Question,
Does everyone recommend a hard reset after flashing different ROMs?
If so, can the Chef's make it so that when the ROM is done flashing, the phone turns itself OFF instead of rebooting.
When it reboots, it goes through the whole setup process, screen alignment, and reboots again.
Then its recommended to do a hard-reset and then you’re forced to go through all of that again.
If the phone turned off instead of rebooting, you could do the hard-reset immediately.
can this be done?
a few of the new ones hard reset automatically now.

Perform the hard reset at the "Tap here to begin blah blah blah" screen.
u should hard reset after every rom flash, period. it will save u ALOT of headaches down the road. some chefs have their roms set to autorun clear storage at first wm bootup after flash.
oh and this is a redundant thread. next time plz search
hahaha hardreset is a step u shouldnt skip..and after u flash u dont have to tap and set up everything and wait for it to reboot and hardreset and do it again...the first time u see tap just hard reset there
yep, because when it ets to the tap here screen, after the really long first boot, its fully installed the os. i think its still doing stuff before it gets to that screen though...
but just hard reset
Thanks to everyone that replied!
I noticed on some of the newer ROMS that it was doing something that I wasn’t used to..
Clearing storage
So I guess that is where some of the Chefs have it hard-resetting on its own.
and thanks everyone for letting me know I can skip the tap steps and just hard reset right away.
and since this is a duplicate thread, if you want, delete it.
My questions have been answered! Thanks
"the phone turns itself OFF instead of rebooting"
"some chefs have their roms set to autorun clear storage at first wm bootup after flash."
Execuse me. Isn't that most steps people talking about here is Soft-reset?
Honestly, I never did any HR after rom flash and no issue so far.
Yesterday, I had to do a clean reset on my hp ipaq (running WM6.1) because of a problem I was having with my wifi card. The reset went as usual, and I was greeted with the "tap here to set up your device" screen. Next, the usual screen alignment test appeared. I did everything precisely as it asked, and tapped each of the targets. However, the screen alignment keeps repeating and repeating. I've been trying all night . I've already cleaned my screen, and I couldn't have been more precise with the tapping. I've tried everything, from reseting the device to letting the battery die and trying again, with no luck. After a web search, it appears I'm by far not the only one with this problem. Does anyone know a solution to this problem that does not involve buying a new device? My hp warranty is over, and I really can't afford any expensive repairs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Try hard reseting it again.
How do you hard reset with buttons again?
Hello.
I have an O2 Atom with WM5.
It started for a while ago to act up.
When I used the alarm I was not able to turn it off. (The "dismiss" bottom in the lower left corner did not come up.) I tryed everything and the only thing that worked was to take out the battery and reset the whole thing.
But now the problem has developed. And I am not able to turn off the alarm at all anymore. Making the phone unusably?
Is that a known problem? If so is there anything I can do to solve it?
I have tryed to upgrade the ROM but it is allready the latest. Maybe I could upgrade it to WM6?? Is that possible? And if so how??
Best regards
settemand
i suggest you hard reset your device. to do this, hold the reset and power buttong together. a screen will show telling you to press both call and end keys (the green and red buttons). when the process is finished, see if the problem still exists. before you do a hard reset, backup any important data you may want to save.
it is also possible to upgrade to WM6, just download a ROM and follow the instructions. usually takes less than 30mins for the upgrade process.
hope this helps.
Thanks very much. That did the trick. It took some time to reinstall the backup. But it was worth it.

Tried Hard Reset. No Changes in display
Let me explain , I had installed cotulla's HTCMAG_ROM_WWE_O4. It was working flawless for about 1 month, till one day, when I was downloading a song, and my device hung up because of insufficient memory. I did a soft reset, and after restarting , I was surprised to see the screen with only brightness and nothing else. I reinstalled the same ROM again, while installing I could not see the progress of ROM upgrading on device screen. I finished it from PC.
Yet the problem is same. I think I have damaged my display and need to replace.
If anyone has solution Plz. Let me know.
Thank You so much
Hi all.
Yesterday I installed a cab file that required my phone to reboot. Once I started to do so, my phone froze on the 'at&t world phone' screen during power up. I've removed the battery several times and tried to restart it but it freezes the same way everytime. I've also used the reset button to no avail.
Is there any other way to get it working or is it done for good?
Just hard reset it; hopefully, you remembered to back everything up before you installed the cab. If you didn't, then consider it a lesson learned. The device isn't bricked, but the cab must've screwed up the startup process somehow so that now the device won't start up.
