Cab installer utility - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

Here's the link to a utility I put together to make post flashing customization a bit easier. It allows you to make a recipie list and run the installation at any time, rather than only at first boot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=352178
Forgive me if there is already a tool here similar, and feel free to delete this post.
Hope all is well over here, been a while

Cant beat it Matt...Thanks a bunch!!

question.
When you say 'Ensure that the cabs you're installing does not require any user input.'
Does the question where you want to install count?
You know.. when you run the cab.. everytime they ask where you want to install whether the 'Device' or '/Storage Card'.. does this count as the 'input'.
Thanks.
Taeksoo

Keep up the good work MATT !!

No, installation path is defaulted to 'device'.
An example: if you run Xpress Mail - it launches into a setup screen at the end. Another is MS Reader.
Most cabs are fine, even if they prompt to reset after finishing. It's the ones with a setup.dll that launches additional controls during installation that messes things up.

As I understand it, when the PreConfig launches, the exe passes a -q to the installer - similar to the windows installer engine being told to run it with defaults and not to report back on the installation completion. With that, I presume it's being told to only use defaults - which is to install to the device.
There may be a way to insert additional commands into the string in the CFT.txt file, such as "CAB: \Storage Card\CABS\BubbleBreaker.cab -a -i \Device" Unfortunately I don't have documentation on the program to know what I can and can't instruct it to do, and how

Awesome Tool

[Holly's Kitchen - Wing Development] - My parting gift to the Wing/Herald Community

Well, my beloved Wing kicked the bucket last night, and I am without a phone. Before it died I had managed to finish up my Wing development environment which contained a stripped down (meticulously stripped by me) version of the official T-Mobile Wing OEM and a 21051 sys/xip.
This Kitchen is based on the "JustMe" Kitchen by ivanmmj (Thanks Ivan!!) - with all of the bugs fixed. It supports XPR and LZX compression and has a built in configuration section.
To use the kitchen, unzip the files to your hard drive and run the file "StartKitchen.bat". You will be presented with the choice of setting configuration options or building your ROM.
BY default, the Kitchen will output a very basic ROM with a full version of WM 6.1 21051/21051. The only things left from the original T-Mobile OEM are HTC camera, ArcSoft MMS, and other little HTC system utilities like "clearstorage". The only things added to the OEM are HTC Task Manager 2.1, a 6 button Green comm manager that matches the Default Green Windows mobile 6.1 theme, a couple of essential reg tweaks, and Dummy SQM.
I would post screen shots of the ROM, but I was not able to take any before my phone crapped out.
Step-by-Step Guide to Cooking with Holly's Kitchen
If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7, UAC will cause this kitchen to break. Disable it before running the kitchen.
Extract the archive to one of your hard drives - preferably in the root like "c:\"
Browse to the root of the kitchen (EXAMPLE: c:\hollyskitchen) and launch the file called "StartKitchen.bat"
Press "2" and hit [ENTER] to start the build
A program called BuildOS will appear. Press the > button near the top left.
Watch the progress at the bottom of the window. When BuildOS finishes, close it.
The build will continue automatically. If you are using LZX compression, hex editor program will automatically open and close.
The page pool changer application will open. Click on the select button, and browse to the BUILD folder of the kitchen (EXAMPLE: c:\hollyskitchen\working_folder\build\) and select the file "os.nb"
Select the page pool size you want and click on the "Change To" button. Close the page pool changer application.
The HTC ROM tool will be launched. The configuration should already be populated. Click on the "Build!" button.
Browse to the BUILD directory (EXAMPLE: c:\hollyskitchen\working_folder\build), choose a file name for your ROM and click on "Save"
Close the HTC ROM tool
The script then automatically copies your nbh file from the BUILD directory to the flash (EXAMPLE: c:\hollyskitchen\working_folder\flash) directory.
You will be asked if you want to flash your ROM. If you answer "y" and your ROM was successfully copied to the flash directory, you should be ready to flash your newly built ROM.
Now that you have successfully operated the kitchen, you can go back and edit the OEM directory (EXAMPLE: c:\hollyskitchen\working_folder\OEM) and and remove applications to your ROM.
Good luck!
You can download the kitchen here:

