Poor you, you must have set Encryption in the security options

i think i have enable that b4 ...i just perform the format and upgrade of the rom ...so...anyway to restore back the encrypted files??

Well, try to get back the original file name and remove the encryption

the file name is there..Eg. Filename.txt.0da5aa84.menc
so if i just remove the 0da5aa84.menc and remain the Filename.txt.. i still cant open the file. I've disable the encryption in the Security already but still the same. Any idea?

Got it.
The name of the audio file is hwandsw.wav this is a wav file. So what you need to do is go into the windows folder and delete the file. Now take whatever .wav file you want (realize you need a really really short one) like a half a second. Rename it hwandsw.wav place it in the windows folder, soft reset and voila. It worked for me and should you also.
I would recommend making a copy of the original, so you can restore it later if you want.
Man I am having to much fun with this, now every time I touch screen or any buttons my phone farts.
Somehow this doesnt work to me, i exchanged the file with another sound and iam still getting the old clicky taping sound (after soft reset ofc).
When i checked the original wave file it doesnt sound like the taping sound, is it really the correct file?
Doesn't work for me either... doesn't change sound

It's probaly in use, did you disable the sounds before trying? If so use a 3rd part file explorer that ignores permissions.

I tried to delete or rename the file (usine TC) but unsuccessful. Then I tried to copy a wav file renamed as hwandsw.wav into \windows - successfull. Soft reset. But the sound did not change... Still the original sound. Then I deleted the (copied) hwandsw.wav in \windows - the original hwandsw.wav file in ROM appeared.
Any advise.. ?

This is how it went....(event sequence)
1) Disabled screen tap sound -> no sound on screen tap
2) Installed .cab file, successful, soft reset.
3) Enabled screen tap sound - > gives default sound (not the new sound intended)
4) Checked file properties using TC - file did not reside in ROM. Copied file to another folder and play using media player - > gives sound intended.
5) Delete file in \windows -> the default hwandsw.wav appeared (properties showed reside in ROM)
Possibilities:
1) The file did not overwrite the default in ROM
2) The wrong file was targeted (for the screen tap).
Good learning event though.

[Resolved] [Q] Samsung Galaxy Beam GT-I8530 Baseband Unknown

Hi there!
I was tinkering about on the system files of my Galaxy Beam, and (maybe) accidentally messed up with the partition of the device.
The device runs on Jelly Bean 4.1.2 and now its mobile data service is disabled, and when I checked the baseband it says "XXXX" (I believe this is the same case as baseband unknown).
I tried to repair it using Szaby59's method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145464), but to no avail.
I wonder if there is another way to restore the baseband of my phone? I understand I might have messed with the efs and modemfs files, will it help if there is anyone who is kind enough to share his/her stock efs/modemfs files, and I get to use those files to my phone?
Hope the information was clear enough, thanks in advance.

Your file of "modemefs.zip" REALLY worked on my I8530 phone! I unzipped the files and copied into the root directory of "modemefs", then reboot, finally the baseband came back!!!:good:

First make sure your phone is rooted and Root Explorer is installed.
Open Root Explorer, copy the files to /modemfs directory.
If failed to copy, one reason may be that /modelfs directory has insufficient space. Because Android system allocates different space for some specific system directories.
When you turn to /modemfs, Root Explorer will show "XX MB used, XX MB free" on the top.
If the free space is very little, you will NOT be able to replace the model file, so you need to consider to delete some useless or irrelevant files inside this directory.

[Q] Wi-Fi not working

After flashing stock ROM on my Moto G I was not able to use Wi-Fi, it does not turn on. So I tried some other ROMS from various countries and nothing. However when I flashed the Nexus G - beta 4 custom ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2606943) I got it working again.
Can someone please explain what is happening, and help me?

same here its burnsyboo im just downloading Nexus G the problem i have is i formated /persist /pds /firmware and the rest because i thought this was now mandatory in 4.4 i formated them in the new 4.4 cwm and now when i flash a custom rom or stock i flick that switch for WIFI and nothing it wont turn on im not sure why help would really be appreciated it may be that me and TiagoPeixoto formated the files wifi runs on i hope the nexus g rom will fix my wifi issues if not could someone please go to the root of there phone in root explorer or file manager and pull persist for us and pds them are the main files that WIFI runs on i think if someone could do that for us and upload it then i will be very greatfull thanks
Solved
So, I got it working again. The problem was indeed in the persist folder, it was missing a file named WCNSS_qcom_wlan_factory_nv.bin. So I managed to extract it from the persist.img and moved it to persist folder again. After that I edited the bin file and inserted my MAC address. Finally I have flashed my phone to stock ROM again and it worked just fine.
Here's the file:
fixed
Thank you so much this fixed my problem as well
Ok. Let's try but first let me e sure how to do it.
1. Edit persist.img with the .bin file inside.
2. Installl stock rom on my phone.
3. Flash persist.img in fastboot mode.
It's that correct?

