I installed several programs on my Cruise and unfortunately the device cannot be turned off anymore.
If I hold the button on top of the device and hold it, you get the message that you are turning the device off....but it puts it in hibernate....
I don't really know which program caused the problem, since I seldom turn my phone off. So in the 2 weeks I have the phone, I tried to turn it off only once.
In the beginning the button worked...but now...not anymore.
I know I can try a hard reset, but I am reluctant...since I have to install everything again.
The software I installed were:
SBSH PocketBreeze (uninstalled it)
PZP tools (uninstalled it)
BatteryStatus Advanced
SPB Diary
HTC Home Customizer
At least these are the programs of which I think could have caused the problem.
Does anybody know how to correct this, without hardresetting?
Same situation for me .....
Maybe HTC HomeCustomizer ???
you can try soft reseting the device with the stylus and see once it is back on if the problem persists. then u might want to try uninstalling the last application u installed to see if it makes a difference.

I have used HTC Home Customizer and do not have this problem. Have you tried a short double press of the power button? Sounds like the long press power off works by your descriptions. You may also want to check if xpshut will work for you.

I tried xpshut also with no results, now after hardresetting seems it's all ok. If the situation will repeat i'll write it in this thread, thanks mates
Problem seems to be resolved
The problem seems to be HTCHome v2.1 necessary for HHCustomizer to work. I installed it and i'm not able to turn off the device, after uninstalled it's all ok.
At least there is someone to share this inconvenience. Glad to hear you found out what caused it....however, does your Home Customizer still work?

No, it doesn't work without HTCHome v2.1
Keypad service
There's also a service, keypad, that if stopped, disables all buttons. Not sure if this applies to you or not, but I had stopped it on my TC by accident, and had the same issue you described.

Hi,
I lost the function of my disconnect or hang up button, the red hardware one on the side of the device.
Does anybody knows the registry entry for this button.
I do have HKLM\Software\oem\Keys but i think there is not this one.
The key just does nothing anymore, the green one works fine.
Thanks for helping,
Thomas
may be its a hardware screwup... did u drop ur exec ??
its allright again...
To my shame, I did not push strong enough several times... It works but needs to be pushed strongly. After breakfast it was much easier ;-)
So thanks, but IT WORKS!!
If I would know how to close a thread I would do so...
Thought my button was spoint too, but didn't push hard enough too.
Glad you manage to solve the problem, with some "energy". haha.
me, too...

I think there is a registry tweak but i am unable to find it.
all it needs is a restart!
this happens to my device sometimes that one of both of the keys stop functioning... they get fine after having a restart...

Well, with WM6 the power button doesn't seem to like to work. Has anyone else had this problem?

Are you using Wisbar Desktop as listed here
Would you like WM6? or WM5 with this?
I faced this problem with WAD installed, most of keyboard keys didn't work
i don't think uninstall it will solve because it tried it too.
hard reset and don't use it again
Not using WAD or anything like that... and the link doesn't work there but i know it's also been linked elsewhere...
gonna also (finally!) look at using another ROM...
I found L26 WM6 Pro Business V7 VideoCall 2 worked best. Had to load into boot-loader mode which did confuse me for 10-15 minutes
I've used a bunch of roms so far and two of them so far have worked fine for days but for some weird reason when I would turn it on then it wouldn't turn on anymore. I am not gonna mention names because I don't think it's their fault I think it's mine. Both of them tended to do this right after I installed new software and then later on I would restart the phone. Is there some type of limitation of how much I could third-party software I could install in a rom?

Ok my guess is you are using a touch rom. Here is what I am willing to bet has happened to you. You flashed the rom successfully, installed 3rd party software while the home plugin was still active on the home screen and now you are having problems rebooting.
I have 3 solutions for you.
1. Hard reset(hold comm manager and voice button while pressing reset button.)
2. take out memory card and sim card turn it on and then soft reset once it freezes.
3. DISABLE home plugin while installing new software.
Hope this helps.

