Kitchen Making - Base roms - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

When I want to make my own ROM are all the base rom that people start from the same just different build numbers or are ther different versions? I want to try and make my own ROM, I found "double_ofour" page and think I will start there, my main question is do we all use the same base rom?
Thanks

Why didn't you put this post in double_ofour's thread ?
If we all used same base rom, don't you think our Build would be the same ? The answer is no.

Where can Ifind other base roms I tryed searching, but all i find is ones people have added all there own stuff in.
How do I know the differance between roms other than build numbers an versions?

When you cook your own ROM, you need to put in what you want and take out what you don't. You can try looking for a "Vanilla" ROM which has very few things added into it, but pretty much once you have learned enough to be able to cook your own ROMs you should have enough knowledge to remove the other stuff people added in.
Build numbers and versions are specific to the core operating system itself. The person who made the ROM may or may not have changed the version number you see on the top left of the splash screen when you power on the phone from having been completely off.

Thank you very much that is helpfull.

Pick the ROM you like from this forum, dump the ROM and add your own OEM packages...(can use hypercore for this)

Changing the ROM of my kaiser...steps to success

Hi, first of all I tell you I'm new in this forum. Afterward I tell you that before posting this thread I read the different FAQs and guides posted hera and I search for my following question but I didn,t find any answer.
I want to change my original ROM that came with my phone but I have few things I want to know before beginning the process. These are:
1- Any ROM will work with my phone? I brought my phone from US and it was unblocked, so I can use it with any SIM from any company here, in Argentina.
The problem is that in the page where all the ROMs are described I don't find my ROM version. My ROM version is 1.82.707.0 WWE and the Radio Version is 1.27.15.32. The protocol version is 22.51.88.13W and the ROM date is 11/03/07. In the Model No it says "Kaiser". The most aproximate version I found in that page is 1.81.707.0 and the Radio associated with it is 1.27.12.11. What I want is to change my ROM to beging using WM6.1 cause the version of my WM is 6.0, but I don't know if I chose any of the ROM that are available or I have to take care of something I don't know.
2- Suposing I can chose any ROM available, is it convenient to use it with the radio that is associated with it or I have to continue using my radio version (1.27.15.32)?
3- If I change the ROM following all the steps that are described in other FAQs or threads, the phone will continue unblocked in order to be useable with any company or it will be blocked for a certain one, for example AT&T? Remember I am in Argentina.
4- How can I do to backup my current ROM and Radio so, if I have any problem I could restore it to my phone? It is supposed that if I do so (restoring the original ROM) the phone will operate as it's doing now, insn't it?
Well, that all for now.
Thanks a lot.
Guido.
My dear friend all the questions you ask have been asked many times and answered many times. I have a hard time believing when you say you have read everything .. because your post makes it obvious you haven't. Nonetheless i'll answer these questions here for you:

Yes "any kaiser rom" will work with your phone. But first you need to get Hardspl than you can flash any rom that is available here to your phone. Looks like you have a wm6 rom and wm6 radio. When you upgrade to wm6.1 you will need a wm6.1 radio. Most roms come with radios so you don't need to worry about this. If a rom doesn't have a radio the cook will specify that and most will often suggest which radios work best with their rom. To see a list of different radios available please check link in my sig for Alltheway's thread on radios.

i already answered this in my above answer. But to reiterate wm6 rom will work with a wm6 radio i.e what you already have; a wm6.1 rom WILL NEED a wm6.1 radio so it won't work with your current radio.

flashing a rom in no way changes the unlocked status of your phone.

