Okay, I've done my fair share of searching for this answer, but I'm coming up dry. I'm trying to resize an AVI to 320x240 to put on my phone, but I can't find a proper program to do so. I tried VirtualDub, but for some reason, just resizing the video then trying to save the output is creating a 12GB video file.
So, what are some of your recommendations for quickly resizing video for your phones?
Edit: Nevermind, I just wasn't choosing a proper encoder.

I've been going nuts trying to figure out why some videos just won't show up in HTC Album, but others encoded with the exact same settings (seemingly) will.
I usually use Handbrake to do my encodes. I start with the iphone preset, then change the quality setting to 600 kbps. If it's a widescreen video, I may use the cropping to crop the content to 4:3. I change the file type from m4v to mp4 because album never seem to want to see the m4vs at all (even though I could have sworn it's supposed to).
MOST videos show up just fine, but not all. For some of them, I'll see album try to recognize them the first time I navigate to that folder. It will create a space for the video for a moment, and try to get a preview thumbnail of the video to put in it. A moment later, it will fail, and remove that video from the list entirely.
Here's the really strange thing -- if I click on the space where the video is supposed to be, right when it first shows up (before it has a chance to scan it for a thumbnail and then remove it), it will open in the fullscreen player and play just fine. If I wait a moment longer, and hit it after it's tried to generate the preview but just before it's going to vanish, i get an error saying it can't play that sort of mp4 file.
I've been using newer roms that use the blackstone (or other) album and fullscreen player packages, but I tried installing the oem album and had the same thing happen.
These files play fine in mobile wmp, and they play fine in the fullscreen player if i can trick it into opening them -- so what's the problem?
Oh, one more detail -- I've seen the same thing with other encoders, including the one that's being developed in the blackstone forum (but now has vga as an option for us non-widescreen folks).
Windows media didnt work to play a few basic movie files so I was wondering if there is any FREE way to watch videos? I see people recommending coreplayer but it costs money which suck.
Only other player am aware of is TCPMP, it does the job. Although i hate the user interface, its same as it was when i used on my iPAQ.
try this for converting your videos on your computer, no need to fiddle about with settings. just add your file you want converting, put in your desired output directory and convert. i found it on here the other day tried it and it worked flawlessly, nice picture too, obviously if your more advanced than me you could maybe fiddle about to increase picture quality and stuff but if your looking for a quick fix to watch video on your phone this is the one for you. enjoy.

