Hello all, I just picked up this phone off newegg.com for 190 shipped with a 2 year contract (awesome deal btw) and I'm upgrading from a P3600. I've been kind of out of the whole phone scene so I've been reading but I just want to clarify:
1. the AT&T rom sucks, it's better to just load the factory HTC Rom
2. To flash the factory HTC ROM, Hard-SPL must first be installed then the factory HTC ROM can be installed as it normally would.
3. Isn't this phone freakin awesome? If Jesus owned a cell phone, this is the one he would have.
Thanks in advance

2 & 3 is definitely the right steps. As for #1, I'd say look around in this forum for other options than stock
thanks for the response!
I'm just going to load the factory HTC ROM for now and get a feel for the phone then I'll look into cooked ROM's. I think I had Viet's WM6 ROM on my P3600 in the end.

Hi guys.
I've just received my new HTC HD2 im with T-Mobile UK with unlimited mobile internet. I had a play with this superb phone for few hours and I've noticed that the included within HTC package browser is older ver of opera that not supporting playing flash and videos like new skyfire any one knows how to update it and make it play videos etc? also how to check if I got the newest rom? I dont want to flash unofficial rom yet but if there is some way to improve the official one plz tell me.
thank you
I have a HD2 from T-Mobile UK, for some reason I couldn't flash an offical ROM to the phone so I just used a goldcard (found from search) and the new ROM works fine. No problems at all.

The default version of Opera on this version of the device is 9.7 which doesnt directly support the latest version of flash (they are ways to enable to to view older flash content however). For full flash support, Skyfire is probably your best bet,
As for roms, chances are that you have ROM version 1.43. to checko this, go to the settings tab on the Sense home screen -> About phone -> Software information. Check the ROM develoment section for other official ROMs.
The HD2 I got from T-Mobile lasted all of 2-3 hours before I put a custom ROM on. The fixOperaFlash tool should work with Opera 9.7. I've not tried it on my HD2 yet but it worked well on my Touch Pro.
how did you manage to keep all t-mobile settings right (mms internet etc ) after flashing custom rom? Which rom did you go for?
I recently flashed my tmob uk hd2 - so far i have found the miri ROM works best for me. As for internet settings and such the phone practically does it on its own
One thing i will say, I could not access internet using the Eugina rom (might have been specific to my phone)
i,ve got in t-mobile htc hd 2
its better to download sky fire that is perfect for flash player.. but only works well with wifi....
Ive also got the Tmobile HD2. Came with version 1.48.405.1 (71294) WWE ROM
Works fine.
Rom?
I went about upgrading my rom yesterday and visited htc site for the latest htc hd2 rom update. When i went to download their rom update release I had to type in my s/n . It said that this rom update is not suitable for my hand-set. I have the 1.43.110.2 (70315) WWE version ROM. Does this mean It is the same version? I have had my hd2 for over 2 months.
The ROM on the T-mobile UK phones seems to be T-mobile specific, especially if you put your serial number. I flashed my phone within 4 days of getting my phone. Currently using Artemis ROM. Be brave - take the plunge.READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST! THEN FOLLOW THEM ONE BY ONE! Good luck, Brave Lion!
Yep. I got mines on T mobile since day 1. Originally flashed it using the goldcard method but have now HSPL'd it and am currently using "topix" ROM ver. 1.1.7
I'me very happy with this ROM and I've tried a few others but I keep coming back to "topix"
If anyone has good experience with any other ROM I'd be interested to hear

I completely agree with you the ROM on the HTC website is for unbranded HTC HD2 phones. There are plenty of custom ROMS and tweaks out there to suit your needs. My favourites are Tom's and Dutty's.

I'm currently running that what I'm looking for is the unrooted stock image files there is no benefit of having this phone rooted anyway.

just sell it rooted so the buyer wont have to go through the trouble; how much you selling it for anyway?
Im sorry buddy your screwed. I guess thats another specfic detail I have to add to the fender rooting thread. Once you root, That image is gone. Unless you can find one on the internet and convert it, you will not get it back. Problem is, for us to get recovery to be able to make a back up, we have to wipe the phone clean as is. So once you downgrade its gone.
I think I may just take the fender tut down. its ridiculous at how many people do it, when I have said there is no point, and then ask somethign liek this later.
It can still get OTA updates (over the air) from Tmobile, so just wait about a month and 2.1 will be on there all on its own.
I actually rooted it without your thread. I found your thread when i ran into the no touch problem. I used cursors ROM. I've been working with android phones/ROMs since the G1 came out. I was working on compiling a kernel for the phone because i actually like it(never had a mytouch b4) but now that i N1 i have no use for it and i want to sell it. I guess i'll just have to make a ROM based off one of the 32A port and hopefully the person that buys it of ebay won't know the difference :/
FYI: not everyone here is retarded i know what OTA means -_-

Gime a break dude.. I was just syaing in case because there are a lot of people here who dont know.
And if you were compiling a kernel why did you stop? because the best 3 guys are on it now and they cant get the new drivers to work.
Mainly because I made no progress and im attempting to sell the phone as I said I have a nexus 1 now
Hi folks,
I've just come over from WinMo, so I'm pretty familiar with the concept of flashing, but not on an Android phone.
If anyone has any advice as to how I can get a generic/standard HTC Desire ROM to replace the Orange ROM that's come installed on my nice new phone, please let me know. At the moment, I've no root access, Goldcard or anything like that.
If the general concensus is that it's a bit too soon to start flashing then please let me know.
Many thanks in advance!
rich.
hi. at present whilst the desire has been successfully rooted, the process is not complete. therefore flashing a new rom is not an option at present. cheers Andy