umm okay you don't wana do this yourself as i don't think so you know how to. Most of the stock kaiser roms are available in the wiki and have links to download them. In the even that you want to return your phone back to its original rom you can download from kaiser wiki.
Secondly please do extensive reading... your post shows that you really haven't done your homework. A kaiser is a expensive piece of equipment and you definitely don't want to mess it up just because you were lazy and didn't want to first understand exactly what you were doing.
Having said that i wish you good luck and happy flashing.
Thesire...first of all I really appreciate your quick answers tomy questions. I have to confess I didn't think to get an answer so quickly.
Anyway, I have to tell you that I didn't write anywhere I had read "everything" as you say. Of course I didn't, all the time in the universe life would be enough to do it. But you can be sure I followed all the instructions that are posted to do before posting a new thread, and those include reading the FAQ of ROM Developing, seeing the charming video of "what to do before posting a new thread", search my questions, and I tell you I spent all the last thursday looking for any answer to my questions, but I didn,t find them. I am not saying that they are not, of course they may be, but I didn't find them. Perhaps, of course, it's almost sure is because I didn't know how to search. But I did it. I read about the different SPLs that I have to download, the different version of them I have to try if I have for ie. the blank display, etc.
Another thing, when you say that always I can have the posibility to restore my original ROM downloading it, I told that in the thread that appears all the ROMs my actual version is not there. So, I wonder where my ROM is comming from and who cooked it.
At last, but not for that less important, I want to really thank you for your and for the time you spent answering my questions. Just remember I'm a newbie and perhaps, someday I'll be answering a question from you in this theme or another, ie. communications!!! Also remember that for us, the people who don't have the english as our natural languaje, sometimes reading the posts can be a little difficult and can be reading something that is answering our question and don't actually realize it or don't understand it at all.
Thanks.
Guido.
Guido Welcome aboard....follow the advice just givem and you will have a great experience here

What exactly are you looking for ? Some chef to tell the wife and kids he will be in his office for the next couple of days cooking you your own personal rom?
And what are you offering him/her for this personal rom and days/month of his hard work ?
Grab an existing rom with a M2D Diamond theme and go down the list of apps you want and pick a rom that has most of these apps and load the rest yourself.
Or of course the best way to get exactly what you want, is here and here

No offense but , seems like your asking a lot for nothing in return.
Is it possible to use the Polaris Rom or it's OEM's to Cook something for myself? How do I extract the OEM's out of a existing ROM?
Or is there a library with OEM's available, maybe it's we all can create a OEM library.

Have fun and we will be expecting a new rom to test

You can't just use another device's rom/sys etc...and you have to be careful in how you do this.
I do some customization for people in my roms but I seriously don't see anything all that extraordinary about this rom. The build isn't current and you can pretty much get that look by skinning any recent rom with the skin from that rom...which is available in his second post as was already pointed out.
so I guess what I am saying is that there are chef's like Kareem that use their builds to give you the look and apps you want but no chef is going to use that rom as a base for kaiser or even bother to port it because we are all working on newer stuff. Som of us are happy to entertain requests for additional apps or removal of certain things but really other than Kareem, none of us is going to build a custom rom for one person.
You need to read everything you can on cooking and ask questions. I did dump that rom to see what is in it. Most of that rom, you can find inside just about any rom the the current chef's are cooking.

Unless you want to brick your kaiser then never ever take another devices files(SYS, OEM, etc.) and copy them straight over to kaiser kitchen. Go through the kitchen tutorial at the wiki if you haven't already.

[KITCHEN] Basic ROM kitchen for aspiring Magic cooks [PC/MAC]

Hi guys,
Over at the HTC Hero forum I have been developing a kitchen to help ordinary people learn how to build their own ROM. It allows you to do basic things such as rooting a shipped ROM, adding apps2sd, modifying the task killer memory threshold, etc.
The appropriate settings are now in place to make it work for the Magic.
Here is the link to the kitchen:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
Before you flash your new custom ROM made from this kitchen, please make a Nandroid backup first of your existing ROM!
Thank you, and enjoy!
Just a question - is there a Wiki page which lists all the shipped ROMs available for the Magic? I couldn't find any on my own. I only found the ones at the htc.com site.
...
Hi man, i just want to thank you for your kitchen, i dont know a answer to your question
but i want to reserve this post,
my plan is to make a short instruction on how to port a rom from hero, using your kitchen... (hope its ok with you)
not a full how to, but som guidence... cause i am still learning and still making many misstakes...
But i am gonna try to make my best.
I DONT HAVE TIME TO MAKE IT NOW... LATER.

That's a good idea, and that also gives me another idea for the kitchen.
Usually when we port a ROM from another device, we just replace the other device's boot.img-kernel with our own device's boot.img-kernel. Although there may be issues with driver incompatibility, this is the general way to get the ROM booting. (Also you have to make sure you use the correct base address when using mkbootimg)
Wow
sorry it's off topic but damn good to see dsixda over here on android. I remember your roms from my diamond and elfin. Now i think a nexus one is my next device if you're cooking for em lol. As for the kitchen i think this is an amazing idea to get some more chefs in the game.

