Simple question? - HTC Tornado

Can i use internet connection from my PC (connected by cable - 512/64 speed) to surf on my mobile device?
I have c600, windows mobile 6.0, data cable ,...
on the other side i have cable net w. cable modem, speed 512/64, Windows XP SP2, Active Sync,...
if the answear is YES than can i split connection between PC and mobile.
(for example. 1/4of the speed uses mobile device and the rest for PC)
THX!

You should be able to as long as you had the option to do advanced network sharing (or whatever it's called) selected when you first mated the phone with the PC in ActiveSync. If you're not able to, delete the mating, and re-do it. You will see it - it's impossible to mate the phone without acknowledging this prompt (in ActiveSync v4.5).
As far as bandwidth sharing, I don't think you can split it up like that. The phone is using the PCs bandwidth, and I'm not sure if you can go into your routers settings to allocate bandwidth allocation. Why would you want to do that anyway?

Remote Desktop Mobile

Can someone help me with App Remote Desktop Mobile? I can´t connect my MDA Pro with my Laptop. The PDA is connected with my WiFi and the firewall is off. Then I insert the IP and the Domain from my PC, after that I try to connect and I get the message that it is not possible to connect.
So my question is, what is my failures and can someone help me?
Thx
are you tring to go from your PC to your phone?
If thats the case I am not sure if that is even possible.
from pc to phone is possible...
Download Pocket Controller Professional!
Regards
Arjan
Assuming you're running Windows XP, right click My Computer, and click Properties, and select the remote tab.
Is the tick in the box to allow users to connect remotely to it? If so, is the user you are trying to connect with enabled?

Wrong way around - I think he is trying to control his PDA with his PC. In this case, the default programs that come with the PDA can't do it.
I wonder, can you get a VNC server for PDA's....
Ah ok, I assumed he knew what the remote desktop app was for lol.
OK, search for an application called Soti Pocket Controller.
That controls the PPC from your PC.
The remote desktop app is to control your PC from your PPC.
RDM wm6 and vista
i cant connect to my vista laptop using remote desktop on my hermes.
Error: cannot connect
likely reasons:
1: the remote computer is not set up for this
2: reached max number of connections
3: network error
pretty sure its not the last 2
i cant seem to add user to remote desktop on laptop
any ideas or a step by step?

You have to install Activesync and will be done. Driver is installed with ActiveSync.
Try this version of AS...

Internet sharing from your Universal to an XP PC
I had looked for a solution for this for some time, I then tried the following option, which required my computer to be connected to the internet initially, I hope it works for you.
Enable Internet Sharing in your Universal, plug it into your internet enabled XP computer with the normal USB cable (Active Sync if installed should disable and lose it's green colour) your computer at this time should be looking for new hardware drivers, if you enable the option for it to look for drivers on the Microsoft site automatically (this takes some time for your computer to search the microsoft site and find the driver), then it sholud find it.
After the hardware driver successfully installs (forgive me I don't remember the name, it had 'idvendor & modem' somewhere in it) then you should be able to unplug your ethernet cable, USB internet connection, disable your wireless which every it is you use, and as long as you computer is set up correctly (I think automatically acquire DNS and IP , the default or standard settings found in networking should be fine) then you should be able to go through the whole process again and this time your computer has the right drivers and will be able to utilise internet connection sharing through your Universal channeling it through to all programs on you computer
It worked well for me, I had my work station on this internet sharing connection through my Universal and unlimited T-Mobile web&walk for 2 weeks, because when we moved our ISP could not initiate ADSL for that period, everyone in the office would use it and it was constantly logged in to remote exchange server, several instant messaging protocol
and surfed the net easily
Could you please tell me, how do I Enable Internet Sharing on my Universal, i have looked for a way to do it but I cannot find any setting or something similar.

Hi, you'll need to find Internet Connection Sharing cab or installer, it is very likely linked to on XDA Developers if you want to do a search, it might even be down loadable from Microsoft's site!
If any one finds one could they post a link?

Quickest Way to Wirelessly Transfer Files to my PPC from my Desktop?

Hi all,
I'm looking for the quickest way to wirelessly transfer files to my Pocket PC from my Desktop, without using ActiveSync.
Is it via BT Explorer? I have used this before but wonder if there is another way before I buy a BT dongle for my desktop. If there is an application out there that perhaps does it over WiFi, I'd like to try that. I'm willing to pay for it if it's a decent app.
How does everyone typically transfer files without having to connect to USB and fire up ActiveSync?
i just select the file on vista, right click on mouse and select "send to -> bluetooth device"
Cool, thanks for the reply. I use XP but it looks like it has this feature as well.
Depends what you mean by quickest. If you mean just click on file and send to other device, then bluetooth is the "quickest" once you have established the partnerships. If you mean how fast the file(s) get transferred to the other device, then WiFi will do it faster, but you need to map network drives, setup sharing, permissions, firewalls, etc. You would also need a program that allows mapped network drives, like Resco. Personally, I use bluetooth all the time to transfer files to/from my phone. I use Wifi only when I need to transfer music or pictures or large files. Hope this helps.

