GPRS dies until radio restart (v1240 - ericjm WM6 ROM - Vodafone UK) - HTC Tornado

Hi all,
I've got a Vodafone (UK) v1240 (HTC Tornado Noble variant) running ericjm WM6 For Tornado - HTC Edition ROM and GSM.02.61.01 / SPL.2.00.0014.
Every day or two, the 'G' symbol disappears from the bar at the top of the Home screen and doesn't return. GPRS is unavailable until I use the connection manager to turn the radio off and back on again.
This is *really* annoying as I use push email on a daily basis and often find ActiveSync in 'waiting for network' mode, even though I'm in an area with a good signal.
I've tried the registry hack of setting GRPS to 'Always on' and renaming the 'SuspendResume' registry value - but that doesn't seem to help this issue.
I've seen a few other grumbles on this forum and around the www about this issue - but no firm solutions. Can anyone shed any light on this - or suggest a fix?

the GPRS issue is fixed with the latest radio ROM update, did you run phil's WM6GSMUpdate? If not, get it from my tutorial in my signature

Thanks for the response karhoe.
I did apply WM6GSMUpdate while following an install guide similar to yours for ericjm's WM6 For Tornado - HTC Edition ROM.
I'll try re-applying it, but I believe it is already in effect as my radio version states: 4.1.13.28_02.61.01
Any other ideas?

Try this
I have the same problem when i use andot's ROM. I have also upgraded the radio to 4.1.13.28_02.61.01, but still not solved.
Finally, after i change my ROM to NiTroGenious' WM6 English 5.2.1616.18120 ROM, and upgraded my SPL to 2.00.0014, the problem has been solved. I am not sure whether is the ROM or SPL solve the problem.
If you want to upgrade your SPL, please find the link under NiTroGenious's signatures.

One thing I have seen even in my own phone (running VJs ROM v3.2) that depending on what's being refreshed on my home screen, the "E" symbol will disappear. In that case, it's not that my GPRS connection has dropped, it's just that the top bar isn't refreshing to display the symbol. If I force a home screen refresh, lo and behold it's back again. Could that be what's happening with you?

Maybe 1.12 is better

Just got my MDA Compact back from HTC and they put back the Rom from last May.
Funny thing is, I haven't been able to find any advantages to justify me upgrading to 1.13. For a start, rebooting the thing is quicker on 1.12.
Can anyone advise if I am missing something important by not upgrading to 1.13?
Thanks.
Maybe it feels quicker because it is a fresh installation. I doubt there are any speed differences during boot time because the changes since 1.06 are very minor and mostly ExtROM related.
Much quicker boot
I think as part of the "No Bluetooth device found" fix, they added some time to booting. Not sure, can anyone confirm?
Could that be the reason my bluesoleil did NOT found the bluetooth device on the VPA Compact 1.12 rom, and it did find it when i had installed the 1.13 t-mobile rom.
Problem is, all that t-mobile **** is not really helping me out. THe Vodafone PUSH-EMAIL service is not auto connecting etc.
Could I get that bluetooth fixed even when having installed 1.12 in some way?
Rom 1.13 comes with newer battery dll, camera & album. & indeed a BT-fix. Using it for 5 months now & still satisfied with this rom.
@Riel, you can skip all TMO related ext-rom stuff by hard-resetting your device & just before customization (the little pop-up after the message 'now tap the screen
to start using your device') starts you soft-reset again.
Then load the required Orange cabs from your previous rom & you should be fine.
Regards, M
The Hang-up which I experience, could that be a 1.12 problem (when PAN with another s100 with Bluesoleil, it hangs when we start a MP game if pushmanager is installed).
Maybe 1.13 will fix it?

GPRS/EDGE problem

I have recently upgraded my k-jam to custom WM6 and have tried 2.19.11, 2.25.11, 2.47.11, 2.61.11 and 2.69.11 radio roms and the data G or E icon keeps going away and instead i see an x sign
with WM5 even if i had an x sign and i wanted to connect to internet the application used to connect without any problem but with WM6 it does not connect when x is displayed saying that data services not available so i have to then turn the phone function off and on to get it working.
i heavily use data services so its very frustrating going through the process again and again.
is there a tweak/hack available? what could be causing the problem?
hi..did you try gprsworksround cab file?also club imate released new patch for gprs edge problem.check the club imate support web site.good luck

When you were using wm5 was it stock or custom? If it was custom when you started having connectivity problem, try reflashing your official carrier rom andthe n reflash a cooked rom. You might just have had a bad flash.
What carrier are you with???? Have you loaded your settings correct ??? That are in "connections/connections" then in com manager , make sure your phone is "on" as when it is turned off, like in flight mode, you will get an "x" where it woud show "E" If all is well then I would return your phone in because you would have a hardware problem.
Hi,
I was faced with exactly the same weird gprs problem you described. That is, once booted, gprs works as expected. several hours later, G (or E) sign disappears and an x (no gprs service) appears at the top. After that, it is impossible to re-attach to the GPRS (the only way is to restart the radio or perform a soft-reset). I tried 3 different custom roms together with different radio roms. The tweaks didn't help me in any ways. I even tried 3.08 IPL/SPL without any success. Strangely, t-mobile wm5 rom and my original wm5 rom hadn't had any such problems.
Then I found NBD rom and it happily solved my problem (thanx zoki! for this great rom) I don't know what is wrong with other roms, but my problem simply went away!!
So, using NBD rom may solve your problem. It is great and the connection is successfully getting alive even x sign is displayed in my case (btw, same thing happened to one of my friends here and he then installed NBD, then gprs problem was solved successfully.)
Hope this helps.. All the best.
Orhan.