Hey man, I remember you ;-) The kitchen is working for Nexus One. However, I'm not cooking ROMs this time because public ROMs are too much work when you want to satisfy hundreds of people at once The kitchen will take the load off the cooks and also provide an enjoyable learning experience for people who want to customize a ROM the way they like it. We already have someone who has made a public ROM from this kitchen, and hopefully there will be more!
I am still looking for the downloadable shipped rom. hopefully it would be found soon. i looked on the htc site but i guess i am still lost. but thanks again for something great.
Sounds like fun. I'll try it out on myTouch 1.2

You can try this as well:

so with this one should be able to build roms from any rom to try make it work on your phone?

As long as they are Magic ROMs, then yes they should work.
ok so the base has to be magic for it to work, so in total it is to maske it easier to modify roms to your liking? no porting ect?

Yes you need a Magic ROM as your base. In theory it should work with any Magic ROM, but I'm not 100% familiar with all the variants of the HTC Magic so maybe there are incompatibilities?
I'll be working on porting ROMs later in the day.. I have to try the new porting scripts on my Hero first.
ok, i will give it a go when we can try porting a bit more fun working with android 2.1
i just noticed a problem with the T-Mobile myTouch 3G ROMs, as my script only looks for "HTC Magic" in the build.prop and not T-Mobile myTouch 3G... I'll get to fixing that soon. I'll check for "sapphire" instead, which is more generic.
Ok I have put up an update to the kitchen, version 0.24. This one should recognize all ROMs from all variants of the HTC Magic (e.g. T-Mobile myTouch 3G).
Also another option has been added, which will allow you to port a ROM from another Android device to your Magic (it will boot up but you may have to make some changes to get everything working properly, such as drivers). Has been tested on an HTC Hero.

G1/MT3G Video Drivers fo Eclair

If this is in the wrong thread I apologize. I didn't know if I should post this in Q & A because its a question relevant to something developed, I also didn't wanna invade anyones ROM thread.
I am creating a ROM which is a fusion of the Droid and Nexus one for the G1/MT3G. I am learning how to create ROMS and have been able to search and solve alot of problems on my own. This one however has me stumped and I've searched through a hundred threads but it seems no one is interested in this information but me.
Would someone explain to me how to implement the graphics driver that was designed for the G1/MT3G for Eclair 2.1. I can't seem to find any documentation/posts about how to implement this so that the camcorder works and the 3d gallery, those are my last 2 obstacles. I know ROMS such as CaNNoN202 Complete Eclair 2.2.1 or CyanogenMod-5 have it implemented. I have even looked through the ROMS but haven't found the drivers and have no idea where they would be.
If an experienced modder could help me get on my way to becoming a allround dev, please explain a few thing to me like in a pm or something. Like if they are kernel specific/dependent, what scripts are needed for the drivers to install, etc..
Please any help is very much appreciated.
EDIT:
I found a thread where CE developed a patch for his ROM which adds the support for 3D to the G1.
Gonna see if I can implement it that way. I will post results if I find anything.
Any info is still very welcome
Are you trying to build your own kernel or just a rom? The only reason you would need the drivers is if you are making your own kernel, which by the way you ask, I doubt you could do. Nothing against you, its just not easy.
Any kernel (mostly Cyanogens) has the drivers implemented after version 5.0.4 i think. You can just strip the boot.img out of any of those roms and slap it into your rom till you get it all to work.
Once you do that, then you may have the problems of no BT or wifi.

Yea I have been exploring these ROMS and seen the extra libraries and patches that have been implemented, but I haven't been able to get someone elses kernel to boot my ROM.
I have used the tutorial on theunlockr to set up a kitchen and been able to modify alot, but I am missing the true functionality of these ROMS if I don't understand the kernel and libraries that allow for these patches.
I think I am going to set up Eclipse in my linux and slowly learn the process of actually building these ROMS from scratch, I know its difficult but I'll search through old examples until I get on my feet.
Thanks for the info. If any ther experienced ROM maker has any tips to share I thank you in advanced.
The drivers you are looking for are in /system/lib
Note that in some cases, preload memory offsets need to be manipulated.