Lastly, if you want to help me to buy a new phone (I'm eying a used HTC Fuze) you can click here...
I'm gonna look at this, see if I can learn how to work it. Sounds interesting.
Sorry to hear that the Wing is dead
MegaUpload is super-slowwww and just generally sucksss
Too bad SkyDrive is limited to 50 MB. This is just too slow...1 hour...25 KB/s....terrible...hopefully the kitchen is better!

It should have that filled in automatically.
Choose "Herald*"
You can also try to open the project file, which should fill in everything for you. To do that click on the little "l" buton near the bottom, browse to the build folder under (hollyskitchen\working_folder\) and choose the file called "build.htcrtproj".
Here is a screenshot of what the settings should be...

I extracted my kitchen to a computer that has not run the kitchen before and the HTC ROM tool worked fine. I'm not sure how you got that error.
Anyway, I edited the first post with a step-by-step guide. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Yay, a good guide. I'll try it out again. I think it's working right now though...It's on the white screen, saying, "Building NBH". Been there for a while.
I don't get the Herald option as a device. Only the ARTE1000.

Any guide to run Andriod in POLA100??

Android on HTC cruise How to?
Hi all,
I'm REALLY confused or misinfomed or whatever on how to run andoid from my sd card.
I tried some things from a website androidonhtc but only got up to a point.
Is there a simple how-to on how to run android on cruise and some links on where to donwload the appropriate files?
For example i have got the haret but i can't find anywhere to download androidinstaller.tar
Am I close or far from my goal?
I know i might ask a silly question but guys i'm really confused.
Thanks anyway in advance.
as for how-to in hxxp://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/androidhtc/wiki/HowToInstall
after getting haretinstall.zip, you need a current kernel (zImage) from
- dzo = hxxp://it029000.massey.ac.nz/vogue/files/?C=M;O=D
or
- sourceforge = hxxp://sourceforge.net/projects/androidhtc/files/
------------------------
as for androidinstall.tar / .tgz you can get from
- vogue forum = hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=588
- kaiser forum = hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=602
- sourceforge = hxxp://sourceforge.net/projects/androidhtc/files/
PS: sorry for the hxxp link, I have no permission to post any link yet
Thank you very very very much for your help!
Congratulations mensa07. Although I already knew all this stuff from your link, it took me some time to figure them out because I did not know there was such a good guide for starters. Very usefull link. Thank you

well, it's no garbage, just required more explanation. let me try to make it simpler. this guide will use zImage-eclair and vaniljeclair, change it to suit your taste accordingly
- get haretinstall.zip from here
extract this file and get default-polaris.txt (rename as default.txt), zImage-eclair (rename as zImage), initrd.gz and haret.exe. put all these files into andboot folder in root of your sdcard. your sdcard will look like this:
/andboot/default.txt
/andboot/zImage
/andboot/initrd.gz
/andboot/haret.exe
- next you need to download vaniljeclair from here
extract the file and you will get androidinstall.tar, put this file along with those files on /andboot/
you should have those 5 files or you cannot boot android.
- select haret.exe to execute, press run, pay attention to the text rolling, when it asks you to hold button, hold volume button up, and you will be given installer menu. choose install and delete data. let the format and installer finish, then you will be given menu again. do not quit, just reset, and restart from haret (you will see that you have data.img, system.img and some other files). at this time let the installer do not interrupt, it took more than 5 minutes before android logo asks you to touch screen
- if there is problem during booting, post it here, let people here try to solve