[SOLVED] HTC Tilt + Dutty WM6.1 + BBConnect = PIN: Pending

Hey guys, i've seen a number of different threads which "kind of" talk about this issue. I'm hoping to make this the definitive one. I'm on hour 10 of working to try to get this running..
(My apologies in advance if there is already one out there that i haven't found. i have been really looking and i think i tried it all... im sure thats what everyone says )
Hardware: HTC 8925 a.k.a At&t Tilt a.k.a TyTN II
Software: Duttys Official WM6.1 Release
Radio: 1.64.06.04
Provider: At&t (US)
Problem: BlackBerry Connect's "Identity" Tab reads "PIN: Pending"
I should also mention that i called At&t to confirm (prior to all of this) that i have a BBConnect service plan, it is active, and there is nothing on their end that would indicate a failure of any sorts.
Attempted Fixes (These have ALL failed):
I've tried every combination of having active sync enabled and disabled during bbconnect install.
I hard reseted before every install. Soft reseted after issue still occurred even after bbconnect install rebooted.
All tests were performed with the the HKLM\System\Versions Aku set to .0.4.2 as per Dutty's wiki: (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=DuttySeriesKaiser)
I also tried various combinations such as .0.2.0 and .0.3.6 and .0.3.0
Even tired changing Device ID to HTC_P3450
Tried all of the following BBConnect software downloads:
4.0.0.84:
http://sems.org/content/download/bbc4/o2-terra-bbconnect_wm6_professional_bb_4.0.0.84.cab
4.0.0.90:
http://sems.org/content/download/bbc4/bbconnect_wm6_pro_4.0.0.90.cab
4.0.0.91:
http://sems.org/content/download/bbc4/bbconnect_wm6_professional_bb_4.0.0.91.cab
4.0.0.92:
http://sems.org/content/download/bbc4/bbconnect_wm6_professional_bb.4.0.0.92.cab
Tried installing this one both by copying cab file over to local device and through device web browser:
4.0.0.97:
http://www.america.htc.com/mobile/connect/8925/
I'm installing from and installing to the local device memory, not the storage card..
i think i covered it all... oh, i didnt try the one HEX edit solution, because i didnt think its applicable to dutty's rom..
can ANYONE please help?!
---------------UPDATE--------------------
Okok...so problem solved... i thought i read something similar to this solution somewhere.. but..well whatever... frustrations are over (the problem always seems to find a way to fix itself after you post help for it! )
Process:
1. Hard Reset (set up initial settings, connect to provider, its a total of two reboots iirc)
2. Change registry setting (HKLM\System\Versions Aku set to .0.4.2)
3. Soft Reset
4. Change Device ID to any value (Settings->System->About->Device ID)
5. Soft Reset
6. Install BBConnect 4.0.0.97 via device browser from http://www.america.htc.com/mobile/connect/8925/
7. Installation reboots system
8. Disable 3G connection, force to use EDGE via wireless connection manager
9. Device receives PIN, activates, etc..
10. Enable 3G connection
Notes:
1. So i dont know if items 2,3,4, and 5 were really required.. after preliminary testing, everything works fine with the 3g connection turned on after initial registration.
2. I noticed that the BBConnect Today icon kept showing an exclamation mark indicating its outgoing connection was being blocked. Also the status window kept showing that the connection was suspended by the user, when i never did anything.. so i tired disabling the 3G and sure enough.. problem solved..
Hope this saves someone out there the headache i've been going through.. oh well.. back to the girlfriend who i've been ignoring for the last 10 hours... (hopefully im not in that much trouble )
wooooooooooooooooooot, thx for the solution.
Man...thanks a lot for all the help...it worked like a charm...and i am using it here in dubai...uae where the black berry doestn support the kaiser offically
cheers bro
Great work man, great work for users who uses BBConect
3G still working?
Quick question for those who tried the (disabled 3G to Edge) and then re-enabled 3g.
Does your 3g still work? Have your tried to place calls in 3G mode? I am on my third Tilt, the prior two times I lost 3g after installing blackberry connect, and I want to see if anyone else has this problem, before a try a third time.
Note: On my previous two phones all worked well when I downgraded to GPRS (Edge) as described, but I never got back 3g (even after flashing and removing BBConnect)

I added this post to Dutt's WIKI and gave you due credit for your hard work.
Now if only someone can figure out how to force WM to do multiple APNs and BBConnect would be perfect!
Strange... All I had to do with my Tilt was set the AKU to .0.4.2 or .0.4.4 in the registry before installing the BB Connect software.
I've used the .92 & .97 installers from CAB files on my SD card just fine.
If you change the AKU version after the BB software is installed, it won't work right, as it will still drop the connection. You'll have to reinstall the software.