Hey thanks for your info/help
I figured the libraries and modules needed to be ported over as well, didn't know anything about the memory offsets
I am trying to port Cyanogens kernel+system/libe+modules offer, hopefully it will fix all issues.
Will post update. Thanks you guys for helping a noob I'm really trying to learn and its very tough
Edit:
porting kernel either ends in bootloop or it ends in the settings and fc's like crazy
If I apply my modifications to cyanogens rom, the live wallpapers break, this is so wierd!

[Q] experiences with the different ROMs.....any tipps ?

Hallo here in forum
today i want to flash my "new" htc tytn2. a friend gave it to me as present, because he had his new i-phone.
he told me, that he already flashed a few roms (from xda-dev) on the phone, so i think i can use the "Flashing Your First Kaiser Rom (For Noobs)"-guide from STEP 5 to flash my new baby...... am i right ??
i mean i dont need to do the hardSPL-part, right ?
im just going to doublesheck a few things here, because i dont want to do no mistake.
then he told me, that i just should look witch is the most popular rom (i think he ment the thread with the most posts or clicks.)
i followed his hint and found the "HyperDragon IV Mega"-rom
but then takin a closer look i realised that the links to the rom are down:
"...Admin edit: links removed due to legal complaint from microsoft...."
hmm,....i know it is hard to say "witch is the best rom"...but can anyone give me his special tip.
i think it is not a good way to just take the rom with the most posts in the supportthread, because it is possible, that a rom just lunched and is better than olders, etc.
is there any thread with a list of most popular roms and a discussion about them ???
greetings revnu
105 views and noone has an idea ?
isnt there a list of all roms and a kind of ratingsystem to make it easier for someone to decide wich rom to try out ?

There is unwillingness to do any kind of rating, etc. out of respect for the chefs and their hard work, which is voluntarily done.
I know how it is to come to this scene for the first time. You've read the flashing guide. That's good. Take a look at the various offerings. Consider the features. Read the comments. There are a lot of excellent roms to try. Some are lite, so you can add features to your liking. (probably something you should try later after you become more familiar with the flashing scene) Some are loaded according to the cook's taste. After a few tryouts you might even become a flashing junkie.
Good Success!
ok i understand.
at time i have the black styluz mod. i dont know wich version, but i have to flash a new rom because my version have bugs.
im going to flash the black styluz v5 because i dont have a clue wich rom could be good
but i think there are a few roms out there wich a very popular, because they have win6,5 or other things.
okok i try to tell it in short:
I AM NOT ABLE TO DECIDE WICH ROM TO TAKE BECAUSE THEIR ARE TO MUCH AND THEY HAVE NO STRUKTURE
from my later experiences then flashing older phones i always found such thing is a "list of avabable roms".... is their such a threath ?
sry 4 bad english
"list of available roms" . . . For the most part, that is what this forum is. All Kaiser roms found on XDA are listed here, on a thread by thread basis. You mentioned bugs. . . You'll have problems on many if you don't flash to a stock rom first. Each cook offers the recommended procedure for flashing their rom. Their recommendations are worth following.
ur right....im sry
ill check few roms and decide ma own. till now i had experience with black stylus.
the error i had (could not send sms) was because of my handyprovider...
anyway i now flashed the newest black stylus (full) over the older sylus version......without flashing to a stock rom first. i read the instruktion on his site, but i think i missed the part...
Once you become a little more familiar with things it won't be so troublesome. I hope you will enjoy it. The ol' Kaiser is sinking into the sunset, but it is still a great phone, and many of these roms bring out the best this device has to offer.
Good success to you. . .
There are so many to try? It's good. You will not get bored by your phone!
First, read through the FAQ & Wiki. Even if you don't have to do unlock and HardSPL anymore..
It's very important to read more than do more in the beginning.
Enjoy your TyTn II. I use it as 'PC' and dial into my older SE M600i that acts as bluetooth modem. The reason is that I have bought data plan for that SIM card, and I don't want to swap my current SIM card on my working phone (TyTn II) to older phone, but want to use the internet update from that data plan. Tricky, but it works!
I don't know if any other platform can do the same.