BT and WIFI should work, there is vaniljeclair thread on this problem if something is not working.
as for contact I think you need google account to sync.
Hi,
Thank you for the guide. I actually follow it and encountered an error. When it asked for volume up or d-pad center, I did, then it prompted that it was waiting for something several times. So I soft-reset the phone and launch it again.
Then, after haret.exe is booting linux, I have got a strange screen with scramble text.
How can I put everything back in the previous state to reinstall it propely?
Thank you
More info....
Did you get to the install screen after pressing centerdpad?
If yes, did it install?
What was it waiting for? The error message can give a clue what is wrong.
i manage to get to ask to hold up the center d-pad then get into a installer menu..
currently i just cant get my wifi and bt work..
haven get connection to sign in to google account..
I have all five file on my SD card but when I click on haret on my Sd and hit run where it say defaukt.txt..I get a error saying " cannot open script file \storage card\andboot\default.txt" is im doing something wrong..thx
u got change the polaris default-polaris to default??

Okay first of all tray sometimes to used the search engine.
But because you asked it here we go.
First of all make some attentions on witch WM version you have wm 6.5 ore WM 6.5.X not every thing is compatible fore these two versions.
Secondly download the cab version, if you do it with your PC transport the cab file to your SD and navigate to the folder where you have store the cab file and press on it; you will see a window who asked you where you will install the cab Internal memory ore SD select Internal memory, you will see it will install it and after installation in the most case you will see a window who ask you to restart your device now; select yes!
if you don't see this window do manually a soft reset.
Thats it.
thx i worked but still my top curtain is same as before.

Its normal sir read carefuller the instructions.
The theme is still under construction, not everything is finished.
And the one you see is coming from a previous work of djcedric look in his signature!!!
Ps; the next time you have a similar question it's more easier to place it in the thread where you download the cab.
Reason way!?
- The creator will see your post!? (ore do you think a creator will search in every thread fore see if there is a problem with his creation?)
- other users can helps you more easier because they know directly of witch theme you are talking about.
- a new person like you will find easier a reponse to his question if he have the same problem.
Attention this is no criticism to you, but a tip fore the future fore you and other new person.
Have a nice day/evening.

Just a quick question from someone who isn't that experienced with all of these things:
Could this program be used to remove bloatware? As in, the preinstalled carrier/regional apps?
I used to do this with Root Explorer, but this seems no longer possible under froyo and this looks like a fairly easy solution to that problem.
Thanks for your help.

Download "ADB Mask Controller"
install it, connect your phone with USB debugging enabled.
Make sure the connection is detected by the application, click on the refresh button beside SEARCH Option in the program.
in the first screen, you will find option "Push Zipalign" Do that.
Go to the screen titled "Zipalign"
select the optioin you want to use zipalign for user app or system app or both.
Caution : Use this tool judiciously, it has many advanced features used by ROM developers mainly. Like pushing an app to system, removing bloatware, Sql LIte, and many many more.....A wrong step may force you to reflash your ROM.
Hope it helped.

I clicked on 'push zipalign' a number of times and then clicked on zipalign data/app but nothing happens. It says zipalign not found. Push zipalign and try again or sth like that. I've rebooted my phone and i'm trying now,
Check if you have /system/bin/zipalign. If not try to put it there manually.
ADB controller might have problems mounting your /system r/w and it is read-only. Maybe you can mount it r/w and then try with controller (just guessing, though).
And you'll need to have the S03_zipalign made by kyrillos and hillbeast in /system/etc/init.d (or just /etc/init.d) posted earlier. For what I can tell it zipalign's all apps from /system/app and /data/app.

I second that esp rw option, its already there in ADB Controller. U can manually browse as instructed above. Its not that difficult, I am sure u will be able to do it well, reply here if u still get probs even after taking all steps as directed in my previous post and the post i quote above.

It's like an addiction

I thought I'd give this a go. I've moved the first file on the previous page to system/etc/init.d and the second file on the top of this page to system/bin. Is this sufficient?
you mean to say you have s03_zipalign in /system/etc/ini.d and zipalign file posted above as /system/bin/zipalign ??
i guess this should do for you .. awaiting to hear if u succeeded.