Browsing files stored on card from PC

Everytime I browse the files that are in my memory card of my pocketPC phone the windows explorer behavior is odd.
For example - when i click on a picture (locatsed on my card) i don't see it, it just shows a property screen insted.
Another example is when i copy files from pocket-pc to pc i dont see the files on my pc (the other way around works)
anyone know why is that?
This is the default behavior if you're browsing files in the PPC with Activesync. Use WM5Storage to turn your PPC into a flash drive and then browsing will be normal.
thanks for the prompt reply - unfortunately it doesn;'t work on my i780.
the PC seemed to recognize it but i don't get a new drive to browse the files on My Computer (running windows xp)
Under Settings | Connections make sure you have 'Enable advanced network fuctionality' unchecked.
it was unchecked.
Now after playing with th program- i cannot even hot sync...blah, nothing works.
under activeSync-->Connection i have only blanks.
Isn't this app the same as enabling USB Mass storage under the USB Connection shortcut?

Yes. In that case uninstall WM5Storage and us that option to turn your PPC into a flash drive for PC. By the way, using WM5Storage you can switch between Activesync connection and USB Storage , the same as with that option provided in your ROM. The point is your PPC can eoither be flash drive or a PPC (Activesync, etc.) but not both at the same time.
Another thing you might want to check is that Windows sometimes doesn't assign a drive letter to a new flash, so you must go into CONTROL PANEL-ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS-COMPUTER MANAGEMENT-DISK MANAGEMENT and manually assign an unused letter to that flash drive. This happens to me often.
thanks - i will give it a shot
Guys - bad news.
Now i can see my card as Mass Storage (after slected in USB Connection) but I cannot do activesync via the cable (only via bluetooth)
Anyone has a clue how do you restore my connection back - wm5storage have removed it from "activeSync-->Connection".
:-(

This is they way is supposed to happen. If you use your phone as a Mass Storage card reader, you CAN'T do Activesync and viceversa. I don't have that USB2PC setting, but I imagine if you un-select it you'll get back your normal Activesync function.

[Q] WM 6.5 - 'Charge Only Mode'

I am looking for a tweak\tool\registry hack (if possible) to have a Charge Only Mode for Windows Mobile 6.5 if at all it is possible. Most of the times, I am at office using my HD2 (Dual boot with 6.5 and DarkStone Android ) connected to the Laptop and it would be great if I can just connect it to my laptop without choosing either of the three options
1. ActiveSync
2. USB Storage Mode
3. Internet Sharing
P.S : I did lot of search for this option but was unable to find it and hence started this thread...but I will be more than happy if anyone can redirect me to an existing thread if any, for the same issue.
When your phone is charging off the laptop do you actually use any apps on it?
I'm like you in that I spend 2 days a week with my phone charging from the laptop, but I never use it for anything other than phone calls, so selecting disk drive does the job for me.
Any apps I'd need, I'd make sure were installed on the device.

Better use the active sync or the mass storage mode..As it is you wont be needing to install apps on your memory card thanks to the massive storage of the HD2 compared to the older WM devices...This shouldn't be a problem IMHO...
Cheers.
Ive got a really easy fix for this, just use a different cable, you can get cables or adaptors that will charge only and wont sync. When you want to sync just change the cable or take off the adaptor.
btw... such an adaptor is only £2.50 from amazon for my phone

This doesn't stop the action as such, but when you connect your phone to PC, with the 3 options you listed, there should be a a check box at the bottom "Don't ask me again", so whatever you choose will automatically happen next time (choosing USB storage will therefore not ativate ActiveSync/Device Centre on your PC. This can also be found under Settings->Other (miscellaneous settings)->USB to PC (see attachment).
Or, just use a wall socket charger?
Hi,
Thanks for your replies ! The reason I asked this question is because I do not have a Data Plan on Phone. I only use Wifi at home and office and Active Sync kills it. Data storage mode won't let me use the Storage which I kinda need (Don't ask me why? ) and ofcourse Internet sharing Mode just sends the phone into a crazy 'Connecting 3G Network'...loop.
Anyways, I think using the Charge Only Cable should do the trick for now..But I still feel that this mode will be helpful for few rares like me...Love tis mode in Android.

ActiveSync does not kill my Wifi - make sure the 'Allow wireless connections on device...' is checked under File->Connections Settings. Also ActiveSync should allow your phone to use your PC's internet connection (pass through) anyway.
The other thing to try is to delete the mobile device from within ActiveSsync as if you've never synced it before and when you next connect it it will ask you to set up a relationship but click cancel and - viola - should now just charge.

No "Allow Wireless Connection on Device" option. I am using Windows 7.. Not sure if it is present in WMDC.
ActiveSync Passthrough does not work..I am on a encrypted network with authentication based Proxies..whole bunch of them.....
I do not want to kill the ActiveSync relationship since it syncs everything with my PC.
I think I am bothering a lot over this stupid requirement.. so I will just close this thread (If I can) but if I find anything I will post it here, for someone else who might be in similar situation.
Thanks anyways...XDA rocks !!!