Quick Question
So to those of you who have BB Connect running, is all well with your 3G? Thanks for your help, I want to hear a few success stories before a walk down this path again
so I followed the steps, and got everything installed and turned off. I'm trying to get an unlocked tilt on my blackberry account on t-mobile.
The problem is its installed, but the email options are greyed out. We don't use an exchange server (or if we do it is configured very wrong) as I have pop3 information on my t-mobile blackberry page. It says I register successfully on the network, but I still don't receive emails. What do I need to chnage?
edit: fixed - I had to get back online and say yes that I had a new pin.
THANKS!!

that is the same problem I have left now, almost like hardware related.
does AT&T default one can do multiple APNs? as it is officaly support BBC.
I installed Blackberry Connect and I am using it with a Blackberry Enterprise Server.
But I see in order to have the BB icon, the GPRS is always attached. Should it work like this ? I know/knew that with Blackberry phones it attaches to GPRS only when incoming email is coming, and only with Microsoft Directpush technology it stays attached all the time.
If it works like this ( Always On ), is there a difference between BB Connect for WM, and Outlook with Microsoft Direct Push ?
Yours,
Alex

This link doesn't seem to work, it's actually supposed to be:
http://www.america.htc.com/mobile/connect/8925/index.html
The problem is, when you click "install now" it still can't find the cab. The 4.0.0.97 cab is now mirrored here:
http://sems.org/content/download/bbc4/bbconnect_wm6_professional_bb_al_4.0.0.97.cab
desktop manager software
Do you have a link for desktop manager?
I have the version 4.x.17 and cannot connect with the bb on the pda.
I don't know which is the latest or most compatible version for desktop mgr having in consideration what you have in the pda. please, give me some light...
Thanks from a Touch DUAL user....
Thanks Elec.Two
Just added this to the Touch Dual Forum (Nike) as it works a dream for us too!

Has anybody an idea how this will work on a Pharos / HTC P3470? I just tried it described in this taks, but without success.
I had 2 dots and an x
I updated to Dutty's ROM today, and had problems with BBC.
So I searched, found this page and did exacty as told. No luck. Tried again. No luck.
So I went to Start/Settings/Connections/Connections and then clicked on 'Manage existing connections' and changed the settings (default on Dutty's ROM). [To do that click 'Edit' and change the 'Access point name' from isp.cingular to wap.cingular. Click next and change the 'User name' from ISP.CINGULARGPRS.COM to WAP.CINGULARGPRS.COM]
This worked for me. This info is for noobs, of which I am one!
I have just updated my TyTN II to WM6.1 and bbconnect (version 4.0.97) stopped working. Basically it had PIN marked as pending and was reporting no connection.
I have executed only step 2 (change hklm) and 3 (soft reset) from elec.two procedure and it resolved my issue - bbconnect works now. I have not reinstalled the bbconnect.

Have tried all the known fixes - I think - anyone had any success with bbconnect on the new diamond? Sigh.....

Problem with Windows Mobile 6.1 official upgrade

hi,
i've a big big problem. i made the official upgrade to WM6.1 for my tytn II (italian) but once finished it was set under HSDPA. I disabled HSDPA and i turned to 3G.
with the old rom (official wm6) i disabled 3G by setting GSM following this path:
Comm manager -> options -> phone -> banda (i don't know the english translation, i think is band). under that panel i selected GSM and the phone turned to GSM, with G icon in the home screen
if i do the same thing with the new rom the phone freeze, and 10-15 seconds after a message says: cant switch band, try later.
i tried many times but the problem remains, i also tried to install the rom update again and again.
can you help me? 3G doesn't work fine where i live, so it's important to set GSM
someone told me that changing the radio rom (it has the original one) can solve the problem, can you give me some advice?
thanks
Same thing happened to me, restarted and tried again and it worked.

different radios yeild different signal strengths depending on location. try different wm6.1 radios and see if there is one that gives you better connection strength. go here for a list of radios:

Qtek S200 WPA2 problem

Hi there,
I have a Qtek S200 WM5 mobile phone. Working good with all options, except for the WPA2 support. I've tried to connect to the Wireless Network at my work, but I could not (needed to install a certificate; but this did not help).
I though: an upgrade to WM6 or 6.1 will work, so I decided to upgrade to WM6.1 (one of the Roms of varanusvincent; which by the way works pretty nice!!!).
Now with WM6.1 I can connect to the wireless network of my work, but as soon as I get a good connection, my screen turns black. The LED lights on top of the phone still show me that the Wireless connection and the Telephone connection are still working.
Does anyone have an idea what's going on?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Check the new Rom from Varanus i solve that problem allready also the recent pdaviet roms have the wpa problem fixed.
Well, I've tried to use one of the latest ROMS of varanusvincent, which should be supporting WPA2...
I guess I'll buy another telephone after all I don't want to change the ROM again now... just finished making all new settings...
Thanks for the reply!
did you change the radio rom.
What do you mean by change the Radio ROM?