Yea that's no joke. Just today my Wizard running TNT.1437 Touch started trying to connect to GPRS over and over again and wouldn't stop untill the battery completely died. It was only at 3% to begin with but it died really quick(batterystatus probably helped)

What Comm Manager are you using?
Check in the registry @ HKLM\Software\HTC\CommManager.
The WLAN key should end in \TNETW12511.
Then soft reset, if this doesn't work post all the values in WLAN and I will have a look.
wow.. wifi seems to be working now.. ive done about 5 soft resets and that did nothing before... but anyways thanks for the help

A Hard Reset will fix that wife problem.
Hold down both soft buttons and Insert your stylus into the small hole on the bottom.
Am I sick? or is this just HTC humor (if so I didn't know they had any)
P.S. It's 11:30 pm on a Sunday, I really need sleep.
Dave;
Same problem here, WiFi won't turn on.
I am using Schap's 6 button Comm Mgr cab on of the latest ATT rom release.
Checked the CommMgr registry key and it had two key values, the one did not end with the TNETW12311 as suggested. I tried changing just the ending but that did not work.
I also changed the Name value key to wrlsmgr.exe as that was the name of the exe I found in the Windows directory. That did not help either. If I run wrlsmgr directly then I can turn Wifi on and off.
I figure at this point my WLAN key is all screwed up so if you could provide me the correct values I will try to enter them.
Thanks!
Mark
Change name to WLanSettings.exe, I think let me know if it doesn't work.

The executable required should NOT be "WLanMgr.exe" but should be instead "WLANSettings.exe".
Has this been done?
And it should be the corrected WLAN value of TNETW12511

Must depend on the ROM, I have had this issue before with one of Schapps 6 btn comm managers.
Those were the two changes I made to get it working.

A hard reset fixed it!
I restored my system from a backup and it stopped working. I turned off PhoneAlarm and - bingo - it worked again.
The "5" and the "WLANSettings.exe" followed by a hard reset seems to have fixed it for me too.
Thanks all!

Actually, if you made the changes and then did a hard reset, the changes went away. If you are using PhoneAlarm, there is a brand new release coming out today that will fix this (at least it fixed mine). The last release screwed WIFI up altogether.
Hilarious

and DaveShaw;
hilarious remarks both of you. Had a great laugh. Thanks.
im having the opposite problem i cant turn wifi off using 6 button com manager key is correct but when i try turn off to save battery it just turns back on any ideas lads
Are you using vista by any chance?
My computer at work has Vista and after I plug the phone into it, wifi won't turn on until i do a reset.
On the other hand, my laptop (xp) at home doesn't cause the phone to have this issue.
Im running wm6.0 that shiped with the phone.
The title says it all really. I've tried searching the forums by the way but couldn't get it to work.
I go into connection manager from the today screen and tap on the bluetooth to switch it on, the egg timer comes up for a few seconds as if it's trying to turn on, but then can't. Is this a regular issue? I can't find a self diagnosis tool on this machine, which I've had on all my previous Pocket PCs, is there one hidden away somewhere?
Many thanks for any help.
i think it's just broken. some kind of hardware failure. i got the same problem. have to send it in. :-(
Make a hard reset. I helped for me.
Right I'll try a hard reset if someone could just tell me how to do it. Many thanks.

First hit on google for "hard reset polaris": http://www.hardreset.eu/htc_touch_cruise_polaris_hard_reset_soft_reset.html
You might wanna put some effort in it yourself first, before asking.

Point taken, but the problem with your links' information and all the hard reset guides I initially found, is that the buttons referred to aren't the same as the Orbit 2. Even if you search for Orbit 2 reset info you get a page as you've linked about touch cruise.
Anyway found the info eventually but hard resetting didn't help the bluetooth problem, looks like I've got to send it back to O2. Sucks.
My colleague's Polaris has also gone RMA because of the same bluetooth problem. Hard reset didn't help either.
BTW, now that you know how to hard reset the Orbit2, maybe you can post it here to help others?
Hard resetting Orbit2
Good point. To hard reset the Orbit2 you just push and hold down the "OK" and the windows start menu buttons simultaneously and then press the recessed reset button once. Continue to hold the 2 buttons until the hard reset prompt screen appears then follow the instructions.
So, maybe this isn't the isolated problem they'd have me believe it is then. I've noticed that when the GPS is in use + bluetooth and maybe wifi, the unit gets very hot and I wonder whether this caused it to overheat.....
