I'm just about to buy a Samsung i8000 (Omnia II) in China. It will come with Windows Mobile 6.5, in Chinese. I can't read that much Chinese, so want to change the language to English.
Some time ago, I read that with WM6.5, it is possible to change the language, and that it required a hard reset. I've been searching for hours now, and cannot find the original post.
So my questions are :
1. Is it possible to change the OS language of WM6.5?
2. What languages can you choose? Is Simplified Chinese one of them?
3. What is the method for changing the language? i.e. where do I find this option?
4. For those who might have changed from Chinese OS to English OS (or for those who have the English OS who have tried this) Can you still send and receive text messages in Chinese?
I don't know if I've posted this in the wrong section. I thought it would be easy for someone with WM6.5 to check if there is a language selection in the menu. Anyway, I'm still searching, and have come across this website :
http://www.mobilityminded.com/4078/samsung-omnia-language-packs
They mention for the European model, it is possible to change the language into "French, Italian, German, Russian, Norwegian, Dutch, Czech, Greek, Spanish, Portuguese, Finnish, Danish, Polish and Swedish.".
If anyone has WM6.5 on a phone bought in China (or Asia), I'd be really grateful if they could tell me what language packs are pre-installed in ROM.
Hey guys I really enjoy the way to write with swype but i miss the germany vocubulary.
i´ve tried to put the german files in the swype folder but i couldnt select the language
so my question now

There is another keyboard named Dasur SlideIT which is similar to Swype and supports many languages (German too).
Thank you Livven i bought slideit but it didnt fixed me it has a bad style and its not that fluently than swype
after i put the german files in the swype directory there is a "german" to select in the menu but it dont works.
after i select it it stays at EN!
Moved as not software release..
Hey guys!
Here's some info about our language support. Currently Swype supports:
English (US and UK), French, German, Italian, Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Malay, Russian, Slovenian,Portuguese (Brazil and Portual), Romanian, Slovak, Swedish, Serbian (Latin Keyboard), Czech, Greek, Polish, Indonesian, Norwegian (Nynorsk and Bokmål), Turkish, Icelandic.
Early this year we'll be adding in the following:
Croatian, Finnish, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Ukranian, Arabic, Hindi, Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese - Mandarin (simplified), Korean, Urdu, Farsi, Estonian, Catalan, Latvian, Filipino (Tagalog), Hebrew, Galician, Lithuanian, Thai and a few more.
If you don't see your language listed, keep in mind we're developing languages at the request of our partners and customers. Also we only install the languages that an OEM has requested on any given phone - so from phone to phone and country to country you will see a different combination of dictionaries.
We're glad you like Swype, Subnormal, but it sounds like you're using an unlicensed copy. Swype is currently NOT available for download. So if you have a downloaded copy, that means it is an unlicensed version. Our dictionaries are specficially encoded to work with Swype so an unsupported dictionary will cause Swype to perform poorly or not at all.
We will eventually get to a download model (of both Swype and our dictionaries) but currently we only pre-load our software on OEM devices. We'll keep you posted on www[dot]swypeinc[dot]com as that changes..
We're looking forward to getting a device out that is supported in your market, Subnormal.
Regards,
The Swype Team

Well that's good to hear
English version of i8000 Omnia 2 has Swype pre-installed, but german one doesn't???
Dear SWYPE Team,
I don't realize why you use Samsung - especially the i8000 Omnia 2 - and provide your software with it, but that's your choice.
I just don't get the reason, why you provide the english i8000 Omnia 2 with your software, but not the german one. Why the hell is the Swype company doing this? Also just providing phones with your software but not the software itself is some kind of stupid.
Think about it - you would make much more money when also selling the software for itself AND provide it pre-installed with future phones.
I'd like to know why the heck is it integrated into the american / english i8000 Omnia 2, but not the german one?
Thanks in advance.
CHTEditor Translations
Translators required
If you don't know it, the CHTEditor thread is here.
As requested (many times), I've added translation capabilities to CHTEditor. If you are interested in translating the application to your language, please check the list below and see if anyone is already offering to translate to that language. If not, post your interest and tell me which language(s) you want to translate.
If you offer to translate a language that's not already on the list, then I'll be in touch with an invitation to a private group where I explain how you do the translation.
There's over 150 phrases that need translating, so it make take a while. Please only register interest if you're happy to do it.
Please don't PM me about this as I'm watching this thread, not my inbox.
Thanks a lot
Update
The story so far - 22nd April, 2010
There's a quite a lot of people that have already offered to do translations. I've given them the kit they need and now it's up to them to get on and do the actual hard work.
I'll be releasing a new version of the editor that offers mulit-language capabilities. I plan to make these accessible from both this thread and from within the application, via a languages menu option.
All being well, we should have some translations working on your devices by next weekend (01/05/2010).

Dear all,
on my i320 there is only language support for dutch, english and french.
I think I have meanwhile a valid file and registry record:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9\LdbDlls]
"0107"="eT9.German.Ldb.dll"
and meanwhile all languages are mapped identical using
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9\Ime\KbdDlls]
"000105FF"="eT9.Dis.Qwerty.kbd.dll"
and also I enhanced the allowed languages in the registry with german, so it is offered in the eT9 menu.
I can switch to english, french, dutch, but when trying to switch to german, the system seems to ignore this and continues with the last selected language.
Is the
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9\Ime\KbdDlls]
"00010507"="eT9.Dis.Qwerty.German.kbd.dll"
mapping somehow required to work with eT9.German.Ldb.dll ?
I cannot find eT9.Dis.Qwerty.German.kbd.dll and therefore try to setup the german language like the other languages - (why) is this not possible ?
Thanks for your help, Sirup

I would love to see Norwegian on Swype as well but I don't think that there is such thing. Swype doesn't have support for Norwegian (not yet at least)
According to Swype's website they have Norwegian support and have had that for a long time. From their website:
"Hi All,
We've had so many questions about which languages we support, we put together a list! Thanks for inquiring. Currently Swype supports:
English (US and UK), French, German, Italian, Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Malay, Russian, Slovenian,Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Romanian, Slovak, Swedish, Serbian (Latin Keyboard), Czech, Greek, Polish, Indonesian, Norwegian (Nynorsk and Bokmål), Turkish, Icelandic. "
Then they say something about adding more early 2010, so this has to be a 2009 message. But why isn't it possible to find a version with Norwegian then? Driving me crazy!
Swype is not sold or offered separately, as a stand-alone app.
Since they sell their solution to phone manufacturers, there might be whatever phone by whatever brand which has some of those languages on board.
As we all know, the HD2 version comes with 5 major languages.
I know it isn't sold separately. Lots of the stuff that is available on this forum isn't sold either... It's mostly ripped from ROMs of other phones. I know that there are phones sold in Norway with Norwegian Swype, but I don't know if that's only Android phones or Windows Mobile phones as well. I guess I should have asked if anybody know of another Windows Mobile version that has Norwegian languague and can be adapted to HD2 use.