Sorry, but that's wrong. There should be no issues flashing a generic rom over the branded ones..
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653490
seems people are doin it to get rid of the t-mobile branding, so should work the same for orange.
(need root for custom roms)

sorry, a bit quick. You do need a goldcard, but reckon you can follow one of the guides to get one here in the forums
edit2***
here's your goldcard guide:
android.modaco.com/content/htc-desire-desire-modaco-com/305746/updating-to-1-15-405-4-genericifying-your-t-mo-handset/
Create goldcard, flash generic rom. Done.
You guys are awesome. Never ceased to be amazed by this place.
Cheers!
If I have the bottle to go through with it and risk bricking my brand new phone I shall let you know how I get on!
I would create a backup of the orange ROM in case something goes wrong and you need Orange to replace it. Although I had flashed my SE C905 with generic fw and orange didnt say anything when they replaced it but best be safe then sorry.
n00b question, but do you make the Goldcard on the PC with the phone plugged in? the instructions aren't clear...have come flashing cooking WinMo ROMs on the HD2 to Android
Not sure what instructions you used but have a look at this:

I'm going to re-flash my Orange Desire this weekend; how would I go about creating a backup of the Orange ROM?
You can't yet. Not until the device is rooted. Then Nandroid will work on it!
Ah OK, cheers for the clarification. From everything I've read (both on here and over at MoDaCo) the flash process seems pretty safe/straight-forward, so fingers crossed I'll be OK! The Orange junk on my phone needs to go! I want GTalk back!
It's very straight forward. Go for it!
Successfully flashed my new Desire with Generic rom using Goldcard. Phone was on Orange UK, I bought an unlock code, applied it, it said Device Successfully Unlocked but it was still locked to Orange. After flashing the phone, reapplied unlock code and now I have an unlocked HTC Desire. The only thing that reminds me of Orange is the label on the back cover of the phone, but I can live with that until I can find one on ebay or somewhere.

Does that really work?
sugar cube worked on my old HTC Magician a few years ago..but then the paint was on metal.
I had no idea the desire has been rooted! what is the procedure???
Will this work on A8183 versions of the Desire? ie. The Telstra delivered Australian model with 850Mhz?
Update: Yep it sure does work! Quietly brilliant....

It's not been rooted. The only thing you can do at the moment is flash a generic unbranded rom. No custom roms or operator-specific roms are available yet.

Welcome to forums
You are the first 2011 member I see!
You can try first a hard reset, perhaps an application is messing around with your Leo, also check the battery as well.
I would strongly recommend you to upgrade ROM.
Have a read here for a start.
Good luck,

Hey there,
It appears you are using the latest HTC stock rom, which works well.
Did you download that rom from HTC website or Orange, as your phone is orange branded yes?
If you are new to installing custom (non HTC roms) then i wouldnt recommend you do this yet, or you will end up bricking your device.
Is your phone new? Did it come with the 3.14 rom on it or did you upgrade this yourself. Have you dropped the device or played around with it?
You said you have done a hard reset and this does not help? If this is the case and the HD2 is in warranty i would get it checked out.
Before you do this however, check that your sd card is not corrupt and that your sim card is working correctly (try someone elses or get your provider to have a look)
Cheers.
hey thanks for helping me umm i upgraded the phone from 2 to 3.14 from the tmobile site the sd and the sim r fine i check them in other phones, its 4 5 months old i never dropped or got any water near it and i have no clue on spl, hard spl, flash, non htc roms or rom for that matter i am new at this i read alot of things on this but still dont know how to do it plz help me im going crazy and i didnt take any warranty for thew phone i called them and they will charge me so i cant
hello there don't know too much about roms and hspl and all that but i know that all tmobile phones are covered for 1 year from date of purchase so just call them and tell them its not working they'll try to walk you thru resetting and updating ...tell them you already did all that and you would like a new one sent to you. you just have to pay shipping for it. i found that out by calling them 3 months after getting my hd2 and camera went crazy. 4 days later new one came in the mail.
Do I need one of those "vanilla" developer phones if I'm to install a custom ROM on my Note 3? As far as I know, nope. You can root any Android phone.
I'm fairly sure that I can ClockWorkMod + install custom ROM on a phone I purchase in a shop. But I just want to make sure .
Thank you in advance .
You are joking, right ?
If not, yes.

Although my question seemed that of a noob, I can assure you I am not. My first rooted phone was HTC Tytn2 which I rooted using Duty's ROM's which I found here back in 2008. So no worries . Now I have a rooted SG2. I know all the procedures, safety steps and so on.
The reason I asked such a dumb question was that I had a 1% uncertainty regarding this, which I was unwilling to risk on.
As far as I know, the so-called dev-phones are simply loaded with a vanilla version of Android, no Samsung bloatware.
Anyway, thank you guys for calming my fears .

There´s only one Google Edition phone in Samsung, the S4. Still, you can get a "normal" S4 and still flash it like crazy.