Hi,
I have used handbrake to convert a DVD movie for playing on the Nexus S, according to settings found on a nexusoneforum thread (840-how-convert-any-video-your-nexus-one) Basically the settings are the same than the iPhone, but with correct extensions and some tweaking. The video has only P/I frames, no B frames.
When converting a 5min chapter, the resulting video was perfect! I got a 45MB file, which could be played in the stock player. However, after converting the whole DVD (file size of 1.1GB), using the same settings, then I get the message "Sorry, this video cannot be played". I tried other players but with the same issue.
Has anyone got an idea? Is there a maximum size for videos?
Thanks in advance for your help.
I return with some new experiments. I partially encoded the movie, trying various number of chapters, still in h264 (x264) in handbrake. I noticed that a 155MB, 17 minutes file plays correctly, but not a 275MB. I don't know if the problem is size or duration, I would need to try different resolutions for that.
Has anybody tried it?
I just tried to play these files from the USB storage but on my computer. The file itself is ok, but VLC can play the 17 minutes file, but cannot play the longer one with this error:
Code:
No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "undf". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.
I now suspect the problem lies with handbrake, that uncorrectly tags the stream formats (but why does it happen for a longer stream??). I will try to edit these files with avidemux or virtualdub to see what is inside.
I found the issue and it has nothing to do with the encoding, but with the uploading to the phone!
Indeed, the original file is readable. I use Linux, with the KDE desktop. It seems that when the screen times out (or the phone goes to sleep?), the upload is somewhat interrupted and the file is corrupted! Even if I took care to unmount the mounting point of the Nexus on the Linux filesystem.
I tried again after I increased the screen timeout to 30 minutes, and it worked ! I was able to upload the 1.1GB file to the phone and the movie could be played.
Is that a known issue, or am I doing something wrong?
Besides, I still have difficulties to unmount the Nexus:
Code:
$ umount /media/35EE-1E0E/
Unmount failed: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
The mounting point of the Nexus disappears though and the file is correctly uploaded. Has anyone encountered this problem (or has tips)?
I was wondering, aside from putting videos on the computer and converting them, is there an application/setting/anything that will allow me to record to .avi, .mpeg, or really anything that is more common of a file extension?
I want to use DLNA on my PS3 but I can't get it to work with .3gp.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Figured I would bump this up one time to see if I get any response.
I believe its just mp4 in a 3gp container. I didn't think you could stream straight from the phone to the PS3 anywway, so you are putting them on a computer anyway right?
I use the android app imediashare to view photos and other content on my phone via wifi to my PS3.
It basically acts as a DLNA server over WiFi visible to the PS3.
Argh, I can't seem to make that first sentence make sense, hopefully it is clear.
To abridge what Character Zero said, it really is just an mp4. Rename the file and delete the 3gp extension and just type in mp4. It should work like this without conversion.
You're not the only one who this irritates by the way. I've always hated 3gp since the old days of my LG flip phones, albeit the quality is superior on today's 720p 8MP camera phones so I can deal with changing the file extension after a video is saved.
You've probably already stumbled across this. I understand it's for the Incredible, but did you try it anyway? http://www.xda-developers.com/android/save-videos-as-mp4-instead-of-3gp-on-your-droid-incredible/
I'm guessing you'll need a completely different camcorder app to record in a different format. If you make one, let me know.
I would like to edit my 3D videos on my pc, I copy the .mp4 file to my laptop and find nothing even plays it.
On further examination I have determined the video is using the 3gp4 container and that the video itself is Mp4 V1 according to the Gspot program for Windows but nothing will open it to play or edit.
I have tried every Windows program I can think of from VirtualDubMod to AviDemux and Super, does anyone have any idea how to edit or even convert this video to a playable or editable format please?
Dave
Edit: Found a solution, posted solution as a guide in a seperate post
I've edited stereofootage using The Foundery's NukeX but it was an image sequence. Meaning i had left eye and right eye frames. Ill mess around with it tomarrow and see if im able to import my 3D footage in to any of my video editing software. Or seperate the footage in to left and right eye sequences. If your trying to edit your 2D footage try Adobe After Effects or Premeire.

I can edit 3D images but nothing, even VLC, will read yet alone edit the video produced by the Optimus 3D. Ideally I would like, as with other mepg 4 files, to edit the video in VirtualDubMod as I do with 2D footage (from other sources) but unfortunately for some reason the mpeg 4 video is stored in a non standard 3gp mp4 container that so far no programs will read.
Dave
Though it would not play initially, I was able to convert it to another format using AnyVideoConverter and then view on my PC using the stereoscopic player (I have nVidia 3D Vision and 3D monitor). I also have K-Lite Codec pack installed.
I tried the trial version fo that but it always says fail
Dave
You could try to upload it to Youtube and use the online editor. It even allows you to add music to your movies, etc.
I could try that but I dont want to upload, and thus share, my videos then redownload them just to edit them. Very dissapointed in how badly the video is contained in a non standard 3gp variant when the video could have been stored in standard mpeg 4 format. I will have to just hope somehow a program out there can convert the video as uploading a potentially large file with my isp can take hours and so would be impractical
Dave
You don't have to share what you upload, but I agree that it would be a pita to upload large files to the service...
I found a way and will put a brief guide in a seperate post in case it helps someone

Great news
You need a 3D video editor

Wondering if you're still there.
Is your original video file mp4? You need a 3D video editor which can edit mp4 videos.
A good 3D video editing program can help to edit videos. But you should know that viewing 3D video on your pc need 3D glasses.
