been removed) i get it on mobtube, youtube.
Works on my Ameo , absolutely briliiantly - Really surpassed my expectaions of how youtube would ever be on a mobie !
OK ,so I am going Via Skweezer AND using a good HSDPA connection - but even so , the videos appear to load QUICKER than they do on my PC (mac actually) with a 6mb connection !
I suspect the performance would be not as good on a vanilla 3G connection - but that is hardly the hardware / softwares fault
Thank you very much ! only last week , a friend tried to impress me by showing me "youtube" on his n95 , which was really a pixelated , postage stamp sized picture , over a pre selected 10 or so videos - I can't wait to see his face when I show him this !
Works perfectly on my Trinity, am going to try and sort it on my Alpine (WM2003SE), will report back.
any help for me?
Still testing here. I have TCPMP embedded in ROM so I had to edit the CAB's default install directory to \Windows.
Google Video works while docked. Can't test YouTube yet because it's blocked here!

I have no proxy with my 3G connection, works great. But the files are quite large, around 20MB for 10 mins video, watch out.
im on edge going through proxy, doesnt work. just says video not available, may have been removed.
Just tested on wifi and it worked like a charm
Doesnt work through proxy which my GPRS connection uses, what a disappointment...
hopefully someone will fix this.
this is fantastic thank you!

Recieving an MSN Video call on ATT Tilt

Does anyone know of a way to view someone's webcam using your ATT Tilt.
I am asking because my parents and I chat using windows live messenger. Obviously you can video chat if you are on the computer but there are times that they want to show me things and a video chat would be more beneficiary. Any ideas? I thought I saw something simular to this question a while ago on the forums but I was unable to find it in my search.
as far as i know the current pocket msg dont support any type of video calls
MSPortrait is currently the closest to achieving what you want to do, but its development seems to have ground to a halt and it can't use the front camera (Kaiser)
Live messenger supports voice clips in either direction but not video
Orb allows you to view and listen to a PCs webcam but it is only 1 way
I have Emailed the developers of Portrait at MS and they stated they will let me know of any updates as they are released.
I know old Post
Here is a solution for those that want to do video chat with there TILT ... works from Phone to PC (haven't tried Phone to phone yet) ... also you can use this with MSN / YAHOO / ICQ ect Chat apps
http://www.octro.com/
Now if only the TILT had a Camera on the FRONT!!

Skype &HTC

Sorry if I have missed a topic with the same question but is it possible to make video conference with skype and htc cruise?
How can we use the front camera for Video Conf through the net?
Thank you in advance.
In short, no.
I think only piece of software I have ever seen that's remotely near to providing what you want is Microsoft Portrait and that is a long way from being a viable videoconferencing app.
Front camera is a good place for collecting fluff and that's about it.
it should work for normal network video calls whoever use those
For local mobile networks the video conference is working (3G). But the fact is ... the cost of money for making video calls. By using wifi is cheaper and faster (i think). Do you have any idea for making video calls through internet (talking using the cruise or other 3g phone making v.c. to desktop/laptop pc).
THANKS
no no software i know of for pocketpc does it
there was a program called ms portrait but as i recall it dident work with
frontCams which kinda made video calls troublesome
AGAIN THANKS for your time.

Video Calling in the US: update?

Hello all:
I am considering buying a HTC X7510 (with the front camera). One major attraction for me is the ability to do video calling (by Skype or perhaps another service), and the front camera in the X7510 seems to be useful for that purpose.
I did a search of this capability and it appears that in the US neither ATT nor T-Mobile offer video calling capabilities, but all posts I have read are dated from 2007, so I am wondering if this situation has changed.
So, I'd like to know if video calling in the US is possible, and if so, if it is possible on the X7510.
Thanks in advance.
Video calling
I'm not in the US, but I also partially chose to buy a 7510 instead of the 7501 because of the forward-facing second camera, which I intended to use with Skype. (Not that I'm anything special to look at, but at the time my grandson was on an extended stay overseas, and loves to see the tractor and farm...)
Well, to answer the question about Skype, their mobile version doesn't appear to support video calls - what a bummer....

Where is the VIDEO CHAT PC to ANDROID functionality?

Guys,
It does seem to me that Skype randomly dropped the ball; Fring does not support video chat anymore, and other video chat application do not support PC to Android functionality. The technology is HERE; however why are all of these video products limiting themselves in this way? Is creating a PC app that difficult? I just don't understand. It seems so obvious!!! It's the ONE SINGLE THING that we cannot get and are looking for.
Sales pitch they don't want you to know
Even though we all know that video chat will work with Wifi (that we pay for already) -- I really believe that these big corporations really want to release Video Chat at the same time LTE will be realeased with newer phones that, again, will already have front facing camera when some of us currently have already technology already. Skype is releasing Video chat to Verizon exclusively which will give an incentive for people to want to go to Verizon to use video chat. This technology already exist but they would like for us to use it at a price (buying a new phone and switching to Verizon if we didn't do so already). That is why Skype does not do video chat, when they can! Fring to Yahoo messenger does not want to use video chat, when they can! Fring to MSN messenger does not want to use video chat when they can! Fring PC to Phone does not exist and they want it to stay that way as well as Tango PC to Phone does not exist as well.
What we need is PC to PHONE VIDEO Chat -- how hard is that ?
Thats my 2 cents. Please let me know if you guys agree on this idea of trying to sell video chat for more money then just releasing it for free. I have tried to find PC to Android video chat functionality and I cannot. Please enlighten me if you guys have or know of this technology that works!
Thanks.