First of all check if your persist folder is missing the bin file I have mentioned. If it is, You have to extract that file from persist.img or You can just download the one I uploaded. Then you must edit it and insert your mac address and after that you just have move it to the persist folder using a root explorer.
I could not flash persist.img, bootloader was always returning an access denied message, so i figured a way to explore the persist.img file using LinuxReader and extracted the WCNSS_qcom_wlan_factory_nv.bin from it.
So basically i ''flashed'' persist manually. Copy, edit, paste.
Thanks
Fixed
I have 2 days searching the solution and try with so many files.
Thanks
Please, could someone explain me exactly (for n00b like me) how to solve this problem?
Solved
Im lost on how to do this... do i just extract the file to the persist folder??
I formated /persit folder also, tried install stock rom, but no success with wifi
The problem is: i have no persist folder inside root and when i try to create it, the folder was gone after reboot.
Bootloader dont let me flash persist.img
What can I do?
Could someone help me, please?
When I try to "fast boot flash persist persist.img", I get a permission denied. Am I missing something?

Wi fi problem
Hi guys,
i've a Moto G 16 Gb purchased on Amazon.De, so german phone. I live in italy and when i connect to wi fi no problem. When i go in switzerland and i try to connect to another wi fi net (my girlfriend's line) provided by Swisscom, it doesn't work: well, i insert passoword, but it cant connect ... i called Swisscom, they tried to reset router and so on , but still persist this problem. The person (swiss) that sells me the phone (i bought it as used) said that he has the swiss provider Cablecom and it didn't have any problem. I'm fully stock with 4.4.2 . Anyone has any idea? thank you
ps: with my galaxy s3 i have no problem both in italy and in switzerland
Can anyone help in explaining the above?
....to a relative newbie? I've downgraded from 4.4.2 down to 4.3 and now my wi-fi is not working anymore, the MAC address is lost.
I'd really, really appreciate any help with regards to the procedure in going about fixing the 'Persist Folder' .
Thank you for reading.
Please make any method to solve Persist folder

I'm sorry, but can you please elaborate? I'm have this wifi issue and it's really annoying.
You say to extract the file from persist.img, but where exactly do I find that? The file you uploaded is not persist.img.
How would I edit and insert my mac address?
Where is this persist folder? I can't find it anywhere.
If you could respond that'd be great.

You'll find persist folder at /persist.
You need filemanger with root permission, the you can see this folder.
So copy WCNSS_qcom_wlan_factory_nv.bin to your SD card. Use your filemanger to copy this file to /persist.
Activate wi-fi, the you'll find your mac adress under Settings > About Phone > Status > Wi-fi MAC Adress
Open WCNSS_qcom_wlan_factory_nv.bin on your phone with a text editor and type your mac adress inside that file and save it.
I have not tried it because i did not have this issue. But this is the way how i understood it.
simply copied the file in /persist, set permissions and rebooted
No MAC adress to enter
Works fine now
Thanks, very much!
You resolved me
Only its the put the WCNSS in the /persist folder and OK.
(You need to have the firmware with /persist).

Samsung Smart Switch (.md5) download location

Good Morning All,
I am posting this because I couldn't find anything about this on here. For you who are looking on the temp location that Smart Switch creates when downloading the Stock Firmwhere (.md5) file for the Galaxy S6 Edge, for me it was the location below. I am using a sprint Version SM-G925P. not sure if this will apply to you or not, but worth a try. you will need to initiate the download from Smart switch once it starts downloading, you can unplug your phone from the PC (that way your phone doesn't get wiped). After download reaches 100% go to the file location. copy the file rid away and paste it to your desired folder.
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Temp\tmp2953.tmp.zipfolder
hope this helps.
C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\Temp\Binary\SM-G920F\
does anyone know if there is any way of changing the default folder to witch Smart Switch downloads the firmware?
looks like my system disk doesn't have enough space for the download and there's really NO WAY I could free any more of it

They don't want you to know where it is, so no.
Just go to the folder mentioned in the OP and search by date. It is usually named "tmpBABC.tmp" when being downloaded. Just find the same file size(around 2GB)

Actually there is a way to change the default download location of the firmware!
You can even change it to a different drive!
follow the steps:
1) Right click on my computer
2)click on properties
3) click on advanced system settings.
4)Click on Environmental Variables.
5)Under Variables, you will observe "TEMP" and "TMP". click on Temp and click EDIT. Change location to desired path. You can even puth a location path of a different drive. does not necessarily ave to be your system installed drive.By default the location is %USERNAME%....... Now repeat the same process for TMP, change location to the same desired path that you have chosen before.
6)OK, apply, Ok
7)Re-boot your computer, laptop (system). This is very important as the changes do not take effect until a re-boot.
8)Voila!! now smart switch will download the firmware to your desired location/path.
Thank me if you found this useful!!

yes, that's a way. but if i have bricked my phone, and all i can do is entering download mode, it won't proceed to decompress it. cuz samsung recently removed emergency reset feature in smart switch. ( i mean, the firmware file can be downloaded by enabling 'latest software predownload', but it won't decompress it until a working phone is connected...)

Sorry for using this old thread, but it matches my intention in some way.
I'd like to update via Smart Switch by placing the downloaded updates to the folder(s) mentionned above.
No matter where I place the files, no joy.
Is there a dedicated name convention I have to follow?
Any suggestion appreciated.
